Chips and bean dipping sauce
Juliette P.

On a warm spring day, a group of us headed over from the zoo to try out this restaurant. They had outdoor seating, a menu with gluten free options, and good reviews. Plus there was stuff that the 2 kids with us would eat. Our servers were lovely and helpful -- I had the Jocon (a flavorful chicken soup/stew), one person had a omelette, another had chicken, and an another wrap/sandwich. There were drinks -- coffee, hot chocolate, and something fruity. They also brought us corn chips and a bean dipping sauce to start -- YUM! I really liked the hot green sauce that accompanied the meal, too. This is a great find!

When I lived in the neighborhood, I always wondered about this place but never went. Looking for a soup fix for my cold recently I ordered takeout, and was delighted by my meal! I got the huevos rancheros and the Caldo Tlalpeno Rojo soup. The huevos had a unique sauce, balanced with beans and cheesy bits and chips that were still crispy even after a long delivery period. The soup was flavorful and hearty, the chicken pairing nicely with the cilantro, onions, and lime. Neither was spicy, but both felt filling and were really tasty. I've heard it's really cute to eat in, so I'd go back for that.

I'm giving them three stars because overall the food was tasty with flavors not commonly found in spanish cuisines, however, I was not happy with the service. I found them to be slow, no utensils provided nor napkins, we had to ask when meal already served. They forgot to give us complimentary chips and it wasn't until someone else sat next to us that they got the chips that they realized we never received it. instead of two sauces, we only received one and was told the 2nd one was coming. The food was pricey, ie the hot chocolate. 7.95 per cup plus an extra 75 cents for almond milk. The place was quaint but with all of the Guatemalan decorations I expected more typical Guatemalan dishes rather than a fusion of American foods. Because of the distance, the experience was not worth it for me and unfortunately I will continue to look for another authentic Guatemalan cuisine near me.

I only stopped by here to grab a coffee, so this rating is only for that. I went to the outside order window and was greeted promptly. It's a cool looking restaurant specializing in Guatemalan food and drinks with indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered a café mocha, which was their most expensive coffee drink since they use real Guatemalan chocolate. It was super tasty with the spices of Mexican style mocha and very rich.

Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the pork belly sandwich. The kimchi and sirarcha mayo added such an elevated flavor and perfectly balanced the juiciness of the pork. The fig, goat cheese chip dish was definitely a unique taste.

We rarely make it to Brooklyn- and when we do, there are so many great places to choose from it's hard to make a decision. Friends recommended this spot and we were pleasantly surprised. It was a vibrant, brightly lit and decorated restaurant. It's an interesting menu, blending a few types of cuisines. We started with a pitcher of sangria. Complimentary black bean dip and chips were delivered to the table. It was very tasty! We also ordered a garlicky cheese dip. I selected a cubano sandwich, which was served with a side salad. We also ordered a few soups- one with kimchee and the other with chicken. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food.

Great menu of items plus good music. Worth the schlep to Brooklyn! Yummy stews and flavors!!!

Nice restaurant with friendly service, the staff is the best part. Food is ok, the chicken style either in soup or main dish is definitely new to me. Vibes are so good, music and decor.

I really like this place and to be honest I thought it was an extension of el patron. I am so mad at myself that I haven't come sooner!! This place is an ok size good seating inside and out. I started with the crazy corn which was ok. The shrimp sliders I also really enjoyed alot. Especially with the house hot sauce on each table. We also got the cup of melted cheese with chorizo, quit satisfying. Both soups were delicious (according to my dining partners) and good size portions. All over a great place I will be back!!

My partner and I had heard of Ix from a neighbor who said this was "the good" Central American spot in the neighborhood (no shade at the other ones). Ix is nestled in a small complex of eateries right next to Lincoln Market, and offers coffee in the mornings. They are a cute little Guatemalan family joint that proudly displays their Mayan roots both in their food and on the walls and decor. The homey feel of the place is really evident and charming (sons and daughters as waitstaff). We have not both eaten here and taken out, and I would recommend either whole-heartedly. The traditional soups were recommended by the waiter so we got three of them -- all of them good and serving a different need (hearty, healthy, light). They were quite big and won't leave you hungry. Their desert plantains were also delicious, but don't mix up the mole's from Guatemala from Mexico, as they are different (we were told). All in all, a great place to eat in or take out, but on the Saturday night I came back for pick up, there was a live band playing sultry music in Spanish (language), which was pretty great. Check Ix out and show this family some love!

Every table has a placemat with crayons which is such a fun way to keep kids and adults entertained. The food was delicious and tasted fresh, living up to their messaging on sourcing local food. We ordered the egg katsu sandwich and the eggs rothko. The sandwich was very well made with a nice crisp panko crusting that didnt feel heavy on the oil, and yet still managed to have a light airy egg inside. The eggs rothko was buttery and flavorful but still managed to not feel too heavy. The broiled tomatos on the side were a nice touch to contrast the egg and toast from the main dish. Overall I enjoyed this place and would love to come back to try more dishes. The vibe was friendly and welcoming, making it the perfect weekend brunch spot.

If I were to do again, no sausage, I don't believe you need it for this sandwich. The chocolate milk is regular. - 4/5 Value (1-5): For what I got, I believe it is overpriced, even though it tasted really good, I don't know how many eggs are used to create the egg katsu, but $17 seems like a reach. There are other items on the menu that cost the same price but will make you feel more full. 3/5 Customer Service (1-5): The customer service was attentive and nice. 5/5
