I called for an estimate of a simple alteration - raw hem CUT of a dress I bought at SAKS FIFTH AVENUE (i.e., Chiara Boni), which is $1,000+ full price. There is no sewing involved. I described the job on the phone. The man refused to give me a price range. Instead I had to come in for an estimate. He told me he would send me an e-mail with an appointment, same day in an hour: 5:00. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I never got the e-mail.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived, I had to check in using a QR code. Again, I just wanted an estimate. They also insisted on knowing when I needed the dress back. I told them I would give them an answer when I knew how much it would cost.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The saleswoman led me to the back and opened a curtain to the dressing room. I don't need to try it on because again, I just want an estimate. Another woman appeared and told me $125. What?!?! She said she'd check in the back to confirm. It's normally $145 but she's going to give me a "discount" to bring it to $125. They wouldn't just cut it with scissors. They would have a machine do it. Would a machine do it better????? Guess how much Saks would charge? $25!!!! And they would probably replace the dress if they mess up the job. This place is a racket. I guess the machine/the seamstress gets paid $25 and all the extra staff and the rent are what cost the extra $100. What has happened to NYC????? Small mom and pops are being put of business by these "luxury" places! It's all marketing people!!!! That's what you are paying for. I'm genuinely shocked by the poor quality of my experience at Alts (especially considering the price). I needed full body measurements taken for a custom dress I'm having made. The initial quote told me pricing would start between $25 to $35 depending on how extensive the measurements were. I ended up paying $56, which wouldn't have been such an issue if the measurements taken had been accurate. I had the measurements double checked with another tailor and many of them were several inches off. I'm not surprised - the person taking my measurements seemed rushed, and was often confused about what part of my body was supposed to be measured even though she was working off of a measurement sheet provided by Alts. For example, in the field "Shoulder to shoulder (front)", she measured the back of my shoulders. When we arrived at the field "Shoulder to shoulder (back)", she said we had already taken that and was about to leave off the front shoulders until I asked her to do them. For the full body measurements, she often just made an estimated guess instead of actually measuring. I would definitely not come back here again. Alts positions themselves as a high-end tailor, but the work doesn't match up with the positioning or price. read more

THIS ESTABLISHMENT WILL CHARGE YOU FOR WORK THEY DID NOT DO. I came here because I needed a bridesmaid dress altered in a pinch. I flew in from out of town and only had a week before I was to be in a wedding. I got to this place after searching around town. They seemed to be a high quality service provider. I needed a few alterations to the dress including a hemming of the train. My total bill came to $465, which I felt like I had no choice to pay since I was on limited time. I paid and within a week's time I was told my dress was ready for pickup. I get there and one alteration clearly was not done. In fact, the marking was still left of the dress. I left it with them for another 15 minutes to actually complete. I try the dress on and everything appeared to be fine until the next day. The next day is the day of the wedding. I fully step into the dress and get tripped up, only to find pins are still left in the dress from where the train was supposed to be hemmed. I take the pins out and keep them because it's unbelievable that they charged me almost $500, tell me the dress is ready, I show up and catch one alteration that wasn't done, and catch another one the next day. When I notified them of this, they did a false investigation and tried to tell me that it was done and that sometimes pins get stuck in the garments when trying on in studio. The pins weren't sticking out, they were tucking the garment! What am I, 5?! They also claimed to have seen me walk around the floor after trying the dress on and not seeing any pins themselves. One, I'm a grown adult, I know what I did and I didn't walk around with the dress on, I just tried it on. Two, of course you wouldn't see the pins, they were tucking in the folded train that I unraveled! They claim they don't give refunds but were quick to tell me I could get a 10% discount if I'm ever back in town or I can lend that to a friend. You think I want a friend getting charged an arm and a leg for work that you're not going to do?! Don't come here. It's not worth it. They're dishonest with their work and the price doesn't match the quality of the work they actually do. read more

If i could give 0 stars I would. They absolutely destroyed one of my dresses and made me pay $175 to do so. When i asked them to readjust it they tried to charge me an extra $125. After back and forth they told me they would do it for free (fix their own mistakes). Not only did they not fix it but they may have made it worse. Do not trust them with anything. Brought in a tricky tailoring job for a patterned organza skirt and they did an incredible job! They used some extra material from the skirt's belt and matched the print SO seamlessly. You'd have to look really hard to figure out where it's been altered. Really appreciated that they asked me to come partway through for a fitting to make sure everything was just right before they finished everything up. Everything was ready to go early to boot (always a plus). On the pricier side for alterations but worth it when dealing with quality garments. read more

