Chicken souvlaki platter.
Marianne C.

Have been here a few times before. Staff is great. Food is good too! I ordered the sampler. Loved it all, but the spicy feta is too spicy for me. I'll opt out of that the next time. My friend ordered the chicken souvlaki platter he really enjoyed it. We actually found a parking space in the back of the restaurant, a small miracle. If in the area, you can't go wrong with this restaurant. In the past, I've spoken to the owner and she's lovely. I assume she's still the owner, but I wouldn't know if the restaurant has turned over or not. If they have new owners, it's still a lovely place. I might add that it has a full bar, which is very surprising for such a small establishment.

Great service, authentic food and a beautiful ambiance. If you like Greek cooking you will love Vaso's. I will be back soon!

I had a delicious meal today at Vaso's Kitchen. I started with the bruschetta (delicious heavy garlic and delicious basil), then had the crab stuffed flounder which was delicately flavored but also so perfect. I finished with the Galaktoboureko. The whole meal was absolute perfection. The service was also lovely. It was my first time and I will be back.

Just had the worst experience. I'm new to the area & came across this place looking for authentic "gyro". My 1st pick up order experience was sublime! And with that I opted to make this place a staple of my dining out. However, today after placing $32 order just for gyro platter, I arrived home with NO OITA. How can you eat gyro w/o oita. I called to inform them of my displeasure & that I'm too far to travel back for the pita & was offered a refund for the price of the pita. I would've easy spent $100 a week here but this left me w/s "bad taste"!!! They don't appreciate patronage!!

Summer special: watermelon salad with chicken, feta, and strawberries
Melinda T.

First off, make sure you and your friends align on which Vaso to go to. There's one in old town Alexandria and we're not sure if they're the same ownership. Fortunately, they aren't too far from each other. That said, this Vaso was nice and quaint. There's outdoor seating if that's preferred. They weren't busy and were patient as our party of 4 sorted out the mishaps that had occurred. We never felt rushed. For food, we got a summer special to share and I got the flounder stuffed with spinach and feta. The watermelon salad was very refreshing! It had strawberries, chicken, and feta with a dressing on the side. The flounder was also tasty. Cooked well, and adequately stuffed! The only mediocre tasting thing we got was the complimentary bread basket which was not a big deal. Fast forward to the end of dinner was where the experience started going downhill. We had to leave and catch a show so we asked for separate checks as soon as we were about done eating. The waiter forgot, fine easy fix. Another waitress printed out the full receipt and then got intercepted by our waiter since he recalled we wanted it separated, cool. However, he was taking a long time and we were starting to run behind. I ended up going up to him after ~5 or so minutes to offer one card and we'd Venmo or whatnot after the fact. He was frantic, trying to separate the checks, and made it seem like he was nearly done and putting the check back together was going to be more work. I sat back down and we waited ~5 minutes watching him push the POS screen, print receipts, crumble receipts, and drop the plastic tray. Literally, it was a little painful to watch. When he got all the cards, he ran the 2/3 cards incorrectly. One card has the entire bill charged while the two other cards were also charged. It was a hot mess. Long story short, good food. Don't ask for separate checks. Don't go if you're on a time crunch. It was unfortunate that the experience ended poorly with everyone frustrated because it took over 20 minutes to sort out our check and ultimately made us late to the show. I do think Vaso's is worth trying out though!! Hopefully the tips above make for a more pleasant experiment for future patrons!

We came for dinner mid-week and ordered mostly from the appetizer menu; food was fresh and delicious for what we ordered. We recommend.

