I have been a patron of J Alexander's for some time and had many good experiences. For that reason I tried to contact through their website- which is mentioned here in some reviews. Unfortunately, no response. So I will share here that my last two visits were not satisfactory. The most recent was on December 2. We ordered 2 filets one medium well which was cut in 1/2 so "we can get the correct temperature". It was totally overcooked and dry more like an extra well hockey puck. The second was supposed to be medium. It was close and more towards rare but still dry and cold. The bernaise - cold. Baked potato- cold. We arrived starving after a basketball game and were in no mood to send it back and the waiter was no where to be found so we ate some and tossed the rest. Way to expensive for inedible food. The prior visit was a service issue. The waiter would not allow us to sub something like salmon for steak on a salad - which we had done 100 times before. I doubt I will be back any time soon. read more

Promptly seated on a rainy Monday evening. Bar was not busy but the restaurant was. Our server, Noah, was on the top of his game from start to finish. He was friendly, knowledgeable and knew when to stop by without being overbearing. Really wanted prime rib to celebrate my birthday. Since I do not indulge often, I wanted it to be above average and, it was. Many thanks to Yelper Marqus R. for steering me in the right direction. Started with an Old Fashion which came with a large cube as requested. A bit too much bitters but fine. Tried the app of the evening which was smoked salmon dip. Served with thin toasted bread. This place is one of my favorite places for lunch or dinner. Every server is friendly and very attentive. My favorite app are the grilled artichokes. I get them every time. I love the salads and they always have great specials. This place does get busy so except a wait if you go at prime dinner time. I would suggest-a reservation to avoid the long wait. This is one of my favorite restaurants for lunch and judging by the crowd today, I'm not the only one that feels that way. I had the Louie's Salad which has shrimp, fruit and an interesting dressing. It was great. My biz partner also had a salad (different one) and he thought it was outstanding as well. This is a downgrade review. Our last visit was 4 stars. Last night one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The only positive was the service which as excellent. The "steak N fries" was tasteless and the double thick Pork Chop came out under-cooked. The big negative was that the noise level was so loud that we just had to leave without coffee or dessert. I was in the mood for a nice steak. We have noticed J Alexander on our way to Mario's Osteria many times at their Boca location. We made a reservation for two people at 8:30 and we were promptly seated. I ordered the filet mignon with béarnaise sauce medium rare, it was served with a baked potato. Hubby ordered the ribs with mac and cheese and french fries. Everything was beautifully prepared, hot and tasty. We enjoyed our meal very much. I had been to J. Alexanders twice before but many years ago. I revisited for lunch with a friend recently. I felt the menu does not have a huge amount of options and it's pricey but the food was good and service excellent. We started with the grilled artichokes. Delicious! Friend got Alex's Salad with filet mignon, $29 and I got a cheeseburger which was a bit pricey for a basic burger at $19. We ended with carrot cake and cappuccinos. Carrot cake is to die for! Served warm with gooey icing. I would say the artichoke and cake were worth it but the food was basic for the price. read more

