I would give it less the 1 star if I could. $60 for 3 lunches that were awful. I had The Soul Food Platter, and the soul left that meal days ago and the Chicken was so dry I thought it was jerky, Papa Sangwich, well the fat lady sung (that's me) total waste of money. He bragged about his collard greens and people come from Tacoma to get them (one of my favor foods when done right) well, those people that drive that far for them, should go to the doctors because something is seriously wrong with them. Had high hopes, but when the owner asked us what we were doing there when we first walked in we knew something was off. The place is dark, and dirty. The menu prices were all scratched out. We love some good bbq and this wasn't it. We spent 50 bucks on two ribs, 3 half cup scoops of canned baked beans and four Hawaiian rolls with some meat on them. I hate to say I would rather go to j & L bbq in Snohomish. A lot more friendly and better food. read more

My thoughts in brief after having lunch there: 1. I asked if the potato salad was made there. I heard yes but it was clearly that same, generic reser's potato salad you get at grocery stores. I called to ask again and the guy said yet they buy it bulk. Maybe he misheard me earlier... I dunno. 2. The bun was that generic, seeded Franz bread you get on the cheap at the grocery store. Came in and waited 5 minutes for Lew to come out from the back, he asks, "here or to go?" I said here and he pointed at a table and said sit. I said all I want is the lunch... and he says "Not now, I'll get you in a bit." 5 minutes later he asks over the counter what I want and then runs out. 10 minutes later I get my food, kinda lame for $9.95. Some okay brisket over sauced, beans from a can and a store bought bun. I could have gone to Union Gospel and at least donated $10 and ate better. Go to the counter, buzz the door bell, and wait another 5 minutes for him and he pokes his head out and I wave money at him and he says I'll be right there. 5 minutes later I leave the cash on the counter and walk out. The other people in line do too. Over priced and the owner must be on crack, no really, he must be back there nursing a crack pipe and once in a while slapping some overcooked stale ass food on a paper plate. Oh, you have to eat the crap with the cheapest plastic forks made. Oh, you better like GOD if you are there, and the Lakers. All the walls are filled with thanks to them. That Lou is allowed to have sharp knives is proof the the mental health system in Snohomish County is non-existent. I went with the soul platter while my husband did something like the 'big boy.' Basically I had ribs, black-eye peas, greens, mac and cheese, and cornbread. He had baked beans and a hot link/pulled pork thing. Lew (I'm assuming he's Lew) - seems to do all the work at this place. He was extremely friendly, and the food came out quickly. We chose to take it to go because it was lovely out. Ribs were meaty, and the sauce was the kind I like - not too thick, and more vinegary than sweet. There were 3 on the platter. I thought the greens were very good - still a bit crisp, not stewed beyond all recognition and devoid of flavor. I liked that the black-eye peas were mixed with corn and tomato, which is not a way I've had them prepared before. It worked well. The mac and cheese wasn't mind-blowing (it's usually my favorite bbq side), but it was passable. Believe me, I've had bad mac and cheese and this wasn't it. The corn bread didn't really do anything for me, but again that's something that can always be hit or miss. For my husband's food, I'm not really a baked beans person, so I don't have anything to say. He seemed to be pleased. I did try his hot link sammitch and was really impressed. I think it may have been the best hot link I've ever had. Usually they wind up being more like a polish sausage with a bit of heat. This link was a completely different texture with a really decent kick. The pulled pork topping with melted cheese was a nice touch. I think next time I'll just have the link. Coming from the Midwest it's good to know where the good encased meat is for when I need a fix - I think I've found my first go-to. As an aside, for those of you griping about the location being dirty - have any of you ever been to a real bbq joint before? This place was immaculate by comparison. Lighten up. read more

