Make it a point to swing by mid*point winery as the best spots are "off the beaten path". This was our first stop and the impossible happened. We enjoyed EVERY taste off the tasting menu (which is reasonably priced). The space is open, fresh and the train going by is charming. Paul and Roberto are wine wizards. My socks WOULD have been blown off with the wealth of information they shared describing the wine, but I wasn't wearing any ;) They definitely pair well together. Came to Paso Robles for a wine tasting weekend and this place was recommended by my friend. I loved it here! The outside seating is nice and inviting, you can sit at a cozy table for 2, or a large table for a big group, or hangout on the lawn chairs (that are super comfy). The inside tasting room is nicely set up and you can see many bottles on display. The vineyard is beautiful, we were able to get a small Polaris ride tour of the property by Blake the sommelier there. He is very knowledgeable about wine also! He really explained each new tasting he was pouring us and taught me somethings about the vineyard I had never heard of. Wine is such a talent and this place explains it well! Our last stop. Best way to end the day. I'm fairly all 5 of us were at capacity by the time we made it here. I was for sure at my breaking point. We were greeted by a super cheery Channing. I think we were her last group for the day. There was an awesome set up at the table right outside. Being here felt like home. We had such an amazing time. I think our favorite winery stop of the weekend. Channing was great. She was very personable and knowledgeable. She made our visit great. The wines were exceptional. The white was especially nice. Isabelle led us through our wine tasting and I loved how it felt like a story-time; this part really sets it apart from other wineries I've been too. Down the street from AronHill Vineyards (which has a restaurant in case you need something more than wine, crackers and cheese as you do a winery crawl. By the way, Rotta winery does not provide complementary crackers during the tasting but there is a menu you can order from that has different types of cheeses, meats and crackers, olives). My husband and I came by with our little dog this past Sunday evening. We arrived around 4 pm. We came in and were acknowledged by an employee behind the counter. For the wine tasting, I somewhat like the Rose wine. I liked the light and fruity flavor of this wine but I didn't like it enough to want to buy a bottle on my own (please note that I am still new to the wine world). Although I did not like the Ecliptic wine, I did think the bottle logo was pretty cool and appropriate for the name of this wine. Of the wines we tried, I truly loved the Zinfandel Port and Black Monukka. Both of these wines are dessert wines and just have a delicious sweet finish that is perfect for ending a meal. You can swirl the Zinfandel Port but not the Black Monukka because of the brandy that is in it (and would ruin the flavor). That Black Monukka had some incredible caramel notes that was truly fabulous. Although the first employee helping us with our tasting was friendly, I did get this odd vibe around her, along with the second employee who helped us later on. For the first employee (Caucasian female), she had told me that Cambria is predominately Caucasian. When I asked her if there was another ethnicity, she said there are Mexicans and that they pick the grapes (I am just tell you what was told to me, please do not assume these are my own personal views. Especially being a minority, it would just be wrong to think this way. I am not taking these words out of context). She also mentioned that they do live in Cambria but in a different part because this part of Cambria is very expensive to live in. I was taken back by what she said but didn't really say anything so that it would not be awkward. She also did mention that there really is no diversity in Cambria. Eventually this employee had to leave to handle other matters in the winery. So this other employee (also Caucasian female) took care of patrons in the tasting room. She was friendly as well but my husband just got this vibe that she had the same view as the other employee. My husband wanted to buy 1 bottle of Zinfandel Port and the Black Monukka but for some reason, this second employee never brought it out for us to buy. My husband asked her twice but she never did. My husband was very frustrated and decided to leave. He didn't understand why she either had forgotten or ignored the request (especially since we have money to buy). Which is unfortunately because I really wanted to take home a bottle. Although I can order through their website on line, I would still have to pay for additional shipping (which is kind of expensive). I truly wanted to like this winery, but based on our experience (racism, yep I went there. Don't send me hate mail because you disagree with me. This winery was not the only one that seemed prejudice during our short vacation out in this area), I cannot award this winery a higher rating above 2 stars. read more

When it was Rotta, it was great. Not so much now. Look at the name , Mid Point. Sounds like a brand that is not either great nor bad, it uuuhhhm, " Mid Point". Rotta was a intriguing name. This place is blowing it. I hope Rotta cashed out and got paid well. The new wine labels are ATROCIOUS. Like a mix of cartoon comic book vs 90s music cd cover art work. Rotta had style. Mid Point, not so much. The name of the wines are tacky - like ; ' No Forwarding address" Spirit of Distraction" Glitch, etc. Trying way too hard to be clever with marketing and tacky labels and bad Winery names vs focusing on the wine. They like to overwhelm customers about the wines with stories like a children's books contain. The Black Monukka used to be in a clear bottle to let the consumer have an idea of what to expect based on the nice burnt caramel color. Not anymore. They made the bottle black, and changed the name. Here is what makes me scratch my head. Why buy a business that you though was successful and you enjoyed, then go and change it all from what made it great in the first place. I will tell you why. EGO. Its all about the romantic fantasy of owning a winery vs caring about the wine. I just bought 24 bottles in the last few months. Not impressed. Im done. I don't even know where to start. This is such a welcoming, warm, and cozy winery! We made a reservation on a rainy day, and when we arrived, we received the best welcoming from Channing and Brian. Channing did our tasting. They set us up outside by some cozy heat lamps, and let me tell you, wine tasting outside on a rainy day was one of the neatest experience we've ever had. The sound of the rain, the warmth of the lamps and the amazing friendly service by Channing made this such an unforgettable experience. Another beautiful detail was that they personalized our tasting menu with our name on it! NO OTHER WINERY has EVER done this! Channing was incredibly friendly, hospitable and just right out cool! Every wine we tried was also very delicious and complex....all the notes that we like in wine! We hope to be back soon to have another enjoyable experience! read more

