Today is the week before college students need to move out of SFSU and this is the closest location. It's hours listed ON THIER BUILDING, yelp, google, and website state there would be someone in office today. There were 4 families outside trying to move their stuff in with no staff in sight. Thankfully, the door is WIDE OPEN when we arrive. We allow ourselves in with the other families (having no clue if they should be allowed to be there) and made our way to the unit and SOMEONES LOOSE SOILED ITEMS are in there. Another person literally had crack pipes in his unit. This business is a scam. There is no one to get a hold of, there is no emergency number, there is NO security, and no sense to be found. I would like for someone to get a hold of me by 5/18 via yelp messaging and give me and my mother and sister an apology. TODAY Tuesday, March 24, 2026 Delinquent Notice $188 for 3/17/26-4/16/26. Called 415-333-3192. We used 19th Ave storage for years. In the last few weeks the company transitioned from iStorage to Public Storage. Haven't accessed our unit in this year. Received an email saying our unit needs to be secured. Turned out our lock was cut and some of the items stolen. Nothing super valuable, mostly keepsakes and collectables. Public Storage said it happened before the take over and referred us to the outgoing insurance program. They could not comment how many units at the location were affected. They didn't file police report. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE!! You think it's so convenient as they are right by SF State for Dorm summer storage. We rented via phone, paid, and got here. No one was here during business hours and you can't contact them!! You have to call a general number, and it is not local. The door was wide open, it smells like death there's garbage all over the front lobby, and we saw several renters walking around on their phone because everything was effed up. Then I'm pretty sure that I almost got abducted or shoved into a vacant storage by some strange man. The locker they assigned to us was unlocked in full of unsavory looking stuff. We talked to another young man who will suffer the same fate. He said that there was a crack pipe in his!! now we are canceling our credit card because I have no faith in this business. Go to U-Haul. It's a little bit more expensive, but you probably won't get murdered and shoved inside an empty locker. Oh, and there's only three parking places in front. read more

