What a novel idea to use buns made from the dough you would expect from a traditional Chinese style bao bun. I ordered this through door dash so I keep in mind that everything would be even hotter and crispier if I had it right away. First, the double bacon smash was so flavorful! I love the sauce they put on it. I can't figure out what it was as it even had a bit of spice to it, which I appreciate. The bao bun is a bit chewier than a standard potato bun, which helps it to hold its shape. My kid had the loco moco burger and he loved the flavor as well. The fries had some green sauce on them which I didn't expect. In looking at the menu, they offer chimchuri sauce. This was a pleasant surprise. I liked that. The fries are crinkle cut and helped to keep the sauce in there. The tater tots were super crispy, even after getting them delivered. Small place. Inconsistent hours. We went on 3 occasions when they said they were open but when we got there they were not. The burger special is a super thin patty overly smashed on the grill. It is seasoned well but so thin. The burger is more bun than burger. The cuban sandwich is ok but very messy and the cheese was burned to the bread. So, these guys are hilarious & the food is amazing! Let me explain. We walk in, and I tell the first person how much we've been wanting to try the food, and he literally stares us down & says "ok", then walked off haha. We notice that the space only has maybe 4 or 5 tables, and they are designed for "we don't want you to stay here" lol - extremely tall tables & those rickety, unstable tall metal stools. My SO fell over at least once, trying to scooch in closer to the table & help his dad. Maybe twice when he had to jump up quick & catch something his dad dropped by accident. When taking our order, the lady there was extra gruff, and more than twice told me we couldn't have something a specific way lol. I think it might have been stuff like extra cheese, go easy on the sauce, etc. But they had no problem giving us extra sauces & a knife when we needed to cut pop's food. Anyway, the menu is slightly limited, but amazing options. We got a huge basket of torigachi seasoned tots first, so delicious, and Korean spicy ketchup - so good on the tots! A bit later two mushroom burgers & the HUGEST chicken katsu burger came out. OMG I swear it weighed like 3 pounds! The cutlet was several inches over each side, and the burger was literally too big to bite, so I took pop's knife & cut off some slices & dipped them in the side of katsu sauce I got. Good goddamn it was good! It was too intimidating to try to eat. I was shook. So I went back to the tots. All the sauces tasted fresh made too. The other two's burgers were awesome as well & they couldn't finish. We had ordered cans of coke & a couple of fresh made bottled Vietnamese coffees, and when we didn't get them out of the cooler fridge fast enough, the lady came out & slammed them on the table haha! So, we had a ton of good to take home & asked for a bag, and the lady sneered that they only had paper bags. The bags were hella thin & topped, so the SO had to juggle a ton of stuff because the lady didn't offer another bag lol. On the way out I made a point to tell guy #2 how much we loved the food. He scoffed & shrugged, then walked off. All in all it was very entertaining and the food is BOMB. I'm ordering to go next time for sure - the atmosphere is far from relaxing, so no point trying to stick around to eat in. Five stars for the shtick alone! read more

The looks are deceiving! STEER CLEAR! The ideas had potential but unfortunately the execution is not there. The bread is soggy, the pickles are too bright, the meat is too salty, and there is too much sauce. It taste like the kitchen sink between two slices of bread left out in the rain. A sandwich is supposed to be layered and the ingredients are supposed to compliment one another. They really need to take a step back and think about what it means to construct a proper sandwich. Toast the bread. Dial back the seasoning on the meat. Balance the pickles with something sweet. Cut back the sauce in half! What are you trying to hide by dumping so much sauce on? Excellent pork bahn mi sandwich. It was our first time at Bao Boss, and we're definitely going back. Very clean space with outdoor seating and super friendly staff. Stopped her for lunch. It's a nice little quaint spot with just a few tables on the inside and a covered area on the outside with more seating. Honestly the whole menu looks delicious, but I ended up settling on the Birria Baguette. It