I've walked by this cafe a million times and today I decided to finally check it out. And man, I have been missing out!!! You have the option to order from the window or dine inside. I decided to dine in for a nice relaxing Sunday brekkie. The space is super cute! There's art all over the walls and some dope tunes playing over the speakers (not too loud) and with plenty of cute wooden tables to sit at. Overall it's a very beautiful cafe! The menu was pretty extensive and everything sounded delicious but I decided to order their spinach and feta omelette and since they are known for their cacao drinks, an iced almond milk Mocha. Servers were friendly and prompt even though they had a steady stream of customers at both the window and the counter. Food arrived quickly and it was delicious! They served up a hearty sized omelette and a side salad with some complimentary tortillas, too. All the ingredients were high quality and tasted fresh! They even had a homemade hot sauce that was out of this world! The mocha was probably the best I've ever had! It was cinammony-chocolatey perfection served up in a cute mason jar! I'm excited to come back here soon and try their carrot ginger soup, their sandwiches and maybe their hot chocolate, too! ***Update: so far I've eaten the Belleza sandwich, their green eggs sandwich, carrot ginger soup, crazy corn and the veggie sandwich and tried the lavender hot chocolate- all of which have been a HIT!! It's pronounced "eesh". This was my first time at this restaurant, and it didn't seem to be too busy for dinner (6/29/18). Happened upon this place on my way to hit up a bougier dinner spot, and snap-decided to ditch for the relative unknown. Ix is in my top five restaurants on the island (and I've visited ~25 in my life). Among the best of Brooklyn, in my opinion. I came in for quick bite before heading to the nearby roller rink in Prospect Park. The space, and the people working there were more than welcoming. Really good funk music at a respectful volume throughout. The water was served from a bottle as I was sitting down. Temperature inside was good, despite the scorching heat. This place is powerfully Mayan. I was handed a piece of art that described the name of the restaurant and what it means as soon as I sat down. By the way - the mural on the back wall is breathtaking. My order - Belleza sandwich - pork belly, kimchi, sesame, cilantro, sriracha mayo on ciabatta served with mixed greens. Hot sauce of "I don't know" chilis on the side. Delicious. Ix cacao - with roses/cococrunch. The food and drink were so delicious that I ordered something else too. Ask for the cards. Everything was delicious. I was hungry, sure, but the food was incredible at the price (for NYC). Do not sleep on the Cacao. I almost ordered coffee (You might be saying "Coffee with dinner, what are you, crazy?" A very long night was intended after dinner, so the late caffeine was acceptable to me) but I am so glad I went for the Cacao instead. Next time I'm in the area, I'm coming back, if only for another taste of hot chocolate. If you're ordering in - they deliver within a radius. That being said just go in, sit down, and have yourself a cup of cacao. Not to mention - cacao contains cannabinoids AND caffeine. What's not to love about this place? It's a bit too far away from the Prospect Park subway for me (less than a block). A bit pricey, too. But hey - it's New York City - you only get what you pay for. Tonight I ordered jocon soup dish at the recommendation of a friend. I was hoping to enjoy a good night having soup; however, that was not possible after trying the soup. The meal was extremely sour and bitter ( very difficult to consume). I asked the waitress to exchange the dish with a simple chicken soup. They did and then charged me $40 for both dishes. I could not consume the first dish due to the bitter sour taste and there was no consideration made regarding the meal. Suggestion be easy on the cilantro you and flexible when a dish is returned, you might get a better review. This left a Bad taste in my mouth. read more

Ix's soups are among the most natural and tasty around. I love soup but so often they're over salted and under flavored. Not so with all of theirs. I return again and again to the Caldo Tlapeño Rojo but also love their Caldo de Aji Amarillo. The queso fundido is to die for. And so is the hot chocolate. It's my local go-to when I'm sick, hungover or just wanting something hearty and delicious but not overly processed or heavy. You will not regret a trip to Ix! read more

At this point I have tried almost every soup on the menu, 75% of the sandwiches, and about 50% of the chocolate. I have loved it all. I enjoy the ambiance, pre-pandemic, the restaurant had created a true folkloric style and it was awesome. I think they've done a great job bringing in the same feeling outdoors. I have always had great service and the staff is really friendly. I just started trying some of the omelettes and so far so good. The cold drinks are also a delight during a hot day. Well, I found this place a couple of months ago and have been about 4 times. I come here in the mornings to get some work done and always order several drinks and an omelet​​. There is one lady here who is a bit rude when you ask for the wifi. So today I come in. I'm the only one sitting at a table in the whole place. Rude lady comes over with her normal attitude. I ask for the wifi, she reluctantly gives it to me and then says "you only have an hour for computers" and storms off. Okay... So sadly because of her rudeness and their refusal to let me sit and work when their establishment has maybe 5 tables full during the morning hours - almost all of people working - I won't be back after today. Came here the other day before heading to the park. They have an amazing deal in a bottle of froze- I definitely recommend if you & some friends are deciding to grab some. It is amazing. Also very convenient considering it is right next to prospect park. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is I ordered some cookies from there. These cookies were not bad but came out more as scones or biscottis. I definitely needed to dip them in some coffee for them to be enjoyable. Just a warnings to you all about the cookies. 10/10 recommend visiting this spot though. read more

Wow! Can I give 10 stars! This unassuming cafe has best espresso and macchiato in prospect leffert area. And the food is insanely good. Incredible diversity of Guatemalan inspired soups and sandwiches. I had the pollo soup with corn, carrots, green beans, potatoes, perfect spices of fresh lime, cilantro and onions to top the soup. Barely edible takeout. Green salad tastes overwhelmingly of bacon bits. The "pickled carrots" on my sandwich were not pickled but tasted of vinegar mixed with dish water. The bread was of the lowest quality corn syrup sit on a shelf type - I would have rathered wonder bread. Nearly none of the tastes described in the descriptions came through well. A great find and a nice short bus ride. Great food. Great twists on traditional Mexican food, pleasant surroundings and the chef/owner can still be found on the premises. Wow! Food was amazing. The staff was personal and told us the story behind a lot of plates. Very authentic experience! One of the persons in our party had a bad allergy, and the chef came out and explained that her dish was safe and he prepared it himself. Always a huge plus. At one point, the manager was taking our order, and we asked if we could make an alteration to a drink, and she jokingly said "I could, but I won't!". We all laughed, and It honestly made the experience better because she explained why the hot cacao was made the way it was and I learned a lot more about South American food and cacao because of it. It made me feel like a regular I guess. The cacao is unreal by the way! The service was kind of slow, but the experience more that made up for it. I feel like these people saved my life - I was deathly sick with the flu and couldn't even get up to cook. I ordered their rojo chicken soup and dulce de leche and it cured me 100%.
