Alts is my go to place to get alterations. They have been my favorite place in the city to go fixing my blazers, tailoring my dresses and making my vintage finds look more personal. Mika is excellent with her fast service, recommendations for tailoring and how honest she is with how things look on me. I prefer that! Zade Gjuta at Alts on the UWS is the best tailor I've ever worked with! I trusted her to do intricate tailoring on two outfits I wore to weddings over the summer. One was an evening gown and the other was a highly decorative shalwar kameez for a South Asian wedding. The shalwar kameez could only be tailored by hand and required a lot of skill to get it perfect. Zade did a fantastic job! I couldn't have asked for more. Yes, Alts is expensive but it's the only place I trust for such important event outfits. read more

The place is closed for lunch from 2-3pm daily but that is not listed in their website. There were 4 of us waiting to be buzzed it, some of whom had appointments. When I called at 2:56pm to ask their hours, the woman who answered then told me they are closed from 2-3pm and proceeded to ask me what we all needed to get done (I.e., did we have appointments, what items needed to be tailored, etc.). I didn't know the other 3 people waiting and fine if they are closed for lunch but post it on the website. Once I was finally upstairs, I asked how much the starting price was to hem a pair of pants one inch. The woman up front couldn't answer the question, said there was a range. I asked what the range was. She still couldn't answer it. She said it depended and I said it was hemming a standard pair of pants one inch. She still couldn't answer and I didn't want to make an appointment without knowing the price. She finally said $55 was the starting price but then said it could be more or less once I met with the tailor. I left, she was rude. To not be able to answer a basic pricing question seemed like they were trying to cheat their customers. I could understood if she couldn't quote a price if I asked about doing something complicated to a dress, but I said "one inch hemming on a standard pair of pants". read more

As I stepped into my own gown that I brought in to be altered, I couldn't help but feel like Cinderella in that pivotal moment, and Elena Balaj, was my very own fairy godmother. To say that I was satisfied with her work is a complete understatement. My gown was altered so impeccably, it felt like it had always been so perfectly fitted to me. You must see Parvin! She worked on a very intricate bridal dress for me that required tons of work by hand. She was so thorough and friendly, and worked with me to make adjustments I was happy with. The end result exceeded my expectations tenfold, and the turnaround was so fast! During my pick-up appointment, another customer even left her dressing room to see my dress, saying unpromptedly that it looked amazing and "fit me perfectly," which was entirely thanks to Parvin since it needed adjustments all over when I first brought it in. She also altered two skirts for my honeymoon, which look genuinely untouched in the best way possible. Truly so kind and professional and amazing at what she does. read more

Outstanding service! The seamstress/tailor are very professional and amazing in providing you the best service. They have 6+ years of experiences. My appointment consist of 3 separate visits. The first visit is a consultation, than a trial fitting, and than a final fitting. They can work around your schedule if you have a busy work agenda or expedite your outfit if you need it in a week. Alteration Specialist perfected my beautiful embroidered lace gown. For being a very petite person, finding a proper fitting dress was very hard. Luckily, the seamstress/tailor was able to fit everything together flawlessly for my anniversary dress. I will be going back to have them alternate my next outfit. Do not take jeans here. Absolute disaster in doing anything more that simple hemming. Nearly $500 in alterations on 4 pairs of jeans. I have never seen anything like this - photo attached, but crooked belt loops, messy stitching and no bother to match thread color to existing rise seam. Believe most of the female customers I saw had dresses being altered, but I can't review for that. After a second fitting/fix when I spoke to the manager - I accepted a second set of alterations rather than a refund. She actually laughed in my face as I was describing why I was unhappy with the work. I gave up and just consider this an expensive lesson. Will look for personal/word of mouth referrals for future needs. read more
