While staying at the Westin Villas we ended up dining at Inu. The service was mediocre, and the food, WORST meal I can recall ever eating out. The menu describes this with Kimchi which. I asked to have removed. When the entree arrived it was coated in so much cilantro (not mentioned in the description) I sent it back immediately. I must have irritated the chef because the new dish was literally in ice cold tortillas, two slices of fish maybe two ounces of meat and stale tortilla chips. I had to request salsa. The server seemed to be clueless with zero knowledge of their menu. Maui is not an inexpensive place to visit, we understand. But this meal with two entrees and one soft drink- $70 was the worst!! Inu was the surprise of the week, in a good way! We tried Duke's without a reservation (haha silly us!) and needed a plan B when Duke's had a 90+ minute wait and we had a toddler in tow. We thought we'd try Inu because it was very close and we didn't have time to walk to restaurants further south or drive somewhere before a full-on toddler meltdown would start. We caught the end of happy hour but ordered dinner entrees instead of happy hour appetizers. My husband had the poke bowl and it was well seasoned, overall he was happy with it. I had the island catch (mahi mahi), which was served with Portuguese sausage fried rice, bok choy and a ginger soy glaze, finished with a few micro greens. The cook on the mahi mahi was spot on and the flavors were really nice. It seems like Inu had a couple of the dinner entree choices that maybe had been at Westin's sit down restaurants, Mauka Maki (in Nanea, closed during dinner) and Pulehu (in the KOR north towers, currently closed), in addition to the normal casual fare (burgers, fish tacos, appetizers, etc.). Horrible service!!! We went twice, shame on us. First visit: Pool side Server said beer during happy hour was $4 for 8oz. He first tried to deliver a margarita. Hubby told him it wasn't his. "Oh, I can't read my writing". Then he Took 45 mins to bring the beer. He then tells Hubby that it's last call. So of course He got a second one. When the server dropped the bill, he charged us $8/each beer. He did fix it. When I asked him why the 8oz here was $4 and at our property it's $7.50 for 16oz. He said, "we are higher end". I asked him what the differences are between the two properties, he basically said they were more expensive. Fresher ingredients. "Well, I'm not really sure but that's what I'm saying" Basically, they want this to be higher class. But clearly that server is at the wrong property. Second visit: We sat at the poolside restaurant and I had to go to the bar to ask for menus because she didn't come. The server finally came by and we asked for waters. She came back at least ten mins later. No water but took our order. Ten mins later, I got water. Twenty mins to bring our food. No check back to see how we were or if we needed anything. Sat for a while after being finished. I finally got up and asked another server for our check. She appeared clueless even though we also had spoken to her through all this. Easily one of the worst meals that I've ever had, anywhere in a restaurant! I eat out approx 2 times per week and have been doing so for 40 years. This place was a major disappointment, especially since I'm a Westin owner and had high hopes for this place. The only saving grace was that our server was a very sweet young man and he provided a high level of customer service. The food: my father-in-law and I each ordered the "flatbread". It was really inedible! The bread itself was as hard as a rock, most of the topping were tasteless and it seemed like the cook had poured a cup of lemon juice on top. We really truly could taste nothing but lemon. Each flatbread went uneaten. My wife's wedge salad came without any dressing and she said that it was boring. Had a few drinks with my wife while we were staying nearby. It's a nice 'stopover' as you make you way down the Boardwalk, it's great that you don't have to be staying a the resort to pop in and get a thirst quencher! Twice we went here, the first time we sat at the bar and the servers/bartenders were great! Very quick to see if we needed anything, very friendly, Aloha all around. The second time we grabbed a table nearer the pool, and the service on that occasion was not quite as great but oh well. At the end of the day, if anyone who currently works at that bar or who previously worked at the bar could contact me... I would love to have the recipe for the Nanea Royal mai tai! I have purchased all the ingredients for my home bar, but I'm not sure in what proportion I should pour things. I'm not looking to 'steal' the recipe, I'm not a bar or restaurant owner or manager, just a guy who can't afford to fly to Maui every time I want one of these delicious mai tais and would like to recreate the experience at home. We ate here several times over our stay in Maui. The food was always good but the absolute best value is the beer can chicken for $27. It is a whole chicken that tastes like rotisserie chicken. It was very moist and the seasoning was so good! It is served with a good quantity of French fries and 3 sauces. One order could easily feed a family of 4. As owners, we were unfortunately disappointed that the experience wasn't better especially given this is our home resort. Plenty of room for improvement here in terms of service and speed. We waited 15 minutes for our table to be cleared. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue for us since I do understand things get busy (this was at about 1:20), but the tables in the bar area weren't full and we literally sat in front of dirty dishes until we were able to make eye contact with the server. We ordered the standard kids fare (chicken strips and kids pizza) from the menu, which we've ordered 3 times before at the main restaurant. I ordered a burger and my husband ordered the poke wrap. The food took way too long and we were told it was due to them "cutting up fruit" for our meal. While we didn't time it, we didn't end up leaving till close to 3. Most parents know that with kids (3 & 5) any waiting over 20 mins for food is heading towards a kid meltdown, and this is where we were careening towards. We also made the mistake of ordering ice cream for the kids for being so patient and that again took a good 15 minutes to arrive. Once the bill came, they also charged us for all the kids food, despite me confirming at the beginning that the kids would be eating for free given their age. No apologies for the mix-up. Not sure where the breakdown at Inu specifically is, but the consistent reviews complaining about the same issues we experienced might be reason to have management looking for ways to improve. Not sure we'd want to go here and have a repeat experience again - especially when on vacation. read more

We came early around 11am for lunch with our little one and had a great experience. I read some of the other reviews after being surprised at the low rating and it looks like it comes down to service. I do not recall our server's name which is unfortunate because she was great, super friendly and accommodating of our specific needs. Also, the place was empty when we came in and nearly full when we left so I think we benefitted from that in terms of focused service. We would come back here for an early lunch for sure, but recommend avoiding the crowded times. Food was good if not epic: I had the burger and while it was a bit overdone, it was otherwise quite tasty and well made. My wife had chicken nachos and she enjoyed those as well. My daughter's pizza could have been a bit crisper but pretty decent. The blood orange coconut cocktail I had was absolutely perfect, I had two of them! Not strong at all so don't plan to get a buzz on these but if you want a light, refreshing cocktail that's not at all too sweet or heavy, this is it. Prices are resort prices, no surprise there. We are staying at the adjacent Westin property and about the same there. It's nice that you have access to all 3 properties and that they let you charge to your room from any of them. read more

This normally wouldn't be much of a problem, but the server ran off quickly after dropping off the food and we were never able to find another wait person. The Smoked Tako Ho'io Salad is admirably described as Kiawe-smoked local octopus, pohole fern sprouts, Kula tomatoes, Maui onion, and blue ginger. It's $18.00, tough, and flavorless - a ruined protein. The 'Cobb style' salad comes with vinaigrette. cold mesclun, tomatoes, goat cheese, avocado, cold chicken breast, cold strips of beef jerky, and cold boiled eggs. This is the kind of salad a kid puts together per chef's instructions and then gets left in a fridge until serving. Terrible. Oh but the view! So nice. Killer view, beautiful resort, lovely staff, we only had drinks so can't comment on the food. Drinks were good. They have a couple of TVs if you want to watch major sports events. It's a bit small, in my opinion, for the size of the resort. There is no AC, no ceiling fans, and very little crosswind so it wasn't super comfortable. I go to Inu for drinks and dinner occasionally. Sarah, the bar tender is fantastic. She always has a smile on her face and is spot on with all her drinks. Someone needs to give her a promotion. As for the food, it's hit or miss. At times it's good with fresh ingredients and other times it's under cooked and flavorless. I've had several entrees and my go to is the fish and chips. Pros - my kids hopped out of the pool, ate, and hopped back in the pool which is just what we were looking for on our last night in Maui. And the poke bowl was pretty good too, the fish tasted very fresh. Cons - The rest of the food was terrible. And expensive even by Maui standards. The fried avocado that came with the poke bowl was brown in the middle. They charge $12 for a kids cheese pizza at that I am pretty sure came frozen from Costco. It took about an hour to get our food and it wasn't even busy! We all finished our drinks before we even got our food. I asked the waiter 3 times for refills on all our drinks and was never given one. Waiters sat and talked the whole time. For how we'll know the WESTIN hotel is you'd think they would have better service. Don't waste your money on a 18+ dollar burger go somewhere else. We had some time to kill before check in so we decided to have lunch. The only thing worse than the food was the service. I had the dry noodle dish. It was bland, the noodles tasted stale. When we asked about it we were told that because we had asked for 3 checks at our table of 5 the kitchen had to make it all separately. What? So what! They can still be told that all 3 checks are same table and then be brought out at same time. It's not rocket science, and other restaurants do it all the time.