We came here for a date night while in town since the in laws were watching our daughter and I was craving prime rib!! We started with drinks. My husband got an IPA on draft and I got the spicy tequila drink. I like mine. Pretty strong. Then we got roasted artichoke and tuna and avocado bomb! The artichoke although never enough was flavorful and came with a garlic aioli. The tuna was a good size served with crispy tortilla chips!! Yummy! I got the prime rib with au jus and horseradish cream sauce and a loaded baked potatoe - perfectly cooked and huge. But I finished it. Husband got a sandwich with the same meat and fries. The service was very good and the ambiance was fine. We have eaten here often and have had very good meals mostly. The problem this time was the prime rib. It was recommended so my wife and I both ordered it. It was the worse piece of meat we both have ever gotten. We both were very disappointed. Both prime ribs were fatty, extremely chewy and had ligaments throughout. The flavor was also lacking. We felt we were given a poor quality item they knew was bad but were trying to get rid of. It was very poor quality all the way around. We should have sent it back but, went ahead and ate it. I would never order prime rib here again and I have reservations about ordering a steak also. After seeing Nancy M's review (with pictures) of her visit here, I couldn't resist coming to try their artichokes. I love artichokes. Thank you Nancy! The grilled artichoke appetizer was one of the best I've ever had. Two whole artichokes cut in half and char-grilled then topped with a bit of butter and salt. There was a dipping sauce served on the side, but frankly I never even used it. I took one half home just to save room for my sandwich. We came for lunch. The restaurant was quite busy and full. We sat at the bar where we found a couple open seats. They had a daily specials menu as well as a regular menu. In addition to my appetizer, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. It came with lettuce, tomato and onion. I didn't eat the bun the sandwich came on. I switched the side to the vegetable of the day: roasted Brussels sprouts. OMG. You have to get these. They were delicious. I had leftovers of both the chicken and the sprouts for a later meal. My husband chose their New York strip steak sandwich from the daily menu. The meat was cooked exactly as requested. It came with an aioli dip. It was very good, as well. He switched his fries to smashed potatoes. And liked those also. He took half home. Every month my friends and I meet at a restaurant and talk about all kinds of stuff. The flavor of the month was J. Alexander's restaurant. We really enjoyed our evening, we were eight and everything went smoothly. Our server was Jasmine and she did a great job taking great care of all of us, extremely efficient. I love a nice cold Guinness and I was surprised to see that they had some. I had the calamari and the French dip with fries. One of my friends had the Ahi tuna and he said that it was the best he ever had. In a nutshell, everyone enjoyed their experience at J.Alexander's!! To start we ordered Fried Calamari and Avocado bomb- great to share and delicious!! We then ordered steak frites - everything was good but I found the meat a little too fatty for my liking. This was my first time coming to J. Alexander In years! I was pleasantly surprised. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I ordered the baby back ribs, which came with shoestring fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was perfect because it still had a crunch and wasn't drowning in dressing. My mom ordered the chicken salad, which she loved. My dad ordered the macadamia crusted cod, which was their special for the day. He said it was a a tad too salty, but still tasted really good with the broccoli and couscous. read more

We are regulars and we always order salads, seafood, chicken etc. My salad with salmon was so tiny compared to the chicken salad of our family member. Like tiny. It's never been like that for me. Manager came over and said, oops. Not ok for the price. Price not a problem, but the inconsistency is a problem. For the salads at the table, we never got dressing until we asked, bbq was forgotten repeatedly for one meal and we had to continue water refills, etc. Not a good experience tonight. It's been years since I'd had a Hyde Park chicken sandwich- still tastes great! Swapped the fries (those scrumptious shoestrings) for a house salad - resolution in-tact - the champagne vinaigrette is worthy of taking home; So light and fresh tasting, you are able to taste the salad ingredients, but still know there's something extra elevating the flavors. Can't say enough about how impressive the Avocado Bomb appetizer was. It looked and tasted like art. And it paired nicely with the Cucumber Martini. J. Alexander's is a beautiful restaurant. When you walk in you'll see a large bar in the center with a television tuned on to sports. On both sides of the bar, after a few steps up, are large rooms with tables and booths. Clyde and I wanted to eat at a restaurant we hadn't been to in awhile. We had been to J Alexander's a few times, but that was over a year ago. J Alexander's is centrally located in Boca Raton. It's in a strip mall with other restaurants, shops, and Whole Foods. We were led to a comfortable booth in the room to the left side of the bar. Our server was very nice. She described several items on the menu. I told her we were hungry and asked if they had bread. She brought a plate with several slices of crusty bread and butter. I ordered the French dip sandwich. It came with one side. I ordered smashed potatoes. Clyde has the rib eye steak with smashed potatoes. The food was delicious. Our server had told me that the French dip was very popular. I can see why. Sliced prime rib on a baguette with au jus sauce and creamy horseradish. The prime rib was tender, lean, and delicious. The serving of smashed potatoes was very good. I enjoyed my meal. Clyde said his steak and potatoes were delicious. For drinks I had ice tea. No surprise that Clyde had a few beers. The restaurant was attractive and appeared to be very clean.
