I went here on the recommendation from a friend. The food here was AMAZING! So fresh and flavorful. The owners were gracious, polite and friendly to each customer. We ordered the special that consisted of 3 different tacos and each one was fantastic! Also, they make their own chips and they are great. My boyfriend and I were craving mariscos and were impressed by the reviews so we decided to give it a try. We were greeted by Victor who was extremely welcoming, friendly, and informative. The dine in space is a little bit on the smaller side but very clean. While ordering I learned that Victor and his wonderful wife Sonya are the owners. They answered any and all questions I had and also got to learn a little about them! The service alone was 10/10! Now let's get to the food. I love spicy foods but not to the point where it's unenjoyable, so I asked about it to be sure. He mentioned I could request it medium, so I did to be on the safe side. The aguachiles had so much flavor and a perfect amount of spice, I couldn't stop eating! I saw Isla recommended in NextDoor and we decided to give it a try. I've been searching for a close place with great tacos and couldn't find quite the place, and I've found it now! Phenomenal food and service. I went with my son. Victor and Sonia went out of their way to make us feel welcome. On their recommendation, we tried the shrimp / octopus cocktail, the shrimp gobernador taco, the shrimp empanada and the octopus taco. The octopus taco was one of the best foods I've ever tried. The octopus was so tender and delicious and it was well accompanied by guacamole, cheese and garlic. Everything else was awesome too. I can't say enough good things about this place. 03/07/24- Went here based on reviews and photos here at Yelp. This place is somewhat not in a busy plaza or location. No parking in the front and it's confusing if you are first time eating here. It is beside a gas station, enter that and make a right for the small parking shared by other businesses around it. Very tight parking space in the back of the establishment. Service was just okay and need more cheerfulness and smile from maybe owner or mother of the owner. (I was just guessing as she is an older lady). She cannot understand me that much as she was talking to me in Spanish. The place is somewhat small. Only 3 small tables, each with two chairs and one longer table. Place is not seen unless it is intentionally visited. As for the food, ordered Trio (shrimp taco, fish taco, birria). Shrimp is small and looks like steamed kind (I was expecting more of like grilled or fried seasoning)- the veggies with the shrimp taco for me is overpowering the shrimp. As for the famous fish taco- sauce was better (maybe that's why it was popular)- the fish is fried but from frozen. The birria does not even come with consome. I also ordered birria taco which has a spicy sauce on top that a child might eat by accident. Overall, was just okay. I have tasted way better than this one. Each one has a different opinion and one can taste so good compared to another. This is just my opinion. Prices seem high for a little taco. But everything now has gone up, what can we do? Parking and location can be improved. Honestly, I should not be stress over parking just to eat here. Maybe I just held up my expectations too high based on reviews and photos, and got disappointed. Honestly this place is superb. The fish tacos are most definitely the best that I've had and don't sleep on the rice and beans either! So fresh and tasty. Their chips are also made in house and so good! It just hits perfectly. Sonja (who I think is one of the owners?) is so kind, attentive and clearly puts love into everything that she cooks. My wife and I have been meaning to check this place out since they opened. From the outside you wouldn't expect much but those are the kind of places we often enjoy the most. Lets start with the nice man who greeted us as we walked in. I believe he is the owner and husband of the head chef. He was happy to explain the menu and answer any questions we had. We ordered camarones a la diabla, aguachile, and a burrita. Everything was delicious. He mentioned their recipes are from the coastal region of Jalisco. My family is from Jalisco and I am very familiar with the region he mentioned. That being said, this place is authentic. Even the style of rice that was served with the camarones a la diabla was exactly what i would expect If i was at a family run seafood restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. They are soon to open their new location in todos los santos. I look forward to frequently visiting this place. Isla Restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but it has some of the best Mexican seafood I've had since leaving San Diego. Seeing their sign highlight "Seafood", I had to specifically try some of their seafood options. I ordered their "Burrita w/ shrimp + octopus", "Taco Governador (shrimp)", and "Fish Taco". Burrita was not something I've had before, but it tasted so savory and the octopus wasn't too chewy; it was very delicious. The Governador was also a new experience for me; it was kind of like the Burrita but with a slightly toasted, taco-sized tortilla - also a very solid choice! I'm not the biggest fan of fish outside of sushi to be honest, but the fish was fluffy and the fry was quite nice. If fish tacos are something you enjoy, you will likely also enjoy this one as well. The only wish I have is: I wish they were open until 8pm on weekdays, so I could have time to stop-by after work hours. I'll definitely be returning to have more of that Burrita and Governador, and also work through more of their menu. If you're eating at Taqueria Autlan across the street, make sure to save some space to make a stop by here for some seafood options as well! September 8, 2022 Update: Came back and had the same seafood tacos, plus their steak and al pastor tacos. The steak and al pastor is as good as any good Taqueria you'll find in Concord, but the seafood is easily 5 stars. I was apprehensive about eating here since the sign touts their seafood and I'm a vegetarian, but the rest of my family loved it so I decided to see what I could eat. Turns out they make amazing vegetarian tacos and the best chili rellenos around (instead of burying them in thick egg batter, they are only sauced so you can really taste and enjoy the pepper). They only do the rellenos once or so a week so check in advance. Everyone I have brought here loves it too. The owners are also amazing and spend time getting to know each customer. First time there today, Saturday and went with family. Probably won't be returning. Realize it's a mom and pop place so I hesitated to leave feedback but also don't know why it's so overrated. First, menu is blurry. Not really their fault ig, but for someone who isn't familiar with Mexican food beyond tacos and burritos, it made it difficult to try new stuff. Then, I was charged a whole different amount than wha the menu had indicated. A few dollars more may not seem like a lot, except the menu says one thing so you expect to pay that, plus tax. I had a tiny bit of trouble finding this restaurant. It's tucked away next to Dominoes on Clayton Rd. I was welcomed in by a very nice woman. We ordered the burrita and two fish tacos. The fish tacos were good, but nothing to write home about. However, the burrita was absolutely delicious!! The amount of octopus and shrimp used was perfect. The tortilla chips were also quite good and homemade I believe? The restaurant is very small. Just a few tables in front of the register, so on busy nights you will likely be better off ordering for take out. The parking is pretty much non-existent as well, so if you go for dinner on busy nights, you'll have to look around for parking. Everything was amazing, but the highlight was certainly the fresh and tasty shrimp and octopus inside of the Burrita. The best seafood tacos and burrito we've had up here in Nor Cal.
