I was craving Indian food last night, so I got Indochen delivered via Uber Eats. Prices on the app are steeper than in-store, but I'll list the current in-store prices in this review. I've been meaning to try Indochen after hearing positive reviews, but unfortunately, it's a bit out of the way. PALAK PANEER - 19 This came with a small container of palak paneer and some basmati rice. The food was still pretty warm upon delivery. The palak paneer was on the chunkier side, not pureed like I'm used to, but I actually liked that it was chunky. However, I thought it lacked salt/seasoning. The amount of spice was good, but could use a bit more "oomph." The paneer was just OK, not as soft or spongy as I had hoped. The basmati rice was wet, almost to the point of soggy. Meh. The food for the portion size at Indochen is already pretty expensive at its regular price, so I would highly recommend against ordering it off of third-party delivery apps. I'm not opposed to coming back, but I would definitely eat the food dine-in and try something else.

The food was hot and amazing with lots of flavor. We ordered tandoori chicken, butter chicken pasta, tandoori salmon, garlic naan, cheese naan, mango lassi, and pog juice. Everything tasted great. The only reason I had to give 4 instead of 5 is because we ordered a mocktail mojito and even double checked with the waitress there is no alcohol once we received the drink. Unfortunately, a sip revealed there was alcohol added in. We let the waitress know and the waitress went to the back check if this was correct and it was. We ordered a sparkling water instead. Other than that, the food was great so I would come back for that.

Second time's the charm! Came here unknowingly that it was restaurant week and it was delicious! We each got an appetizer and a main and split everything which was perfect. Everything was really good, the standout to me was the tandoori chicken which was so juicy, moist, and spicy (mostly dark meat, my favorite). Food was so good and I really love the location, cameron station is so cute and it overlooks the water which was romantic for a platonic dinner. Service was great too, everyone was super nice!

So much good food!! Where to begin... We went there to celebrate a birthday. Among 7 or 8 or us we ordered several apps and entrees and ate family style. I dont know the names of the dishes but there were all jam packed with flavor and so filling. They had a decent amount of vegetarian options too. The servers were friendly but I felt they were too shy and not quite sure when they needed to come back to check on us. They were super helpful when it came to managing the cake we brought in. Would highly recommend.

I had a taste for some good Indian food. Indochen did not disappoint at all. I ordered the samosas as an appetizer and the Chana Masala (chickpeas) and rice as the main course. The food was full of flavor. I love the mango chutney on everything. The service was just ok. I had to ask for lemons for my water several times. We went on a weekday so the atmosphere was more of working professionals. When I'm in DC again I will definitely visit this place again.

My friends and came at 5:00pm on Saturday. Pre-arrival: Reservations are made on their website but it's weird because you have to wait for the Restaraunt to review your submission, then you get an email back confirming/denying. They was odd and I'd like to know availability immediately. Parking & Service: Considering it was Alexandria, I was surprised parking was so available. It's near neighborhoods and a walking trail and seems like a great location. One of our friends was late in our party of 4, but they didn't mind accommodating us and letting us wait until she arrived 25 mins later. Our waitress continuously kept our water glasses full and they cleared our table as we emptied plates. Food: We ordered so much daggone food, we essentially created our own buffet. BBQ ribs w/ fried rice- 5/5 Lamb Rogan Josh- 5/5 Butter chicken - 4/5 it was a little sweet Grilled lamb ribs- 5/5 Palak paneer- 3.5/5 needed salt and would've liked a smaller portion to order as a side. The cheese was the texture of tofu, not sure if that's the norm cuz it was my first time having it Raita- 5/5 large portion Garlic naan- thick and flavorful *They have cheese naan too, but we didn't order any. I would have loved a dates and nuts naan, that flavor profile would've been amazing with the food. I also appreciated there were chutneys on the menu to order as extra.

I've dined here a dozen times. This is a high quality establishment. The service is excellent, always! I've never had a bad experience or meal here. Besides the foods pictured the lamb chops are outstanding too. Clean - Modern environment.

Came to Indochen during dinner time and I really enjoyed it! I ordered the Butter pasta (butter chicken with penne pasta) it was very tasty! The portion was great for the price ($18) and garlic naan. I wanted to try one of their sandwiches but they were sold out, maybe next time. The service was excellent, our waitress was very nice and attentive. The restaurant has a lot of tables for all party sizes. I highly recommend checking this place out!

