Promptly seated on a rainy Monday evening. Bar was not busy but the restaurant was. Our server, Noah, was on the top of his game from start to finish. He was friendly, knowledgeable and knew when to stop by without being overbearing. Really wanted prime rib to celebrate my birthday. I love the salads and they always have great specials. This place does get busy so except a wait if you go at prime dinner time. I would suggest-a reservation to avoid the long wait. The service was very good and the ambiance was fine. We have eaten here often and have had very good meals mostly. The problem this time was the prime rib. It was recommended so my wife and I both ordered it. It was the worse piece of meat we both have ever gotten. We both were very disappointed. Both prime ribs were fatty, extremely chewy and had ligaments throughout. The flavor was also lacking. We felt we were given a poor quality item they knew was bad but were trying to get rid of. It was very poor quality all the way around. We should have sent it back but, went ahead and ate it. I would never order prime rib here again and I have reservations about ordering a steak also. Sunday night, family dinner, looking for a winner, and served up a dud at J.Alexander's. We usually have luck here and great service. This time with Jennifer at the helm it was lackluster from the start. Wifey asked about the salmon and was described as grilled, with spices and butter. Then a complete description of three other fish dishes. I thought this was a sign of the waitress telling us not to order it. I pondered the menu. Wife went steak, and I was back at salmon. I asked if I misunderstood her, and Jennifer told us the salmon was one of her favorites. Confused I asked about the spices. Three times I was told "spices" so I asked how many spices Jennifer could name on it. The answer was that she just wasn't a very descriptive person. I ordered it anyway. To her credit she came back with a report cayenne pepper, salt, butter and garlic. Salmon was good. Very bland but cooked perfectly. Had rice on the side that saw several forks. I'd get it again in the end. Wifey liked the filet, but said that too was bland. She loved the baked potato. Neither of my kids liked the chicken tenders. I thought they were better than most places. Waitress was attentive the rest of the meal. Restaurant was quiet when we arrived but bustling when we left, and we were never rushed. Got the carrot cake to go, and was tasty! I had been to J. Alexanders twice before but many years ago. I revisited for lunch with a friend recently. I felt the menu does not have a huge amount of options and it's pricey but the food was good and service excellent. We started with the grilled artichokes. Delicious! Friend got Alex's Salad with filet mignon, $29 and I got a cheeseburger which was a bit pricey for a basic burger at $19. We ended with carrot cake and cappuccinos. Carrot cake is to die for! This is a downgrade review. Our last visit was 4 stars. Last night one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. The only positive was the service which as excellent. The "steak N fries" was tasteless and the double thick Pork Chop came out under-cooked. The big negative was that the noise level was so loud that we just had to leave without coffee or dessert. The artichoke although never enough was flavorful and came with a garlic aioli. The tuna was a good size served with crispy tortilla chips!! Yummy! We are regulars and we always order salads, seafood, chicken etc. My salad with salmon was so tiny compared to the chicken salad of our family member. Like tiny. It's never been like that for me. Manager came over and said, oops. Not ok for the price. Price not a problem, but the inconsistency is a problem. For the salads at the table, we never got dressing until we asked, bbq was forgotten repeatedly for one meal and we had to continue water refills, etc. Not a good experience tonight. After seeing Nancy M's review (with pictures) of her visit here, I couldn't resist coming to try their artichokes. I love artichokes. Thank you Nancy! The grilled artichoke appetizer was one of the best I've ever had. Two whole artichokes cut in half and char-grilled then topped with a bit of butter and salt. There was a dipping sauce served on the side, but frankly I never even used it. I took one half home just to save room for my sandwich. We came for lunch. The restaurant was quite busy and full. We sat at the bar where we found a couple open seats. They had a daily specials menu as well as a regular menu. In addition to my appetizer, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. It came with lettuce, tomato and onion. I didn't eat the bun the sandwich came on. I switched the side to the vegetable of the day: roasted Brussels sprouts. OMG. You have to get these. They were delicious. I had leftovers of both the chicken and the sprouts for a later meal. My husband chose their New York strip steak sandwich from the daily menu. The meat was cooked exactly as requested. It came with an aioli dip. It was very good, as well. He switched his fries to smashed potatoes. And liked those also. He took half home. Every month my friends and I meet at a restaurant and talk about all kinds of stuff. The flavor of the month was J. Alexander's restaurant. We really enjoyed our evening, we were eight and everything went smoothly. Our server was Jasmine and she did a great job taking great care of all of us, extremely efficient. I love a nice cold Guinness and I was surprised to see that they had some. I had the calamari and the French dip with fries. This was my first time coming to J. Alexander In years! I was pleasantly surprised. