I've been here before, back in February 2026 to have a bridesmaid dress altered and they did a wonderful job, so I didn't hesitate to return. Unfortunately, my experience this time was completely different. I brought in a simple double layered dress that only needed to be hemmed and was quoted $140, more than the dress itself! I was told that because it had two layers, it was essentially like "hemming two dresses." At $70 a layer, I guess every layer counts. I then asked about simply taking in the waist of a pair of jeans. I was initially quoted $25, but after looking at them again, I was told there was suddenly "a lot more work" involved and that I had been quoted incorrectly. At that point, I took both items and left. I went to another alterations shop and was quoted under $100 for BOTH the dress and the jeans. It seems management may have changed since my last visit, which is unfortunate because I was previously very happy with their work. Hopefully the pricing doesn't continue in this direction, because $140 to hem a simple dress is pretty hard to justify. read more

I have been coming here for over 5 years and have had many bridesmaid dresses altered here, including double-lined dresses. Historically, I was charged around $85-$100 for this type of alteration, so I was extremely surprised by my experience today. I also want to mention that I have always loved the tailor here. She is incredibly precise, detailed, and fair priced. I have always been happy with her work, and she is a big reason I continued coming back over the years. The tailor I have always used was still working here, but it appears the business is now under new management. I was quoted $180 to hem a double-lined dress and $210 for a dress with three layers. That is an enormous increase from what I have paid for essentially the same service over the years. I politely declined and took my dresses to another dry cleaner up the street (still in Hoboken). They charged me $85 for the double-lined dress and $125 for the three-layer dress - which was much more in line with what I have historically paid. I completely understand that prices increase and that businesses have to adjust their pricing, but these prices felt excessive, especially given my long history as a customer and the fact that I was able to get the exact same alterations done elsewhere for significantly less. Very disappointing to see such a drastic change at a place I had trusted for years. I will not be coming back. read more

I moved here a year ago, looking for a new tailor and cleaner. Great place and highly recommend!

Great work done and Helena is so sweet! Thanks again. Must visit for tailor needs. Great value.

Great service and attention to detail for everything from tailoring to cleaning. The owners are very kind and always have a welcoming spirit

The tailor, Helena, is the sweetest! She's become my go-to tailor this year, as I've had a lot of formal wear that needed tailoring for my wedding events / weddings I'm a bridesmaid in. She's very accommodating and the items are always ready on-time. I've never used their dry cleaning services but plan to in the future. read more

I had a bridesmaid dress tailored here, and it looked amazing! I also had some pregnancy pants shortened for me while I waited a few years ago so I really appreciate their customer service and they are excellent! I bring ally tailoring items here hands down and also do dry cleaning here when I can. Highly recommended. read more

Took a bridesmaid dress here to get hemmed. It was two layers but the lady said I would only really need to do the outer tulle part because the inner satin part wasn't touching the ground. I appreciated that because I feel like most places would try to get me to do both so they could get more money. The two layers would have been $65 but just the tulle cost $25. Not really sure if it's a fair price since it's the first time I'm getting a bridesmaids dress hemmed. But I noticed that the handiwork was meh. The bottom where she cut it was jaggedy so if she was just going to cut it, I could have probably done it myself. As for timing, I brought it in on Monday 9/9. I asked when it could be available, to which she responded by asking me when the wedding was. I told her 9/22 and she said it would be available the Friday before. That seemed really close to the wedding date so I asked if it could be any earlier and she said the Thursday before. Ok fine. In the days after I dropped it off, I started thinking I wanted the dress earlier so I could try it on with everything and still have enough time to make some last minute tweaks if I really needed to. So I called later in the week and asked if they could have it ready by Monday. I mean it was just hemming after all. It shouldn't take two weeks. They told me they couldn't find the dress right now but sure it'll be available my Monday. Uhh...okay, that was a little concerning...thankfully it was available when I went on Monday. Apparently they told me to bring cash but I forgot to do this and I saw they had the iPad for credit cards. Then they said dry cleaning is for credit cards and alterations are cash only but they'll make an exception this time. That makes no sense whatsoever but okay. Definitely will be going elsewhere for my tailoring needs next time. Plus this place is super out of the way. It's about an 18-minute walk from the path station. read more

This is my son's go to place for tailoring. Amazing work and Helene is amazing. Totally satisfied.

