It was very easy to place an order online. When we arrived, they were putting the finishing touches on our order. Service was friendly and engaging. We ordered the 4 Meats and 4 Sides Meal for 4 to 6 plus 2lbs of Pork Ribs. See our pictures to see what we picked up. We liked how the items were separated with foil. Hot items were hot and cold items were cold, as expected. We were asked if we needed plastic ware or plates, which we did not. They still put in plenty of napkins and some wet wipes. The food? Pork Spare Ribs - 5 - Nice smokey flavor and very tender. Really didn't need sauce but we had plenty of mild and spicy on hand. Links - 5 - Good textures and excellent flavors. They gave us both flavors because they had run out of the one we ordered. Yay for us! Chicken Thighs - 5 - Thick, meaty, juicy thighs. Tri-tip - 5 - Very tender. Beef Brisket - 4 - I forgot to ask for "Juicy" and some of our slices were on the drier side. That's my bad. Smashed Potato Salad - 5 - Excellent! Cole Slaw - 5 - As expected. Cowboy Caviar - 5 - I don't remember trying this before so I don't know how it compares to that of others, but we liked it just fine. Would we order it again? Maybe but I missed having Mac & Cheese too. Collards - 4 - Tender but a tad salty on the back end for me. We had plenty of leftovers after dinner, so we boiled some asparagus, toasted some Hawaiian Rolls, fried some eggs, air fried some hash browns and reheated some of the meats for breakfast. We were really excited to find a good BBQ place while we were in town. We have a popular joint where we live but don't go often because the prices are steep and portions are small. We finally found a REALLY good BBQ place in the PNW. I was raised here, but lived in Florida for 9 years where I discovered the real deal. After moving back here it's been a struggle to find a restaurant that has everything I expect. This place has it. Pork ribs were juicy and flavorful. Pulled pork was perfectly smoked and tender. Coleslaw was fresh, creamy, and lightly sweetened. BBQ beans were delicious as well. And the Corn bread with cinnamon sugar butter? Just wow. The service was fantastic as well. I had a chance to go to J&L BBQ a couple weeks back with some friends. When we went in, there was a line of about 5 people and only one employee working. This sounds like a recipe for disaster, as the line was soon 10 people deep, but that employee just kept smiling, apologizing for the delay, and serving up that delicious BBQ. It wasn't the best BBQ I've had, I think there are several states that would argue if I tried to say that, but I will say that of all the BBQ I've had in the greater Seattle area, this one was my favorite. The prices weren't bad, you get a lot of food for your money. I think I got a meal with one meat and two sides, and the sides are quite large. I got the mac n' cheese, baked beans, and the briskey. It was all really good, especially the mac n' cheese. I also got a jalapeno sausage on the side, which was good but nothing special...not spicy enough. The BBQ sauce could use a little kick as well, but that's a pretty minor complaint. I think if you go to J&L BBQ you might not be blown away, but you won't be disappointed. read more

So had a coworker, tell us about this place. And then several other coworkers went there and they have all been raving about J&L BBQ. So decided to go to this location vs Snohomish since this is where everyone went. It's conveniently located right next to the Irishman. Austin, was very helpful and very informative of the menu. I went with the the 2 meat, 2 side combo. But I had to try pulled pork slider, because I need a sample of that, cause every now and then I love a good pulled pork sandwich. Added the corn bread, the honey butter that goes with, was delicious. They do have two other locations. One is in Snohomish. That is where they prepare all their meats. It just wasn't very good. We got the 2 meat 2 side combo with brisket, tri-tip, Mac n cheese and potato salad and almost everything was just bland. The brisket and the tri tip were extremely tender but lacked any sort of seasoning, thankful for the bbq sauce at the tables but come on. The Mac n cheese was creamy but lacked seasoning as well. The one thing we didn't have to fix with salt or bbq sauce was the potato salad. We also had really strange service from the cashier. She looked like she was maybe freshly 16. Didn't say a single word to us just stared at us waiting for our card. When we asked for a water, she just stood there staring at us and didn't say anything, it was actually a little creepy and odd. Pretty dang good barbecue right off of Colby! Had their four meats four sides deal; brisket, tri tip, chicken, and pulled pork, the sides included Mac and cheese, collard greens, potato salad, and baked beans. The collard greens were hands down my favorite, I could drink the juice! I love collard greens when they're done right and these were perfection! The potato salad was amazing and well seasoned. My favorite meats were the chicken and pulled pork. The chicken was juicy, moist, and full of flavor! The spicy and regular bbq sauces were pretty much icing on the cake, so good! I give it a four average here's why service 5 stars big portion for me for a fair price, the staff was super super super helpful with