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I ordered the baby back ribs, which came with shoestring fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was perfect because it still had a crunch and wasn't drowning in dressing. My mom ordered the chicken salad, which she loved. My dad ordered the macadamia crusted cod, which was their special for the day. He said it was a a tad too salty, but still tasted really good with the broccoli and couscous. read more

We have been there for dinner several times and always enjoyed the artichokes and ribs. Our sides are usually Cole slaw and fries. My husband wasn't feeling well last night but we still wanted to enjoy their food. We ordered from delivery dudes and were extremely disappointed. The portion sizes were not even close to what they serve in the restaurant. The artichokes were the smallest I have ever been served and one wasn't even fully cooked and tough. The ribs were not full racks and the fries were so salty we couldn't eat them. We will never order delivery from there again. Swapped the fries (those scrumptious shoestrings) for a house salad - resolution in-tact - the champagne vinaigrette is worthy of taking home; So light and fresh tasting, you are able to taste the salad ingredients, but still know there's something extra elevating the flavors. We were a few minutes late for our reservation but we were still seated within 10 minutes of arriving. Our server James was great. He was very nice and didn't rush us to make decisions, gave good suggestions for food and drinks, plus he was always accessible but not overbearing. We shared a Ceasar salad for an appetizer. I got the Ribeye Steak and my wife got the New York Strip. The NY Strip was perfect, they top it with butter once it comes out. My Ribeye steak was overcooked, but they happily and quickly made me another to my satisfaction. The kitchen manager even brought it out to be sure I was happy with it. First Class service ! BTW my suggestion is to go with the NY Strip. The Ribeye is marinated and comes with a glaze that I wasn't crazy about but maybe it's for you. Mashed potato's were good and the Mac and cheese is a favorite side, for good reason, thumbs up on that. Even tried the Key Lime Pie and the Chocolate Cake with ice cream for dessert. J. Alexander's is a beautiful restaurant. When you walk in you'll see a large bar in the center with a television tuned on to sports. On both sides of the bar, after a few steps up, are large rooms with tables and booths. Clyde and I wanted to eat at a restaurant we hadn't been to in awhile. We had been to J Alexander's a few times, but that was over a year ago. J Alexander's is centrally located in Boca Raton. It's in a strip mall with other restaurants, shops, and Whole Foods. We were led to a comfortable booth in the room to the left side of the bar. Our server was very nice. She described several items on the menu. I told her we were hungry and asked if they had bread. She brought a plate with several slices of crusty bread and butter. I ordered the French dip sandwich. It came with one side. I ordered smashed potatoes. Clyde has the rib eye steak with smashed potatoes. The food was delicious. Our server had told me that the French dip was very popular. I can see why. Sliced prime rib on a baguette with au jus sauce and creamy horseradish. The prime rib was tender, lean, and delicious. The serving of smashed potatoes was very good. I enjoyed my meal. Clyde said his steak and potatoes were delicious. For drinks I had ice tea. No surprise that Clyde had a few beers. The restaurant was attractive and appeared to be very clean. Tried their curbside pickup option recently and it was rather disappointing. Of all the curbside pickups that we've done from surrounding restaurants (Houston's, Capital Grille, Seasons 52), this was the worst. First of all, there are no clear directions in the front of the restaurant. So it's confusing as to where the pickup location is or what number to call. Other restaurants have big banners with the phone number out front. Eventually when we found the pickup spot, it's way in the back near the dumpsters. Not the ideal place to be waiting for your food. You get views of employees smoking and the trash bins. The people who answer the phone when you call to confirm that you're here for pickup also aren't well trained for curbside orders. They asked for the last name in the order about 3 times. And finally when someone did come out to the car she was like "Oh, did you call?!" Uh... yes? Lastly, it took forever to get the food. We were a few minutes late for. 5:45pm pickup, and you'd think that the extra time would have meant it would surely be ready, yet it still took 20 minutes waiting in the car to get them to come out with the food. So while the food here is good, if you want a smooth curbside pickup experience, look elsewhere. read more
