Today is the first time I ever set foot in one of these restaurants. I had lunch there with my boyfriend. We were half way thru a 7 hour drive, so we were wearing comfortable clothes(jeans and a tshirt. ) going in even for lunch we felt underdressed. But, the service was pretty good. The food was even better. Looking at the menu, the prices seem pretty high for a lunch menu. But the portion sizes and quality of the food reflected well on the price. The only thing that bothered us about our visit was that it was SOOO loud. The restaurant was full but even with that in mind it was hard to carry on a conversation. The place could benefit from having some fabric curtains or insulation on the bare metal parts of the ceiling, just to curb some of the noise. So, technically this is a steak place, right? Well, I have never had a steak there; I haven't had steak in 16 years. BUT-they have this salad. It's called...are you ready? The Alex salad. I don't know what they do to the vegetables. Take them to the spa for massages? Give them pep talks and cheer them as they grow? Feed them cookies and pie? It's just a salad, I know. But it isn't just any salad, it's the salad dreams are made of. Do try it with the cilantro vinegarette and invite your mother so she can finally take solace that you are eating all of your vegetables. After a really rough day, a friend and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner at J Alexander's. We were dressed in jeans and hoodies, but I looked on the website and didn't see anything about a dress code. So off we went. We walked in the door and the hostess just looked at us. My friend had to tell her we were there to eat. She then sat us in the section furthest off the floor, next to the table where all of the workers on break seemed to be eating/chatting. It was 445pm and there was only one other person dining. Our waiter was fantastic, refilling our drinks whenever they got even slightly low. Now onto the food. My friend and I both ordered the rotisserie chicken and smashed potatoes. Absolutely delicious. My only slight gripe was that there were a lot of potato skins in my smashed potatoes (I literally pulled almost a whole potato skin out from them) and that they were only slightly warm (not piping hot). This used to be one of my favorite places. I haven't been since they added Redlands to the name. Tonight's dining experience was very disappointing. We ordered a wine and a beer, it took quite awhile but their bar was very busy so we overlooked it. No one offered us water. When the server dropped off our salad and asked if we needed anything else, I asked for water, she said OK and never returned. A different server dropped off our dinners, asked if we needed anything else, again we asked for water, she said ok and again, never returned. Finally halfway through dinner our waiter asked how is dinner, we asked for water and he brought 1 glass for 2 of us I guess to share. Expensive steak comes with a starch only. Veggie or salad is ala cart. Pricy for the level of service we received. We won't be back :( read more

I used to love this place and planned many group lunch and dinner outings here. But since it has become "the redlands grill" things have really changed. The food is more expensive and the quality is not what it used to be. The portions are much smaller and presented in a less attractive manner. I asked for a club soda (they have a full bar) and it used to be served it in a nice tall glass. Instead my waiter brought me a tiny one serving bottle for $3.00. Ridiculous!!!! If you'd like to dine in a restaurant where once your food is delivered you never see your waitstaff again this is your place! Nothing like ordering your meal...the prime rib medium plus but to get it cold and medium rare and more importantly when you bring that to the staff attention the best thing they could do was deliver the food after the rest of your guests have finished their meal with a complementary EYE roll and pursed lips. My SO and I came here one night just because we didn't want to go too far but we wanted to make it a somewhat special outing for our date night. Based off of yelper's top reviews we went with the Salmon dip for appetizer then...Maui Steak and Steak n' Fries...followed by the infamous carrot cake. The ambiance was great. I felt immediately comfortable and I thought to myself I'd like to come here again. Everything from reserving a seat to walking in to a friendly host was pretty much pleasant. The only hitch? The food was...mediocre at best... We came in hungry and usually it means it takes very little to impress me. I thought to myself I'll go with the steak that comes with fries because what the hey I'm bound to like at least half the dish... But oh boy...I worked hard to get through the steak. My SO also had a hard time eating through the fat in his steak. For such great service and ambience the food really needs another bump up for it to be worth the second visit. Went there for a late lunch/early dinner.... Service was great. Food was really good. I enjoyed it.... And that's saying something because steaks don't usually impress me all that much. We went here on our first date 5 + yrs ago so were super excited to go back and have a nice dinner out. We were before the dinner rush and we both ordered the crab cakes, both were luke warm at best. I pressed on but my partner asked for them to re-heat. Its a pretty expensive restaurant, so one would assume they would remake them as a prideful chef would. But no they stuck the entire plate, including fries, under a broiler, and they were no more cooked than before just a little browned on top, and the fries became potato sticks. It was obvious we weren't pleased but no manager or staff seemed interested in if it was corrected, so we will never be back. Our experience here was a bit odd. Inside decor and atmosphere seems very nice and a little more upscale, which would make one expect great customer service. We were seated for 15 minutes without a server before advising the hostess of our situation. The server eventually showed up, but had this attitude like we were inconveniencing her. After taking our drink orders, another server, who was great by the way, introduced herself as our new server. I don't know if the other girl had a bad day or what...just wasn't a pleasant experience. Arrived with the gf around 8pm on a Wednesday night and we were seated right away. We turned down some tempting appetizers and went with a couple martinis to get the night started. She had the Pomegranate and it went down with a smooth tanginess. I went with their version of a Cosmo and while it was well portioned and mixed, it wasn't any better than a corner bar's version of the drink. Bonus points for including sidecars with the martinis, though! I was eager to try the veggie burger, which has been called the best money can buy. While I'm not sure I'd go that far, it was certainly way above average for this level of dining, with a nice mix of rice and beans but went just a tad over what I'd prefer on the onion flavor (although that's more a personal taste thing than a measure of quality). The texture was perfect: soft and crumbly. I was very tempted by the Rattlesnake Pasta and would have gone that route had I not been planning on the veggie burger. When I return I'll be very torn betwen these two! The gf went with the Steak & Fries. The meat was well seasoned and flavorful but was cooked just a bit over the requested medium. The towers of fries on both our plates were fantastic, displaying appealing thinness that echoes McDonald's without the faint meat flavors (no beef tallow here!). Service was attentive but not quite warm, but then we weren't very demanding so perhaps we were giving off a "leave us alone" vibe. This was my first experience with J. Alexander's and it won't be my last. That said, the prices on the steak seem a tad high for the quality (the $9 veggie burger is about as good as it gets for that price, though). read more

