Came for the Sheeryakh, but had such delicious, authentic Afghan food! I'd give 4.5 stars for some constructive modifications to make in the future related to service, but overall amazing food! I left with a full belly and a happy heart. Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. I had the lamb chops with white rice and eggplant for lunch. The flavor balance was superb! I asked the waiter for a recommendation saying I liked lamb. He asked a few questions and recommended the chops. While there is a constant play of Afghan music, it was not so distracting as to interrupt conversation. Welcoming, modern Middle East feel. Ordered the rice with lamb in it. Comes with naan and was great with the sauces on the table. We ordered the side dish of eggplant as well. Shared between two ladies, it was the perfect amount of food. Reason for only 4 stars? The food came out so fast after we ordered that it was clear it was not made to order, but instead just reheated. It wasn't very hot, either. I also thought the amount of the lamb in the rice wasn't too generous. We each got one decent chunk with a bone and then a few other loose pieces. It was not really a hefty main dish. Sharing with another lady, this was fine, but it would not have satisfied if I'd been sharing with my husband. The classic ice cream was novel and tasty - unlike American flavors and texture. Everything was good including food and waiters/ waitresses service but the hotel manager's behavior was somehow wondering to me. While he seems professional and polite but during the whole time we spent there likely 3 to 4 hours I noticed he was greeting only some select customers most likely who spoke English and went table to table and ask if the food and service was good but he never ask us anything about the service or at least a simple greeting. As an authentic restaurant, I didn't expect this from their manager. While I speak the manager language I was expecting his welcome and exchanging some words with us.... This place is a hidden gem! Couldn't figure out where to go for grub. Afghan restaurant showed up and thought , "what the heck?" The food was fantastic!!! So darn good! Portions were generous. We shared all the food. Had the exceptional pistachio ice cream for dessert. Staff was gracious and welcoming. I don't know if this is a new restaurant or just a hidden gem, but I am glad I found this spot. I have already picked up twice from here in the past two weeks because it's that good. I plan to dine inside next time because the interior is clean and seems fun. But I would recommend carry out or dine in because the food is that good. The rice, veggies, and meat are all delicious. Last night I was looking for an Afghan restaurant and came across this. When I saw their Qabili Uzbaki on the menu I was sold. So I came here and ordered it. The service was great. They responded almost immediately to everything. I probably had my food within minutes of ordering. I got a huge plate of, more than I could eat. The rice was good with carrots and raisins, just like when I was in that part of the world. There was a leg (?) of lamb buried under the rice. I cut pieces off and mixed it in with the rice; the lamb was also good. As if this wasn't enough, I also got a huge piece of naan. It was good and by the time I left I was stuffed. They had a traditional Afghan dessert that I think is like ice cream that looked interesting. I think they had a whole area devoted to just this, like an ice cream shop, but it seemed closed when I went. Still, I'd recommend this place if you're looking for some good Afghan food. read more

I came in here recently on a lark. I had lamb kabob, naan, chickpeas, and tea. The servings were very generous, so I took the leftovers home and finished it the next day. The staff is very friendly and the service was reasonably fast. Afghan food is very similar to Indian food, but it is not quite as spicy, and there tend to be future vegetarian options. It is more like north Indian food than to south Indian food. The meal was excellent, with all of the ingredients being fresh. The prices were very modest for an excellent meal. The decor was ultramodern. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Keep up the great work. No complaints. read more

Afghan resturants I have been too. took my parents, two adult siblings and I enjoyed the family platter which was more than enough for the five of us. This is hands down the BEST Afghan restaurant in all of Northern Virginia. Let alone the best Kabob restaurant. The minute you walk into this establishment, you are greeted so warmly with the welcoming, contemporary ambiance. Very ample amounts of seating, very clean, and organized. All staff are extremely caring and accommodating of one's needs throughout the entirety of their dining experience. As someone with Afghan heritage but born and raised in America, this place feels like home. The flavors of each dish are incredibly authentic, and you can tell the chef takes his time. Believe me, I had him come to my table so I could thank him personally and let him know that his cooking is just like my grandmothers-- and I never had Afghan food from a restaurant that comes close to hers. The sheer yakh (Afghan pulled ice cream) was to die for. This is the only place in Virginia (perhaps the whole East coast-- with the exception of New York) where you can get made-to-order sheer yakh. I've only had sheer yakh in California, and it still doesn't come close to this. Everyone must come here whether you are of Afghan heritage or not. This truly is a cuisine that shouldn't be gatekept and it's something everyone can enjoy. You can also book a tea party experience with Afghan green tea and a variety of pastries. This is a very new concept that I am glad the diaspora is doing. Finally a unique and fun dining experience, and not your average Afghan kabob spot. Love it! read more

The place is very nice, the food is excellent, the customer service was perfect! It continues to be perfect when the Hispanic gentleman serves, fortunately for the owner it is getting very crowded and the poor gentleman has to work like a robot while the others are on the phone, incredible but true how they abuse! I have known this Hispanic gentleman since he opened the restaurant and he is always there with respect and a smile, but it is an abuse that sometimes he is the only one who has to be serving, passing food, cleaning tables, doing everything that the others should be doing! The rest is very delicious. My opinion is not to harm, it is so that they value their employees. read more

As I wrote to a friend... We had lunch at the Afghan Restaurant on Little River near Beauregard. The portions are large and the food is delicious. Of course, we are talking about American tastes so your experience may differ. We had the appetizer sampler and a combo of lamb & chicken kabob. The sampler had samosa and flatbreads. I was surprised because East Indians also have samosa. Perhaps one country borrowed from the other. Anyway, that was too much and we took some home. I had received some bad news today and my mind was sort of numb trying to process it. I forced myself out of my apartment but I wasn't feeling motivated to do anything or go anywhere. I drove around a little and decided to try Afghan Restaurant for the first time. I am so glad I did! Nazar set such welcoming and professional tone that echoed throughout the staff. I wish I had asked for the server's name, because he was equally as professional. I had the Aushak and the Borani Banjan. Both dishes looked as beautiful as they tasted. I should have taken pictures. The meal finished on a wonderful note with ice cream for dessert. There was a perfect amount of crushed pistachio sprinkled on top. As a woman particularly an African American woman I did not feel comfortable in this restaurant. I saw the sign and remembered the pulao rice. The restaurant was almost empty yet I waited for 10 minutes to place my order. I felt so uncomfortable but I really wanted the rice. My order was finally taken and I went back to get it in ten minutes. I did not know if I broke any rules regarding wearing pants and not having my head covered. I will not return. As for the rice. For dessert, I had firni, and Afghan dessert from milk with cardamom and pistachios. It was rich and flavorful. The owner was our waiter and he was very attentive. Awful service and an absolute lack of professionalism. I'll never visit this place again. Even when you call ahead to place an order, they still manage to delay it. I called 20 minutes in advance, yet I waited over 50 minutes when I arrived. Every time I asked about my order, they gave the same excuse--"just 10 more minutes"--only to make me wait even longer.
