I can't believe I have not reviewed this restaurant! I've had both lunch & dinner here on several occasions & I loved just about everything I have tried. The service has always been great & I have never sent any of my dishes back. They are always busy, lunch or dinner, trust me you will be waiting. However, they started taking reservations about a year or so ago, which I couldn't be happier about. Sometimes even with a reservation you'll wait for a few minutes, but nothing crazy & not a big deal. My favorite thing on the menu is the delicious black bean soup; unfortunately they only serve this on Thursday. It's okay because there are other things on the menu that are really good. I enjoy their salads & I highly recommend the champagne vianagrete. The spinach dip is very good & so are the burgers. I had the fish tacos a while ago & they were ok, & I did find the deviled eggs to be a bit too sweet for me. I have not tried any of the steaks; although my dining companions have always loved them. Wait, that's not entirely true~I did have a bite of my dates steak & it was pretty good. And now that I'm thinking about it, I have also had a bite of my friends prime rib & I liked that too. During the day the restaurant gets a lot of business people who are grabbing a quick lunch or having a business meeting. The dining room is well lit during the day & they dim the lights at night which creates a more sophisticated ambiance, which I love. Sitting in the bar is great because they have about five booths & also the full menu is available. Meeting someone after work for cocktails or a meet & greet? Start at the bar & if the mood strikes order an appetizer or even stay for dinner. You won't feel rushed. There is no happy hour at J. Alexander's, but the two restaurants next to them (Mario's & PF Chang's) offer daily happy hours if that is what you are looking for. As for me, I really enjoy J. Alexander's. This restaurant is perfect for a nice dinner with friends & it's a great date night spot too. read more

J Alexander's has always been a very decent chain restaurant. But Carl (Karl) the the GM is what makes this place worth writing about. He saw my wife and I waiting for a table and sent the bartender over to make sure we had cocktails. Our waitress was fine but it was Carl who came over to see if we needed another drink or condiments. We really enjoyed the salmon and ribs. If your on a high-salt diet then this is the place for you. Appetizers and soups have more salt than the Dead Sea. Artichoke appetizer was all leaves and little heart. Hamburgers look lifeless (served on a McDonalds style bun) and lack flavor. Tuna steak was not bad but served with nothing more than a side of soy sauce (yes, you guessed right, not the low salt one). The orzo wild rice side was actually the hit of the meal. read more

In the last ten years we have eaten many meals at J Alexander's. Whatever we have ordered, each dish has been excellent, well-prepared and well-presented - and reasonably priced! Last night, I ordered the cheeseburger and my wife ordered the tuna burger. She substituted superb cauliflower for the orzo rice that normally comes with the tuna. Although the shoestring potato fries that came with my cheeseburger, are excellent, I would have preferred the baked potato instead. Next time! My family and I came here on New Year's as we've always found this a reliable spot for a nice meal. We shared a Caesar salad. It was a bit on the smaller side compared to what I remember, but it was fresh and crisp. Their croutons are inedible though. I don't know why they're always so salty. My steak was cooked perfectly and it was an excellent cut. Tender, juicy, flavorful, with a nice char. My only complaint is that the butter atop the steak had completely slid off and was now beneath the fries, creating a soggy mess. Hardly a big deal. My brother sent his prime rib back because he said it was lukewarm and needed to be hotter. The manager returned it steaming hot. It looked like a great prime rib. I love J.Alexander especially for dinner . I had J.Alexander salad with chicken tenders, Mac & cheese and the avocado bomb. Salad is always amazing! The avocado bomb was as so fresh and the presentation was very cool . Mac and cheese wasnt good, tasted a little sour. Make a reservation for this location! I went here for dinner at 8 PM on a Saturday and thank goodness I had one. This place gets really packed for dinner but I can see why. J. Alexander's is classy but not super fancy. This is great for a dinner date or a family dinner. I've been to one other location, but this one is better than the one in Davie. I highly recommend their "not your average" Mac & cheese. This is a side, but you could eat this for a meal! It is quite filling. I also got the original cheeseburger (medium-well) with a side of fries - both were cooked to perfection! J. Alexander's is conveniently located around FAU and an outdoor mall with frozen yogurt and a Barnes and Nobles. This is a great place to hang out! read more

A few months ago we went to J Alexander's and had a disappointing experience with the food, but this time we had the same marvelous beef we had had on visits in prior years. The french dip had lovely rare tender thick sliced beef with a nice crunchy sandwich bun. The horseradish is creamy mild to the point of no taste and served on the side, but the au jus was well seasoned and nicely warm. The skinny fries are tasty but not always hot or crunchy. Mashed potatoes are delicious and fluffy. The carrot cake is served warm with a lovely cream cheese frosting. Service is always attentive, but generally slightly hectic due to the model has multiple people bringing food and drinks, making the relationship with the waiter a bit less intimate. I will go back for a nice traditional dining experience. read more

