Excellent soups. Prices are very fair. The wait time for food preparation isn't too long. Delivery is also usually pretty quick. We just ordered their frozen red sangria, and wow!! Great price and a strong drink. Highly suggest before going to the park, or after. read more

Every other week, I crave their Cubano sandwich. It's always consistent, and hits the right spot. The salad with their dressing is pretty tasty, too! The owner/chef is a great guy with an excellent taste in cooking!! I definitely recommend this place to everyone. read more

This place is preTTy amazing. I walked past this place a few time before going in and I always assumed it was just another Mexican restaurant/bar just from the looks on the outside. After sitting and working here (yes, free WIFI) for the past 5 hours, I can easily say that they have a great atmosphere. It's not crowded - spacious benches and seating for two all along the wall. There are two high tables towards the back. Uplifting/chill music, South American tapestries, and decor, the waitress is super friendly, and once in a while a young toddler chanting "cupcake, cupcake, cupcake". You get that family business vibe here. Best of all, the food is beyond expectations (and for this area, right next to the Q train), it's more than decent. Most menu items are below $12 and you get a range of sandwiches, fresh omelets that look so perfectly oval, hot cacao in 5 different variations, fresh baked goods on the counter, etc. Why doesn't this place have more reviews? read more

It is all delicious, it is all well-priced, and it is all true to the authentic story of Jorge Cardenas, a Guatemala native who lived some years in Berlin and now resides in NYC. (read his story in some of the articles about Ix Cafe in various NY publications). After visiting Guatemala for a week, I made it a point to seek out Guatemalan food in NYC. Ix Cafe fit the bill and then some. The space itself is gorgeous, featuring a dramatic hand-painting jaguar mural on the back wall of the cafe. I really like this place. Something about it is so cozy and nice. The servers are calm and cool and keep to themselves, but don't hesitate to provide something when you ask. Their hot chocolate is the bomb. One time, I simply had to use the restroom and they were totally genial about it. I'll def be making this one of my neighborhood go to's. read more

I'm a huge fan of this Guatemalan café. Great coffee and authentic Mesoamerican-style cocoa, if you're into that. Very good food. I love their omelets (cooked in the French style, fluffy and yellow, not browned) and their Central American hot sauce (closer to Chinese hot pepper oil than to Mexican salsa). Their homemade caramel sandwich cookies are excellent. The staff is sweet and hospitable. It's a great place to concentrate and work on the weekdays, but note that they have a "screen-free" policy on the weekends. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars out of 5 is their climate-control issues. The place is poorly insulated or something. In the winter, the inside can get quite cold, but I don't really mind that. I'm a fat guy, and I can wear a sweater or something indoors in I need to. But in the summer, the place can be unbearably hot for me! I got a lot of work done here last summer, but I was always sweating and couldn't stay too long. I hope they get some kind of air condition or better system of ventilating the place. Because if they do, this place will be perfect. read more

Ix restaurant is a perfect example of a place to have a small coffee or chocolate with a sandwich or omelet with Guatemala flavors. The chef chose to present the best of Guatemala. I had the pleasure of eating at IX on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is clean and brightly lit with Guatemalan mementos throughout. The food is just wonderful. I had a delicious shrimp soup with rice and my friend had Pepian. I took my friends there because they were missing their Guatemalan home cooking. This did not disappoint them. They were so happy. They loved the food. Best part was the kind and welcoming staff who chatted us up. The chef even gave my friends a little Guatemalan home made hot sauce. My wife and I both love Ix Café! It's a beautifully designed Guatemalan inspired café just blocks from beautiful Prospect Park. Our "go to" dish is the Caldo Ix which just might be the best chicken soup I've ever had in a restaurant. It's chock full of tender white meat chicken, carrots, potatoes and corn. Although seasoned to perfection, it is served with diced onions and lime on the side; which I do recommend adding to bring it to the next level. And, if you're having the soup to combat the effects of a cold, ask for their hot pepper sauce. Cold germs are no match. I have to admit that, most of the time, I'm trying to follow a vegetarian diet. Ix has some great vegetarian sandwiches and soup options. Since it's a Guatemalan run establishment, you have to try their hot chocolate. And, yes, their pastries are delicious! My only complaint is the folks who hog up tables with their laptops and coffee for hours on end, but I do believe Ix is trying to address that situation. Go, it's a gem, and we need to support places like this! read more

Hands-down, Ix is a gem in this neighborhood. I've tried everything from mocha lattes to coffee to their legendary soups (I'm not even a soup person) to egg dishes and sandwiches, and it's all been top notch. I'm not an easy customer, either. I don't eat meat but most dishes can be made without, even the soups, and still have a ton of flavor and complexity. They use in-house syrups and this crazy mocha from South America that is more delicious than any other chocolate drink I've had. In addition to the creative hot chocolates there are now creative mimosas! The staff and owner are so friendly and it really feels like a neighborhood spot. Kid-friendly. Outdoor window to order food if you have a dog, with a water dish there. So glad this space may finally be getting some long-term love after seeing so many places come and go in recent years. read more

The Chef at Ix is really talented and passionate. He's sharing all kinds of special treats from his childhood and Mayan delicacies. When you interact twith him or even catch glimpses of him you can see how delighted he is to be making food for the customers. I recommend trying anything on the menu that you've never heard of... it will delight your tastebuds and broaden your horizons! For example I'm still thinking about that Zingy popsicle with chile and pepitas....and it's really no longer popsicle weather. This is my on-the-go neighborhood coffee spot and I hope it never goes away, because it's one of those spots that become incorporated in your daily routine. The kind where you walk in, know the barista and chef, and know exactly what pastry is left at whatever hour. You take your first sip of that Colombo coffee, and you know your day is about to start. The interior is quite cute, relaxed, and cozy. I've never gotten the chance to spend much time sitting there, but oftentimes I see people sipping coffee away and reading a book or working on their laptop. On Sunday's there's a bigger family crowd that will have full sit-down meals. Lots of dog walkers hang around here since the park is so near.
