Best affordable Balkan food in Northern Virginia!!!! Turkish Small Business that serves authentic Balkan -- Eastern European -- food. Go to: - Cevapi: Balkan Kabob Cevapcici grilled dish - Made to Order - minced meat - national dish of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and common in Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and Austria. 10 piece is the way to go. Flatbread, with chopped onions, (either sour cream or kajmak -- creamy dairy food similar to clotted cream, made from the milk). - Baklava: Sweet treats. Paper thin dough. Deeelish as a splurge. - Börek: pastries made of a thin flaky dough, such as filo with a variety of fillings, like meat (my fav) or cheese (second fav)! Brings back memories. A must try. Support this Small Business. Next door is a Balkan grocery store (imports, like chocolate bars). One table outside. Few chairs inside hightop. First come, first serve. No reservations. Mainly takeout. Get in to my belly!!

Balkan Grill is a small locally owned spot right across the street from the Huntington metro. In an area dominated by Latino food (which we eat our fair share of) it's nice to have something different every now and then. We've been to Balkan Grill a few times and everything we've tried has been good. Our favorites include the fried mushrooms, Adana Burger and cheese Borek. The baklava is also excellent. Whike you are there, don't forget to check out the little Balkan market next door. They have all sorts of imported foods and snacks that you won't find elsewhere.

Balkan Grill is hands down one of the best-kept secrets in Alexandria, VA. From the food to the ambiance, it ticked all the boxes with ease and flair. Don't be misled by the relatively simple name inside and out; the restaurant is home to some of the most authentic Balkan-style food in Virginia and beyond. Balkan Grill is truly a diamond in the rough. The hospitality is immediately felt upon walking in with the employees coming over to greet you with warmth and kindness, doing the same as you leave while ensuring you enjoyed every bite and sip. The food is nothing short of amazing, with cigars, fish, and soups that are top-notch, making the mouth water just from the strong aroma. Their Balkan-style specialty items are a must-try. The restaurant's decor gives you an instant feeling of welcome, evoking this sense of comfort that makes the restaurant stand out. The dining area has a pleasant enough feel, with beautiful and bright designs offset with warm lighting. Given the small size, which I appreciated, it gave a wonderful cozy feeling that if you were eating with family, you'd experience the same warmth and ambience. All in all, it's hard to didn't enjoy Balkan Grill. The service was swift, understanding and genuinely helpful, far from the more mechanical type that we could expect at this level. This restaurant genuinely outperforms its approachable and unassuming appearances, providing a wholly impressive experience for the most discerning eaters. For lovers of this European and Middle Eastern cuisine, the Balkan Grill is waiting for you, wonderfully delicious!

Ask the Community - Balkan Grill

Can you dine in at the restaurant or is it just to go spot?

There is limited seating available, but it is possible. There are two tables and six bar stools. In the warm weather they make two sidewalk tables available.

We all were so full by the end of our meal but wish we didn't so we could have more. You can tell everything is made in house with so many veggie toppings which I love!! You can get as much toppings as you want, either into a wrap, bowl, or salad. 10/10 recommend!! We also tried the cookies. She said to give them 6 or 8 minutes (can't remember) and they will be ready. Cookies are fresh fresh and always warmed up per order. They were perfect. Two condiments - harissa and garlic toum. Had a mix of drinks between four of us from beer to cocktails (gin, mezcal, burbon), and wine. Total was ~$430 all in (they include service fees). The endless bread is wonderful and the server was kind and attentive. I just didn't LOVE the meal, especially for the price. The zucchini was sliced incredibly thick and felt like it might as well have been baked. The hazelnuts added a solid crunch and fun flavor, but I wanted crisp. The asparagus was decent but nothing to write home about. Hummus was... Hummus. The carrot havuc was quite good but the beet borani was the crowd pleaser. The lamb kebob was my favorite part of the meal - perfectly cooked, rightly sized, and an excellent cut of meat. The ribeye was precut and sizable, with a fair number of slices without hefty doses of fat. It was perfectly seared and paired well with the condiments. All in all, it was a good meal that felt over hyped and heavily focused on bread. The restaurant itself is designed in a way that makes you feel like you're on vacation. The open hearth is awesome to see, but gosh is it toasty. Summer time might not be the best time to visit!
