We went a little over time because they were having a hard time finding a while but we eventually found one, we got a small glimpse but it was staying under or just on the surface a lot so not much to see. We did get a great look at some river otters, we had a pack of sea lions swimming alongside the boat for a while which was so cool to watch. We had a great time and it's definitely something we'd consider doing again. They told us they typically have a little better luck with the early tours so we just need to get up earlier and be ready to go next time lol.

We had a morning rental for 2 hours, which I think was more than enough to make a few loops around the bay. The staff member was very courteous and thorough with taking us through how to operate the boat, restrictions on where to go, and making sure we had everything (even provided blankets since it was an overcast day). The boat is easy to handle, and it's pretty easy to follow where you're allowed to go. We saw plenty of wildlife - sea lions, birds, and best of all otters, including a mom and her pup swimming exactly at the boat dock. There is street parking right in front, and a hotel bathroom in the same building. They also provide binoculars for close up viewing. A good way to explore more of Morro Bay!

We saw multiple groups of whales lunge feeding, with whales, sea lions, and tons of birds all feeding together. We also saw lots of dolphins and had a chance to cruise alongside them for a while. Our guide, Mark, was fantastic. He clearly knew the whales and their behavior, always kept us informed about what was happening and where to look, and was happy to answer all of our questions. The highlight came when Mark spotted a whale away from where we were watching and decided to head over to check it out--even though we were already seeing some incredible activity. We're so glad he did. Shortly after we got there, the whale breached right in front of our boat! An unforgettable moment that we never would have experienced without Mark's knowledge and instincts. Our original trip had actually been canceled the day before because of bad weather. While that was obviously disappointing, it was completely outside their control, and we really appreciated how they handled it. They added an extra third trip the following day so they could accommodate us. We also brought our three-and-a-half-year-old along, and he had a great time. He was comfortable throughout the trip and really enjoyed the experience. It may not be for every three-and-a-half-year-old, but it definitely worked great for ours! True to it's name, if you have the cash you have a seat. To begin your voyage you and your group gather outside Captain Stew's office on the wharf. For all intents and purposes his office is really just a door with a grease penned phone number on it. Apparently you call the number and some person tells you to wait for the boat to show up. We just waited outside his door and walked right on board when he landed at the dock. No reservation needed. The tour is about 45 minutes, blankets and binoculars are there for your use. The captain does a good job with facts about the bay while trying his best not to hit the many kayaks that are tootling around. You'll probably see at least fifty sea otters as they're everywhere in the Bay. There's one other stop the boat makes on this trip and that's to pick up more/drop off passengers on the other end of the wharf. - Kids get a free stuffed fish - Yes, that's a Budweiser sign above the Captain's office door.. - There are several negative reviews for this tour, mostly along the lines of cancelled reservations. This is a woman and veteran owned family business run by Shasta and Annie, and their mom, Patti. Patti is a great representative and face of the company. From my very first call with her on Tuesday to see if I could schedule some sort of harbor cruise for the family, she was extremely helpful and hospitable in putting together a private charter of 2.5 hours, including a sit down dinner for Sunday evening. I could not believe my luck. I was the star of my family in being able to score this amazing activity on such short notice. Not only were we going to have a beautiful cruise around the Bay, but we would not have to worry about dinner reservations too. The price was very reasonable, and the whole booking and meal selection process was easy. There were great menu options, and Annie is a fantastic chef - the food was excellent, and she was even able to accommodate a few vegetarian and vegan people in our group which was much appreciated. The boat itself was lovely, and the cruise was super chill. No need to worry about anyone getting seasick, as the boat stayed in the bay. We lucked out with incredible weather and no fog; just beautiful views of Morro Rock, sailboats, and sea life. Our family included kids as young as 7 and as old as 89. Everyone had a blast, and there were no issues for the two oldest with mobility issues and walkers getting on and off the boat. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The captain of the boat even let the 5 little kids ages 7-11 have a go at "assisting" to navigate and drive the boat. They were equally happy to play with the first mate doggy, Zorro. :) Parking was surprisingly not a problem on the busy weekend. Some of us parked on the street; others found spots in the lot in front of the dock. There was a full bar on board, which the adults loved; bartender made great drinks. Fresh flowers on the table was a surprising and lovely detail. Annie's homemade ice cream and blueberry cobbler were icing on the cake! I booked this in advance and it was relatively easy to do so online via the request form on the site. We had a 9am start but easy to get a hold via text if you run late. There is ample free parking right in front of the shack. Put in "A Kayak Shack" in Google Maps and you will have no trouble finding the dock where you need to be. Bathrooms are available by the shack and there are even faucets to wash your feet if you get muddy after the trip. Everything went very well and we all had lots of fun doing this. They provide a lot of equipment, including dry bags, even a blanket to prevent splashes on you, and safety jackets for everyone even if you can't swim. It was clear John and his team are very knowledgeable of the local wildlife and I appreciate the care behind making sure we had a good and safe time. Once arriving to the dunes, we did a hike to the secluded beach and was able to enjoy the view from a much quieter spot. For the picnic, the food was delicious for a picnic. Includes wine and sparkling water. John surprised us with some lovely homemade Blondies. The whole experience doesn't require too much experience and the waters are quite calm so it's perfect for many ages and such a lovely place to be!

She created a wonderful atmosphere. I can't say enough about her kind leadership and how she taught us about this unique area of California. This tour immerses you in the geological wonders of the bay, history of the area, and its bountiful marine life. On that particular day, we saw very active cormorants, a few herons, egrets, a bald eagle, evidence of mud shrimp, crabs, and a raft of otters taking a snooze. Being outdoors on the water was calming and learning with other curious individuals was invigorating. Thank you Jenn for this experience that gave us many wonderful memories.
