The first thing that hits you when you walk thrubthe door is the aroma of curry and it made me giddy. There is a section that prepares many unique soups and sandwiches. The Gyro caught my eye and I had asked one of the workers if they use prepared gyro meat, or if they use the kind that they slice off of the giant loaf of lamb meat. UnfortunatelynI was told that they only use the processed meat. The brick oven pizza was interesting and they offer close to fifteen different ethnic pizzas. The Bakery section seemed cool and they offer several different flavors of Baklava- another one of my favorites. The items in the display didn't have a name or price so I wasn't sure about what was different about each one. I suppose I could have simply chosen a small baklava treat at random. I went the simple route and decided on a small lintel soup and I can't wait to try it when I get home.

For a light lunch, a friend brought me to Mediterranean Bakery & Cafe to try out their Arabic flatbread pizza / men-oushi. He told me to expect a wait at noon since they bake them to order. I put in an order for one cheese flatbread with extra cheese ($5.99) and wandered around the grocery part of the store for about 20 minutes before they called my order number. The pizza had a similar diameter to that of Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas. The bread possessed a fluffiness that one would see in extraordinary pita. The mild, gooey cheese proved savory without feeling too rich or heavy.

Love this restaurant. Feels like I was transported back to the Middle East. Authentic fresh flavors. Absolutely loved the spinach pies and flat bread. Tried the tabbouleh, cauliflower sandwich, veggie kebbeh and falafel, and everything was equally delicious. We catered and the chef was very helpful in deciding what to order that'll be fresh and appropriate for the event. Highly recommend.

Wow! Mediterranean Bakery & cafe is very impressive. Tucked away in the back of a shopping center the inside is like a grocery hidden gem. I ordered the chicken shwarma combo. The portions were very generous. The chicken was flavorful. You will also get a full size pita with your combo. The combo came with a side salad and a drink. The salad was a decent size and came with dressing already mixed inside of the salad. The grocery store had some authentic items and has a bakery section where you can get pastries and other items. The staff was very friendly and I could see why this place is a go to for your Mediterranean meals.

While we've only tried the prepared foods at Mediterranean Bakery, it's really been fabulous. The selection of sweet and savory pastries are great... Get the savory ones warmed up if you want a quick bite. They're also really affordable. While we haven't gotten a lot from the hot food area yet, the flatbreads we've tried are so delicious. Again, really reasonable prices, they're ready quickly, and taste great. We've had the ground meat and the za'atar and cheese, but it's another area where I want to try more of what they have to offer. They're nearby for us and have quickly become a go-to when we want something different and not spend too much.

I forgot to take a picture of the shop & my food but this place was ok! I like the market but the food was alright. I had the falafel platter & I'm surprised it didn't come with rice? But falafel was alright. Not sure if the other food is good but I liked looking at the all the interesting foods in the market area so that was enjoyable.

Situated conveniently in Old Town Alexandria, it's within walking distance of shops and strolling areas. They serve artisanal pastries and specialty coffee drinks such as the Pistachio Latte, Pumpkin Oatmilk Latte, and Honey Halva Latte, along with classic options like iced Americano and latte--perfectly complementing their baked sweet treats. The outdoor seating area is perfect for pleasant days. - Their Iced Americano was excellent--bold espresso that's both refreshing and satisfying for my caffeine craving. - The hot latte is also excellent, warming, smooth, creamy, and well-balanced - Honey Apple Cake, a popular fall favorite, is a moist honey apple cake base layered with a crunchy almond streusel on top, dusted with powdered sugar- a great textural contrast to the soft, fruit-filled center- and pairs well with their espresso drinks.

Delicate Hot Chocolate…read more I have long been an admirer of fine hot chocolate. Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression. My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit.

Eh, I found this place to be just okay…read more The inside is small with some neon lights. Late on a Saturday night, there's a mix of regular folks, parents with small children getting a weekend treat, and folks with the munchies who just *have* to have a cookie. Biggest complaint - there are several TV screens, but only one has pricing, one has drinks, and the other was just random shots of stuff they sometimes have. I wish one of them had "current cookie offerings" (it rotates) because otherwise, you have to wait until you get to the front of the line to see what there is, and then people are waiting for you to make up your mind. It just added pressure to what is supposed to be an enjoyable cookie experience. It's not a cheap place (it's a bougie dessert place in NoVa; what do you expect?), but the monster cookies are large and filling and easy to share. We got a half dozen for our family of 5 and that was plenty. We even got an Oat Milk brown sugar tea - it was fine. The whole place is vegan, which does add to the price point, but if that matters to you, this is a good place to get your cookie on. That said, I don't know if it was the lack of egg, or that the Monsters were under-baked, but I found those large cookies just heavy. The two I will vouch for were the chocolate chip (classic, can't beat it), and the cinnamon roll - I kept coming back to that one. The rest were pretty meh. Service was okay. We had to wait for the next batch of chocolate chip cookies to come out of the oven. I get it, though it took longer than estimated. The weird part was, in the whole time we were sitting waiting (and everyone else had ordered), the clerk handed me my half dozen box and I had to remind her of our drink. Sweet, but spacey. In the end, if you like fancy cookies and/or vegan sweet treats, you might want to give this place a try. Otherwise, you can get plenty of other desserts along King Street.

So Sunday morning, I pulled up to Ben'YaYs with the whole crew ready to see what the hype was about. When we walked in, there were already a few people inside, but it wasn't overwhelmingly busy. The young lady working the register was absolutely wonderful. She was patient, attentive, and even let my son take over the ordering process when he started telling her exactly what our family wanted. One thing I really appreciated was her recommendation when I started ordering multiple individual orders of beignets. She suggested that we get a box instead, which was actually the better deal and saved me some money. Listen, I love when somebody helps me spend less money without me having to ask! We went with a box of the original beignets plus two orders of the cinnamon sugar beignets. Since we got the box, we also got three dipping sauces. And if you have kids under 10, you already know that anything they can dip is automatically more exciting. Our order came out pretty quickly, and let me just say... THESE BEIGNETS WERE GOOD. Like, everybody was already talking about coming back before we had even finished eating. Four of the five people with me had never had a beignet before, so they had nothing to compare them to. But I've had beignets in New Orleans AND locally, and I can confidently say these held their own. Light, delicious, covered in that glorious powdered sugar, and the cinnamon sugar ones were a fun addition. The front area is on the smaller side, but thankfully there's a back seating area where you can actually sit down and enjoy your food. That made a big difference with my family. And let's talk parking because this is important! Street parking is pretty sparse, especially on a Sunday during church hours. Thankfully, there's paid parking behind the restaurant. I paid about $3, which was well worth not driving around the block 17 times looking for a spot. Would I come back? Absolutely. The kids are already asking when we're going again, and honestly, I'm not mad about it.

Love, love, LOVE this place!…read more We ordered a dozen Ben yay's and all the sauces: vanilla cream, chocolate, raspberry, and strawberry. My daughter bought them one time and brought them home - and they are not the same as eating them freshly made at the cafe! You have to eat them fresh!!! They're delicious even without any of the sauces. Can't wait to go back when I visit my daughter! 10 out of 10 for me! ENJOY!
