Let me tell you about Lew's BBQ. Or as my husband and I now call it BBQ from the Loo. And before you ask yes. It earned that name. Every single letter of it. This place had every opportunity to be the holy grail of down-home BBQ. The kind of spot you drag yourself to when you're too lazy to fire up your own grill but still want to feel like a person with standards. Instead it delivered something far more memorable: profound disappointment wrapped in a paper napkin. The potential was there. The execution? Somewhere between 'bless their heart' and 'what in the actual hell.' We drove from Sultan for this. SULTAN. On a Wednesday. Like optimistic idiots with functioning taste buds and unreasonable hope. We walked in at 3pm to a dining room so empty it felt like a crime scene missing the chalk outline. Not 'peaceful Wednesday afternoon' empty. Not 'hidden gem that hasn't been discovered yet' empty. More like 'did someone die here' empty. The kind of empty that should've been a sign. It was a sign. We ignored it. Now. The meat. OH. THE MEAT. Buried under sauce and not in a 'this is so fire we had to' way. More of a 'if we cover it completely maybe God won't see what we did' situation. Spoiler: God saw. WE saw. The meat was dry lifeless and deeply confused about what year it was. That BBQ had the energy of someone who already put their coat on to leave the party an hour ago but somehow ended up on your plate anyway. The whole meal arrived in to-go containers with plastic forks. Plastic. Forks. The kind that bend before the meat does. I mentioned I'd take leftovers to go. I did not mean 'serve my entire dine-in experience like a sad airport meal.' Nothing says 'welcome to our restaurant' like eating off disposable everything while sitting in an actual building with actual chairs. Now here's where it gets spiritual. A mystery cup of mac and cheese appeared at our table. Uninvited. Unannounced. Like an uninvited relative at Thanksgiving. We thought how sweet! A little gesture! A sample! The universe providing! Narrator: The universe was charging $3.95. That mac and cheese which based on its journey to our table had clearly seen some things. Wasn't terrible but wasn't exceptional. Showed up on the bill. For four bites of mediocre mac that nobody ordered. A complimentary charge. And THEN like the plot needed one more twist when you go to pay on the counter there's a handwritten sign informing you of a $2 per plate/platter upcharge for 'product costs.' No prices on the menu. None. This isn't a scavenger hunt Lew. We're not on a BBQ treasure map. We're hungry people who would like to know what things cost before we eat them. The bill: $95. NINETY. FIVE. DOLLARS. For reheated meat, collard greens and a mac and cheese I did not order but apparently spiritually owed. I still tipped $10. Not out of satisfaction. Out of the deep social paralysis that will haunt me until I die. Look I want Black-owned soul food spots to WIN. Full stop. I am ROOTING for you Lew. But you cannot hide dry confused reheated meat under enough sauce to drown a brisket charge $95 for the experience. You cannot. BBQ from the Loo. I drove from Sultan for this. I will not be back. On our way out we stopped to grab a plate to eat once we got home. We got the rib, links and brisket with side of greens and Mac. The greens were fire!! We enjoyed our feast! Too much yummy for that tummy I'm telling you I'm from Texas and Oklahoma and this place kicks but when it comes to barbecue, it's nice and tender and the barbecue sauce. The biscuits are soft and fluffy, and the food is absolutely to die for come and visit this place. They have super sweet owners and super sweet employees. They have good parking and their store is clean and tidy the cost of their needs are not that expensive. I would add some okra and cherry pie to that menu but it's wonderful as it is I would go again and again try this place you can thank me later. I had a bad craving for ribs and I have seen this place while driving Everett before so I decided I'd try it and I decided that on a random Monday night half an hour before closing! They were so awesome about it tho. I got a dinner plate with ribs , collard greens, baked beans and cornbread. Literally the one of the best BBQ plates I've ever had. The ribs were so perfectly cooked with the most savory/sweet bbq sauce 10/10. The baked beans and the collard greens were excellent texture and flavor not to salty or to plain. I'm gonna pull this bus over to humbly provide some needed clarity and perspective. I've been driving by this little house-turned-restaurant for a few years now. Constantly saying to myself "gotta try that place sometime". Finally the day came where I was finishing a work day across the street, had hardly eaten anything all day, and was craving good barbecue meat due to the smoky goodness wafting in the air. In anticipation I was asking for folks' experience with Lew's BBQ and one of the common responses I got was "it's really good but pricey" and this is where I must stop and shed some much needed light on the matter in defense of Lew and his soulful culinary works; 1. Meat is costly. To turn a profit in a restaurant based primarily on meat you've got to reasonably upcharge just to cover your overhead. 2. Lew is passionately cooking, curing, smoking, mixing, and hand preparing every ingredient day and night. You can taste his hard work. That's worth something I'm willing to pay for. 3. Stop allowing corrupt communists to seize power and tax the hell out of us for their own personal gain and forcing businesses to raise prices just to stay open. We The People always end up suffering by neglecting our duty to defend our homeland. (My words not Lew's so don't go freaking out and canceling him.) My first meal more than justified the cost. Lew was personable and welcoming. His story is an inspiration to every American citizen. His restaurant has a personality that doesn't exist in any other building around the world. I came back the next day for lunch after telling several people in my personal circle how damn good it was. My impression of Lew is that's he's a humbled man who's enjoying this chapter of his life. If you've got feedback then give it to him. He seems like the kind of man who would welcome a good dialogue with a customer. I'm happy and proud to support this local business for many reasons chief among them being that I thoroughly enjoy the food. Total rip off. Ordered a 60 dollar sampler platter and this is what you get. Fork for scale. For 60 bucks I'd have been happy with at least twice this much. Since there wasn't a picture on Uber Eats or a description of what this is, I went off of the prices of the individual meals and figured this would be enough food for a few people... it's not. If the pricing wasn't bad enough, it tastes terrible. Save your money, order from Dickies, you'll get more and it'll taste better. Will not be ordering from here again. read more

