Might be the worst restaurant experience I've had in recent memory. First off it took us an hour to get our food when there was barely anybody else in the restaurant, then the service was extremely minimal, only came by to take our order and give us our food, never checking in during the hour we waited. And then I ended up getting a horrible case of food poisoning from either the taco or the drink I had, not sure which one. I'm extremely disappointed because I'd heard the restaurant was great but this was horrible and I'll never go back again. Would give 0 if I could. Came here at 1:30 in the afternoon on a rainy Sunday. There was a family of 6 and a table of 2 at the time, about 5 workers (1 in the front and 3 or 4 in the back in the kitchen. I'm giving this place 3 stars for a few reasons: 1. The menu is blurry, can barely read it. 2. I ordered the regular quesadilla with steak, which I thought was $9 according to the menu. I asked the cashier why is it $12? She said because you got steak. So it's $9 for a cheese quesadilla?? Something not right here.. 3. It took about 40 minutes to get my food with not that many people in the restaurant and I was the only takeout order. It was a LONG 40 minutes let's just say. 4. I also got the Isla Trio "special". Not much of a special.. If you order a la carte, it's the same price. Food was good, but the shrimp taco and fish taco were a few bites and done. 5. Last, maybe it's my asian taste buds, but I did not like the salsa at all. It basically tasted like lime juice to me. IMO the business model needs to change a bit for this small establishment to survive and thrive. I wouldn't wait again for the food. read more

My husband and I usually trust Yelp's reviews, but it let us down this time. The server's service was good, but it took too long for five tacos. It was Sunday lunchtime, but the restaurant was very empty, so I don't understand why it took so long. When we order two or three tacos each at other places, we get so full, but not here. The tortillas were very thin and only one layer, and the ingredients were not enough. The taste was not good either. We were still hungry after the meal, so we had to go to a second restaurant. Had lunch here today. Realized we'd eaten here before when it was under a different name. Food was good but we sat outside because we had our dog with us which is great. The staff were very kind and very helpful but because we were outside and it was windy, the food cooled down pretty quickly. My husband had all three of the shrimp tacos and we enjoyed all of them. Our favorite was the Isla and I had the chile relleno plate which was also very good. They brought out chips salsa and we had some tortillas which our dog really enjoyed and we most especially appreciated how friendly they were. read more

Easter brunch take out from Isla today was amazing! We stopped by around noon and the place was empty, probably as church hadn't let out yet or people were at other places for brunch. We were so happy they were open. We ordered two shrimp and octopus burrita, two Isla trios (each had birria taco, fish taco and shrimp taco) and a beef and bacon chili verde type of soup that knocked our socks off. Everything was delicious and d freshly made to order but this chili verde soup with avocado, onions and diced peppers stole the show. The food took about 10-15 minutes to make as they don't make the food until you order. Victor took time to talk to us about their dishes and how they make everything fresh. This was our second time here. The first time was amazing but we weren't sure if we were just really hungry or if it was really that good. People, it's really that good. My friend let me know about this restaurant and I wanted me to try it and holy moly I was blown away by the chips and salsa. Seems nowadays restaurants don't offer complimentary chips and salsa. They gave me two delicious salsas, a red and green. My Al pastor tacos came next which In my opinion were perfect because of the seasoning and spices, plus it didn't have pineapple then I was served a tostada with ceviche of Pulpo (octopus) and Camaron (shrimp). Most places that serve Pulpo typically over cook it but was cook perfectly. By far the best thing about Isla Restaurant is the owners and staff. They are so welcoming and attentive, also they very friendly and personable. I'm going back for lunch tomorrow for sure. read more

Finally tried this spot today and it did not miss. Interior - small seating inside with four tables, but freshly updated and extremely clean inside. Order at the counter and you can see directly in the kitchen as Sonia prepares your food. Food - everything is freshly made and you can taste taste that freshness and resulting tenderness in every bite of the food. We had the shrimp empanadas, and tacos trios which was comprised of a fish taco, shrimp taco, and quesabirria taco. I would have a hard time picking the winner, but slightly leaning towards the quesabirra which was so damn flavorful and tender, followed by the fish taco. The empanadas are outstanding as well and came with a Chipotle aioli that was great. Chips - freshly made and excellent. How it should be done. Salas - the two salsas that come with the chips were solid, the red being the better of the two. But the owner brought out two more upon request, and they were the clear winners. One leaned towards chipotle, and the other was their spicy salsa and it was heaven. I even asked for a container to take home. Service - outstanding, Victor and Sonia are so welcoming and engaging, the clearly treat every customer like a guest in their home. Took time to come to the table and welcome as first time customers and treated every customer equally well during our time there. Just wow, being from San Diego I have the highest standards for Mexican food. This blew me out of the water! Shrimp is always hit or miss at Mexican restaurants but this was seriously fresh + amazing chips (which they filled up twice for free). Owner is incredibly friendly and helpful. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of typical Mexican food, but I was hungry and I decided to try this restaurant because of its reviews on Yelp since everyone talks about it. The waiter Samuel recommended the dish called Isla Trio since it has a lot of variety. In this case, I didn't know what to eat and I wanted to try a variety of things. I'm not going to lie. I found a place that is spectacular, the food is very delicious, and the service is like never before. I came here one night when I just didn't have the energy to cook, and from the moment I opened the door I was blown away by the atmosphere. The owner came right up and greeted me like I was family, gave me great suggestions, and even offered me something that wasn't on the menu yet! Such a great lunch spot! The husband and wife owners are so friendly, and the food is absolutely amazing. I love seafood, and this was easily the best Mexican seafood I have ever had! I had the shrimp & octopus burrita, but also tried a shrimp taco and both were unbelieveably tasty.