Efficient, convenient location, and amazing customer service! Look no further for a great dry cleaner. I recently took the wedding dress I rented to be cleaned and it had a red wine stain. I was terrified that it wouldn't come out but they did it! The stain is gone and the dress looks amazing!! It was done for a reasonable price and in a very reasonable timeframe. They have a faithful customer forever in me! read more

I had two pairs of wide legged trousers hemmed here and I would definitely recommend! The woman working both times I was in the store was so lovely and kind, and ensured I was happy with the final product. The price was very reasonable as well. This will be my new go-to tailor in Hoboken! read more

Brought in a pair of $100 jeans to be hemmed and waist taken in. I know taking in the waist of jeans is tricky, but I've had it done before with no problems. Cost was $30. Get them home, the seam and belt loop is crooked !!!!! Hope I can maybe get the belt loop fixed, but unlikely all of it can be fixed. A shame, so obvious, it's right on the rear for all to see!! Stars for friendliness. read more

VIP Cleaners & Tailoring - Crooked seams!!! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

Needed the shoulders on my dress taken in so the top fit and it's perfect now! Great pricing for the job done, highly recommend.

Most of the time, when I need a dry cleaners, it's because I am too afraid to wash my favorite pieces on my own. Other times it is because the label says 'dry clean only'. And then other times it's because your boyfriend got sick in the middle of the night and threw up on your beloved floor length coat. (Only me???) With any of the above scenarios, I've trusted VIP and am pretty sure I always will. Quick turn around, kind service and great care put into your clothes. That's literally all you can hope for when you are dropping off your favorite pieces. It's a small shop but they make the most of it with a small dressing room and tables with flower outside. I love those little touches. I think that is when you can tell that owners really care about their customers and take pride in their business. I've used them for long winter coats to my favorite dress pants. I've also had some jeans patched when they were very close to having to be thrown away. Turn around for all of my services was usually a few days and if there are any stains, they've magically vanished when I get my pieces back. Next time my boyfriend get's sick directly at my closet I will be coming right back to VIP. I haven't needed their tailoring service yet but will trust them when I do. read more

Awesome service. Friendly and reliable people. Would 100% recommend for dry cleaning and tailoring needs.

I am so disappointed in how the service here has declined. I have brought many dresses here to be altered and have always had great experiences, so I trusted them to alter an important dress for me. I was told it was an extremely difficult job, and so the price was very very high. I went to pick up my dress at the scheduled time a week after bringing it in and it was not done. It was only hemmed but the other alterations we discussed were not complete. I was told to come back in a few hours so they could finish. I requested a few other tweaks since they were going to continue working on it anyway, and they absolutely refused to make the alterations I requested claiming they were not possible. Fine. So I went back a few hours later to pick up the dress, and it was "complete" but I could tell it was hastily done and it looked wonky. I was so upset but after arguing with them all day, crying, and going back and forth multiple times I could not deal with them anymore. I was not offered any discount for their poor job or my inconvenience. I left and immediately brought the dress elsewhere to be altered. Not only did another business have to redo all the alterations that VIP Cleaners did, but they were also able to do the additional alterations I requested. And it was half the price. I would never go back to VIP. Horrible experience. Overpriced, nasty, and poor work. read more

VIP Tailoring is the best dry cleaner and tailor I've ever worked with. Not only are they more reasonably priced than the competition for alterations, they do much more high quality work. I work in fashion and know good craftsmanship when I see it; I've worked with tailors in NYC and abroad. In the two years I've been in Hoboken, I've been extremely pleased with all the work I've taken to VIP. I've probably taken over 30 pieces to them to be altered at this point, so they have become practically family (I had a recent weight flunctuation which made all my closet not fit overnight, and I was too attached to many to get rid of them). They are prompt, friendly, do a great job of listening even when I have odd requests. They have altered some of my dresses so much they have practically made me couture pieces! They are also very honest; when I ask for work that is not feasible (like enlarging a far too tiny blazer), they tell you outright and give very reasonable quotes. I could not recommend them more highly!! read more

So pleased with two dresses I brought to get altered. They now fit like a glove and I get compliments on both whenever I wear them. Pricing and turnaround are reasonable. read more

Great place to get alterations done. I had 3 of my pants altered here to perfection, would highly recommend VIP Tailoring!

I'm obsessed with this place! I come from a small town so when I find a business that treats you like a human in the metro area, I really appreciate it. My boyfriend gets ALL his suits tailored here. We've spent hundreds on reconstructing them to him perfectly. We would have paid so much more at other places. Probably 5-7 suits done by Helena. Highly recommend this place for all your needs! read more

I brought my dress in on halloween morning at 9am and she was done altering it by 1pm! Amazing and sweet owners + very nice work! I will definitely be coming back and bringing my other clothes! read more

I was a repeat customer but they will no longer be getting my business. I went in for a tailoring job and the tailor was very uptight and acted as if the simplest request was such a hassle. She acted as though it was my job to make sure she is happy rather than her demonstrating basic customer service to make customer is comfortable. I was in no way acting rude. She just perceives the simplest questions as complaints. Not very pleasant to interact with. Once everything was fitted for tailoring and I was ready to pay, I was a bit shocked by the price tag for a place that I didn't seem high end. I was still fine to go ahead with it but she told me to go elsewhere. Very hypocritical to do given in previous poor review they said they would never tell their clients to go elsewhere. Unfortunate for them to lose business like this. read more