I had been to J. Alexander's in past years in both Cincinnati and Columbus and really enjoyed my meal for the most part each time. After this last experience at the one in Rookwood, I'm not sure if I want to go back. Several people in my party were dissatisfied with the food. And its not like none of us had been there before. It had been a while since my best friend and I had been there and we both noticed some changes on the menu, and when we got our food we noticed changes in the portion size and quality of the food. I ended up having to send my steak back because it was incredibly fatty/gristly. Not marbled, but fatty and gristly. My friend did not send her food back, she simply didn't finish it. Not everyone in our group was dissatisfied with their food though and our server did a good job. We were there celebrating mine and my mom's birthday's and the servers brought us several desserts (on the house) to share with our group. I thought that was really nice and maybe they did that to make up for the all the problems we had with our food. At this point, I am not sure if I will ever go back. This experience was so mediocre that there is really no reason to run back. If I want to go to a steakhouse again, I'm going to try some other places. I dined there for the first time on Wed, Dec 23rd. I won a $50 gift certificate from my work (Seasons 52), for knowing my menu at a pre shift test. I decided to take my mom there for her birthday. I made a reservation online with OpenTable and included the birthday info in the reservation. First of all, this place is NICE! The decor of the restaurant feels upscale, the servers wear long aprons with dress shirts and tie, and they present themselves as a five star type of dining. My experience there was pretty friggin good! They acknowledged my moms birthday as soon as we got to the host stand to check in. We were seated and you can tell on the way to the table they present an upscale type of dining with their execution. We were greeted by, what I assumed, was a server assistant. She took our drink order and then we were approached by our server. He explained the daily special deal, really quickly I might add, and then vanished. My mom was like...what did he just say? Being a server, I know the deal, and caught what he was doing, but it was confusing if I wasn't on par with the industry. We got our drinks and we put an app order in. The smoked salmon dip app was amazing! Good flavor and my mom, who doesn't like salmon really liked it. We then split a Caesar salad and my mom ordered the steak tacos and I got the seafood pasta special. Her tacos were awesome! The steak had a lot of flavor and there were 3 nice size tacos. My seafood special was good, with scallops, crab, and shrimp and an Alfredo style sauce with angel hair pasta. We didn't finish it all and everything was boxed behind the scenes. We were offered dessert, but declined since we were stuffed. We cashed out pretty quickly and went on our way. One thing I was disappointed with was that our server never acknowledged my moms birthday. I don't know it they don't do anything special, like free piece of cake or whatever, but he never said anything about it. I work across the street and if it's someone's birthday we buy their dessert and take a picture with our camera, then print out a souvenir copy for them to take home. It's a really nice touch, and I don't expect every place to do that, but I would expect something. All in all I really like this place. Their food is outstanding, their service is super attentive, and their ambience is upscale. I think dining here for dinner, whether it be a date or special occasion, would be ideal. I just don't think I would come here all the time. Lunch prices aren't a big difference from dinner, and if I'm paying that kind of money, I expect my server to acknowledge something like a birthday. They don't need to give me anything free, but a little special attention would be nice. All in all, a great experience! I will def be back for special occasions if I'm not wanting to spend money for the Precinct or a place like Nicola's. I guess we, at Seasons 52, can be said for the same things though. Good job J. So I don't know where to start so ill just start here. I've been ordering from here regularly for the last two/ three years. Due to covid, I noticed some changes! I didn't appreciate the charge for you getting your food to go but I love the food. But let's get to these past experiences I've had the last three times. So I placed my order to go went to the restaurant to pick it up. As I was going to check my bag the serve says oh you don't have to check everything is in there. So me trusting her I left ana disbt check the bag. Well after my 40 min drive home and getting in expecting some great dinner. Long and behold half my order is missing. So I call to talk to Nate one of the managers and he sends me a gift certificate. So a couple of weeks later I go back to the restaurant place for pickup. I'm a creature of habit so I get the same order this time it's correct, as well I did check it at the bar! As I'm checking out the waitress asks me am I tipping. I thought to myself wow that rude so now you get no tip. Remind you this is a to-go order! So let's get to this last and final visit. So I made a reservation to ensure that I'm going to have an amazing time. Show up to the restaurant and see the bar have a booth I opt out of the dinner table to sit at the booth by the bar. Guess who the waitress is Ms.WheremyTip (this is what we're calling her). I ask for cucumbers and lemon! I waited while she showed a guest a seat outside, which she uses her hand to clean the table. She then opens the door with her hand and uses this same hand that hasn't been cleaned to get my lemon and cucumbers with. So she brings it to the table I'm not using those and I'm like I just want to have a good experience dining. I did order salmon dip and it was brought out with the best of the fruit flies this place had to offer. So of course I'm not happy because I don't like sending anything back so I did and gotten a new order of dip. So I wanted a drink and I ask the other bartender to make it and I guess Ms.Wheremtip figures it out and just leaves me with the other bartender for the remainder of my visit. Now, this lady can make a drink, but she drops the ball as well. So I tell her hey I'm going to place a to-go order as well so when I order my second drink you can place the order then. Just bring me my baked potato. Remind you I order it will everything on the side. It's coming out with everything on it. So now this has to be a remake. So as I'm sipping my drink here comes my to-go order. Remind you I'm still on my first drink. So she takes the food and places it in the warmer. When my new potato comes here another serving coming to the table so instead of her just waiting she proceeds to move my cell phone and my masks. Yuk, you don't know me and I don't know you. I'm like hold on maam we don't even know each other and you're touching my things. So they laugh it off and I'm like omg what's next. Well now we're at the finale! So after this mess I go to pay and pull out the gift certificate for $35.00 from the incident with half my order being messed up. So I place that to the right and place my card to the left. The server then takes it and reminds you that people are still in the restaurant turns around and say loudly to me in front is my guest. Your bill is $100 and this gift certificate is only $35. Was I embraced Yes, u did tell her I was aware. That's why I place the card to the left in the card holds. She then looks like wow I can't believe I did this and I have the same expression on my face. Now everyone in the area I'm in is looking at me. Which I still tip her at 20%! I can't believe this happen to me. I'm going to miss this place. So hopes this review helps someone and beware of taking out‼ read more

