If you decide to give this place I try, I highly recommend going during their brunch buffet (which is only on Sundays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM). This option provides you with a broad perspective of what Jack Allen has to offer - a smorgasbord of "Southern-inspired flavors, crossed with the spice of southwestern cuisine" served by a team of very friendly waiters and waitresses. The brunch buffet starts off at a hefty $16.99 price tag, but that includes locally sourced ingredients to form dishes like chicken fried chicken, chicken fried pork tenderloin, migas, enchilada casserole, green chile pork & eggs, tomato & basil pie, jalapeno sausage, "Mama's Sunday chicken", cured ham, salads, fruits, and more. Even their donuts are locally sourced from Round Rock Donuts! The buffet menu also includes these addicting little silver dollar pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. The pancakes are so good you don't even need syrup. There were lots of people during the Sunday brunch. A lot of people were dressed in their clean Sunday clothe so it definitely didn't have that Denny's or iHop feel to it. Although there were a lot of people, they were able to seat us (party of three) pretty quickly. Overall, Jack Allen's did a marvelous job providing delicious locally sourced foods and good service. Moonshine has been my top brunch place since I moved to Austin, but Jack Allen's is sure giving them a run for their money. I was so happy when they opened this location. I had heard such great things about the 71 (Oak Hill) and Round Rock locations but neither were exactly convenient for me. This location is right down the street from my church so it's perfect for Sunday brunch. I've also heard good things about their happy hour so I need to get over here one evening. I have been for brunch twice now and both times I've left so full because I can't help myself. Everything is so delicious! It's definitely best if you make reservations in advance. You can do so on their website without even having to call in. They're flexible if you need to change your reservation as well. My favorite brunch items are probably the red chile beef enchiladas, house cured ham, wild boar frito pie, potato salad, and the tomato basil pie. Nothing is bad though. They even have Round Rock donuts. I also like to order the dollar pancakes at the table. I recommend ordering a bloody mary or a paloma as well. It also doesn't hurt that they have the cutest manager (I think that's his position) at this location. Who gets my 100th review? Jack Allen's does! When I ate at Jack Allen's for the first time, it was at their Round Rock location. Their Chicken Fried Beef Ribs was amazing and couldn't get any better. Nope, it actually could! And it was achieved at their 360 location. The Beef Ribs had an excellent meat:fat ratio, and the fattiness was evenly dispersed throughout the entire portion. Sooooo tender! I was afraid that this dish would lose its luster now that I knew what to expect. But Jack Allen's does what Jack Allen's does best: gives my expectations the middle finger and blows my mind away. I ate with my parents and my mom ordered the BLT Sliders, which I enthusiastically tasted. Just when I thought I knew the taste of pork belly, JAK thrusted its middle finger in my face once more. The fat on the pork belly didn't melt in my mouth; rather, it was more solidified and thus packed in all that meaty pork flavor. Biting into it made me so much more aware of the texture, and I knew JAK was on to something good. The buttered buns were also fantastic, and honestly, I can just eat the buns by themselves. I'm not a fan of fried green tomatoes in general, so I felt they were a bit heavy and took away from the flavor of the pork belly. All in all, I can definitely see myself ordering this app again. Service was great as well. Our waitress was very talkative and a bit awkward. I think she was new, and it was a bit endearing cause she looked like what I would be if I was to be a waiter (except for the talkative part). My parents and I are huge fans of this JAK. Quality food, filling portions, and great prices. If you haven't been to this place, you're seriously missing out. read more

She loved them, I had a bite and I would absolutely go back for them. The only dish I wasn't too keen on was the 5 cheese Mac and chicken. I love Mac and cheese so I'm always looking for a good one. And then there were three. Jack Allen rolls out another cracking restaurant. The popularity of his franchise is obvious as a recent lunch stop revealed. We arrived around 11ish and pretty much got one of the last tables before going on a wait. At 11am, on a wednesday. The area around 360 and Bee Caves is bereft of decent places to eat, IMHO, especially for lunch. The places that are around are decent, but a change is always nice to see. Unfortunately, everyone knew about Jack's a month before it was to open and he get's slammed immediately. It is more than likely having to do with something along the line of consistency. Being a regular at our Jack's SW, we have enjoyed great food and service there for years. On my last visit to the new Jack's, we ordered the etouffe special. It was tasty albeit a small portion and actually a little pricey for a lunch 13 bucks I think. When the waitress came back by, we went ahead and ordered another dish to split. Okay, two guys, not exactly big eaters, but nonetheless it was what it was. On the pricey side, it is something that I am noticing about my new work neighborhood. I was with my wifey at Lupe Tortillas and a shot of Jamison is $7.75! When I asked about why the price was so high, he shrugged his shoulders and said all of it is around here. I agree. I look forward to dropping by more often, the space is really nice with a large bar and outside seating. Definitely see me up there with some margaritas during a late evening on the patio. read more

We had read that Jack Allen's has the "best brunch in Texas", but I beg to differ. It wasn't bad; it just didn't live up to expectations. We came for the brunch buffet on Sunday after a 7 mile hike. We made a reservation and were seated right away. The place was jam-packed and many were waiting at the front. We were seated at a comfortable booth. I usually love booths, but the booth was troublesome for a buffet. Everyone was always getting up and getting back in. They only have a small room on the side for the buffet. It was so crowded and the line was long all the time. The food selections are not great. They have a lot of Tex-Mex food, not my favorite. The green chile mac and cheese was just cold and not appetizing. I did like the pastries and Round Rock Donuts though! You can also order silver dollar pancakes and biscuits from your server. Both were great! The pancakes were really soft and bite-sized treats. Walked out absolutely stuffed. For children, the buffet is only $6! What a deal! However, $18 per adult is way overpriced. Service was fine, but overall, the experience wasn't great. We felt rushed and uncomfortable. I think the inconvenient booth seating was the main issue. We'd probably have a better experience if we came back for dinner. read more

