In a word-Badass. I tried the 2+2 with brisket and ribs with Potato Salad, Reds and Gravy, and Cole Slaw. I then sampled the hot-links. This is the best Barbecue around. It is a must if you are in the Snohomish area. Even if you're not- go and make a trip to it. The Potato Salad and Slaw were some of the best sides I've had in a bbq or fried chicken place. The gravy on the reds was excellent. The ribs and the brisket together was a nice balance and they were both flavorful. I went purely on staff recommendations and they were spot on. The owner was in and he was friendly and I've had barbecue in Texas as well as several establishments in WA. J&L is excellent. Like mentioned earlier, go try it out. This place would fit right in... perhaps not at the top of the list, but certainly above the bottom! Finding perfect brisket in Everett WA was absolutely not my expectation, yet here it is! I was lucky that the place I intended to go for dinner was closed, or I probably wouldn't have even tried J&L BBQ. I WILL be back, though! The parking is not great. There aren't a lot of spots and it can be hard to get in and out of especially in a large vehicle. Once inside, there isn't a lot of seating. The owner is the nicest person and makes you feel very welcomed. He is patient and takes his time to help you decide what to order if you need it. Being from the South, it is hard to find good BBQ in the PNW but this place hits the spot when we aren't in the mood to BBQ ourselves. The ribs, chicken, and sausage are great. What a great surprise! We were in snohomish visiting antique shops with relatives from abroad and we were looking for a good lunch option. We were intrigued by this BBQ and decided to give it a shot. I tried calling in an order on a Sunday afternoon. As an older person, I sometimes need a little extra patience, but unfortunately, the person who answered wasn't very understanding. When I asked the same question twice, he told me to look at the menu online and then hung up. I don't often leave 2-star reviews because I understand how hard it is to run a business. We've been going to this bbq place for some time now. Brisket is good. Tri tip is amazing. Ribs fall off the bone. Overall good meats! We've ordered for parties before as well. This past Sunday, July 14, the service has been sub par. Front desk had miscommunication about bringing our food to our car. We waited a solid 30 mins. When I went in to check, I got a quick apology and staff went on about their day. Our food was cold. In addition, I had ask staff to double check the sauces that were ordered. We ordered 3 extra sauces including mild and spicy. He pointed onto the plastic bag to reassure me all sauces were accounted for. I had driven out already, only for my girlfriend to tell me (who doubled checked the bag) there were no extra sauces. We went back to the store to get the sauces. More time was wasted bout food was cold for the party we were attending. I've ignored previous times when sauces were forgotten. But it seems to keep recurring. It was an overcast Sunday afternoon, and my church peeps were hungry, so we made our way to J&L BBQ. It was amaze-balls!! My friend and I ordered 2 meats and 2 sides -- yayy, choices! We got brisket (yum), chicken thighs (double-yum) with reds & gravy (yes, please) and collard greens (no, thank you). Everything was rich in flavor, and awesome in texture. Now, I don't want to diss on greens, they just don't make my palate sing. But, I know it's not all about me (no, really, it isn't), but my companion loved them. Let's talk about the reds and gravy -- so amazing. Seriously, guys, it's a religious experience I don't know what they put in there, but, boy howdy, they are heavenly. The chicken thighs were moist and flavorful. Lastly, we are going to talk about the brisket -- beautifully smoky and texturally spot-on. Oh, crap, I almost forgot to mention the cornbread -- awesome, awesome. But, the spread they serve is true bliss. Applesauce, butter and I believe a spot of cloves. Make sure you get cornbread!!! Great customer service and delicious food! I had only had J&L in catering situations, and have only heard great things from others. We just swung in for dinner 9/7/25 because I was craving the cole slaw and my partner was craving the Mac n cheese after having both and more at a wedding last week. Didn't disappoint! We ordered to go and opted to wait in the car while they packed our order. It was ready quickly, everything was packed neatly and was nice and hot when we got home. The Mac n cheese was forgotten, but when we went back for it, they were so apologetic and offered an additional side at no cost for returning. There's really no better indication of a great BBQ experience ahead than the smell of smoke in the parking lot and a HUMONGOUS pile o' firewood stacked next to the front door. And this is just what I found on a recent visit to Snohomish as I pulled in to J&L BBQ for some takeout. It wasn't too busy on a rainy Sunday, and I quickly ordered a pulled pork sam (with spicy sauce, which was on the side) and a side of collard greens. They do have a limited amount of outdoor seating, but it was a little drizzly so I took it to go. They kind lady at the counter asked me to wait in my car while my food was prepped - I appreciated this extra safety feature during these covid times! I went back to my car and, no joke, only sat for about 2 minutes before my piping hot sammy and greens were brought out. The smells were SO amazing it was hard not to just eat it right there in the parking lot. Instead, I headed to a local brewery and nommed on my food in the car while I waited for them to open. (Was gonna wait until I had a beer beside me but the cravings were too much!) The sandwich was DELICIOUS. It was piled SO high with tender, falling-apart pulled pork. I loved the "shred" of the pork. It wasn't over-shredded as tends to happen sometimes with pulled pork. But it wasn't just in huge chunks either, which (for me at least) tend to fall out of the sandwich and onto my shirt. Thus explaining why most of my shirts are stained in some kind of saucy way. But I digress. The pull of this meat was just right. I added sauce as I went, and enjoyed the spice level. It was definitely spicy, but not in a tears-running-down-my-face sort of way. The biggest star of this BBQ fest was the epic collard greens. Cooked in some kind of magical way, they were salty, vinegary, meaty, tender and just plain over-the-top amazing. I grew up with a stepmom from Tennessee, and she made mean collard greens. The collards we're great; I liked that they were cooked with some meat (pork maybe?) because it imbued them with flavor without needing to smother them in butter or oil. One confusing thing was that for the combos, the prices change disproportionately. For example, the 2 meat/2 sides was about $22, so you'd expect the 3 meat/3 side to be about $33, but actually it is $50ish. I like BBQ; however my wife doesn't. Since my wife was dining with a friend I figured now or never to give J&L a try. Free parking can be found in the small parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Indoors is small with a few 4-topper tables; not ideal for a large party. I placed a to-go order of the Mix & Match 2 meats and 2 sides for $19.95. There is not an up-charge for to-go orders. I chose the Chicken Breast and Jalapeno Cheddar Hot Link as my meats and the Baked Beans and Mac & Cheese as my sides. I opted for the hot BBQ sauce. Ordering was straight forward and my meal was ready within minutes. I'm not a fan of Styrofoam packaging; however, my to-go order was packaged well. The chicken was moist and tender with a mild smoke flavor. The sausage link flavorful with a mild spice level. The baked beans were hearty with a smattering of meat as an ingredient. The mac & cheese was standard. The spicy BBQ sauce was on the savory side rather than the sweet side which is how I prefer my BBQ sauce. Overall, my favorite part of my meal was the Jalapeno Cheddar Hot Link. The price point is a bit steep; however, I don't eat BBQ often so I am willing to spend a fair amount of money when I do. read more