was delicious and very filling. A bit on the salty side(which was to be expected). Be prepared it's very messy! My sister ordered the loco moco bao burger which I almost got. She said it was fantastic. I wanted to try it but I was way too full. Thirdly we ordered the chimchurri fries. This was the only downfall of the meal. They looked more like an afterthought and really had no taste for what they were. Just a classic ground chuck burger on sandwich bread (toasted), but with great interesting toppings, including the kimchi. Big flavors--comforting but new and different at the same time. Birria baguette Huge mess, which I immediately made messier by adding a fried egg to the proceedings. The birria was even a bit chewy, rather than the expected stew-y type meat, but that lent it nice-enough texture. It tasted good, even if the texture was not the usual with birria. Very soft white bread. Tots The usual tots, served well-done, pretty crunchy. The sauces are where it is AT, though: Spicy Asian Ranch is about what it sounds like, and very good. The Japanese Curry Mayo, though, holy cow. Curry belongs in mayo, at least for a meal like. So, so, so damn good. They come in little vials like you might get from an old apothecary shop or something--cool touch. I also ordered onions and mushrooms, more or less as sides for the baguette. Tasty stuff. They'd be better actually on the sandwich but there's no way there's room. I gotta get in here in person and check out a sandwich fresh from the kitchen. read more

Seriously the best sandwich shop I have ever been to. Is there a way to give bonus stars? The outside doesn't look very inviting, more like a permanent food truck vibe. Food comes in brown paper bags. There is one guy cooking and one on the register with only counter service. But as the saying goes: don't judge this place by its cover. The food is absolutely epic. The flavors complex and kept developing between bites. We started with the Loco Moco Burger and it had an elevated compilation of deep curry mayo, the smooth egg yoke, juicy smash patties, perfectly melty cheese, and a heavenly cloud textured bao bun. I didn't think it could get better but when I tasted the Birria Baguette it was love at first bite. My tongue wanted more time to bathe in the flavor, but it was sooo good my brain wanted me to ravenously devour it so none of it could escape. I do not have the words to covey how it's an amazing absolute piece of art. The flavor balance is on point. The combo of slow roasted brisket simmered and slathered with a magical combo of a Korean take on birria, garlic, and chimmichurri sauces popped like fireworks. The sauce was complimented with super fresh onions and cilantro. The pickled red onions were like a cherry on top of perfection. I actually licked the paper wrapper it came in. I am from Philly and have been very critical of west coast sandwich shops in the past. This place elevated the bar! Their birria baguette is now my new #1 sandwich. I arrived within 2 minutes of my pickup window and spent less than 5 minutes driving before eating my meal. I was really craving a bahn mi and I have heard a bit of buzz about Boa Boss so I decided to try them out. In addition to my bahn mi I also got the chimichurri fries. My sandwich was a good size and did have good flavor. It was just not what I would consider a bahn mi, which is what I actually wanted. I had an incredibly strong flavor of pickle which was quite off putting. My fries were subpar flavor wise and were also very very soggy. This is probably partly because I ordered to go but also because they had sauce on them already. The location seems clean and the person at the counter greeted me and reminded me to grab my drink on my way out which I very much appreciated. We got bao boss for takeout a few weeks back. I tried the Krueben, while my wife ordered the braised pork belly bahn mi, and we split an order of the chimichurri fries. Overall, I didn't love it. The Krueban had some delicious korean style corned beef brisket on it. But the spicy pickles kinda overpowered everything for me. I also knew it was gonna be a messy sandwich, but it kinda turned into a sloppy mess at the end. It was good but not for me. The wife felt the same way about her bahn mi. It ended up pretty messy and the bread was soggy for her. The chimichurri fries were good, not great. Both of our thai iced teas were great. If you look through the menu, you'll notice a lot of the items look big and messy. And I don't prefer that. So maybe bao boss isn't for us? And maybe it'll be for you!