This istorage is completely a scam. They fraudulently said first month free but took my $29 administration fees. Few days ago my friends also suggested me this storage,when I signed up and paid for it, it was showing the renting process is quick and easy with no hassle. I signed up pretty quickly and easy,thinking maybe this storage is legit and easy for my college material storage use. It worked for a few days, after 4 days later, manager Kayla forcefully locked my access to the storage. I tried calling and waiting outside of the office, nobody was willing to help. I left a message and voicemail for them to call back. After they called me back, Kayla fraudulently asking my ID saying they wanted to verify my identity. I had provided them my phone number and my account information at the time of my rental and in my contract. Also at that time my account was active and I have no overdue balance at all. I asked her why she wanted my ID and locked me out without informing me and reasonable explanation. she didn't know exactly how to respond to that and didn't have a reasonable explanation for that at all. I am thinking they must have been using these fake excuses to scam people and take the money from them and then lock them out,forcing them to pay more money and kick them out. This storage is definitely a scam.At first they're saying their price is low and affordable, but after a while, they start charging extra money from you and they will throw your stuff out and lock you out. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I rented a unit from this place because I was on a budget at the time and this place was right around the corner from where I used to be. Management is there is laughable. There is no management. The way my friend and I bumped into 3 people who not only didn't have a unit in this facility but had the MANAGER'S ACCESS CODE to get into any of the "secured" rooms that held all these units is baffling. You will not be able to get in contact with anyone on management unless you're really really lucky. My boyfriend and I rented a unit from here and about a week and a half into renting it we had came by to drop off some items and it was around 5:30 p.m. and we noticed the gate was wide open and we thought well it was kind of odd but it was still business hours and so we just kind of shrugged it off as if somebody had just left then then following morning early early morning I would say it was about 5:15 a.m. we had pulled up to the storage unit a little early we knew we couldn't get in until 6:00 a.m. but when we pulled up just to wait outside we noticed that the storage unit was wide open and let me remind you this is the middle of the night basically turning into morning and without well this is very very strange and so my boyfriend had made a complaint with the front office he had called the site and told him look your Gates were wide open when we showed up and so we went in to make sure our stuff was still there and they called him back hours later and informed us that it was the maintenance man so we just kind of let it Go then it was Christmas Day the next day and we decided to drop off one last load on Christmas before we went to our Christmas dinner and we stopped by there and we see the gate is wide open again and we start looking around there's two or three storage units with doors wide open and stuff sitting out but empty like empty boxes out in open but nothing out of the extraordinary I didn't really put too much thought except for I hope our stuff's okay so we get down to our storage at the end of aisle and our storage is okay however we noticed that there is three or four locks on the ground and the storage is wide open and so we pick up a couple pieces of the trash that was on the ground put it in our car and just left the other things alone and knowing it was Christmas there wasn't too much we could do besides leave a message so the following day after Christmas we show back up to make sure everything's still okay and we can't get into the gate it's now closed and it says C manager so my boyfriend goes and sees the manager and the manager starts accusing us of being the ones that broke into all these storage units and stealing and that we had to get out of there and we stuck our foot down and said no we've made our complaints we've even brought you guys as attention and you guys are accusing us now and this is b******* you need to rewind your cameras and so the guy apologized after a long lengthy accusation from him and we'd never even really got an apology but then towards the end of our rental we get Bill saying our rent was due 3 days early and I'm like okay so I'll just kind of shrug it off like maybe they're just sending bills out early well then I know I have that day or two extra to go and pay my bill so I go in to go grab a couple things out of the storage unit and again it says locked C manager and now I'm angry because we are not delinquent and now we can't get it into our storage unit again so after getting falsely accused and treated like crap and then also have to worry about our safety of our belongings and we went out of our way to contact them to let them know that the gate was open before and now they have locked us out of our items again but before it was always the gate was always open for some reason something's not right here something with the management that's over here or the worker behind the counter is very very crooked and I feel the management team needs to really look at this and maybe reconsider who they're hiring and they need to give refunds back to the people that they have caused nothing but issues to because this whole process we had a contract a contract that said that we were able to use that storage facility and it has been nothing but problems and unable to use it part of the time now so on that note do not run from these guys they suck their thieves from what I see from people that have pulled in another the same area that we pull in out of there's very few people to go in and out of there and it's been the maintenance man the manager and one other gentleman that's really nice and he works his butt off and you can tell it's not him cuz he's there every day dealing with furniture and I'm telling you the maintenance and different desk is very wrong and they treat people like crap don't trust your stuff here and if you look in the fine print where it says there insurance that you're paying for yeah you're paying for basically nothing and don't put anything expensive in your storage unit because you aren't going to get the value of it. I've had nothing but the worst and continues problems since moving my storage over to this facility. From the get go delaling with this company has been an otter nightmare. It started out with me booked my reservation online. I called and make sure everything was OK for my arrival only to be told by the person at the site that my unit was not available and should not have been rented out. In that same convers, this man then tells me that the gate isn't working.Then he says that my unit is available, but i can't move in because the gate isn't working. Then, it was the online system fault for reserving a storage unit, and it did not inform him properly. I fortunately was able to get into my storage unit and move in, which was vital, as I had already canceled my previous story units and packed everything up to move into this one.  Approximately a month after moving in, I received an email late on a staurday night say "thank you for renting a unit. Sorry to see you go. " The emails said I had closed out my unite and that I was moving.  This was late on a Saturday, and as such, there was nobodyavailableto speak to me at the facility.  I left a message and called the standard customer service number. They weren't any help as they couldn't be sure that my $30,000 worth of one-of-a-kind costume and makers market set up supplies were still in the storage unit. I requested a call back from a reginal manager at that point.  When I finally got ahold of somebody Monday morning I was told "oops my fault, i accidentally canceled you contract" i was finally told my belongings were safe but i would have to sign everything all over again. I told the onsite person that again, i wanted to spend with a regional manager. He told me they'll give you a call back. I was told I would get a call back from a manager and a regional manager on approximately 6 different times i have asked, and to this day Nobody has called me back. I happened to be there on a particular day, and the gate wouldn't open for the 5th time. An area manger just happened to be there. I let her know about the difficulty, and she told me that she was never informed of any problems that I have been having  Then, THIS MORNING I had issues with the gate yet again. My code is grating me access and the gate will not open I don't have access to my unit and now I am out between $500 a $1500 because I cannot pick up my merchandise and my setup so that I can go do a scheduled Maker's market. These guys just raised my storage unit, which cost approximately $200 , but I don't have the ability to access my belongings when i need to.  I can't believe I'm having this many issues. My mother has had wine storage units at this location for many years. Their payment process is absolutely rediculous. One problem after another. I honestly think that they hope people will default on their payment so that they can takeover the contents. It's been a nightmare. read more

