Hayseed is one of several cool hangs in a little complex of tasting rooms on the back side of pine street businesses. Holly was laid back, friendly, and informative. She explained to us with a visual aids how her sparkling wine is produced and talked us through each wine on the tasting menu ($15 to taste, waived with 1 bottle purchase! Basically unheard of cheap for the area). We even received a fun bingo sheet to interactively identify nose, flavor and texture notes of each wine on the menu. The bingo sheet is curated by the owner/winemaker and his wine loving friends, and was an entertaining accompaniment and informative to check your picks off of the winemaker's notes. Oh, and as an added bonus, each wine is paired with a local charity with partial proceeds from purchase going to that charity. Feels good to be supporting a good cause. I will be back!

All the wines I tasted were crafted with care and I especially liked the 100% Grenache 2022 from the York Mountain vineyard. My first visit was back in December 2019, before any of us knew what was coming in 2020. A group of us girls were in Paso Robles for the weekend, ended up here during our wine tasting adventures, and had the BEST time. I still remember us sitting around laughing, drinking wine and enjoying ourselves so much that we practically shut the place down. It became one of those memories from that trip that always stuck with me. Fast forward to September 2026, and I was back in Paso celebrating my 45th birthday with my partner. I told her there was one little wine tasting spot I really wanted to find again. Sure enough, I found Indigené, tucked away in the same little alleyway I remembered, and we headed over after brunch. And once again, SUCH A GOOD TIME. Raymond, the owner, is an absolute gem. We sat outside at one of the high-top tables tucked into the alley and settled in for our tasting. As locals came in and out to say hello, you could immediately tell Raymond is someone who is genuinely loved in the community. It didn't feel stuffy or overly serious. It felt like sitting around with good people, talking, laughing and drinking some really good wine. We started with a tasting and let's just say...the pours kept coming. There were several wines I really enjoyed, but the 100% Syrah was definitely one that stood out to me. We ended up buying a few bottles to take home, and by the time we finally got off those stools, we both knew an afternoon nap was calling our names. Almost seven years between visits and somehow the same great feeling. Indigené is officially one of our Paso stops now. Whenever we're back in town, we're stopping in to see Raymond. Good wine. Great people. Even better vibes.

The beautiful soul that brought our wine delivered the story of each wine with passion! She even entertained my questions(brownie points! I'm full of questions!) as if she liked the challenge. She's a treasure! There's an unmistakable sense of warmth and community here. Even during the short time we spent there, a steady stream of people stopped in for a glass or simply to exchange greetings, which speaks volumes about how welcoming and inviting the atmosphere truly is. Accessibility: Mostly flat walk from where I parked on a gravel/dirt driveway. One handicapped parking spot where the walk is completely paved, but it was already taken. Much of their outdoor seating is low, but they have normal height chairs with arm rests around the side to the back. They have a big, very calm dog wandering about, which I loved, but I know other people are scared of dogs.

The Truss tasting room is so beautiful! Modern but rustic all at the same time. Set on a scenic pond overlooking vines and olive trees it is so serine. Micah greeted us with a smile and the tasting was on! He was so knowledgeable and his stories to match each wine were engaging! We also found out he lived in our home town of Santa Barbara, so we swapped stories of old and new hot spots! Such a wonderful experience! We enjoyed every minute. Although we were so engaged with Micah, the wines were still the star of the show. So well balanced. Supple and rounded mouthfeel, each one was a delight. The wine maker really has a passion that shines through. This tasting room is a must stop. It was the highlight of our trip. Thank you Micah for treating us like family! She's incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and clearly passionate about what she does. The way she spoke about Marin and everything that goes into the wines was so genuine and enthusiastic--it really elevated the whole experience. Her energy and customer service were top-notch from start to finish. My wife was in heaven the entire time. Her absolute favorite was the Grit and Grace bottle. The bottles labels are so pretty with so much color. The tasting room itself is small, but in the best way possible--super cozy, intimate, and welcoming. It feels like you're in someone's living room rather than a big commercial space, which made the whole thing feel special and personal. The wine was delicious, though I started out with their Frose' that was SO refreshing on a warm, Summer night. The items we had from the food truck (carne asada burrito and street tacos) were great, and apparently this is the truck hired for most of their Sunday events). I would totally eat their food on another Sunday trip to the winery. The staff were friendly and contributed to the casual, fun ambiance. I definitely recommend checking this place out!

