Used to be good/the best around but the service now is sub par. She said she couldn't hem a dress in a week. Time to retire.

Just picked up my bridesmaid dress from here and they did a FABULOUS job. I was extremely nervous cause I was forced to buy a dress that was 4 sizes to big for me but they did the most amazing job making it fit like a glove! I really wanted to like this place because of all the good reviews I found online! I was going to take my bridesmaid dress for tailoring at a spot nearby me that wanted $45 but decided to price this place since a friend recommended. I tried on the dress and in the dressing room I saw other people's dresses with $45 -55 prices (as expected). when the seamstress went to cut my ticket she quoted me $65! When I told her that I thought it was too much and felt quoted unfairly she then lowered the price to $45. I felt embarrassed and upset that they were trying to upcharge me. The other employees there are very kind. But I am not sure I'll return again. read more

Yelp delivers! I recently moved to North Bergen and looked at Yelp to find a tailor. The reviews for Italmoda were so overwhelmingly positive that I gave it a try and now I'm among those giving rave reviews. Yvonne is terrific. So far she has hemmed three pairs of jeans for me, brought in the waist on a pair of slacks and shortened the sleeves on a sports coat - and it's all excellent work, double-checked and delivered on time at a very reasonable price. (The charge for all of the above work came to a total of $95.) She asked me twice about the hems to make sure she understood what I wanted and I understood what she would do. After I left, she discovered a potential problem with the sports coat, called me and asked me to drop in at my leisure so I could see what she was worried about and return the jacket to the store if I wanted to. You've got to appreciate that kind of attention to the customer. (As it turned out, we were able to come up with a solution that worked great; she just wanted to make sure it worked for me.) I'm about to go back to get another pair of slacks hemmed. read more

I can not say I am well versed in tailors but I can tell you this place is amazing. The woman (Yvonne?) is a straight shooter, tells you what you need and nothing more and does an amazing job for the best price around. I went to a few other tailors in the area and all wanted to charge me more and were less meticulous about the fit. I will never go to another tailor! read more

Long before Hoboken was invaded by yuppies such as myself, Yvonne has had her little Italian tailor shop Italmoda. Us yups love to bring our suits, dresses, and skirts there to get taken in so they fit just right and we can look great at the investment banks, weddings, and lounges. The prices are fair for the quality of work. Yes, it does look like a scene from hoarders in there, so brace yourself, but its worth it. read more

I've been here twice, but both times due to Yvonne's honesty, I didn't even have any work done. I went in with a suit that needed its sleeves shortened. Yvonne pointed out that the functional buttons were so close to the edge of the sleeve, I should think about whether I wanted a shorter sleeve or enough room between the buttons and end that it didn't look silly. She didn't push her opinion on me, but she made sure I thought about it, and I ultimately decided not to do anything to it, because I would have had to settle for one problem or the other. I ultimately took it back to the store I bought it from to get it shortened from the shoulder, because Yvonne said it would be cheaper to have them do it. I've seen it happen twice: if Yvonne doesn't think she can give you the best result, she would rather NOT TAKE YOUR MONEY! I'll never buy a suit without taking here. Was looking for a good tailor, and like many people found this place through yelp. I am pretty pleased that I did. The old woman who assisted me comes off as a little short and rude at first, but then you realize she's just a nice little old European woman...they are like that. She won't beat around the bush, and if she thinks what you're asking for won't look good or work well she will tell you. The quality and fit came out really well, but the price does seem just A TAD high. I brought in a suit and got the pants hemmed and the waist taken out, and the jacket sleeves shortened. All that was $85. I honestly don't get things tailored too often so I wouldn't know if that's outrageous or if the quality was worth it, but all in all, I'm satisfied and will probably bring something there again when the time comes. A quick note that I find odd no one mentioned in the reviews i saw: The store looks like something out of A&E's "Hoarders". There are random articles of clothes and pins and spools of thread and all this other clutter everywhere. Its a little shocking at first so just be prepared. You'll get over it. I came on yelp to find a good tailor in the area and I'm glad I did. This place nails it. Super honest and knows how to make you look like a boss. I buy mediocre suits then spend $100 to get them tailored and get nothing but compliments. She'll make your suit look like it's worth a lot more than your paid. Yvonne is awesome. I went in with 4 skirts and a coat to have fixed or changed and she originally said it would take a week but she called in three days that it was done. She's super friendly and upfront. I also had two pairs of pants to take in that she said wouldn't be worth it. All the work done was pretty straightforward, but I wouldn't mind going back for something more complex later. It was nice too that even after the first time she knew who I was; she calls me the Book Lady... Only other thing I would change is that I thought it was a bit pricy given what I had done. Based on comments here I thought it would be cheaper, but maybe it was more complex of a job than I thought. read more

