    Altered bridesmaid dress
    Jamie H.

It was a very quick and convenient experience - you book an appointment online, arrive on time and get let up to the 8th floor of the Wework building. The Wework building is only a 9 minute walk from the 33rd st Station which is a plus. The tailoring measurement process literally takes 10 minutes as Kai pins and marks dress for hem. Then he gives you the quote and you pay via card tap or cash. I dropped my chiffon bridesmaid dress off on Monday night and it was ready for pickup Thursday afternoon. I needed tapering in the back to take the dress in, and hemming at the bottom to make it a tad bit shorter (3 layers of dress) and the total came out to $201 with tax included. I'm overall impressed with the timing and the quality of the hem. This is my first time getting something tailored so I don't have a baseline for price, unsure if there's something cheaper on the market. However the convenience made it worth it, and Kai was very friendly and seemed knowledgable during the consultation. I'd recommend coming here for quick tailoring needs!

I purchased a coat online, I was impressed by the rating, and the authentic fur hood. When this coat was delivered to my home I was impressed with the timeliness of the delivery and the quality of the coat. I found it on sale and valued the opportunity to find something so affordable but needed adjustments with the fit. This bought me to the showroom where I was greeted by a customer friendly sale person. I was advised of the super easy return/exchange policy and I explained that I wanted the same coat, she bought me the same coat and bought me a selection to choose from as I exchange for the fit. I loved the selection and chose another coat that was similar to my first choice. I'm extremely glad I visited the showroom because the pictures, quality, and consistent customer services owes me absolutely nothing. As I'm sitting here and watching the sales persons engage with other customers, I am impressed by the consistency, laughter, and professionalism. This was a memorable experience I usually don't shop stores, I shop online because of the convenience but I will track here to make my next purchase because of the quality of actually feeling the fur and the engaging customer service. Kept original hem

I had been meaning to get these white cargo jeans hemmed for over a year. I'm 5'0" and normally wear a 28in inseam so finding jeans that fit is really tough. Loved the fit of these Urban Outfitters jeans but they were about 4in too long. From booking the appointment, to booking the pick up, the process is very organized and efficient. You can see that Kai kept the original hem of the jeans and everything is very straight. I had dropped off the jeans on a Saturday afternoon and they were ready for pickup by Monday evening. Insane turn around time (not that I needed them for anything urgent).

Best tailor in the city hands down. Came here based on good reviews and it did not disappoint. I brought some pieces to tailor and to my wondeful surprise they do not look tailored at all, they look custom made for me. They did a wonderful job and fast too. Found my tailor in the city. If you have any doubts on coming, don't and make an appointment.

I was doing a quick Yelp & Google search for a tailor to hem 3 pairs of pants, and I found Dejavu Tailoring! I was initially very intrigued by the $5 basic hemming deal they always run, so I booked an appointment and headed uptown to the Wework that Kai's studio is located in. He's super nice & personable, and made me feel very comfortable the entire time. My pants needed a little more finesse than basic hemming, so they ended up being a bit more for more complex stitching, which is still very very good price-wise especially for Midtown! My stuff was ready less than a week later and the quality of the stitching was impeccable. Lines were super straight and neat, and the threads matched my clothes perfectly! I'd definitely come back to Kai to get more tailoring done and he also has really cool custom jackets if you're in the market for some really stylish leather cold-weather outerwear! Thank you again Dejavu & Kai! I highly recommend him for all your tailoring needs :-)

I'm here in NYC on a business trip and wanted to shorten the length of a pair of trousers I recently purchased. I found Kai/Dejavu Tailoring on Yelp, and was able to make an appointment promptly through the online system. Kai was swift in pinning my adjustments and then had the pants shortened in two days. The quality of the tailoring is superior and they were seamlessly done. I plan on bringing more items to this tailor when I'm back in the city.