Great place for group gatherings! I came here for my sister's birthday dinner and making reservations was very easy. We were seated right on time and our waitress was great for our party of 13. The food was good. I highly recommend getting the red chile fries. They're absolutely delicious and crunchy. For drinks, I recommend getting the margaritas and mule, they're delicious. I had a steak, don't remember the exact name but I've provided a picture of it with this review. The steak had more fat than I would prefer but the meat was good. It came with mashed potatoes which tasted interesting. Almost like there was wasabi mixed in the mashed potatoes. The green beans and sauce was great. For dessert, the restaurant provided a birthday ice cream pie. That was delicious and a great way to wrap my sister's birthday dinner. The food here was good. We came here for a birthday party and had a nice time. I heard from others that this has the best chicken fried chicken in Austin. The person who ordered the chicken fried chicken really liked it. I got the fish tacos and it was good. Nice big pieces of fish. It also came with delicious pickled jalapeños and carrots. Make sure you ask for the habanero hot sauce (I bought a small jar of it for $5). The waitress was great--very attentive and friendly even with a big group. I heard the Sunday brunch is nice too because it's buffet style. We were here on Saturday and they have $4 mimosas and bloody Mary's. I was looking for a casual American food restaurant while visiting Austin and saw how the original location had such great yelp reviews. This seemed to be the newer location and closer to town so I picked this one for my small group. No trouble with seating at 930pm on a Friday night. We started off with the complimentary homemade pimento cheese appetizer, then ordered the featured appetizer: jumbo lump crab cake, a chicken fried new York strip and chicken fried beef rib....along with 2 kids hamburgers. This is a nice restaurant on the west side of Austin with VERY reasonable family friendly prices. Both the chicken fried were very tasty and contained an appropriate breading to meat ratio. Of course the new York strip is sliced thin to be priced as such, but still delicious and filling. Service was very attentive and next time I'm looking for a nice American restaurant, I'd definitely consider JAK. read more

Jack Allen's is hands down my most favorite restaurant in Austin - and I have tried over 135 restaurants so far! The atmosphere is very inviting and relaxing. You can come for any occasion: casually, a formal event dinner, to watch the big game at the bar, etc. The service here is always great. The employees are enthusiastic and are very knowledgable about the menu. Very personable. The food comes out in a timely manner. The food is delicious. I have tried over 13 items here and I loved them all. You can close your eyes, point at an item, and not go wrong with whatever you land on. Every time I come, I never know what to get. The food portions are all huge. The ingredients here are fresh and locally sourced. For appetizer I always make sure to get the Smashed Guacamole. They have daily dinner specials everyday and I always check to see what new items they'll feature for the day! The prices are amazing for the food portions you get. It's pretty cheap here. I love how M-F they have happy hour from 3-7 for half priced appetizers and drink specials. If you come on a weekend, make sure to make a reservation because there will be a wait! Family went to celebrate a 90th birthday. The place did not disappoint. Some very creative menu items including the nightly specials. In our party of five no one was disappointed with their selection, and it was a variety - appetizers of smashed guacamole, crab dip and bacon-wrapped shrimp (a special of the night) followed by entrees of salad with grilled chicken, pesto marinaded crab-stuffed chicken, slow-braised beef barbacoa enchiladas, layered seafood enchiladas (another special) and 5 cheese macaroni and chicken (made without the chicken to accommodate a vegetarian with no problem). Josie, our waitress, and gave us a wonderful dinner experience. She was friendly, full of energy and very attentive without hovering. She dealt with a mishap with a wine glass cheerfully and quickly, even replacing the wine at no charge. A truly superb waitress! Wow. Can't believe it took us so long to try this place. We went on a Saturday for lunch. They weren't too busy so we got seated quickly. Our waitress was great. We order some beers and started with the red Chile fries and queso with a side of salsa and both were awesome. Love how the tortilla chips were cut lengthwise. Salsa was homemade and had a great taste. The queso wasn't your run of the mill queso you get at other places. It was excellent. Real cheese and great creamy flavor. For lunch we decide to split the chicken fried New York strip. It came with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies with the most delicious green chili gravy. Oh my gosh. It was the best gravy we had ever had. It was so good we ordered extra. The fried ny strip was cooked perfect, and the veggies were a great side. You can't go wrong by ordering this. When out-of-towners ask me for restaurant recommendations that exemplify Austin, I tell them to check out Jack Allen's. Their mix of Southern cuisine with hints of Tex-Mex results in some of the best food in town. Add in the locally sourced ingredients, cocktails, and some great outdoor patios, and you've got a great Austin dining experience. I'm a huge fan of their happy hour, where appetizers like their barbacoa stackers, pork belly sliders, and crab gratin are half-priced. Their entrees are just as tasty and come at a reasonable price considering the quality and size of the portions. The Sunday brunch buffet is also no joke and will satisfy any sized appetite. I've been to their Oak Hill and Round Rock locations, but I decided to review the 360 location since it is right by where I live. All of the locations have been consistently great both in food and service, but depending on time and location, you may have to deal with a wait. I got the fish tacos, which came as a huge serving with slaw and beans and habanero oil. Setting is strip-mall chic in West Austin. Nice first experience, was in and out quickly.
