Listen.... I called this morning about my suit jacket and pants being tailored and they said it would be absolutely no more than 300 with any necessary alterations. I went in, fit, and they asked me for 700$. The suit itself was 850. I work in fashion in NYC and this is absolutely outrageous. Even compared to the pricing limits they say on their website these are extraordinarily higher. I appreciate the hustle, and I'm sure the work would've been done well, but luckily I cancelled before anything started. Don't let them tell you one thing, make your way all the way there with your stuff to be overcharged. Absolutely obscene. read more

Having just moved to NYC, I found myself in need of an alteration specialist. Having literally found Alts through an Internet search, I chose them. I figured the previous positive customer experiences must account for something! I had torn a very expensive Italian cotton King Duvet Cover from Sferra. The repair I needed must be precise and must be able to withstand the washing cycle this cover gets. The staff was very friendly and was able to accommodate me same day! I brought several pieces to Cristina (fitter) and Lemi (tailor) -- one wool coat (shoulders taken in), two blazers (shoulders in, cuffs lengthened, body tailored), two trousers (hemmed), and a dress that needed a full resize while keeping the original details intact -- and they did a fantastic job on everything. Cristina is meticulous with fittings and makes thoughtful suggestions that elevate the final result. Lemi's craftsmanship is impeccable -- every seam and proportion feels intentional. Tried this place based on reviews and brought in 2 pairs of jeans for my teen daughter. She was very specific about the length, but one pair came back way too short. It took a week to get altered, and then we were told it would take another week to fix their mistake. When we went to pick them up, they still weren't ready--told to come back in 2 more days. If an error is made, it should be a priority to correct, not something customers are asked to wait even longer for. We're new to the neighborhood and do a lot of alterations for work apparel--thankfully we tested the place first with an inexpensive item. Very disappointed in the service and turnaround. read more

I had an awful experience with Alts. Please beware and go to a real dress maker that has actual expertise. I brought them my wedding dress for a minor alteration to the shoulders, and they did a terrible job and made my dress almost unwearable. I had to scramble at the last minute before my wedding for a second alteration, and the final product was still so disapointing. My mother also brought her dress for my wedding here for a simple fix to a sleeve, and their alteration ended up changing the waist of the dress, and which meant it could no longer be zipped. This place is all smoke and mirrors. Yes it's convenient and the space is pretty, but they are sloppy and inexperienced, and my mistake in going to Alts ended up costing me so much stress. More details: The top of my dress needed to be taken up, and I brought it in with the bra I would be wearing. The alteration was uneven, not fitted to my body, the neckline was still loose, and I spent the whole night of my wedding adjusting the top of my dress. In addition, my bra is showing in many of the photos, even though my explicit request to the seamstress was that the dress fully cover my bra. In addition to the lousy top alternation, the seamstress suggested she remove a pleat in the back of the dress which she said looked "weird". Removing it ruined the back of the dress completely and I had to have this work undone, and while they eventually refunded me for this particular piece of work, they were quite unkind about it. Lastly my mother also had her dress altered here. She just needed the sleeves taken in. In taking in the sleeves, they added a tack which made the zipper (which previously worked totally fine) unzippable. As a result, my mother had to wear a different dress, and could not return this dress as it had been altered. Please just don't bother with this place or be duped by the insta aethetic. Find a real dressmaker and save yourself a huge hassle. read more

I had 2 dresses altered by Fontaine- she has magic hands - one was a complete remake, and it came out more than perfect. It was a tricky dress, and she made it even better! The other was a simple moving of closures, but she paid attention to every detail so the drape remained lovely. It was super easy to make an appointment, everyone was so sweet, I am very happy to have found a place that appreciates the fit of clothes (all the tailors are very chic) and works hard to make your experience perfect. read more