Hey, an upscale restaurant in a mid range block. The decor is nice, however, their bar is top notch, their martini selection, while pricey, includes a "refill" i have not eaten here, so my review is based on drink selection and prices in relation to other places. good drinks, slightly overprices, but a good place for a date... ya dig? read more

I started coming here in high school for dinners with my friends and haven't really stopped since. It's so easy and convenient, and good for big groups. Service is always pleasant. I am secretly 5 years old so all I get are their chicken fingers, but even those are AWESOME. And if you come, please save room for dessert and order their carrot cake. Two friends and I went before a play at the Playhouse. We have always liked this place. I had the Steak Maui, a marinated ribeye which was great. The smashed potatoes with it were nothing to yelp about. They both had the special which was a steak kabob. They both thought it was not hot when it arrived so they sent it back, but they felt the taste was great! The staff was very polite, warmed it up and brought it back with apologies. The manager stopped by to make sure it was right. We appreciated that. Its a good place, good service. A little pricey but for a steak house it was what we expected. read more

Redlands is a good Restaurant. You get good service (sometimes a bit bit much asking and interruptions 'if everything is ok) and good food. The menu does not change much, so you know what you'll order if you have come here before. There's no beer on draft. Parking is good because it is in a shopping mall area; with the many restaurants near by a bit crowded. Price is reasonable maybe a bit high. Overall I recommend the visit. read more
