First time here and the entire experience was at the top of the scale. It was my mother's 85th birthday and we made reservations during Sunday brunch and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is high end yet not stuffy. The choices are varied and many during brunch since they have a separate brunch menu and you can also order from the regular menu and specials. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing. He answered our questions with full sentences not yes or no. My daughter asked to substitute park of her meal and it was done with no additional costs. Our orders were placed and we received our meals without delay and everything not only looked good, but it tasted even better. Zero complaints from anyone and we finished very satisfied. Though a little more expensive than your normal chain restaurant, it is not overpriced for the quality of food and ambience. The total for us, five adults, was under $100. I went in with very low expectations regarding the prime rib, because so many restaurants in Cincinnati Just destroy this beautiful cut of meat. I am ecstatic to report that this was unquestionably the best prime rib that I have ever had in many years. Wonderfully seasoned, and served rare the way I love it. The meat was very flavorful, tender and juicy. The au jus and creamed horseradish were delicious accompaniments. And the mashed potatoes were incredible. We had such an amazing waitress when we came here. She gave us a free dessert in account of it being my friend's birthday and then gave us a free carrot cake slice when she heard us mention we wanted to try it as well! She was fantastic! We have gone to Redlands / J Austin's for years for the families Birthdays and Anniversaries but after this past time we will be finding somewhere else to go. There are very few restaurants that remember that it is the service AND quality of food. My wife, whose birthday it was and the reason why we all went there got the Bayou pasta and wow what a difference, 2 medium shrimp and no pieces of crab but plenty of pulverized crab. Lots and lots of peppers but worth 20.00 no. Oh and then we come to my sons and mine Prime rib. We have both told people, and I mean a lot of people, about this meal. I can honestly say that I have been to your establishment at least 10 times over the years and have NEVER been disappointed.... until this past Sunday. First off this used to be a choice of 2 sizes well that is now gone. So for 36.00 you get an unknown size, my guess is about 10 ounces but this also includes a bone and about 2 ounces, at least, of bad fat, which I have never had before. My son's was about the same. My daughters and my son's girlfriend was very good. My daughters boyfriends New York strip was horrible and it was 40.00. More than half of this piece of steak was returned because of fat and gristle. I had a 15.00 dollar drink and it was good except I really liked the smoked one you used to have. My daughters boyfriend ordered a 40 to 50 dollar bottle of champagne and it was lack luster. I'm sorry for this review but I hope you take this and re-evaluate your choices of what you have done to the quality of the food you put out. One last thing, servers are very important and let me just say, you were not busy at 5:30 PM on a Sunday so me having to go up to the greeters to ask to have them find our server so we could get steak sauce, salt and pepper was very disappointing. The chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge was to die for. Just make sure you're sharing or come hungry & only for dessert. The BAD: The food was not good. I got the filet & he had the NY strip -- both cooked medium. Mine was charred on the outside & barely cooked on the inside. His was charred throughout. I sent mine back & it came out more like medium well. We both ordered Cabernet, which was served cold. I may not be a wine connoisseur, but I know that red wine is served at room temperature. If I ever go back it'll be for the dessert. I'd rather spend my money on a good steak elsewhere. read more

I've been to this restaurant a few times in the past - the food is always good and the service has always been fine, but nothing to write home about. My boyfriend and I went back again recently for an early birthday dinner with our families - we had a party of nine and went in on a weeknight when the restaurant was busy, but not packed. I don't know if our waiter was new, or what, but he seemed frazzled and didn't really have it together. He provided water for half the table, and seemed in no rush to stop by and check on us throughout the meal - he was just incredibly inattentive. My stepfather ordered a glass of wine, but it hadn't arrived after about ten minutes. Finally, the waiter came over and said they *might* be out of it. Another employee - I think she may have been a manager - came over and explained that they paid for the case of wine, but the distributor hadn't actually delivered it. I understand wanting to be upfront with your customers, but it was a tad unprofessional. My stepfather picked out another glass of wine - which I think really should have been comped, but wasn't. At the end of the meal, my boyfriend had to order coffee twice - the waiter brought out coffee for everyone except for him, and the waiter acted like he hadn't ordered it in the first place. Don't get me wrong - the food was good. I had a Caesar salad, ahi tuna steak and mashed potatoes that were all delicious. The bad service just ruined it. In all honesty, it felt like the waiter knew he was guaranteed an 18% tip (since we were such a large party), so he didn't feel like he needed to make an effort. Today is the first time I ever set foot in one of these restaurants. I had lunch there with my boyfriend. We were half way thru a 7 hour drive, so we were wearing comfortable clothes(jeans and a tshirt. ) going in even for lunch we felt underdressed. But, the service was pretty good. The food was even better. Looking at the menu, the prices seem pretty high for a lunch menu. But the portion sizes and quality of the food reflected well on the price. The only thing that bothered us about our visit was that it was SOOO loud. The restaurant was full but even with that in mind it was hard to carry on a conversation. The place could benefit from having some fabric curtains or insulation on the bare metal parts of the ceiling, just to curb some of the noise. I would definitely return and would love to try dinner there. If you're looking for a quiet meal I would try to hit it at slower hours. The food is worth every penny! I read more

I don't know what they do to the vegetables. Take them to the spa for massages? Give them pep talks and cheer them as they grow? Feed them cookies and pie? It's just a salad, I know. But it isn't just any salad, it's the salad dreams are made of. Do try it with the cilantro vinegarette and invite your mother so she can finally take solace that you are eating all of your vegetables. If this is happening, what else is.? Since one of our party also had serious egg allergies this is clearly unacceptable. While we eventyally had an apology from the manager, after them observing me writing a yelp review, I'm not sure this would've happened otherwise. We were literally about to pay our bill and walk out when he came by. Our waitress also seemed to not care about us, and really didn't exhibit the excellence that I am used to from J Alexanders. After a really rough day, a friend and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at J Alexander's. We were dressed in jeans and hoodies, but I looked on the website and didn't see anything about a dress code. So off we went. We walked in the door and the hostess just looked at us. My friend had to tell her we were there to eat. She then sat us in the section furthest off the floor, next to the table where all of the workers on break seemed to be eating/chatting. It was 445pm and there was only one other person dining. Our waiter was fantastic, refilling our drinks whenever they got even slightly low. Now onto the food. My friend and I both ordered the rotisserie chicken and smashed potatoes. Absolutely delicious. My only slight gripe was that there were a lot of potato skins in my smashed potatoes (I literally pulled almost a whole potato skin out from them) and that they were only slightly warm (not piping hot). I had to ask to order, ask for another drink, ask for the desert menu, ask for my check. I would completely understand of it were a busy Saturday night at 7:30 but that was not the case. The food was fine chicken and mashed potatoes, potatoes were cold but it wasn't worth the hassle to send back.