Unfortunately I made a big mistake by using this storage facility...for the second time!!! The first time I used this facility the management failed to inform me that there was a water leak in their main storage facility. I had to find out this information out from the sales associate on the second time I came back to rent a storage unit from iStorage. You see the last time I rented a storage unit here as I was vacating my unit I discovered that a lot of my expensive vintage clothing collection was damaged due to mold and mildew onto my prized possessions!!! THE MANAGEMENT NEVER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A SERIOUS WATER LEAK IN THE BUILDING!!! I was always wondering why my storage unit smelled of mildew. Anyways as I was vacating and going through my possessions as I said earlier...I discovered that a lot of my vintage clothing collection has mold and mildew damage from a water leak THAT THE MANAGEMENT NEVER INFORMED ME... Yesterday on Tuesday January 3, 2023 I was in the process of vacating my iStorage Unit. I was able to complete the task and then as I was heading to the main office to vacate and checkout with the man behind the counter I noticed that he locked up the office climbed into his car and he drove off in his white Honda...mind you this was about 10:45am in the morning. Puzzled as what to do I climb into my car and drive off the property. I later in the afternoon called the iStorage mainline and was able to inform them that I had vacated my storage unit...I received excellent customer service from the man on the other side of the phone call. So you are probably wondering why I scored iStorage so low...the answer is that once again as I was going through my prized possessions I discovered that my clothing collection had that mildew smell on them...I had to spend a lot of money and time laundering my possessions and it put a bitter taste in my mouth about how this facility has failed once again to provide a safe environment for my personal belongings... If I were you...my advise to you is...STAY CLEAR OF iSTORAGE or any other storage facility if you suspect the smell of MOLD & MILDEW!!! This is a HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE!!! I gave iStorage a second chance because of I was in a bind... I just put a load of my clothing stored in iStorage and I am hoping to get that NASTY MILDEW ODOR OUT OF MY EXPENSIVE VINTAGE CLOTHING COLLECTION!!! The first time I dealt with iStorage I had to throw out a lot of my prized Vintage Clothing Collection because there literally was "Green Mold & Mildew" clinging to my collection!!! And for the man in the office who drove off the property makes me wonder who is running this facility...the owners and manager should be concerned and worried about who is running their ship!!! Backstory: I moved out on 11/21/22, but could not close my account that day (a Monday) because apparently no one decided to show up for work. I went in person the next day and was told I was all set. I was nonetheless billed the next month (December). I called, explained the situation to "Nate" and was told it would be handled and I would receive a refund by check. I was nonetheless billed the next month (January). I called my credit card, disputed the charges, and put a block on iStorage charging me further. I also used the "contact us" page on the iStorage website to again explain the situation and caution them against charging me again. So today (2/23/23) I received a text saying my account was overdue. I started to fill out a complaint for fraud with the Secretary of State, but thought maybe I would give them one more chance to fix the problem. I called their corporate headquarters in Colorado, and a very nice woman helped me. She noted that there was nothing in my file indicating I'd moved out (surprise, surprise), and after confirming with 19th avenue that my lock was off the door, refunded the charges. The moral of my story: do not do business with iStorage on 19th Avenue. If you do, call corporate -- do not rely on employees at 19th Avenue to behave professionally or legally. read more

