Overcoat sleeves shorted to preference
Richard H.

LNC tailor is a Chinatown OG. The original owners granddaughter Jess now runs the store. She and her team are a NYC gem. Trustworthy classic tailoring for men's suits is hard to find, and cherry on top, the deals here are fair. Good value for solid quality. That's why I keep coming back to LNC after all these years, since before Covid. Same great service and quality work. I recently went back to LNC to get a winter coat sleeves shortened. Jess was patient in listening to what I was looking for and even gave recommendations to better suit my body, giving the piece overall a more balanced look. If you've been, you know the little wait time is due to small team but the results are worth it. You're encouraged to try the piece again on site during pick up. Exactly the way I intended. The final product looks polished and finished. Fits like a glove. Thank you LNC! TIL: LNC started 45 years ago by making suits for Ronald Reagan and have helped generations of professionals across the city look sharp! They also skilled in dresses, and even offer custom pieces and suits as well. Tbd yet to try.

John Elliott shorts, got them hemmed, stitching very precise and professional (looks exactly like when I bought them, just an inch shorter)

LNC Tailor Shop has been a part of the Chinatown community for 44 years. Jess, the current owner, is the 3rd generation of her family to run this business, having learned her craft from her grandfather, the original founder and a master tailor from Hong Kong. Note: they recently relocated after several decades on Bayard St a couple blocks away to the 2nd floor of 199 Canal St (just to the left of Tiger Sugar). LNC does incredibly high quality work at fair prices, with quick turnaround times. I've mostly needed alterations for casual shirts and pants, but every time I've come into the shop, there's someone else picking up or being measured for their wedding or a formal event - so you can really trust Jess with anything. Jess takes her time pinning each customer even if there's a line - it really has that old-school personalized service feel - and she even opened the shop on one of her days off when I called in a panic realizing I needed to pick up one of my garments day-of. Truly going above and beyond, and she's just a lovely person and great to talk to as well! I'm undoubtedly going to be a regular customer here and I can wholeheartedly recommend LNC to anyone who needs alterations or tailoring of any kind.

They did such a great job! It was hard to find a tailor that works with sequins and they did a fantastic job quickly. Everyone that works there is super friendly and helpful. Can't wait to bring back half my closet! Also, they are cash only.

LNC took care of my favorite jeans they are friendly. The repair was free itself and I tipped the tailor. Thanks

Run Don't walk to LNC! The charming nature of the OG location on Mott is strong here at their new canal street location. Jess is so funny and makes you feel at ease. She spent a lot of time going through options with my suits and Alice was kind enough to do a quick fix on my zipper that otherwise fit ok so I could take back home. They are incredibly honest and works with you on pricing, what works and what doesn't work with the alterations and what looks good. Other tailors I've been to tries to make you do alterations to drive up the cost - complete opposite here. The quality of the work is hands down the best in the City! Hope you enjoy the process working with them even half as much as I did!

We didn't know if it would be possible to loosen the fit but it was no match for Jess and Alice's expertise.

Unfortunately I had a very poor experience here and will not be back…read more For starters you have to enter a fabric shop and descend the stairs in the back of the shop to get to where they do the alterations. The place to change was simply a thin black fabric sheet that was nearly see through strung up next to the water heater/furnace. Needless to say this made me very weary of changing knowing there were many men in the shop just on the other side of the curtain. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be hemmed and brought it in without bothering to bring the high heels I intended to wear with it because I was experiencing some foot swelling and they wouldn't have fit my foot at the time to begin with. I immediately addressed this with the person marking the dress and told them my heels were about 4 inches high so to please add on an additional 3- 3 1/2 inches to the height indicated so the dress would still be floor length when I wear the heels. The communication between myself and the person marking the dress was extremely clear and there were even written notes indicating the extra length to be kept on the dress. I was surprised by the price for the hemming, but they justified the dress was 3 layers and I had to pay prior to them doing the work and they even asked for a tip upfront too! I left the shop confident everything would turn out as expected, as I assumed the high price would guarantee a job well done. Within a week the dress was ready for pickup and I check the seems before leaving, but do not bother trying on the dress as I trusted they did exactly as we had agreed upon. The seems did not look very nice to me, a touch sloppy and wasn't completely straight, but at the end of the day I knew no one else would be looking closely so I accepted the dress and left. I tried on the dress at home only to find out it was even shorter than where the markings were during the fitting! Even flat-footed without any shoes on, the dress did not touch the ground. It was a disaster once I put my intended high heels on and it was the equivalent of high-waters but with a dress. In a panic I text or email them and even provide photos. They say I could bring it back, but by that point I only had a few days before the wedding and even if they let out the seems, one inch of fabric was not enough when it was missing at least 3 inches! They did go so far as to offering to purchase me another dress and to redo the hemming which I do think was above and beyond in attempting to make it right, but the dress was a special order color and there was no way to get another one in time. I finally spoke to the bride who just didn't want to risk the dress getting more messed up and asked to keep it as-is and the final resolution I received from the business was just a vague offer to discount a future service, no offer to even partially refund me for the poor work that had already been paid for. I ended up having to wear some much lower shoes and just bend my legs a bit in the photos so my dress looked the same length as the other bridesmaids. Overall my experience here was poor and I wouldn't want to risk another special occasion garment coming out not as expected. With so many other shops offering alterations in the area for a similar or cheaper price point I would choose another place.

When I dropped my things off, I was told it would be ready and given a range of days to pick it up. I went by the last day in the pickup range, and not everything was ready yet. I grabbed the stuff that was and asked when my last article would be ready. They again gave me a pickup date. I came by on the second pickup date and the suit was still not ready. I was never notified that the timeframe had changed or anything, they just let me show up and wasted my time twice in a row.

This was off just having a terrible experience with some shirts getting butchered by the local dry cleaner, so I wanted a more professional take. I walked in completely clueless on a whim, tactlessly not making an appointment, and even though it was Juan's lunchbreak he still immediately took the time to see me and work with me. That said... let the man eat. Don't interrupt his break! I still feel bad about it!!! About the tailoring: Juan is just That Dude. He WILL make you look better and point out ways to make the clothes better compliment your body that others don't even know about. The pricing felt extremely fair and not at all like I was being overcharged for the amount and quality of work being done. Not only that, Juan did me a solid by getting the alterations done in-time with a big move out of state. Last minute, off of a random walk-in, and brother still treated me like I was a long time regular. And matter of fact, even though I'm going to be living down south I WILL still be getting my nicest clothing tailored by Juan. That's what his work is worth to me. 10/10 will be making sure I get my nephews' first suits tailored by him too

Head tailor Juan Cuello is exceptionally skilled and relentlessly professional--he simply won't stop until the fit is perfect. Over the past six years, I've brought him around a dozen off-the-rack suits, and he has consistently transformed them to look and feel like high-end made-to-measure pieces. The difference in drape, balance, and overall silhouette is remarkable. I've used other tailors for alterations, but none come close to Juan's level of precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. He takes real pride in his work, and it shows in every finished garment. Juan is truly one of a kind.