Look at the hem, it was at least 36 inches when we started

Had a few items that I needed serious tailoring and so I made my appointment and the rest is history. Today, I returned to pick up my clothes and I was so happy at how they all came out. Kai tailored my linen wide leg pants and was able to take a very roomy vest and tailor that to my body. I have a pair of premium Levi's jeans that were way to long but the wanted to keep the original hem. The end result it look like they were made from the factory. I didn't have to worry about comprising the look or length. My clothes look better after the tailoring than when I purchased them. The quality that goes into the tailoring is top notch and the value and savings is incredible. No more wasting money if clothes get too big or need to be let out. Salvage those clothes and save your money. Run don't walk and get that perfect tailored look

    The gown looked amazing!!

I had two gowns that I purchased online, both very long and I needed to get them tailored. One gown I planned to wear on my cruise in January of 2024. Unfortunately, I found out that the cleaners that I used for several years and the wife used to do all of my tailoring of my jeans, pants, tops, skirts, etc., closed 6 months prior. I had no idea of who or where to go, so I checked Yelp. I was successful in finding a great hair braider on Yelp, so I thought let me see the reviews on good tailors. I found a dry cleaner on the Upper East side, but they were out of the way from where I live and work. Afterwards, I found Dejavu Tailoring, and the hundreds of reviews they had, more than the first place I found. Dejavu has also been featured in the media. As a result, I decided to check Dejavu Tailoring out. I spoke with Kai the owner and explained what I needed to have done. His office was a few blocks in the Garment District from where I worked, so that was very convenient. I brought in both dresses, and he measured the first navy gown, and the second blue ombre gown I wanted to wear for the cruise was next. We went back and forth on the length of the hem. Kai wanted to make it floor length, and I wanted my heels to show, at least the front of the heel as they were sparkly. We decided on an inch to hem. As I thought more on it, I was not happy with that, so then later that day I sent him the photos of the picture of the gown on the model, and I also researched on hem lines and what I was looking for. I didn't want the dress to be too formal as it had pockets and I wanted it to look dressy and fun. I had met him again the next day to try the dress on again before he tailored it, with what I wanted as it was not floor length, but almost floor length he said. The week after I came to pick it up and I was nervous on how it would look, and the gown was perfect, it skimmed the floor without touching it, and my heels were able to peek out when I put my foot forward. I was able to swirl around, and the ombre color was striking. It was a lot more than I expected to pay for tailoring as far as price to be honest, but once it was completed, I was very satisfied and was happy with Kai and his tailoring and customer service, and his love and passion for his work showed in how my gown was tailored. I recently went back to Kai this month as I had purchased a multi color dress that was too large in the armpits, and also a blue blouse that was too large on the shoulders. Kai worked his magic again. A week later I went to pick up my clothing, and had fitted them on. The blouse fit much better, and so did the dress, it made a big difference and looked like the dress was custom made for me. Kai also has his own coat and clothing label, and showed and had me try on a few leather and fur coats, and wool and fur coats that were both stunning and beautiful. Thank you Kai for all that you do! I am happy that I chose you to be my tailor! God bless you!

tailors were able to hem this skirt, let it out up top, and match the stripes to the original waistband which was horizontal. well done!!
    Annie M.

had an outstanding experience with Dejavu back in December!! Kai was super flexible scheduling and accommodated my busy schedule. We worked together to find the best possible solution for a skirt I wanted tailored, but that had a pattern in the fabric that required some creative placement. I was willing to compromise since it seemed like it would be a tricky job but lo and behold the Dejavu experts did a fabulous job and managed to get the skirt tailored to fit me PERFECTLY without affecting the pattern at all. I am so thrilled with the results, and I will absolutely be returning very soon with more alterations. My favorite way to shop now is finding hi-quality second-hand (and often designer) pieces, and having Dejavu fit them to me perfectly. My wardrobe is shaping up to be the best it's ever been and I'm so thankful to Kai and the Dejavu team for their wonderful work!

    $5 hem
    Alex R.

