Took a bridesmaid dress here to get hemmed. It was two layers but the lady said I would only really need to do the outer tulle part because the inner satin part wasn't touching the ground. I appreciated that because I feel like most places would try to get me to do both so they could get more money. The two layers would have been $65 but just the tulle cost $25. Not really sure if it's a fair price since it's the first time I'm getting a bridesmaids dress hemmed. But I noticed that the handiwork was meh. The bottom where she cut it was jaggedy so if she was just going to cut it, I could have probably done it myself. As for timing, I brought it in on Monday 9/9. I asked when it could be available, to which she responded by asking me when the wedding was. I told her 9/22 and she said it would be available the Friday before. That seemed really close to the wedding date so I asked if it could be any earlier and she said the Thursday before. Ok fine. In the days after I dropped it off, I started thinking I wanted the dress earlier so I could try it on with everything and still have enough time to make some last minute tweaks if I really needed to. So I called later in the week and asked if they could have it ready by Monday. I mean it was just hemming after all. It shouldn't take two weeks. They told me they couldn't find the dress right now but sure it'll be available my Monday. Uhh...okay, that was a little concerning...thankfully it was available when I went on Monday. Apparently they told me to bring cash but I forgot to do this and I saw they had the iPad for credit cards. Then they said dry cleaning is for credit cards and alterations are cash only but they'll make an exception this time. That makes no sense whatsoever but okay. Definitely will be going elsewhere for my tailoring needs next time. Plus this place is super out of the way. It's about an 18-minute walk from the path station. read more

Brought in a pair of $100 jeans to be hemmed and waist taken in. I know taking in the waist of jeans is tricky, but I've had it done before with no problems. Cost was $30. Get them home, the seam and belt loop is crooked !!!!! Hope I can maybe get the belt loop fixed, but unlikely all of it can be fixed. A shame, so obvious, it's right on the rear for all to see!! Most of the time, when I need a dry cleaners, it's because I am too afraid to wash my favorite pieces on my own. Other times it is because the label says 'dry clean only'. And then other times it's because your boyfriend got sick in the middle of the night and threw up on your beloved floor length coat. (Only me???) With any of the above scenarios, I've trusted VIP and am pretty sure I always will. Quick turn around, kind service and great care put into your clothes. That's literally all you can hope for when you are dropping off your favorite pieces. It's a small shop but they make the most of it with a small dressing room and tables with flower outside. I love those little touches. I think that is when you can tell that owners really care about their customers and take pride in their business. I've used them for long winter coats to my favorite dress pants. I've also had some jeans patched when they were very close to having to be thrown away. Turn around for all of my services was usually a few days and if there are any stains, they've magically vanished when I get my pieces back. Next time my boyfriend get's sick directly at my closet I will be coming right back to VIP. I haven't needed their tailoring service yet but will trust them when I do. read more

I am so disappointed in how the service here has declined. I have brought many dresses here to be altered and have always had great experiences, so I trusted them to alter an important dress for me. I was told it was an extremely difficult job, and so the price was very very high. I went to pick up my dress at the scheduled time a week after bringing it in and it was not done. It was only hemmed but the other alterations we discussed were not complete. I was told to come back in a few hours so they could finish. I requested a few other tweaks since they were going to continue working on it anyway, and they absolutely refused to make the alterations I requested claiming they were not possible. Fine. So I went back a few hours later to pick up the dress, and it was "complete" but I could tell it was hastily done and it looked wonky. I was so upset but after arguing with them all day, crying, and going back and forth multiple times I could not deal with them anymore. I was not offered any discount for their poor job or my inconvenience. I left and immediately brought the dress elsewhere to be altered. Not only did another business have to redo all the alterations that VIP Cleaners did, but they were also able to do the additional alterations I requested. And it was half the price. I would never go back to VIP. Horrible experience. Overpriced, nasty, and poor work. read more

VIP Tailoring is the best dry cleaner and tailor I've ever worked with. Not only are they more reasonably priced than the competition for alterations, they do much more high quality work. I work in fashion and know good craftsmanship when I see it; I've worked with tailors in NYC and abroad. In the two years I've been in Hoboken, I've been extremely pleased with all the work I've taken to VIP. I've probably taken over 30 pieces to them to be altered at this point, so they have become practically family (I had a recent weight flunctuation which made all my closet not fit overnight, and I was too attached to many to get rid of them). They are prompt, friendly, do a great job of listening even when I have odd requests. They have altered some of my dresses so much they have practically made me couture pieces! They are also very honest; when I ask for work that is not feasible (like enlarging a far too tiny blazer), they tell you outright and give very reasonable quotes. I was a repeat customer but they will no longer be getting my business. I went in for a tailoring job and the tailor was very uptight and acted as if the simplest request was such a hassle. She acted as though it was my job to make sure she is happy rather than her demonstrating basic customer service to make customer is comfortable. I was in no way acting rude. She just perceives the simplest questions as complaints. Not very pleasant to interact with. Once everything was fitted for tailoring and I was ready to pay, I was a bit shocked by the price tag for a place that I didn't seem high end. I was still fine to go ahead with it but she told me to go elsewhere. Very hypocritical to do given in previous poor review they said they would never tell their clients to go elsewhere. I've tried a number of different tailors in Hoboken (there are a ton) but I've finally found my go-to option in VIP Cleaners; I love the quality of the work, and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I've taken a number of items to them to have tailored and found them to be super helpful, professional, and courteous. It's a mom-and-pop store, and they've been in the business for decades (they've been at this location for about 9 years apparently). They were really thorough and detailed in explaining the work that needed to be done; I had a slightly more complicated alteration needed and and they were great with explaining my options and what I needed or didn't need in terms of alterations. In terms of cost, I found them to be on-par or slightly cheaper in some cases (at least for tailoring) than their competitors. Where they really shine is their customer service; the owners are super nice and seem to know all of their customers on a first-name basis. They really go above and beyond to make sure you're happy with your clothing after you bring it to them. After I tried on the altered clothing for the first time, I realized that I wanted something slightly different and they were really accommodating with my request and didn't charge extra even though it required extra time on their part. tl;dr, super friendly, helpful, honest, fairly priced, and ORGANIZED (which is not always a given when dealing with tailors/cleaners). I have been going to VIP since it first opened 10 years ago. This place is fantastic! Regardless of the ask, whether it's removing difficult stains or doing alterations, I am always happy with the result! The clothes are always cleaned well. The alterations are phenomenal - everything from basic patching of holes, fixing hems and reconstructing an entire dress is done cleanly, professionally and reasonably (priced). Comparable to work I have gotten done in the City, but at a fraction of the cost. The owners manage your expectations of what can and can't be done and provide you with options, each with its associated cost. You choose what fits your budget. They somehow thought it was a good idea to use safety pins to attach my cocktail dress to a hanger. Not only did my dress have holes in it after that, it also had a mysterious stain that was not there when dropped off. I would not suggest taking any dress of value here. read more

I am a very particular person when it comes to tailoring. I am from Korea, where the standard of tailoring is very high. Therefore, i was shocked from the results of my jeans from the first store I walked into in Edgewater. The tailoring was awful. I had thought about donating the jeans, but decided to search yelp and get a second opinion from a high-rated tailor. This how I came across VIP Tailoring. Although it was somewhat far from where I live (West New York), I decided to give it a shot. What the heck, I was going to donate the jeans anyways.