When I was visiting DC, my group and I went here for restaurant week in Virgina and were amazed! $25 per person for a 3 course meal was a great deal. The food was delicious and the ambience was super cute! It's a good thing we made reservations because it was super packed. The veg Manchurian was a little undercooked but the butter chicken, lamb ghosh and chicken tikka masala were tasty with garlic naan. Out of all the appetizers, the kale chaat was our favorite. And of course cannot go wrong with all the desserts: kheer (rice pudding), gulab jamun and rasmalai. Also great service! Highly recommend!

We reserved Indochen to celebrate my other half's retirement. They were able to seat all 12 of us comfortably in their private dining room. The food, staff, and care we got from everyone was 5 star plus! The tandoori chicken, pork ribs, gobi manchurian, orange shrimp were all amazing. Also, the shrimp and lamb biryani's were excellent! Everybody was impressed. Thank you Indochen for a perfect evening !

We decided to try this restaurant as part of their restaurant week special since they had great deals - $25 for a 3 course meal including appetizer entree and dessert. We were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and food. The vibe of the interior is upscale casual and we were able to get a reservation for 4 just a few days before. The food was absolutely amazing. As a South Indian living in the states, I don't often find authentic indo Chinese food but this place truly delivered. They respected our spice tolerance in the dishes and we liked majority of the food we ordered. Highly recommend the curries - especially the butter chicken, the lamb rogan josh and chicken tikka masala were also really tasty. The kale chaat was the highlight of the appetizers. The chow mein was good but forgettable. I would skip the veg manchurian, it was a bit undercooked. The chicken spring roll however was quite tasty. The desserts were good and a nice supplement to the meal, but I probably wouldn't have gotten them if it weren't for the restaurant week special. Definitely planning on coming back here and enjoying more Indian food!

Indochen is a cozy restaurant in Alexandria that serves delicious Indian and Chinese food. My biggest worry about these dual-cuisine places is that they tend to make one cuisine better than the other, but it was a pleasant surprise to find this was not the case! We were able to come on a Friday night at 5:30 pm without a reservation and got seated easily. Every dish was so, so good, and I have no complaints about anything. My personal favorites: - Pork belly: The orange glaze was perfect (not too sweet, not too salty), and the pork belly was so tender and juicy. A great appetizer! - Chicken tikka masala: I think this was the star of the show! It's a classic, simple dish that you think tastes delicious everywhere, but then you eat this and wonder what you've been missing out on. The sauce had amazing flavors with the chicken, and this might be the best tikka masala I've ever had. - Butter naan: Hear me out about this one. They were so generous and gave each of us a whole basket of naan, and every piece was light, warm, and airy. I loved how well it complemented the entrees, which are very sauce-heavy. I wish more people knew about this place because it's so underrated. Come here if you can!

Favorite place in the world! THE best Indian! Our favorite dish is the tandoori chicken with cheese nan. Love the sauce on the vegetable Manchurian. The vegetable stir fry with tofu is my partner's favorite! Great ambience that's so welcoming. Fantastic staff. Location is beautiful and quiet, easy to find parking. This was one of the best Indian food restaurants that I have ever been to. I got the butter chicken (10/10) and the tiki masala (10/10). I also got an order of the garlic naan (10/10). The chicken was juicy, the sauces were delicious, and the garlic naan was perfect. I've gone back here a number of times and have had a great experience each time! I've only ever gotten take out from here. The food is delicious. I love that I can get a mix of flavors in the same meal. The Chinese dishes have a little bit of Indian flare which provides a nice depth to popular Chinese take out options. I will continue to come here for my Indian and Chinese. We have gotten takeout and delivery a few times the last couple months and it's consistently really really good. We used to love the butter chicken before the name change and it's still amazing! Tonight we had the dumplings (one set of lamb and one set of chicken, the crispy kale, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and garlic naan. Sooooo good. Our 3 year old cleaned her plate. I was super excited to try this place from the reviews. Unfortunately, the place didn't meet the mark for me. The biggest let down was that nothing came out pippin hot. Not the appetizers nor the entrees. I've never eaten dumplings at room temperature. Kale salad was not freshly fried as it was also served cold and seemed stale. Otherwise the appetizers would've been a hit. Ribs tasted like amusement park ribs, nothing remarkable. The fried rice that came with the ribs was pretty underwhelming and soggy. read more