I asked the Alts team to repair the lining of a jacket after an abysmal attempt by a cleaner. David is a wizard with a needle. The lining came out better than new. The care taken and craftsmanship demonstrated was as evident in the quality of the repair as it was in the smile on David's face when they delivered the restored jacket. Bibi, is a most talented seamstress and warm personality. I had a new dress I was certain didn't fit, and I was prepared to pay $$$$ to have it severely altered, as I was under a time crunch and could not return to the store. Bibi zipped it right up, measured and marked for length and assured me it was a beautiful dress that I should feel confident in. The conversation with Jessica (front desk) and Bibi during my fitting was so comfortable, I had no doubt they were excellent at what they do. Absolutely kind and personable humans. Also, they finished my alterations days before anticipated. Highly recommended. Cheap? Absolutely not. But if you want cheap, you'll get what you pay for. DO NOT go here for your wedding dress. After 3 months of appointments, I ended up needing to order a BRAND NEW DRESS two weeks before my wedding, which was luckily even an option. Overall such a distressing experience (and for an astronomical cost). I was okay with what I was being charged because I expected to receive elite service, which was NOT what I received. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was gaslit at multiple appointments and had 3 appointments turn into 5 due to poor communication and operations from the ALTS team.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was told I needed to pay upfront prior to the service being completed which in hindsight is bizarre. Buttons and seams were completely crooked. I was told at my first appointment (which took 3 hours) that I needed to call the dress company and get a new one because it was too big- isn't that the point of alterations? Entire experience was dreadful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store manager was very nice and apologetic and worked with me to attempt a partial refund but everything leading up to the final visit was painful, and as a bride, stress that you should not have to deal with.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't find out until I showed up for my "final visit" that the dress wasn't touched or ready after having the same thing happening at my 2ND appointment a month earlier. I have the hardest time finding any article of clothing that even remotely fits me off the rack. I'm, for better or worse, MUCH smaller than a standard men's XS or even XXS at times. Pants are relatively easy to alter, I can go to almost any dry cleaners and have them hem them to my liking. Wool coats, on the other hand, are much more difficult because, for my case, the shoulders can't easily be brought in. I've resulted to wearing coats that didn't fit me for years until a friend of mine introduced to me alteration specialists. Bibi and team worked magic on my wool coat by "recutting" it and hand-stitching it back together to match the original look. I was able to pick it up within a week and I can't believe how perfectly it fits me now. I'll definitely be back! This definitely unlocks so many possibilities. read more

This is my second Alts location that I've decided to try. I originally visited the Brooklyn Heights location and was not satisfied with the visit. However, I still wanted to give Alts a try. I decided to visit the Tribeca location to have a dress altered and I was not disappointed! My expectations were exceeded. The moment I walked in Cambria made me feel very welcomed and also offered me a water (if needed) She was very kind! Next, I met the amazinggggg Bibi! She took care of all my needs and some!! She made it easy to trust her judgment and she made the experience very fun!! My dress was a bit complex, but Bibi was professional, honest, fun, super friendly, and just amazing vibes all around! Also, let's talk about the turn around time for the alterations? Very efficient!! Cost? Manageable, especially when the staff has their customer needs + best interests in mind. My fiancé and I were booked for pre wedding photos with Petronella Photography. On the day of the shoot we arrived to Brooklyn Heights to begin shooting. The moment we pulled up to the shoot, my skirt ripped. Though in a panic and completely mortified - we still tried to make it work and opted to hide the rip in the ruffles of the dress - which seemed to work until the zipper to the skirt completely broke. At that point I just knew the shoot was over. I knew there was no way that we would be able to move forward with our day. I had a breakdown. I literally cried my eyes out for a good 5 minutes. The worse thing that could possible happen on that day - happened! I needed a few minutes to myself. While I cried my eyes one in the car - my fiancé and wedding photographer Petronella got to work - they started to research a tailor in the area. They found 2 tailors - the first one sounded a bit hesitant and wasn't sure he could complete the task at hand. The second, which ended up being alteration specialist sounded like he was up for the challenge. He willingly said to bring the skirt asap and he'll have it back within an hour. So across the bridge we go to the Tribeca location - which was about 15 minutes from Brooklyn heights. Once we got there I opted to stay in the car because I just didn't want to be let down. Hubby + Petronella took the skirt upstairs and Humberto got to work right away. We decide to go get something to eat because if anyone says the wait is an hour in NYC you can almost be certain that the wait will be 2 hours. Humberto called us back in 40 mins! Wow! Once we got back to the Tribeca location I decided to go upstairs. Humberto fixed the rip and added a new and improved great quality zipper. He also helped me get dressed. Once we left, we went back across the bridge to Brooklyn and were able to still get the shoot Done. And right after our shoot - our family and friends surprised us with a wedding shower. Imagine showing up to your wedding shower with a ripped skirt, broken zipper, hips and butt showing! The entire staff at alternation specialist was kind and sincere. They made me feel like they truly cared about the outcome of my day. An hour before I was crying my eyes out at the thought of not before able to do the shoot. Now, I wanted to cry because these people were so kind and they made my crisis a priority! Alteration specialist - I can't thank you enough. I'm so happy to have found you! Five stars for Alts Tribeca. I had two designer gowns that needed altering and I was pretty nervous about where to take them. After reading the rave reviews, I decided to come to Alts Tribeca for the one and only Bibi. The first gown was a slinky YSL dress made of jersey that needed to be taken in on the sides. The gown had boning/ruching along one side so this had to be taken out and re-done completely with the closer fit. I was very worried since this was kind of a full-on surgery to the dress and I didn't know if the jersey material could take it. But Bibi was 100 percent confident she could do it and that put me at ease from the start. When I picked up the dress, it fit great and looked brand new. I was so happy. The other dress was a silk chiffon Alexander McQueen with beautiful draping and a small train. Only problem was that it was way too long. Bibi was able to eye it and know just how much to hem it so that I wouldn't trip on it but it still had that long elegant look that covers the shoes/almost grazes the floor. She got down on the ground and pinned the dress every few inches all around the circle at the bottom. It was painstaking work just to pin it and I know it took many hours to hem the silk chiffon just right. It was pricey, to be certain, but the end result was absolutely perfect. She nailed it!!!! All in all, I was thrilled with the service I received and utterly relieved that neither of the dresses got messed up. Having visited a few of the other Alts locations, I can confidently say that the Tribeca one is my absolute favorite and the only place I will go from now on. You can TRUST them!!!