When my friend asked me to pick where I wanted. I said I wanted to visit the Mia's in Old Town, he laughed, and said, "Mia's? That's what you want?" Mia's was absolutely what I wanted. On a weekday, Mia's in Old Town was packed! By 6:30 p.m. it was hustling and bustling, he was surprised too, he had never been and he was impressed by the patronage. He doesn't eat what he calls casual dining. Although a little loud and tables close together, we managed to catch up, talk, and just appreciate time to reconnect. I would not recommend this as a first date but definitely date night worthy. Not dressy but perfect for work attire/causal dining. Ambiance is great, busy, live and popular. Service was excellent. Happy hour is available but only at the bar, it was so crowded we didn't get to pregame. Let's get into it! Bruschetta - Yummy Meatball - Yummy Chicken Parmigiana - Mine at this location was salty - sigh Lasagna - Loved it! He ordered the best thing IMO. Drinks fantastic! Would come back if in the area and needed an American Italian fix.

They offer a solid menu with weekday specials and discounts, which is a plus. We started with appetizers: the Caesar salad was good, but the meatballs were a miss. They came in a white sauce instead of the traditional red, were very small, and lacked flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the rigatoni. It looked great and arrived hot, but the flavor just wasn't there. The pasta was slightly chewy and not quite al dente. I added cracked pepper and ate some, but ended up taking most of it home hoping it might improve with a little extra seasoning the next day. My brother had the chicken parmigiana, and my sister ordered the branzino--both said their meals were just okay. None of us were particularly impressed. That said, the restaurant has strong reviews, so this may have just been an off night. One last note: please turn up the lights. The dim, moody lighting might be trendy, but at 7 PM on a weekday--especially with a crowd that's largely over 40--it just felt too dark. When guests are using their phone flashlights to read the menu, it's a bit much. Overall, a decent experience, but not one that wowed us.

For dinner, we ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese, which was rich and hearty with a slow-simmered meat sauce that clung perfectly to the pasta, and the Lasagna, layered beautifully with tender pasta, creamy cheese, and a deep, comforting flavor. For drinks, the Corso Sour was smooth and well-balanced with a slight citrusy edge, while the Espresso Martini was bold, velvety, and perfectly executed. Brunch was a different vibe but still fun. We did the all-you-can-mangia, $29 for unlimited small plates plus a main, which is such a good deal if you come hungry. For drinks, we tried the Pinkie, Nutella, Tiramisu, and Affogato martinis. Honestly, all of them were great, but the Pinkie Martini was the standout; light, refreshing, and dangerously easy to keep ordering. Food-wise, the Eggs Benedicto was good but could've used a bit more seasoning. The Eggs in Purgatory, though, completely stole the show; rich, flavorful, and something I'd go back for on its own. The Suprema di Pollo con Mozzarella offers pleasant flavors of butter, lemon, and chardonnay, though the chicken veers slightly overcooked. It's always been our favorite spot, not just for us but also to recommend to visitors. However, in the last couple of months we've seen that many of our all-time favorites (Tammy and Tommy, most notably) have apparently been "let go" after years and years of loyal service. Not only are we heartbroken, but their loss is evident in the decline in service seen across the restaurant and bar. Truly, if Susan weren't still there I'm not sure we would have kept coming back in the last few months. Additionally, we've been bringing our now 10-month-old daughter to Landini's since she was born; she made her first visit at just 8 days old, and it was a celebration for us: our new daughter, our family, celebrating her arrival in our favorite spot in Old Town. However, we were told just the other night that we are no longer "allowed" to be at the bar with her--in her carrier, as an infant (and myself as a breast-feeding mother, no less)--due to new rules/policies implemented by the new management. Keep in mind that this is the same management who made the brilliant choice to fire many of the best people at Landini's (and also we have gathered that this new management was taken from the Cheesecake Factory...seriously???). No other restaurant in all of Old Town has this issue, and I think it's unlikely that we return to Landini's. By firing excellent and loyal staff, jacking up the price of entrees and drinks exorbitantly, and making it so that (local!) families no longer feel comfortable and welcome at a decades-old family-run establishment...needless to say, I hope it's worth it for those at the top of the pyramid and that they're happy with their Cheesecake Factory-level of service.