I've tried a number of different tailors in Hoboken (there are a ton) but I've finally found my go-to option in VIP Cleaners; I love the quality of the work, and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I've taken a number of items to them to have tailored and found them to be super helpful, professional, and courteous. It's a mom-and-pop store, and they've been in the business for decades (they've been at this location for about 9 years apparently). They were really thorough and detailed in explaining the work that needed to be done; I had a slightly more complicated alteration needed and and they were great with explaining my options and what I needed or didn't need in terms of alterations. In terms of cost, I found them to be on-par or slightly cheaper in some cases (at least for tailoring) than their competitors. Where they really shine is their customer service; the owners are super nice and seem to know all of their customers on a first-name basis. They really go above and beyond to make sure you're happy with your clothing after you bring it to them. After I tried on the altered clothing for the first time, I realized that I wanted something slightly different and they were really accommodating with my request and didn't charge extra even though it required extra time on their part. tl;dr, super friendly, helpful, honest, fairly priced, and ORGANIZED (which is not always a given when dealing with tailors/cleaners). I will be taking all of my dry cleaning and tailoring business here from now on! read more

I needed some pants altered for a wedding. Went in and was measured in about 10 min. Picked up pants 5 days later. Price was $20 and the length was perfect. read more

This was my second time going here for dress alterations. My wedding got postponed to next year so I decided to plan a small last minute elopement and bought a dress very last minute. The seamstress was very kind and helpful and assured me she would have it done in time for the wedding. I picked it up today and she did an excellent job. Will continue to go back for alterations! read more

The folks at VIP believe in friendly service, good workmanship, and fair pricing. I have been using them for a couple of months, and so far I have not been disappointed. After a few horrendous experiences with other cleaners in the area, I have finally found a place that actually takes pride in their work, and has the knowledge, expertise, and work ethic to provide a great experience. They have handled everything that I have brought them, delicate sweaters, dresses, silk and linen shirts, as well as standard dress shirts and slacks, properly. Sweaters were folded properly, not hung like other dry cleaners, stains were removed, and so far (knock on wood) nothing has been damaged. The owners are always there to greet you with a smile. Definitely the place to go if you need a cleaners in Hoboken or Jersey City. read more

VIP Cleaners & Tailoring - Helena is the best!!! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Hoboken, New Jersey

Let's face it, most dry cleaners in Hoboken offer pretty much the same Dry Cleaning Service. They send out your clothes to a big Dry Cleaner and it comes back a few days later clean & pressed. What truly matters is who runs the store. VIP Dry Cleaning is owned and operated by great people. They definitely care about you and your clothes. Excellent Dry Cleaners. Excellent Tailors. Excellent People. If you live around this dry cleaners, you should go there. Highly Recommended. read more

I have been going to VIP since it first opened 10 years ago. This place is fantastic! Regardless of the ask, whether it's removing difficult stains or doing alterations, I am always happy with the result! The clothes are always cleaned well. The alterations are phenomenal - everything from basic patching of holes, fixing hems and reconstructing an entire dress is done cleanly, professionally and reasonably (priced). Comparable to work I have gotten done in the City, but at a fraction of the cost. The owners manage your expectations of what can and can't be done and provide you with options, each with its associated cost. You choose what fits your budget. This is a place definitely worth coming to and building a relationship with - a hidden gem in the back of the Mile Square! read more

Helen is the best ! Always willing to go above and beyond to make a last min repair .

I was here with a new suit two years ago. High quality tailoring as well as quick turnaround.

They are the best. Priced well and will do any type of tailoring needed. I have had curtains altered twice, once to sew on blackout to the curtain and once to sew them together. Had clothes altered and normal dry cleaning. Never had an issue and they always are on time! read more

Do not recommend the tailor!!!!!! Don't go there!! Really Low detail oriented, do not want to take the fully responsibility and blame on you and your body type. They don't check it after they done the work. Incredible ugly marks they left but they did not realize. And telling you, you should go to somewhere else. And keep sighing if you have questions about their work. What's that? Will never come back again. I don't know how they can have those reviews. Please go somewhere else people! Just like what they tell me!!!!! read more

The owners are absolutely lovely! There are dry cleaners on every street in Hoboken and I have tried many over the course of 11 years but after finding VIP I would never go anywhere else. Not only am I in there at least once a week and have never gotten anything but perfect results, I also have a tendency to ask for rush on certain things and to have last minute alterations needed in a hurry. They have never said no to me and always come through with shining colors. Being greeted with big smiles and by your name when you walk into a store, is a custom that not many businesses practice anymore - but VIP always does! read more