One of the most pleasant customer experiences in recent memory. I went to Dejavu awhile back when the store was in Alphabet City. The $5 hem lured me and I thought it was incredible deal considering almost everyone charges 15/20 for same work. After a big sample sale I needed 5 pairs of pants altered again. I googled Dejavu who moved to Williamsburg a block away from Bedford L stop. The hem special is still $5!! Chatted with owner, Kai, who said that he loves to give back to community with his very price approachable alterations. And best part, besides the price, without asking all the pants were hemmed by the next day.

Kai is incredible--he tailored an oversized dress for me. It came out better than the original design, fit perfectly and was done quickly. Best tailor in NYC - thanks again!

The finished shorts! Original hem, tapering, and taking the waist in 2-3".
    Catherine N.

After seeing his great reviews on Yelp, I decided to try out Déjà-vu Tailoring. I had a few pairs of vintage jeans I thrifted online, but the items' measurements didn't match the description. Specifically, the waist on two pairs was a good two inches larger than advertised. So I took them to Kai at Déjà-vu. He had to do extensive alterations on those pairs to take in the waistline, and I also got an original hem on both pairs. The finished product is like a completely new pair! I attached photos of one pair of shorts that needed these extensive alterations. Now I have a wardrobe staple to last many years!

Unfortunately I had a very poor experience here and will not be back…read more For starters you have to enter a fabric shop and descend the stairs in the back of the shop to get to where they do the alterations. The place to change was simply a thin black fabric sheet that was nearly see through strung up next to the water heater/furnace. Needless to say this made me very weary of changing knowing there were many men in the shop just on the other side of the curtain. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed and brought it in without bothering to bring the high heels I intended to wear with it because I was experiencing some foot swelling and they wouldn't have fit my foot at the time to begin with. I immediately addressed this with the person marking the dress and told them my heels were about 4 inches high so to please add on an additional 3- 3 1/2 inches to the height indicated so the dress would still be floor length when I wear the heels. The communication between myself and the person marking the dress was extremely clear and there were even written notes indicating the extra length to be kept on the dress. I was surprised by the price for the hemming, but they justified the dress was 3 layers and I had to pay prior to them doing the work and they even asked for a tip upfront too! I left the shop confident everything would turn out as expected, as I assumed the high price would guarantee a job well done. Within a week the dress was ready for pickup and I check the seems before leaving, but do not bother trying on the dress as I trusted they did exactly as we had agreed upon. The seems did not look very nice to me, a touch sloppy and wasn't completely straight, but at the end of the day I knew no one else would be looking closely so I accepted the dress and left. I tried on the dress at home only to find out it was even shorter than where the markings were during the fitting! Even flat-footed without any shoes on, the dress did not touch the ground. It was a disaster once I put my intended high heels on and it was the equivalent of high-waters but with a dress. In a panic I text or email them and even provide photos. They say I could bring it back, but by that point I only had a few days before the wedding and even if they let out the seems, one inch of fabric was not enough when it was missing at least 3 inches! They did go so far as to offering to purchase me another dress and to redo the hemming which I do think was above and beyond in attempting to make it right, but the dress was a special order color and there was no way to get another one in time. I finally spoke to the bride who just didn't want to risk the dress getting more messed up and asked to keep it as-is and the final resolution I received from the business was just a vague offer to discount a future service, no offer to even partially refund me for the poor work that had already been paid for. I ended up having to wear some much lower shoes and just bend my legs a bit in the photos so my dress looked the same length as the other bridesmaids. Overall my experience here was poor and I wouldn't want to risk another special occasion garment coming out not as expected. With so many other shops offering alterations in the area for a similar or cheaper price point I would choose another place.

Went here a few months ago to get some suits tailored. Tailor job was good, but the service was…read moresome of the worst I've ever experienced and that alone is enough to make sure I never go back. When I dropped my things off, I was told it would be ready and given a range of days to pick it up. I went by the last day in the pickup range, and not everything was ready yet. I grabbed the stuff that was and asked when my last article would be ready. They again gave me a pickup date. I came by on the second pickup date and the suit was still not ready. I was never notified that the timeframe had changed or anything, they just let me show up and wasted my time twice in a row.