This was the first stop on our wine tour... Looking at the place I was a little disappointed, because it definitely doesn't look like one of the castles your drive past on the 41.. Anyhoo, they had the cutest tri-pod cat to greet you before you step inside! He's a doll! This lady was crazazy!!! =) She was so incredibly knowledgeable about all the wines that they make here. But most importantly, she was not snooty like the other wine 'connoisseurs' at other wineries. Oh ya, our tasting included 12, did you hear that, 12 (twelve) tastings!! That's the largest amount I've every had in one tasting! My whole party ended up walking away with one or two bottles...we bought the red zinfandel which was so yummy! 3.5 stars. Rounded up to 4 because they waived our tasting fee if we bought a bottle of wine. ($5 for 11 tastings) The tasting area is quite small and packed. Their staff was friendly, but it was hard for her to pay attention to our group of 3 when she had another group on 10 to tend to at the same time. We passed on most of their Reds and went straight to the Whites/Dessert (about 4-5 to try). My favorite: the Muscat Canelli. It tasted exactly like the Muscat (green grape) gummy one can buy from Asian supermarkets. SO delicious...and dangerous because you can probably consume the entire bottle like juice (11.1% alcohol). A bottle is $18 and we each got one. I know everyone raves about their Black Monukka dessert wine (18% alcohol), but I thought it was a bit too caramel for me...I don't like the taste of caramel and it was very overwhelming and strong. These place isn't that great if you are a bigger white wine fan (even their staff recommended another winery to us for whites..don't remember the name though) but their Muscat...oh myyyyyyyy! Parking lot is a dirt lot out front, does not take AmEx, gorgeous scenery on the drive over. read more

The staff was very friendly and let us take our tasting onto the patio so we could eat lunch. I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to pick what wines i wanted to taste. This helped since the bf and I tend to like different wines. We went to this winery on our 2nd day in the area. We all love dessert wines and when I checked on Yelp, everyone raves about how good their dessert wine is, so off we go. Their tasting room is small. It's $10/tasting for 9 different wine tasting and free with 2 bottle of wine purchase. They also have an outside patio. They had 2 dessert wines in the tasting menu, Zinfandel Port and Black Monukka. Both of these are very sweet! I love sweet dessert wines but even for me these are extremely sweet. The lady pourers here were super sweet. The tasting room, though small, had a great fun atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and nice. I really liked their whites and the muscat wines here. They had a great range of wines which I liked a lot. Next time I would like to do a tour with them. It was nice outside they have some picnic tables and chairs to have lunch. The area is surrounded by wineries and vineyards sprawled around you. It's a beautiful view. In the tasting room one the back table was a DELICIOUS jam/cream cheese dip with some crackers. We were visiting various wineries on Mother's Day and decided to drop by Rotta. Was there 2 years ago and had a nice time, good service and good wines to taste. Well what a huge mistake this time. Their tasting fees are $20 to taste 5 wines and tasting fee are waived if you purchase 2 bottles of wine. The price of the tasting wasn't an issue ($20 for tasting is fairly common for the area) but as I mentioned previously to waive the tasting fee must purchase at least 2 bottles of wine. The issue is that all their wines are really expensive, ranging from $50 to $75. We all felt that the prices were way to high for what we tasted. Their wines were good but certainly not great at those prices. The other issue was the service or should I say lack of service offered by the guy behind the bar. He seemed very disinterested and bored throughout the whole wine tasting. He would pour the wine, say what it was and that was it. He never talked about the wines and just wanted to move on to the next wine. No info. about the wines, winery, history, owners, etc. NOTHING ! We have been visiting wineries in all parts of California over the past 35 years and this was the worst experience ever. When we showed up there were no other customers and no customers came in while we were there. Maybe that was a sign that we should have kept on driving and skip this winery. Definitely will be our last visit. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. After visiting over 200 tasting rooms and wineries around the world, I never believed I would ever write these words. "We walked out during the tasting". Yes, walked out rather than get ignored for more than the 15 minutes we had already spent there waiting for a tasting. It seemed that the two young lady servers were obsessed with helping 5-7 millennials in the picnic area and did not have enough skills to stop by with anything more than a tasting list while we patiently waited inside the tasting room. Our group of four mature adults each of whom have extensive personal wine libraries at their homes, watched as the two "servers" ran in and out of the building waiting hand & foot on the people their age. Maybe they were taking them 7-Up to blend with their wine, dunno. That they only waive the $10 tasting fee when there is a purchase of TWO bottles of their crappy jug wine, speaks volumes for the kind of penniless customers they attract. Discriminating on the basis of age is not smart for business. Our small group purchased over 5 cases of wine in two days and NONE OF IT WILL EVER BE FROM ROTTA. ROTTA WINE GOT THEIR REPUTATION AS A JUG WINE PROVIDER AND STILL CHASES THAT BUSINESS PLAN AND CLIENTELE TODAY - SAD FOR THE NEW INVESTORS FROM JUSTIN. read more
