Calling this place an "Afghan restaurant" is a disservice. Yes, that's the focus but it feels more than that. Most Afghan bistros tend to fall into one of two categories; mom-and-pop fast-food type places with an emphasis on kabobs, or dinner halls that serve a more upscale presentation of the same fare. This is something in the middle. It feels fancy, but it also feels like an eatery/take-out joint. The decor doesn't even scream 'Afghan food'. I went with a filet mignon dish; yes filet mignon! Not kebab style, but placed on a rice dish. I thought everything was well above average. The food was excellent, as well as the presentation. Side-dishes were good too. read more

I ordered the chicken kabob and beef gyro. The gyro was super tender and flavorful. The gyro it self was very good, however the naan was on the chewier side, but that could have been because I did carry-out. The chicken kabob was also super tender. My favorite side was the rice. The rice was pack with spices and was delicious. The side I chose was spinach and it did the job. Additionally the green hot sauce was sour and spicy. I really like it over the chicken. I would definitely recommend this spot if you crave kabobs or gyro. read more

We had chicken kabobs and a beef shwarma (sandwich), and both were just excellent. The portions were also VERY generous, and we have half a sandwich left over! The staff were all really friendly and efficient, and made sure we had a great dining experience. And...prices were very reasonable, you totally get value for money here. Closing time on Yelp 10pm. Walked in at 830. Someone shouted from the kitchen that they are closed. Walked out and called their phone number. "What time do you guys close?" This place is not worth going to, unless you are here to take pictures and leave, don't eat their food. The only reason this place has two stars is because of the decor. As an Afghan this food is not good enough, seasoned enough, warm enough to be called afghan food. I had the chicken kabob and had high expectations from the reviews and pictures. Their rice is bland, barely lukewarm, and tasted crunchy. Their beans and chickpeas came directly from cans and were not warm. The chopped salad was just tomatoes and nothing else. The fries were frozen and not seasoned at all. The chicken was mediocre as it was cooked but not seasoned at all. The bread was 4 2x2 small pieces that do not have the luxury of being called Naan. Please find an actual chef. Til then, stick to drinks or aesthetic. I put pepper on everything hence the seasoning. read more

Saw this recommended in the Annandale Blog so visited the first time tonight. They feature a fast casual menu of Afghan and American favorites in a very pleasant yet simple setting. We chose the chicken kabob sandwich and the filet mignon kabob dinner. The dinner came with multiple sides; the sandwich was a la carte. Overall? Terrific! The meats were well-seasoned, tender and perfectly grilled. The sides were top notch--even the spinach that I often dislike. While their burgers look good, we'll be back to explore the Afghan side some more. Maybe the best kebabs we've had in the area. I wish I could give more stars. We randomly found this place on a two-day conference when the rest of our group went to a chain restaurant. The manager welcomed us into the most adorably decorated space. I've had Middle Eastern food before, but Afghan flavors were new to me. I got a chicken bowl over rice, and it was perfection. Every bite was different due to all of the ingredients but each one amazing. We actually went right back the next day for lunch again. You can never have too many kabob options, I always say. Coming into here, there was a nice modern decor, a difference from other casual kabob joints. They make it hang-out worthy. I came here and got the aushak appetizer, which you don't see offered at most Afghan casual kabob joints as well, the Aushak appetizer was actually good and I bet when they offer the Mantu (dumplings) it will be good as well. I got the salmon kabob entree, and I felt the spices/seasonings just weren't there. There wasn't a lot of rice/bread either, while this is good for folks trying to avoid too much carbs, other folks who come to expect a generous portion of rice and bread will be disappointed. The chickpeas came out cold and flavorless, tasted like it came straight out of a can. The eggplant was good. I came on a Sat night just before close and every table was taken, so this place is becoming fast popular. Overall though, I just felt that the meal lacked flavor, and was cooked unevenly. Phenomenal spot! This place suits someone "kraving" kabobs or even American food; it's a nice blend. We had the beef and chicken kabobs, eggplant, and French fries. Kabobs were succulent, eggplant had great flavor and consistency, and even the fries were good! All meals come with naan, a salad, and a side. Additionally, the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The ownership has prioritized hiring Afghan refugees and consequently providing opportunities for refugees getting back on their feet, an obviously worthy cause. Wow! Amazing flaffel, and delicious French fries. The clay baked bread is some of the best I've had and tastes really traditional, while the great tahini sauce and hot sauce has a rather unique taste that feels a bit more modern. The decor and atmosphere feels friendly and comfortable. It's is a little obvious that they have just opened. But in a few weeks once the staff is trained (I was accidentally rung up for an additional sandwich, but they caught the error after the food arrived and fixed it), this will likely be one of my favorite places to eat. Had the shrimp kabob and my son got the cheeseburger. The shrimp were horrically over cooked. They were so dry and chewy I could only eat 3 of the 6. Bread was cardboard, wouldn't even try the eggplant because of how it looked. The burger was so thin it should have been cooked for about a minute but it was burned to the point my son couldn't eat it. $31 for dinner that we threw in the garbage and made popcorn. Placed an order ahead of time and i still had to wait 20 mins. I got the filet kabob it was okay. It was tender and seasoned but a couple pieces weren't trimmed properly. The bread was gritty and it was really off putting. It had a crunch to it like it had been contaminated with sand. The spinach and chickpeas weren't the best but it was pretty good.
