The coleslaw is mayo based and thin so it's not too rich. The brisket oozes with juice and has so much flavor! But if you like your meat saucey there's yummy bbq sauce options on the tables. Since it was a to go order I didn't find wrong items until I got home. Not a good experience for the first time ordering from here. I haven't been to J & L BBQ in quite a while, and when I did, I usually went to the Snohomish location, which is small and mostly take out. I always loved their BBQ, but we moved further away, and it wasn't convenient to go there anymore. This time, we were attending a show at the theater next door and decided to eat here at the Everett location. The service was awesome. There were two ladies at the counter taking orders and dishing up, and they were great. We had brisket, pork ribs, collard greens, baked beans, and corn bread. The meats were excellent, the collard greens were amazing, and the cinnamon butter for the cornbread really did the trick! I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the baked beans, though. They were a mix of red and yellow beans, and the sauce wasn't what I typically see in a BBQ restaurant. Besides that, the food is great, and if you are in the area and hungry, you will definitely get your money's worth here. read more

This is by and far the best barbeque in Everett and some of the best in the state. Their brisket is flavorful and tender and the ribs are equally as delicious. The chicken is good too. This is a great place. Came in with a good friend we needed some great BBQ. As soon as I tasted the brisket I was in heaven, so tender and that smoky flavor it was heavenly. We both ordered the 2 meat, 2 sides meal. Quantity and quality of food outstanding. Even the potato salad, surprised both of us. Had the Mac n cheese, collard greens, cold slaw, and potato salad also the corn bread w/ cinnamon butter. Oh yeah the second meat was the pork ribs which were very flavorful and tender. Took plenty home too because of the nice size portions. Restaurant was clean tables were full of people eating away. Ordered 2 brisket meals for pickup they said it would be ready in 10 minutes, as we know parking on Colby is a nightmare so had to park with my hazards on behind a couple of cars. I went in and they lady behind the counter couldn't find the order, when she asked the manager, she said she forgot to make it. She asked if I still wanted it and said yes but needed to park my truck as I was illegally parked. I left and had to find a parking stall, and when I went back in she still hadn't made it. Needless to say I wasn't happy about this, and she said I could leave if I didn't drop the attitude. She had 1 table of customers mind you. Terrible, recommend another place. read more

Been a noticeable difference in the customer service this year, meets are consistently A- to B+, appreciate the delicious choice of sides and thicker style corn bread. Wow. This place is amazing. My wife and I hosted an impromptu holiday party with 8 adults and 5 kids and chose J&L BBQ in Everett as the place to go for the grub after a great experience we had (and everyone had) at my MIL's wedding last summer. It was with extremely short notice and they were able to accommodate us. The food was great last summer and it was even better than I remembered at our party - a super huge hit with our guests too! VERY good! Not only that, but their service too! Mandi is an incredible person and clearly very devoted to her customers, even calling us a day later to ask how everything was and went. This place went above and beyond what is expected and far exceeded expectations. Not just for us, but our guests (from ages 5 to 60) all raved about the food. We had plenty of leftovers and decided to let everyone take some home! All of it got devoured, and they made raving fans (and loyal patrons) out of us and 4 other families. I've been searching for a decent BBQ place fairly close by for quite some time. I'm actually really good at it (not to brag but I am). It's difficult for me to not judge them to my standards. TODAY !!!! I found it !! J & L BBQ on Colby Ave in Everett. I give it 5 stars. It's a little pricey but well worth it. They also have one in Snohomish and I can't speak to that one but the Everett hole in the wall is spectacular. The "bark" on the pork, brisket and ribs is perfect. Smoked to perfection , very tender and juicy. Just the right amount of seasoning. Their cornbread and beans are to die for. Their BBQ Sauce is A- but still very good. (nobody can make BBQ Sauce as good as me) read more

I found this when I searched yelp for bbq place , I was happily surprised to find they live up to their stars and revues. The brisket was tender and tasty , the sausage was Smokey and spicy , so good I had to go back again the next day lol. The only sides I tried was the potato salad and the coleslaw. There are not enough words to describe the food here. I'm from OKC and I know and love bbq. I've tried it in a dozen places over the years from Bellingham to Centralia. I have not been pleased. Until I found J&L. Tender. Flavorful. Smokey. Fall apart. Juicy. The meat is all that and more. And the sauce, I like a thick, sweet, smokey sauce. Keep that vinegar for your lite salad dressing. We've tried everything on the menu, and it is ALL fantastic, BUT- DO NOT SKIP THE BRISKET! I got the loaded baker with pulled pork, beans, slaw, cheese and sour cream. One extra step they take, which I'm always looking for, is they smoke the potato too. It adds a whole other level of flavor to the whole thing. I ate on mine 4 times. As good of BBQ as I've ever had (and I've experienced Texas and Kansas City). Generous portions. Great pricing. Brisket is succulent and juicy, sausage has bite, Mac and Cheese is creamy and flavorful. To top it off, staff is incredibly friendly and attentive (and as I was dropping in for a pick up order to ask for more BBQ sauce, I couldn't finish my request because they interrupted with a friendly, "already got it in there for you!"). We came over to this side of town for Cafe Wylde BUT they weren't open so since we couldn't do vegan why not do MEAT LOL. Small little spot cozy and delicious!! We got a 3 meat with 3 sides! We got the Ribs, Tri Tip, and Chicken. The ribs were great. I'm pretty picky about my ribs because my hubby is a pit boss and his ribs are the best. So I have high standards. They weren't super dry although I think they sit in a warmer. The chicken is nice and tender and the tri tip is probably their best. I'd love my more rare but hey it was so good! The potato salad and corn bread is a star side!! The beans are not my style but I'm sure that many enjoy them! Cole slaw is good as well. The sweet tea is just like I get down south which took me back! The sauces are tasty! We wanted to buy some LOL. Let me tell you about the portions tho! They weigh it out in front of you and I was definetly impressed by their portion sizes. We split a 3 meat and brought a bunch home. We didn't feel shorted at all. Always amazing!! I have never been remotely disappointed. There are times I have it on Sunday and then order again the following week. I have used them for catering events the one for work I way over ordered for a crew of 22 and the only thing left were cornbread crumbs. I spent a good chunk of my life in the south and have been to Texas multiple times and have tried bbq in every corner of the country and overseas. I have lived in Everett for almost two years and have driven by J&L BBQ probably 200 times but today I finally stopped in for lunch. Fantastic. I had the brisket sandwich and a side of cowboy caviar. First they give you the choice of the fatty or lean section of the brisket. Most places outside of Texas don't do that. The brisket was fantastic with a solid bark they you don't usually see in brisket that is kept in a warmer. They have both a mild and spicy sauce both of which were solid. Will def be back to try the rest of the menu! read more