either the meal deals or pick what you want meal what I got I just want combo stuff and , they help your to take out trays and extra sauce Togo. Second. The place was clean with I think is hardwood floors but I do admit that the spicy sauce should be change to tangy sauce, but I drown my food in it anyway. I don't know the difference between Texas barbecue or Kansas City style , I just like it messy, my favorite is beef ribs but the pork ribs will do just fine. If you eat at this place and you lick your finger, you automatically have to give this place 4 stars. I got ribs and chicken with Mac and cheese and collard greens, hahah I needed a green veggie and since they didn't have any verde sauce , I have to kept it real. And second meal plate was brisket and beef with cowboy beans and corn bread, I have to admit I like my cornbread yellow just like my coffee without and whip cream and mocha chocolate and syrup not even sugar, black and hot. Terrible service. I was in line and handicap. I had never been to the restaurant before. The lady at the counter yelled at me, " If I didn't know what I wanted to order then I needed to get out of her line." I couldn't believe her. The other customers were really kind and stepped back and told me to take my time because they didn't know what they wanted either. Their brisket was very lean, smokey and fall of your fork tender. Their beans and collards are as good as my favorite place in Texas. Now I'm ALWAYS disappointed by potato salad when I go to a BBQ spot, but NOT HERE! Definitely one of the best potato salads I've had! It was really delicious! The coleslaw was excellent and the Cowboy Caviar was a gigantic hit with my Mom, who loves bean salad. These guys offer a solid menu of BBQ favorites. Probably as close as I could come to writing a classic core menu off the top of my head would be the menu these guys light up every day. Prices are fair, service is super duper nice, and the setting is fine. It's right downtown off Colby, and as far as I know is essentially the same menu and personality as their other locations east toward the mountains. It's right next to the Everett Theater, which is probably a lot cooler than I ever realized, but that's an adventure for another day. At the moment I'm finally getting another BBQ place under my belt in my quest to survey the local bbq scene. This place has a few tables inside a long narrow space. There's a lot of counter, a lot of kitchen, a lot of office, and just 8-10 tables or so out front. It's cool seeing somebody barbecuing right in the downtown core of a city (even a small city), but it sure does eat up a lot of space that another joint might could use for more seating. Toward the back of the dining room, you get your drink out of the cooler. They do have a couple beers on tap, probably an IPA and a Vitamin R, maybe a couple other kegs hooked up. The bathroom's way in the back, and like most bbq places, it's at about a convenience-store level of cleanliness and invitingness. Lots of paint and painting supplies stored in there yesterday. Kinda cracks me up how so many bbq places always look like they just opened and are still finishing up some details. But what really matters here is the food. The brisket was juicy and tender, good flavor. Quite a bit of fat but that's fine. Tri-tip was super tasty, just begging to be turned into a sandwich (I skip carbs throughout, but you should get the sandwich). Collards had nice flavor, not oversweetened, showing their natural leafy bitterness. Chicken thighs were fantastic, just cooked to the exact point of perfect doneness where they're not too soggy nor too dry. I'd love to try more of the menu based on what we tried yesterday. Overall, everything this place does is classically styled on bbq tradition. They're not throwing any twists at you with offbeat specials, or an alternate rub on one of the meats, or anything too unconventional. I have to say I'd happily eat this again anytime, but I could also always drive a few more miles in one direction or another and get something with a little extra personality on the table. So it'll all come down to how much time I have for a meal. read more

The coleslaw is mayo based and thin so it's not too rich. The brisket oozes with juice and has so much flavor! But if you like your meat saucey there's yummy bbq sauce options on the tables. I haven't been to J & L BBQ in quite a while, and when I did, I usually went to the Snohomish location, which is small and mostly take out. I always loved their BBQ, but we moved further away, and it wasn't convenient to go there anymore. This time, we were attending a show at the theater next door and decided to eat here at the Everett location. The service was awesome. There were two ladies at the counter taking orders and dishing up, and they were great. We had brisket, pork ribs, collard greens, baked beans, and corn bread. The meats were excellent, the collard greens were amazing, and the cinnamon butter for the cornbread really did the trick! I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the baked beans, though. They were a mix of red and yellow beans, and the sauce wasn't what I typically see in a BBQ restaurant. Besides that, the food is great, and if you are in the area and hungry, you will definitely get your money's worth here. read more