Went here for takeout last night, I've been here a couple of times before so I'm going with the soul food plate with a side chicken thigh. The sides you get with the soul food plate are black eyed peas,collard greens and mac n cheese. Oh I forgot to mention that ribs was my protein. I'm going to go ahead and talk about the side's first, the Mac n cheese is kinda lite on the cheese but I noticed a lot of smoke on the pasta so overall good but not great. The next two sides are my favorites I always get them the collard greens have some smoked pork in the broth which is awesome and the peas are savory goodness you have to try!!! Tonight's chicken thigh unfortunately was a little bit dry meat wise which was surprising since thighs usually are moister compared to a breast. The flavor and smoke level was good though. Lastly the ribs, man o man these were awesome they were bite through done no tug with the same sauce and flavor as the chicken! I really recommend Lew's for pickup there isn't a lot of seating if you want to dine in. All in all you can get a good bbq meal here! read more

Disappointed would be the word to use here. I've tried many BBQ places in Snohomish and King county. Some were good. This place was not one of them. Pulled pork sandwich was small and dry. Ribs were tender enough but not smoky and bland. Potato salad was fair. Nothing special. Greens were bland as well as the coleslaw. Again, all Nothing special. In our humble opinion try Brileys bbq in Kenmore. Very consistent and always delicious! We're just not BBQcountry here and it shows. Good luck y'all. read more

Had the ribs- the melt in your mouth fall of the bone perfectly barbecued ribs dripping with flavor rich sauce! Side of home made yum yum yummmm baked beans and semi sweet cornbread- the Mac and cheese was a delightful treat! Great food great staff and great story! Great food. A bit pricey but quality & taste make up for it IMO. Unreliable hours, I have waited out front of his place several times waiting for him to open. Very nice guy but way too preachy. It'd be nice to just get food without a sermon. I can't stand people that assume that I believe their religion, and I'm subjected to endless preaching. A tad holier than thou. Came back the next day at 2 pm, went in and sat there for a solid 10 minutes with one person in front of me, just a weird white dude play electric guitar behind the counter looking at us. I was not impressed. If you think this is good BBQ, you don't know good BBQ, and for that, I feel bad for you. Good BBQ is tender, flavorful, has a nice bark and is not drowned in sauce (unless you want it that way). The sides should be home made, with fresh, quality ingredients. It's not rocket science, but it does take some skill and dedication. Also, the owner/operator was rude. Maybe it was a bad day for him and his food. Was at the light next to Lew's last evening and looked over and saw his signage, instantly wanting brisket. Was immediately made to feel at home when I got to the door, it felt like stopping by your friends parents home for a plate of food. I really hate to do this because I ate here once before a couple years ago and liked it. Lew is a real nice guy who gives back a ton to the community and has an amazing story of his life. Today however, the food was terrible and I wonder if he didn't boil some of the meat before cooking it on a grill. The meat came swimming in BBQ sauce and when I was eating one of the ribs the bone was so soft I bit right into it like it was a soft vegetable. Both the chicken (drumsticks) and ribs were also burned on the outside which further makes me think they were pre boiled first and finished on a grill. The cornbread tasted like anything but and we had to throw out almost everything. The only thing worth eating were the collard greens. Sad to see this and will pray this was just an off day. read more

