Beef gyro and bbq chicken platter
Ebonie C.

Firstly let's start off with the manager Sayem, he was so accommodating, nice and warm and it made the experience here so much better. My platter was super delicious and the BBQ chicken was so flavorful as well as the beef gyro. The white sauce was super creamy and was the perfect accompaniment with the meal. They have refreshing iced teas and lemonades. I got the hibiscus lemonade and it was refreshing and not super sweet. I appreciate the fact that my drinks wasn't overly filled with ice to water my lemonade down. I also had the chocolate baklava cheesecake which was soo delicious and rich. Will definitely visit again!

It's been several years since going to a Halal Guys, so when on Duke Street recently and seeing this place, I stopped in for lunch. Service was friendly and "textbook" in nature! The place was clean and well-stocked. The food was just "ok." The lettuce wasn't as fresh as it should have been. The other items in my bowl were lacking a robust flavor, including the spicy BBQ chicken, which had a heavy BBQ taste (which was nice) and lots of heat (which was also nice), but that was it and the texture was questionable. The Baba ghanoush was pretty bland and had a nasty texture. The pita slices were wet/wimpy and bland too (they didn't need to be crispy, but they should have been a little stiffer and "dippable" in structure). Overall... With their basic menu and small amount of options as toppings, I doubt I'll be back anytime soon - Which is sad, because the concept is great and they could really do so much better.

Beef Chicken & Beef Gyro Platter

One of the best gyros out there. Was my go to spot in NY and thought it that would be the only place I can go. It's always a must.

Savory Herb Beef and Chicken Platter

I agree with the other reviews saying the food tastes bland. I ended up covering it with the sauce to make up for it, but even then the taste comes through. The most flavorful part of a bowl is the meat, and that was the least tasty for me. The gyro meat was simply okay, but the chicken wasn't good, and the beef was outright bad. The other toppings tastes normal, but the main part of the meal brought everything else down. I've had many good gyros before and they're a step above this and packed with way more flavor. For that reason, I do not recommend this place.

Chicken and lamb platter

I can't even count how many times I've gotten halal guys. I'm obsessed with it. After moving to NOVA and finding out there are multiple locations here my stomach is happy even if my wallet isn't. It sounds so simple; protein, rice, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, green peppers, some white sauce and a red spicy sauce. Put it all together and with the spices they use it's one of my favorite places to grab food. So so delicious and I haven't found anything comparable. I usually get the chicken but now they released zesty lamb for a limited time. The chicken is always a hit for me, but the lamb is really just as addicting. Their white sauce is amazing, never had anything like it! Be wary with the red sauce, that stuff is seriously spicy. I usually get 2 lines and can definitely taste the spice. Overall I love halal guys and have visited several locations in Chicago, New York City (had to visit the OG), and now the DMV area. This Alexandria location has been my favorite within the DMV. Employees are generous with the servings and always friendly. Will keep coming back!

We've ordered takeout from here a few times and its always really good! Every time i ordered the Chicken / Gyro Combo platter. This platter comes with beef gyro, chicken, rice, lettuce and tomato. Two times in my order, we received packets of white sauce but another time we didn't get any sauces. I'm not sure which is the norm but if you get a chance to get the white sauce, i would HIGHLY recommend. The sauce is creamy and seasoned and really ties the platter together. I found the hot sauce to be really hot so be careful when adding if you are more sensitive. When we ordered, i placed my order online and went in for pick up and it was super easy. Would definitely recommend!

Chicken and falafel platter

Their portions are huge! I got two meals out of this and it was $10. I got the chicken and falafel platter. The falafel was good for the first couple of bites, but then I got tired of the deep fried taste so I'd probably just stick to chicken next time because it combo's well throughout the platter. They give you an abundant amount of protein, rice, and veggies with pita. We also added green peppers and onions. Their white sauce is what adds all that yummy flavor to their platters. Beware, their hot sauce is actually really hot and this is coming from someone who eats really spicy foods. One of the staff recommended getting the hot sauce on the side since it was my first time and I really appreciated it otherwise my mouth probably would have been on fire. Staff was efficient and friendly! They were busy sanitizing and wiping everything down when we were there. They have signs for social distancing and also put enough space between you, the counters, and the staff. Would recommend for a cheap meal (or two)!