My strapless taffeta bridesmaid dress with a tucked bodice and a skirt with a side drape fit poorly and needed some major alterations. I scheduled in advance to have the dress tailored months before the wedding with a seamstress. That seamstress repeatedly rescheduled and cancelled, leaving me with one week before the wedding and a dress that needed work. I searched Yelp, saw Italmoda, called to explain my problem, and was told to bring the dress over that same day. Alternations were done in a few days and I was kept updated on the progress of the dress. I was stunned by the quality of the work and the speed at which it was done. On the wedding day, the other bridesmaid dresses, all which were altered by other tailors, had problems that required pinning and taping the dresses in place. I, however, had no issues whatsoever. There is no doubt I will be returning here in the future. read more

Talk about honest and straight forward! Yvonne has tailored my clothes since I moved to the area in 2004. I'm not a clothes shopper. She's made sure that anything that I brought in, I'd look great in after she finished with it. There have been a few times that she's made me second guess my purchase and I've returned it. She still offered to fix them, but she's always looked out for my best interest and not the bottom dollar. In my opinion, she can do anything with what's in front of her. Yvonne is the best tailor I have ever used. I've wasted thousands of dollars over the years going to many tailors who just couldn't get my suits right. I was so happy when I finally found Yvonne that I gladly travelled from two towns away to use her. Originally from Italy, she is a true professional tailor who takes her craft seriously and always does an outstanding job. My only regret is that I am now moving to Maui and will no longer have her available to do my tailoring. Luckily, I won't need any suits out there :-). Of course, before I left I rushed 5 pairs of silk pants over to her that I needed for work and she turned them around to perfection in no time. I just couldn't stand the thought of having to find someone on the island to do my tailoring. Yvonne is simply that good. Amazingly friendly and great at what she does, Yvonne is simply the best to work with, knows how to fix anything at a fair price with a smile. An old fashioned Italian tailor - what could be better. It's like having my Italian grandmother back. Every time I see her I want to smile and hug her. She is a gem, an amazingly kind person and talented tailor with a great sense of humor. She will do an equally great job with a pair of jeans than she will with a hand-made Brioni suit. If you treat her with respect, she will treat you with the same and do a wonderful job for you at a fair price. However, if you are a self-important ass (unfortunately too many of those around), take your business elsewhere because she doesn't deserve your nonsense. I only wish I could clone her. I would like to start and day that please read all good and BAD reviews prior to considering this place. I unfortunately only read the good ones and was mislead by the 4.5 star review this place holds. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DRESS HERE IF YOU NEED MAJOR ALTERATIONS. I brought a bridesmaids gown in about a month ago, i had gained some weight over the summer so the zipper in the back would not close fully. When the women and gentleman took a look at my dress their remarks on how poorly the dress was made and how it was almost impossible for them to do anything made me so uncomfortable. The man suggested a way to get the back to work but essentially he would have to create a whole new back when asked how much it would cost I was told $220!!!!!!!! Insane but me not knowing I ended up going with it. When I went to pick up my dress last week the whole entire back was destroyed, I was now swimming in the dress that at one point did not fit me at all and $220 went to complete waste. The older women there made some snarky remarks when I told her that the back was just a bit to low and said "it's too late now". I had to bring my dress to another tailor to have them undo the awful job that was done at this shop which was another $100. Maybe they are great for small alterations but they are just not equipped for big jobs. Please learn from my mistake and do not get overcharged by these people for a terrible tailoring job. read more

Came here based on reviews. Brought in a new suit that I thought looked really good, but my girlfriend thought the pants were tight. Yvonne agreed with her and showed me some issues with the jacket too. I trusted her opinion and ended up returning that suit. On my second try, I brought a new suit to shorten the sleeves and pant legs, she also recommended something on the back. The sleeves cost $25. And I think the pants $15, the back $50. The suit looks terrific and the cost was well worth it. read more

This is the only place to go when having clothes tailored. I've had three suits done -- and recently brought in 15 shirts to have taken in....only cost me $15 bucks a shirt. Yvonne is very friendly and knows how clothes should fit --- take your clothes to one of these "dry cleaner" tailors and you're likely to get back a shirt that still doesn't fit. Best place I've found in Hoboken to get something tailored. I have gone to random dry cleaners for things like simple hems, they ended up being different lengths or falling out after a few cleanings. The lady at Italmoda is friendly, and does a great job. I've had multiple pants and a suit fitted by her and they all fit great. I had a sport coat that was torn in the back by dry cleaning and she was able to slightly shorten the jacket without any noticeable change. Highly recommended. read more