I've been a customer of Alexander's for over 10 years . This is over never going back . Very unhappy with the one in Boca . My Asian salad was horrible full on wonton crisp and no salad drenched in sauce . Asked for grilled shrimp on side salad they gave me cold nasty shrimp . Didn't eat salad and Asked medium burger my son got a rare burger . The steak was over cooked : they never picked up plates from appetizer we had . No refill on coke or water . She made some great recommendations and we enjoyed every single thing we got from the drink, appetizer all the way to the main course. We have tried to get a reservation here for a few months now, but always wait until the last minute and have no luck. Tonight was the night. We went with our 8 year old, who usually sticks to pasta and butter or Mac and cheese- but he devoured the Emerald Coast Shrimp almost all by himself! He got a cheese burger, which initially came out without cheese. Our wonderful waitress, Haley, was quick to fix this for us. She went above and beyond the whole night. My first time eating at this establishment. First impression, a few of the girls at the host desk don't seem to be happy or too welcoming. When being seated, I asked the girl to switch the booth they were seating me at, she speaks into her microphone and expresses to her coworker 'they don't want to sit here' . as if we were bothering her. Let's keep in mind, it was 4pm on a Saturday and the section they were seating me in was not full in any way. She then proceeds to telL me she can't sit me elsewhere because they don't have servers .. Her attitude and acting as if I was bothering her was a total turn off... thankfully, the server made up of for the hosts poor attitude, but your hosts should realize that they are the first impression your guests get and they should at the very least not act as if they are bothered by a guest (spending quiet a bit of money) making a relatively simple request. Absolutely the best prime rib in Boca Raton. Wonderful bar, nice blended crowd drawn by a consistently professional kitchen. Many of the servers are students at FAU, so lots of smiles and effort to make your meal enjoyable. I have only one suggestion. Add a unique bread like fresh hot popovers to the menu. 6 for 8.95 with honey. Their salads are awesome. Artichokes rule. read more

Had dinner last night. From the hostess, to the server, the ambiance of the room and the quality of the food this is one of the best in Boca. Getting used to be disappointed and accepting mediocrity when we go out J Alexander did not disappoint in any way. We plan to come back here often. We made reservations ahead of time since we planned on dining on Fathers Day. When we arrived, we waited at the bar and had a drink since we had to wait 20 minutes for our table to finish- no fault of the restaurant. At the bar we had the Espresso Martini and the Flor de Lis Martini, both were meh. Once seated we were able to get appetizers in- the grilled artichokes were only ok. I read in an earlier review how great they were but not so much in my opinion. The Tuna Stack was excellent, would order again for sure. From there it just got better! I had the filet mignon, OMG, excellent, probably one of the best I have ever had. Perfect temp and a dab of butter on top, I will be dreaming of this entree. Husband and friend both had the prime rib, I did not hear a word from either and their plates were clean. My other friend had the mahi mahi which she said was just good. Kids had ice cream for dessert with came in really big bowls. We all left happy and full. We will be back soon. read more

This place is very nice. I found that although it is a higher end restaurant/steakhouse you dont need to get dressed up. A lot of people were in regular everyday clothes. The food and service is very good here. I had a burger cause I just was not in the mood for a steak and it was delicious. My husband and dad had the filet mignon which they said was very good. My grandfather had the baby back ribs and he enjoyed then down to the bone. Everyone enjoyed and I would definitely recommend. They do have some chicken and fish options and a veggie burger for the vegans. Warm sour Dough bread before your meal is also sooo good. I think you have to request it. Sadly, we are originally from Broward and couldn't wait to try this location after moving to Palm Beach. We frequented the Plantation location and never ONCE had an issue. Our issue was eating there so often that we became regulars! We even joined the wine club. Tonight, we made a reservation. We arrived an hour early but were seated at the reservation time - which is very understandable as the wait for walk in guests was 90 min. We ordered the deviled eggs (even though the server advised against it) and I understood why. Kind of "eh". Not good or bad but holy pepper. Covered in black specs. Then the AHI TUNA SALAD. Well this was a winner! And the reason for the two stars. It was perfection. Drinks were good as well. We also ordered the AHI TUNA STEAK dinner. What a let down. It was cold as ice. We told the server and he didn't offer to heat it but just took it and tossed it. We thought it would come off the bill but it didn't. $29 dollars for uneaten food. Also ordered Mac n Cheese and very good but a $5 dish shouldn't be the best part of dinner. He offered a dessert but that was lackluster. Strange thing here how the food was so different... We should've known things were different at this Boca location when the server was comparing J Alexander steaks with Longhorn (a place not to our liking). Maybe one day we will head to PBG J Alexanders or back to Plantation, knowing we will have the experience we pay for. I wasn't sure what I wanted for dinner so I ended up here after work. Probably would go with a friend next time because the portions are pretty big. Wasn't sure what to order either, I had the spinach queso dip and the smaller appetizer portion of the chicken fingers (not exactly the healthiest meal lol) There was a lot of food and having had a late lunch, I didn't have a big appetite. Everything tasted great and the service was excellent (sat at the bar). I really loved the pico de gallo which came with the dip-probably one of the best I've ever tasted. Delicious food presented beautifully! Four Stars! Reservations are a must even though you still have to wait for a table at least you get ahead of the walk-Ins. I had to take one star off for not being able to keep it upscale. It is strange to go out to a nice restaurant that is supposed to have a dress code and see people walking in with very short Gym Shorts, oversized hoodie and Crocs on. Boca is supposed to have a high end feel to it and this place proves that theory wrong. I guess you can't turn business away because of the way they are dressed anymore. Food was excellent and service was too. We got the Avocado Bomb and it was terrific ! So Beautiful, we didn't want to eat it. Glad we did because it was awesome! My filet was cooked perfectly. Our waitress recommended I get the baked potato with the works. She was right. My husband got the Prime Rib and he loved it. You must try the Carrot cake!! One of the best around.