I would not rent a storage unit here. - This storage company is unethical - They will increase your monthly rental fee right after you move your items in - They will treat you unfairly. - The price they quote you over the phone will not include taxes, fees, administrative costs. - Michael who runs the place will act very nice but you can't trust him. I rented a unit here and just about 2 months later, they increased my monthly rental fee by $30. When I complained Micheal just said - "The decision to increase your rent was a decision made by corporate." They still owe me money - I canceled my unit in November and when I asked to speak to a manager, it took an hour on hold to get me a number. Then I talked to the guy who told me to wait another week. I was furious but OK...I had another question so I called back 5 mins later and the guy answered saying he was a 17 year old kid and what did he know about storage...WHAT??? I've had items stored here for years, and the cost keeps creeping up. Now I'm paying nearly double my initial rate for the exact same service. Storage units are small, hallways are narrow, and usually blocked. They charge you at the end of the month and not the beginning. Who gets paid at the end of the month? I called to make my payment today, and was told that they had stopped taking my credit card type, with ZERO notification. I don't have another kind of credit card. Cool. I am so upset with the admin part of iStorage. EVERY SINGLE MONTH I pay my bill and EVERY SINGLE MONTH the bill has a higher amount. I found out today that when I send a payment it has been turned into a credit but NEVER applied to my bill!!! WHO DOES THAT?! My bill doubles with a late fee!!! I hate their accounting process and I feel like I am being ripped off. Daniel and Michael are the ONLY REASON I am still there. These guys work HARD to try to make the customer feel good but enough is enough anymore. I will NEVER STORE ANYTHING with iStorage again!!! I "reserved" a 10x10 unit a week in advance of my move on their website to ensure that I would have a space. I received a call from the manager following up to confirm I wanted the unit, and asking when I plan to come in to sign the contract. I told him I would come up in three days. When I arrived at the office, they informed me they gave my spot away and could only offer a 5x12 unit on the corner of the building, and so their uneven angles in the unit, which made it somewhat pointless for storing large items like furniture. The website did not indicate that "reserving" does nothing but indicate interest in the unit. At no time did the manager tell me on the phone that it was possible this unit would be given to a different customer. If I had been told the units were first come-first serve, I would have come up much earlier in the week to sign the contract. Terrible communication by the office. I ended up going with Public Storage instead. When they tell you on the phone that they are reserving the unit for you, they actually mean it! read more

I don't know why this place doesn't have 5 stars for service. We recently called into a center to rent a unit and went thru the whole process. The next day, Michael called us to let us know there had been a mistake done by the call center and worked with us on fixing the problem to our complete satisfaction. We would recommend this place to all in need of storage who appreciate good customer service and are looking for people that like working with people. One star for how nice one of the employee was but also because you can't leave a zero star review here. To keep it short, my keypad code was not activated correctly which cost me an extra $300 in hiring movers and more importantly, SOMEONE STOLE FROM MY LOCKED UNIT. Someone was able to get into my unit and steal two boxes worth of belongings. While nothing of value was stolen, I felt very violated and immediately moved out my things once I discovered things had been stolen from my unit. My things had only been sitting in my unit for less than 2 weeks when I found this out. I emailed the manager letting them know my unit was empty and I was not going to pay anything past the first month given the horrible experience I had. It seems like my rental agreement has been ended with them via email but I'm not 100% sure given that they never got back to me or cared to follow up with me. This place is not worth your time unless you're storing things you are willing to get stolen and are only willing to access your unit while the rental office is open in case you run into any problems. read more

I had a terrible experience with this iStorage location. Initially I booked a unit online with the first month free. When I visited the location, I was moved to a bigger unit since the one I booked would have been difficult to load/unload. I confirmed multiple times with the manager that the first month(November) would still remain free. After moving in, I was charged for the first month. When I bough it up with the local manager, I was assured that since I was already charged for November, they would make December free. I was charged for December as well. Again when I approached the local manager, I was told that they would issue a refund at move out. I was given no such refund and every time I spoke to the local manager, he said he was putting in a request for a refund. He never followed up and I had to make multiple calls/visits where I was told the refund wasn't approved since my original booking did not have a free month, but he would try again. It has been over 2 months since I moved out and I have still not got any refund from iStorage. Also, I just noticed that Galen L. who posted below had the same issue! read more

I could repeat exactly what Cee V. and Josephine H. have said, but here's my version; What used to be 19th Ave storage is now iStorage and as good as the old one was, the new one is the exact opposite. Need a burned out light replaced? It's a corporate issue and will take weeks. Need to prorate days in your last month? The answer is no. Need to partition a wall turning a larger space into a smaller? The answer is no. All of these these things were easy with the old owners. No more. Add to this, lousy sullen help in the office, higher rates, and a lack of upkeep, and this place has now got to be one of the worst in town. After 15 years, we have quickly moved. read more

We've been excellent tenants renting at this location for many years, and since iStorage took over from 19th Avenue Self Storage, it's been awful. As others have reported, maintenance has fallen as prices have risen. Two price increases in two years and yet lights are burned out and not replaced for weeks, the office manager is sullen, suspicious and lazy and it's impossible to reach the Regional manager to report complaints. Very disrespectful of the customer. They're truly only in it for the money and quick turnover. We're getting out asap. Horrible. read more