I will never have alterations done anywhere else ever again. The owner is so incredibly sweet, and she will help you out in anyway she can. My dress was tailored to perfection. They were able to give me suggestions on some fit questions I had, and my dress was even ready two days before I was set to pick it up. I prefer Italmoda because I am treated professionally and my clothes are treated with care. I've had several bad experiences with tailors who were rude and/or tossed my clothes into crumpled piles and/or lost my clothes and one who even claimed that someone else came and picked up my clothing for me! I don't have to worry about these things with Italmoda. She appears to truly enjoy what she does - custom tailoring - and she does it well. read more

Absolutely the WORST service I have ever received. I come in off the street freezing from this terrible weather only to be harassed by the female owner of the shop. She refused to help me and cornered me by the door essentially pushing me out. What is more - the shop looks like a scene right out of Hoarders. Needless to say, I went down the way to VIP Cleaners and was offered a tissue for my runny nose (since it was so cold out) and a prompt response to tailor my dress. I have never experienced such terrible service in my life and would warn anyone who is looking for a tailor to stay away from this place! read more

I thought they were terrific. They did a really great job for me on two suits that were difficult to tailor and an extra pair of pants. Like having your Mom or Grandma tailor your cloths lol. I don't why Italmoda gets such high ratings. I've been twice now (based upon Yelp reviews) and both experiences have been disappointing. The work has been mediocre at best, with stitching being crooked and unfinished. If you want to check it out, I would suggest taking something simple that you don't care too much about. Someone mentioned not judging the appearance of the store...I would suggest that if a place is as messy as this, then quality is not the primary concern. read more

However, I think it worths mentioned to all the ladies that unfortunately they don't do jobs for women's special dresses by themselves and you'll need to make an appointment with limited available time slots with "a friend of theirs." read more

Expert tailoring with friendly service. I took a suit here to be tailored for a wedding in Costa Rica. She measured me quickly and consulted with me about my requested changes. Rather than pushing me to do more work (more money for her) she actually encouraged me to do less work on the suit (less money for her). I wanted the pleats removed (a costly endeavor) and she told me that based on the cost of the suit and the timing for my trip it was not worth it. I really admire a business that looks out for the best interests of their customers and not just $$$. This was my first experience with Italmoda and it wont be my last. The suit was ready to go ahead of schedule and she even stayed open late so I could pick it up after work. The best part came when I got a call from her a week after I returned from my trip. She had heard about recent earthquakes in Costa Rica and just wanted to see if I was safe. What amazing customer service!!! I am an Italmoda customer for life. read more

Yvonne does a great job and turns things around really quickly! The place is very messy inside but don't let that turn you away.

While living in Hoboken, Yvonne was my go to for any alterations from hemming jeans and dress pants to shortening dresses. Even though I only went to her a handful of times, she remembered me every time. She's very knowledgeable of fit and fabric and will always give you her honest opinion, even when she thinks a piece isn't worth altering. The place is no frills and looks like a mess which I imagine may turn some people away but it's organized chaos. The turnaround is very quick too. Yvonne asks when you need your alternations done by but she usually finishes early and calls you to let you know it's ready for pick up. The hours are great. I've never had issues going after work or on the weekends. It's cash only and you pay when you pick up. One time I misread my receipt and didn't have enough cash with me. Yvonne was nice enough to take what I had on hand even though I insisted on going to the ATM. I recently moved to Chelsea and am considering sticking with Yvonne because a great tailor is hard to find! read more

I went there to alter some shirts based on the stellar reviews both on Google and Yelp and had very high expectations. She was nice enough when I went there but was going on about how nothing is of quality these days and that if you want good work you have to pay for it. She's not cheap but I thought alright she seems confident enough. For 15$ a shirt she basically pinched two sides of my shirts and sewn them together. Didn't bother to remove the extra material so while the fit is good, I now have extra flaps on the inside of the shirt which is visible from the outside and looks so weird if I wear them without a jacket. Was it that difficult to remove the extra materials? Also after leaving it there for a week, my shirts now smell funky. read more

I found Italmoda through Yelp reviews and I have to say that the reviews are right. I came to Yvonne to get jeans hemmed and taken in (the bottoms were way too flared for me) and to get 2 dresses tailored. She did a fantastic job on the jeans - perfect length and no more bell bottoms. She was also very honest with me on one of the dresses - telling me that it would cost me about $80 to get it tailored so I should think about it. She charged me $30 for the jeans and another $30 to get a dress hemmed. read more