Not sure about the food because he never opened!! Went by at 11:15 since we smelled the BBQ goodness. We got to the front door to an open door but locked screen door. We walked around back and even yelled in but no answer. We figured he was still prepping so I gave him a call. He answered he'd be open in about 15 minutes. So we decided to wait (supporting local businesses right?). Around 11:40, we go back and still no Lew. We sat out front to give him about 5 minutes but nothing. We walked to our car and saw a guy out back and he said "I'm the guy you're looking for." He then said he'd be open in about 5 minutes which probably meant 15 to 20. Not sure what the food tastes like buy based on other reviews, not worth the wait. I'm pretty generous when it comes to small local businesses especially BBQ but Lew doesn't seem to care much about "customer service" or understand the "open" sign concept. I have to update my review after taking a trip to south. Lew's is pretty good, but it's got a ways to go to get to the quality I found there. The things I enjoyed in the south that are lacking at Lew's: Better combos for two or more diners. Being able to get multiple meats and sides for a reasonable price would be an awesome addition. In Florida (and yes, I know, the cost of living is lower there, but we ate BBQ a lot more often because it was more affordable) we were able to get 4 meats and 4 sides, enough to feed four people and have leftovers for $40. Sauces! I loved the sauces in the south. The place we frequented had four different sauces to choose from, all thick and delicious and they were complimentary with the meal. Generous portions were provided, even when we requested some of each of the four sauces. In my opinion, it's the sauce that makes the barbecue. Lew does have a couple of sauces, but you have to buy them, the portions are very small, and it's not good sauce. If Lew fixed those two things, I'd be eating there all the time instead of the once every few months we do now. read more

zero stars Lew was obnoxious, wouldn't stop gloating about how superior his food was. The food was far from it and smelled so strongly of unnatural fuel that our appetites were all lost. When we informed him he told us all that we just weren't accustomed to eating "real" BBQ and that we were simply mistaken... I ordered the dinner plate with baby back ribs and I got three small ribs, over cooked greens lacking flavor, a dinner roll that I wouldn't serve to anyone and weak bbq sauce. I was really not happy with anything on my plate other than the potato salad that came out of a plastic bucket! I felt patronized when Lew opened my dinner box and pointed to each item and said "These are your ribs, this is the potato salad, this is your dinner roll, and here are your greens." Great BBQ! I went to Lew's with my work team of 4 men who have high food standards and this place got overwhelmingly positive reviews from each one of them. The atmosphere is an old house with eclectic decor everywhere. Lew himself assisted us and delivered excellent customer service. Heard about Lew's through the grapevine and decided to give it a try today, for lunch, because there's a dirth of BBQ places in Snohomish County and I haven't had good BBQ in a long while! The look of the place when you walk in is very clean. Simple. The menu matches the decor: clean & simple - 8 items, 5 sides, 4 beverages. "Now Accepting Visa & Mastercard" rounds out the information. I decided on the $6.95 lunch special that includes a choice of meat (I ordered the brisket) and one side (I ordered the baked beans). But for good measure, I ordered a side of cole slaw for an additional $1.95. Not a bad deal, I thought. I only had to wait about 5 minutes for the to go order and I was out the door. My first impression as I was walking to my car was that the parking lot smelled delicious! The smoke from the smoker out back was wonderful...it made my stomach growl and my mouth water in expectation of a great lunch. My second impression was that my to go order felt very light. I'm not a small person so I acknowledge that I probably eat too much anyway. But still, I'd like to feel SOME heft. Silly me, I didn't look in the bag like I should of. When I got to my office and opened the container, I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice-sized roll to accompany the meal! It wasn't even mentioned on the menu, so it was a bonus. However, I was sad to see that my cole slaw was forgotten. I called Lew's and the man who answered (who I can only imagine as Lew himself) said he would take care of me on Monday when I come back in! He said, "It's simple. We owe you!" He wrote down my name and where I worked. Third impression was of great customer service! I can't wait until Monday. After hanging up the phone, I went on the business of eating! I have to say, my second impression was correct - not tons of food. But Americans over eat anyways, right? However the flavor was pretty darn good! The brisket had this nice black crust on the ends of the tender pieces. At once you could taste the smokiness of Lew's process, allowing the flavor of the meat to shine through. But you also got the salt/brine bite of the crust! And in a couple of my bites, I got a little bit o' fat which really added to the flavor (my Mexican grandmother would have loved it!) The meat was moist...with a hint of grease left in the container (which was perfect for my surprise roll). The baked beans had a chunk o' bacon in them and they were perfect - not too salty and not too sweet! Mixed with the other part of the roll, it was dee-lish. Most of my skinny friends would probably have said, "Oh. I'm so full!" But that's why they're skinny and really nice to sit next to on a plane. Me? I wanted more. Really makes me wish I had my cole slaw. :-) But that's Monday when I go back. Next time I think I'll pony up the extra $2.00 and order the dinner special at lunch time because "portions are larger than lunch". Crazy...I know. Crazier still is the idea that, instead, I might just have to order the "Big Daddy". For $7.95 you get the following AND one side: "smoked beef sausage or hot link on a hoagie roll topped with bacon, pulled pork, and BBQ cheese sauce". I came here because of all the great reviews and due to a lack of knowledge of the area. I'm honestly disappointed, I really tried to like this place but it just wasn't anything special or different. The food, customer service, and experience was mediocre at best. Also be mindful there's only one guys that does everything so you'll need to be patient (not why I'm giving it 2/5) the food was bland, over priced but came quickly. You're better off bbq-ing your own food. I will say that his customer service lacked in comparison to average restaurants as he was giving off the vibe that he was disinterested. Where there is smoke there is fire right? Unfortunately not today. I had the sampler platter pork beef (rib) not (ribs) subbed hot link for chicken side of Mac and cheese. Plate came out smothered in sauce that had a sweet peppery taste not bad but the meat tasted the same across the board not too bad I finished my plate. The Mac and cheese was good. Total was 16 bucks Pros... Casual quirky layout. Friendly person at the front. Big smoker out front working. I will try this place again as the staff was friendly. I cannot conceive how this place even got a 5 star review...I came here for dinner and left hungry....first, a positive...the bathroom was clean and the cook was friendly. However, everything else fell short. The restaurant itself cannot even lay claim to being a dive...it's just plain old, faded, and dirty. The garbage bin had no lid and was prominently displayed within sight and smell of sitting customers. The smell of a BBQ joint should not be cat litter.... The cook took the orders and his less than stellar waiter followed him around and required prompting to get utensils or napkins. What was just plain disgusting and demonstrated sheer laziness and utter contempt for the customer was the actions of the cook.. When he forgot bread on one person's plate...he put on gloves( one star for that) and then hand carried the roll and set it on the guy's plate...he could have put it on another paper plate (yeah the meal was on paper plates)..but no, he just walks out from the back with the roll in his hand and then sets it on the plate...no smell of cooking BBQ but they produced cooked meat almost instantaneously...ordered the half rack..the meat did come off the bone but texture wise it was suspect and the flavor of the meat bland...but since they tried to smother it in watery sauce, it may be difficult for one to tell...the potato salad was tasteless. The corn bread was cold and tasted terrible and dry.. Dipping in sauce could not salvage the cornbread. As we left, I observed the waitperson exiting a small shed attached to the main restaurant holding a slab of meat in his hand and walking into the back presumably to the kitchen...yeah, no plate.. Just walking from a shed OUTSIDE!!! And then into a another building holding the order of the next customer in his hand!!! (but gloved). If it was hot off any grill, it would not be in his hand...the two reviews exalting this place have to be just plain ignorant when comparing this to New Orleans BBQ?!! Who are you kidding!!!! Where to begin? Well this had to be the worst BBQ I have ever had! The mac n'cheese was bland and forgettable! The cornbread was thin, dry and poor excuse for cornbread. Probably a box brand. The beans were awful, our daughter complained that they were too soft. She is 7 years old. Omg the BBQ sauce was terrible!! Watery and vinegary, an injustice for BBQ sauce! We came across Lew's BBQ at Bob's Corn in Snohomish. The Hot Link Sandwich with grilled onions and cheese was great! AC Lewis, the Pitmaster of Lew's BBQ offered a sampling of his other delights including the chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and ribs! I'll have to say that it was some of the best BBQ I've had anywhere (and I've had some pretty damn good BBQ's in New Orleans, Cincinnati, and Seattle). I'd recommend it to all of you! We were craving BBQ and ended up at Lew's for our fix. We happened to get there just before they opened at 3:30 pm so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I like to eavesdrop on what people are buying to see if there is a popular item. Lew was extremely nice and patient with us while ordering. He recommended their sampler platter with a few sides. Everything looked great so i was a bit disappointed when i took a bite out of it and it was just so so..The brisket and cornbread was our favorite and would highly recommend it. The ribs however were over cooked and the chicken, pulled pork and the sausage links were okay. I'm a sucker for sauces and the base was very vinegary. I just prefer a more sweet/tangy taste and wished they offer more sauce options other than regular and hot that was available. Overall, we had better BBQ. read more