So, the search for good BBQ in WA continues. This place is charming. Love the decorations they've done with the small space. But it's a strikeout on food. I don't post any reviews below three (usually below four) stars without visiting a place more than once. Anyone can have an off day. It's hard to have several spaced days or weeks or even months apart. That's why I have that personal standard of multiple visits. The ribs were decent. The cornbread was good. The mac and cheese is pretty normal mac and cheese. The greens are oddly flavored. The pulled pork is okay (but just okay). The brisket is a disaster. On every visit. The brisket is dry and relatively flavorless. J&L has told me every time I have been there how their BBQ and especially their brisket is the best in the region and as good or better than anything you can find in Texas. They also regale you with how the owner makes several trips to Texas a year. Well, I don't know where he's going in Texas, but he needs to change his scouting trips to some better places. As someone who grew up in Texas and has deep family roots there (and a couple of Hill Country family members doing BBQ catering in Dallas) and in North Carolina and Georgia (and Italy--hey, they do low and slow over fire, believe me), I completely disagree with their self assessment. This is NOT good BBQ. The place itself is cool. The sides are okay. Some of the meat is okay. But overall, this isn't a place I'll be returning to. read more

I ordered the 2 meat/2 sides plate (I don't know where they get that. It feeds two people... Maybe I eat as much as two people lol) and it was very tasty and filling. They don't have hot links there, but they now have cheddar jalapeno links. The brisket was tender, and with a little fat on top, carried a lot of flavor. The bark had a lot of flavor in it, too. Their greens are tasty, with just the right amount of salt, sour, and heat to make it real tasty. The mac and cheese had just come out, so it was very hot and cheesy. Good BBQ. Had a variety tri-tip, pulled pork and brisket because well you need to try a variety and I always try the brisket. Excellent all the way around. Good smoke, stands on its own with no sauce. The BBQ sauce they have is a little sweet for my taste but decent, the hot is about a medium level of spice and seems to be the mild just kicked up a notch. Hands down the tie tip was my favorite. Good smoked flavor and not over seasoned. Cooked well enough to be tender. Brisket was a good solid brisket. Fall apart tender and good flavor as was the pulled pork. The Mac and cheese as a side was ok, didn't stand out but it was nicely cheesy. Overall I would absolutely be going back. I'll get photos next time as well. read more

After binge watching Food TV BBQ Championships all Saturday morning, my husband and I decided to head on down to J&L. We both ordered spicy chicken thigh and brisket, beans and coleslaw. We were both blown away by how good it was. Deliciously seasoned, cooked to perfection and the sauce was so good! Both sides were also perfect! OMG, this restaurant has the absolute best bbq ribs and tri tip roast beef I have ever put into my mouth. I couldn't stop eating and got so stuffed I couldn't move after dinner. Their potato salad is delicious, and they make a savory and unique slice of corn bread, don't forget the cornbread! They are a little spendy but what BBQ restaurant isn't. It is so worth the prices they charge and I plan on going back again, I love and drool over the thought of biting into that scrumptious Tri Tip roast beef again.