A true definition of a "hole in the wall restaurant!" My favorite type of restaurant! Pulled Chicken...(Not on the menu but he made it for me because I don't eat pork)...Amazing! The pieces of grilled chicken skin added to the top of the sandwich added a nice crunch to it...OMG delicious! All the sides were like the sides my southern family makes. The black eyed pees are to die for. I never had black eyed pees with corn and tomatoes (I think) in them. Well, now I don't want them any other way. Full of flavor! Super savory! The coleslaw had cranberries in it, I didn't think I would like it but it turns out, it added a sweetness I couldn't resist. My family gone think I'm weird when I ask for cranberries in my coleslaw. The potato salad...I would definitely take it to a barbecue. The greens, not my favorite but that's because I prefer sweet greens. They were a lil spicy (cool), very tender but I needed a lil more...I don't know what but something was missing. Now lets get to the environment! I felt like I was walking into someone's home. It's cozy and warm. The owners are welcoming! It's like a old school museum. There's lots to look at and appreciate. If you like southern food...I highly recommend! This place is ridiculous. Literally. Old food. Old bread. YUCK! I ordered a meal from here for lunch and I couldn't even continue after two bites it was so inedible. Chicken Sandwich with BURNT moist? Bread which tells me they cooked the bread and saved it even though it was burnt it wasn't crispy. EXCELLENT BBQ. Visiting from Texas and found this hidden gem next door to my hotel, block by bushes. On a walk, I stumbled upon it, decided to try their Slider special, needless to say, I've gone back again. I had Brisket Sliders, Potato Salad and a side of Collard Greens. Really good BBQ! We drove by and saw the pits were going and smelled wonderful. We decided on a sampler platter of meats and sides added a hot link for posterity and some sweet tea too. There wasn't an item we didn't enjoy. The cornbread was moist, the Mac n Cheese is smoked and full of flavor. Excellent place - great customer service. I highly recommend the food. Service is a little slow because the owner makesure that the quality of food being served is good. Good souk food like I used to get back home. Nice to have this place as a option since I don't get to go home for a good hone cooked meal that often. Been wanting to try Lew's for some time since I saw his ol' smoker out front and posts about his good community work. Ordered a Pulled Pork Sandwich and was offered sides of beans, potato salad OR coleslaw. The tab came to $22. That was the first shocker. Most importantly, my sandwich was just ok. The smoke on the pork was nice and I liked it. The meat, however, tasted similar to leftovers from the weekend. The sauce was really dark and sweet. The hoagie fell apart. SO disappointing overall. As Lew said, "Good BBQ is hard to find here." I wish this was one in that category. The slaw was good, a vinegar based, peppery flavor. Lew likes to tout what real BBQ is (e.g. his), how all BBQ judges should be chefs, (he's been one 40 years) and how he's doing God's work. OK then. Loved it after driving by so many times. Loved the Mac and cheese side and the sauce on the brisket was perfect. Will go back again.

My wife and I had driven past a few times and told ourselves when we were in the mood for some bbq we should check this place out. Glad we did! The chicken was amazing, the ribs literally fell off the bone and had perfect smoke and flavor and the brisket was the best I'd ever tried! Also, Lew is an honest, upfront owner that won't just tell you what you want to hear, but he WILL tell you how his food is all natural with no fructose corn syrup or preservatives...don't get him started As we walked out the door he said, "Thanks for coming and I'll see you soon...I know you'll be back!"
