El Grullense provided taco catering for our multi-faith, queer pride celebration and I can't recommend them highly enough! First off the FOOD was amazing and I come from a pretty critical BIG Mexican family when it comes to things like how the rice and beans are made. I got to know them from visiting their food truck on 18th St. in Antioch where I fell in love with the al pastor tacos. And check it out, they will be streaming World Cup soccer matches from the truck for patrons in June and July! Catering serves were amazing and the price point was excellent. Rick worked with me to help plan the menu and was able to provide a bounty of options for vegetarians as well as carne asada aficionados! All the ingredients were fresh and folks had access to all the traditional toppings and then some. The crew also brought huge containers of horchata and pineapple agua frescas, as well as cold waters for everyone. Everything was clean, clearly made fresh on the spot, and super professional. BUT what made it best was working with the El Grullense team. The crew was warm, welcoming, and engaging to everyone who walked up to the taco station. Great taqueria with a really friendly staff, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, TVs to watch the game and tasty food! My go to are the street tacos, but the ceviches, and tostadas are very good too! They've got a large selection of beers, and sodas all in glass bottles so you know it's the good stuff. The inside is very large, could certainly throw a party here! When the weather is nice outside the patio is a good spot to kick back with a beer and some food. Stopped at Taqueria El Grullense for a quick bite to get away from fast food, and it was exactly what we needed. The place was clean and quiet, which made it an easy stop. The vibe here is off. I tried calling to place a pick up order and the phone went to voicemail. So I came inside to order and was ignored for a few minutes then had a girl stare weirdly at me as I ordered 6 tacos. Chips and salsa are not included with a $20 order? Weird. I probably won't be back. I haven't even tasted the tacos yet but unless they are AMAZING then yea I made my decision. Came here for breakfast a while ago & wanted to give this place a shot for lunch. When they brought us our tacos to our table -- our food was COLD! I ordered the shrimp tacos & it comes with sour cream. The girl at the register said the sour cream made the tortilla turn cold that's why it's like that. But my partner ordered tacos with no sour cream and his asada tacos were just as cold. When we asked to have it warmed up the girl gave me an attitude. They literally just threw the whole taco back on the grill with all the lettuce and sour cream on there. If you're a food handler-- YOU DO NOT WARM UP LETTUCE because it can cause contamination and salmonella. I spoke Spanish too, so she couldn't talk crap about me to her coworker lol. My bf ordered 3 asada tacos & they put hardly any meat on a big tortilla. (As pictured!) Won't be back again! This place got 3 stars for a reason.... There's other better taco spots around town. $50 down the trash.... Didn't even eat my shrimp tacos because I was scared I was going to get sick from reheated lettuce and shrimp. HELL NO! Terrible food and super over priced! The service, even worse!! I ordered a torta, what I got was some bread with a pinch of meat. And paid over $15 for it. The tacos, super over priced at over $5 for some tortilla and over cooked pieces of skimped meat. What really pushed it, was the server. Super rude and keep forgetting what I asked for. And all I ask for was a few things. Had to walk up to her several times, and all I got was attitude. Just paid $30 for some bread and few tortillas with a hint of meat. If you are in the area and want some Mexican food, just hit up Pacheco's Mexican Grill. Literally, few blocks away. Food is way better and those peeps are super cool. I've been wanting to try this place for a while, especially having moved out of San Francisco a while back, I miss the Mission and their burritos. I was hoping this place might do, since it's lts nearby and is often busy with locals. I decided on the shrimp burrito, because that's what I most wanted, even though I figured the Carnitas would probably be superior. The shrimp were tiny, although the overall burrito, was pretty tasty, although it was too small though for a super burrito. The staff was polite, and the food, which I had to go , was served quickly. The spicy red sauce, which I had on the side, was authentic and yummy. Just went here for the first time. As pulled up someone was washing the sidewalk with a hose. There were many men standing out front drinking out of paper bags. This location is right next to a busy liquor store. I went inside and was greeted by very friendly staff. I love the staff here, so nice. They brought chips to my table, super yummy. I got a carnitas burrito and it was so juicy and delicious. I really liked it. Good prices here. Went into the restroom and I assume one of the drunks had gotten everything in the bathroom soaking wet. Super gross and they only had one restroom. Went back to my car and half of it was wet from whoever was washing down the sidewalks. Restaurant is super clean inside (besides the restroom that some drunk destroyed). Menu has lots of wonderful options. I have been to other locations in this chain (in Mountain View) and this one was good just like the others. I've never been one to write negative reviews especially on smaller locally owned restaurants but I think sharing my experience is important for the safety and health of others. My experience eating at this restaurant was like going to any particular taqueria. I ordered tacos de asada and carne asada fries which didn't have any particular taste, it wasn't anything special. The fries were soggy and the meat was dry. I've been sick with food poisoning because of the food I ate at that place. I do not recommend anyone going it's not sanitary. read more

Great location right on Pacheco Blvd off highway 4 at I-680 in Pacheco. If your hungry for breakfast, this is a great spot! I stopped in hungry after working all night and was looking for something to satisfy the hunger pangs in my gut. Looking at their menu, they had several options including a traditional bacon & eggs, pancakes, huevos rancheros. But for me, it was a Breakfast Burrito. The burrito took a little while to cook, but it was definitely worth the wait. Inside they put fresh bacon, eggs, hash-browns, shredded cheese, beans and salsa. I ordered 3 plates a few days ago, take out. One order of enchiladas verdes & one order enchiladas rojas and 3 carne asada tacos. The enchilada chicken meat was so dry and hard to chew and to top it off very salty. Looking at their menu and having ordered many dishes past I realized that they don't use chicken breast but use chicken thigh meat. I know that for the price they charge they should be using chicken breast as opposed to chicken thigh meat. I can see that they want to profit more by using chicken thigh meat because it's cheaper. I rather go to other Mexican restaurants. They lost a customer but I guess it won't matter. Anyway just wanted to share my experience with the public. The carne asada always has a lot of chunky fat pieces minced up with the good meat. This happens ALWAYS with their beef and carnitas. I guess their "profit" margin is more important than serving good meat. They add allot of white onions to disguise the fatty meat pieces just grossed me out. My new favorite place is "Los Ponchos" in Pleasant Hill, Ca. The restaurant is clean, employees are friendly and you get great quality service and good food. They don't rip people off by serving "chicken thigh" meat and are generous with their chicken plates adding plenty of chicken breast. This is the right way of serving people good food and charging a reasonable price. read more