Outdoor tasting area consisted of a few picnic tables surrounded by plants and string lights. Not a bad place to drink wine if you're not at the vineyard. Sadly, I quickly realized that biodynmic wines are not for me, nor were they for most of us in the group. A few of us ended up dumping multiple of the tastings. It was a cool idea to try a wine product that was as natural as it was, but there's a reason that sulfates are added into wine and that was learned here. The tasting menu had an orange wine on it which was pretty exciting, but still not enough to warrant a re-visit by me. Cool vibes and service, just not my glass of wine.

One fine Saturday, after having finished shopping at the wonderful Templeton Farmers Market just a few blocks away, I decided at random to drive down Main St. to see if anything was interesting. Our eyes where caught by the pop-market & plants in front of this warehouse-like building and we stopped to look. As we literally wandered into the main shop past all the plants outside, I spied this interesting wood paneled nook with a full bar & bottles in the corner. It had a serene look and this nice lady greeted me. It turns out that she was one of the owners. I was curious about at first the olive oil and then when she pointed out their wines & ciders, I was even more interested. I tasted the oil & I think two brews. The Olive Oil was herbaceous & good, but I had already bought three Gold Award winning local EVOO's from local farms and another Templeton winner was at the Farmers Market. One can only use so much EVOO before it gets old. While they had bottled EVOO in a nice bottle with a cork, they also had a big tank of it, to fill your own bottle which I liked. While their brews tend to be on the dry side per the owner, there was one that was to my taste and I bought a bottle. During the conversation, I heard all kinds of nice things about organic, but since alcohol is inherently not that great for you, I only listened causally..until the term Biodynamic came up. I had no clue as to what it was, but it sounded healthy at the time. When I finally came home to look it up at home on Google, I found out that it was kind of a takeoff on pseudo-science, namely, the more well know Homeopathy. As far as I can tell, this was sort of the same thing, but for farming and first thought of in the 1920's, which was in a time when the older pseudoscience, Homeopathy [late 1800's] saw a resurgence in the US. Let us think that in these eras, we did not have a clue about alot of things, especially in medical science. In those days, if your equivalent of a PCP wanted to give you turpentine to drink and you then threw up, I am sure you would possibly latch onto basically magic potion with almost nothing or nothing in it. The placebo effect is naturally so strong that you can have lots of benefit from even blessed water, or even quite a few side effects, like nausea & vomiting. People are terrible test subjects even when the later rigorous formulation of double-blinded Placebo controlled studies became the standard. How do I know? I used to help run some of these studies on some blockbuster medications in Hawaii. Since Hawaii had all kinds of interesting cross-cultural themes, I also found out that the most popular Chemotherapy drug in Japan was sold at doctor's offices [where they made a profit] and it was a placebo....& there was nothing "Homeopathic" about it. It was a culturally specific thing that involved confidence in their doctor, that invoked a placebo response, but ultimately they still typically died from cancer all the same...except for rare spontaneous remissions which do happen regardless of treatment. Oddly enough, I used to buy wine from another vineyard that used crystals to enhance their crops. While I thought it another myth, they still made excellent tasting wine, and I did not have to join a cult to drink it. While the Biodynamic stuff and some other stuff on their website is IMHO rather out there, they do a very nice job of caring for what they do, and creating stuff that has less junk, that one does not need, or can have a reaction to Sulfites. On the other hand, some things can give one pause, like statements like they use natural yeast, and let things sit around for awhile.....or use Clay Amphoras sometimes or Oak Barrels at other times. As someone who is a retired science researcher & has a hobby of making DIY Cider, Probiotic Veges, Natto, and much more, I tend to be really careful with how I make stuff & have had all kinds of run ins with stuff which grows, where I do not want it to. The air contains countless spores or active bacteria, fungus, mold, viruses, etc...and quite a few times they decide to grow where I do not want them. In many cases, the short-term natural preservative is either the rampant growth of your culture or a byproduct like Lactic Acid....or to some degree, the yeast/alcohol mix itself. Longer preservation times involve more complex efforts like canning. In any case, if you want products that have less interventions and still feel comfortable with their techniques, it is worth a try. If you have health conditions that involve the GI or immune system, maybe consult an MD before using such products, since some may contain active cultures for all I know.