We came to this spot spontaneously for Sunday lunch and it was great. Quick service and everything we got was delicious. We got the the chili chicken for appetizers and shared the biryani chicken pot (we were in a group of 3). We also had some garlic naan on the side. Great flavors, I would definitely come back here. It's also right next to a small park/walking trail if you want to enjoy that after a good meal. read more

Great concept, poor execution. Ordered Manchurian for an appetizer but it was undercooked and poorly seasoned. I could taste the cornstarch in every bite. Vegetable curry was mediocre at best as the curry was thick and stuck to bite sized pieces of broccoli and zucchini. Rice was a good mix between loose and sticky and the raita was thick and overly mixed with lime juice. The garlic and butter naan were thin and unfortunately not flaky. read more

Called the restaurant on Saturday to make a reservation. They told me they were booked until 7:30. I wanted them to take my name but they said at that time it wouldn't be necessary. We arrived just before 7:30 and could see about a half a dozen empty tables. We were told that it would be 15-20 minutes. We were told to sit at the bar. After 20 minutes of being ignored by the staff we left. We had watched other people come in and get seated. We had watched several tables pay their bill and leave so now there were even more empty tables, yet some were being sent to the bar and being told 15-20 minutes. We also felt that the redesign of the restaurant made the restaurant extremely loud. With so many other choices in the area, we probably won't try again... read more

I MEAN WOW WOW WOW!!! We just move here from Hawaii and by pure luck we found this gem!! Tonight was our second time here and we brought my mom who just flew in. We could have taken here anywhere to welcome here off the plane and we chose to come here. We felt the Aloha in the service and the spectacular food! The service is out of this world! Need some examples- I had to take a work call when the food arrived, when I returned they offered to heat up my food, or bring another hot dish! They brought extra sauce because they noticed we were scrapping the bowl for any leftover sauce. We didn't even have to ask for it! All the servers are friendly, polite, and attentive! The food- Let us just say that we were all saying YUM out loud for every single bite and so was this little 3 year old at the table next to us (so cute!). We recommend- the short ribs, the lamb dumpling, shrimp chow mein, chicken spring rolls, and the BUTTER CHICKEN with naan!!! oooo and the spicy margarita! Such different, DELICIOUS fusion food! You will not be disappointed by the old favorites, the exciting additions, the outdoor seating, the updated decor inside, the owners' hospitality, the novelty drinks, nice wine list, etc. Highly recommend the (I bet not served else where) melon chaat small plate, the pork belly small plate, and of course, the chicken rolls small plate. Loved the new chow mein, chop suey (tons of veggies) and fried rice, and of course my old favs of butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and naan. Nice that you can do small or large plates, or a mix. A "MUST TRY" whether you live in the neighborhood or are coming for a destination outing!!!! read more

Their food is probably the best Indian food in VA and its Halal. They are very friendly and respectful. Provide great service. Now they have a Chinese menu as well and its quite delicious. Moreover, I asked at the end of my meal if I could apply a $5 off coupon I received for my birthday. The server told me that the manager has to be on duty in order to apply the discount code, and that they already left. I found this bizarre, having worked with Toast POS systems before, I know this isn't a difficult thing to train your staff on. This was compounded by the fact that I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for another employee, ostensibly an assistant manager, to apply it, and she wasn't even aware until I flagged her down. Again, solid fare; always love when I get to stop in to Yunnan for that reason alone, so I still recommend it. However, I recently decided to try takeout for the first time, and I was honestly disappointed by the stark difference. First off, the butter chicken and tikka masala were indistinguishable--same flavor, same texture, everything. I double-checked my order thinking there was a mix-up, but nope. It was like paying for the same dish twice under different names. But what really shocked me was the mango lassi. For $6, I expected at least a standard-sized serving, but this thing wasn't even 8 ounces. It felt like I got a sample, not a drink. For the price, that's pretty unacceptable. I actually got into this restaurant by accident while one I was heading to was closed. And I am glad I found this. It will be my to go place from now on coz my 5 years old and 10 years old did not get tired of saying "FOOD WAS GOOD" till next morning.