Dog bowl with a lot of lettuce in it.

This place is an insult to Middle Eastern food generally and Hallah specifically. The shock began when the server produced a tinfoil dog bowl and began filling it lettuce and canned diced tomatoes. On top of this was sprinkled some shredded "beef" which tasted like bland hamburger that was likely rejected at McDonald's. It was a culinary disaster that did not even rise to the level of fast food. And this for I paid $32.00, a price which was the final insult. Never again. If you respect Hallal and Middle Eastern food, you will not set food in this establishment.

Spicy lamb platter with hummus and olives added.

Ask the Community - The Halal Guys

Does gyro just mean sandwich?

It's called a gyro because the meat is cooked on a spit, which turns very slowly vertically while being cooked, then shaved / thinly sliced off with a knife as needed.

Went here to pick up lunch based on the Instagram recommendation of @yazieatsgood...THANK YOU!…read more As recommended, we got the shawarma on shrak - one chicken, one beef - both with all the trimmings: lettuce, onions covered in sumac, pickle, garlic spread, hummus...there were probably other things, too, but I've forgotten. You can also make your shawarma spicy with a red hot pepper relish. When they are preparing your shawarma you get to pick which items you want (kind of like Chipotle- but MUCH better). Both were absolutely delicious. The meat is delicately spiced and not overcooked- moist and flavorful. We got the combo which comes with fries and a soda. Fries are nothing special so you can skip them because the important thing to know is that these shawarma are HUGE! I could barely eat half of mine. It's a very good value for the price. We were going to try one of their platters and get the mixed grill which comes with rice, but they let us know that takes 15 minutes and we didn't have time to wait. Next time! It's a very small space, maybe 4 tables so it looks like most people get their food to go. The staff are very kind and patiently answered questions. Our shawarma came out pretty quickly, too. I forgot to take pictures- next time!

I got the beef shawarma on shrak and it was delicious, and it was such a huge and hefty portion that I could only manage half for dinner. The rest for a meal the following day. I have to return another time and try other proteins... but knowing myself, I may just stick with the same order because it was so good. I would recommend to-go order here.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant…read more This Yemeni/Lebanese restaurant is located in a small strip mall in Falls Church, definitely had to use google maps. The outside looks simple/plain, but the inside is just exquisite, sets the mood. The place was pretty much empty when we came (except for 2 tables), but I'm sure they are very lively at night, especially with the happy hour. We came strictly for the crème brûlée iced latte and the milk cake. The drink is made with whole milk, I wish I asked for an alternative/non-dairy milk, but otherwise the drink was perfect. I appreciate the barista/chef made extra effort to make it perfect, especially because I was recording/taking pics. I wanted to try the nutella or pistachio milk cake, but they only had saffron and fruity pebble, so saffron was the winner. It was pretty good, but I wasn't a big fan of the toppings. The customer service was good, the server taking orders didn't really understand our request, so he had to bring out the barista/chef making the drink. Otherwise, they both were attentive and friendly. There is some parking available in front of the strip mall, but I'm sure it can get packed during peak time. Would I return? probably not because it was too far and quite pricey.

For some reason, they were out of salad, which was a really weird thing, but also that meant that all of their salad dishes were absent. Thus, when we ordered the lamb Mandi...it just came with meat and rice.... The samosas were good. I would choose the one with the meat crispy on the inside with a little bit of meat filling. I was very impressed by the lotus latte. Keep in mind that it is just the biscoff cookie Latte, but it was very sweet and still have the coffee taste. What really came for was the saffron milk cake. We also got the fruity pebble milkshake because we misunderstood the waiter and thought he said bubble tea milk cake and we were interested. The fruity pebble milk cake is probably just good for the kids who like really sweet cereals--wouldn't recommend. The saffron milk cake was more fragrant, and to my friend it actually tasted sweeter. It's like a Tres leches cake but mixed with more middle eastern flavors and fragrances
