BABA GHANNOUJ

We went on a Sunday afternoon. There was a brunch prix fix menu for $38 per person. (See menu in picture) We had the following: (see pictures) -Lamb burgers smothered with cucumber labne and harissa toum and a salad on the side. The lamb was seasoned well and it was deliciousm -Baba ghanoush one of my favorite. Love the sprinkle of pomegranates on top -hummus was smooth and creamy -Kebab kerez (beef & lamb meatballs with a cherry sauce, and kataifi) this was delectable. Definitely would order this again. --bata harra (potatoes with Aleppo peppers and cilantro toum). Potatoes were roast to perfection. Well seasoned and not overly cooked. With crispness on the outside and soft and moist on the inside Just right. It paired well with the cilantro toum. This complimented the lamb burger. Dessert was almond baklava and cashews baklava (mini bites) The staff was attentive and friendly. It was fairly crowded on a Sunday afternoon; but it wasnt loud. Nice atmosphere.

My friends and I came here for a birthday, and we ordered a bunch of things to share. I honestly really like everything, especially the meat platter and rice with nuts. I also really liked the flaky pistachio dessert. Interior was pretty fancy, so I would def recommend for a nice dinner. Staff was accommodating and helped us order.

Ilili is an exquisite Mediterranean restaurant, specializing in Lebanese cuisine that can bring a person into a sense of tremendous well-being. Usually, we come here when we stay at the Wharf because we're seeing a show at the Anthem nearby. As I mentioned in my earlier review, the food is tops and there are many items to enjoy. If you're gluten-free, the Lamb -Stuffed Grape Leaves and bone marrow are class, while the Mekanek is excellent. If you are not sensitive to the gluten, then order the duck shawarma with pita pillows. If you're in the mood for dessert, the ilili candy bar is so incredibly magical. I could come here just for that with its luxurious chocolate and caramel flavors and crispy mouthfeel. Everything is freshly made, savory, and delightful, with a full blast of wonderful flavors that radiate Lebanese goodness. Their cocktails are splendid, especially their mezcal-forward Spring to Summer cocktail with goseberry cordial, chartreuse, and lemon juice. Also excellent standouts include the Olive You Margarita and Keraz Carciofo Negroni. Plus, the interior design is gorgeous with its atrium layout, greenery, and dark green colors that provide an intimate setting at night. Depending on where you're seated, you can enjoy great views and people-watching. Ilili is one to check out in DC.

Really enjoyed my dinner at Ilili. The restaurant is beautiful, and the service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and the pacing of the meal was spot on. You can tell they run a well-managed restaurant. The food was solid across the board. Everything was well prepared and flavorful. It's the kind of place I'd happily bring friends or family, especially if they've never had Lebanese food before. Overall, an enjoyable experience, and I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Ilili is absolutely GORGEOUS inside. The space is elegant, lively, and perfect for a girls' night or a special dinner. Between the beautiful decor and attentive service, it definitely feels like a restaurant that's made for a fun night out. That said, I thought the food was just... okay. Everything was good enough, but nothing really stood out or made me think, "I can't wait to order this again." Considering the prices, I was expecting to be a little more impressed by the flavors. I don't regret going because the overall experience was lovely, but I'd probably come back more for the atmosphere than the food.

SUCH a vibe. My date is vegan so this was the perfect spot for us to each get what we wanted in a trip to DC. To be fair, I'm a picky eater so we usually order a bunch of sides to make our own meal. We ordered two nonalcoholic drinks, a salad with pita croutons on the side, falafel served w tahini dip, potatoes served w cilantro dip, and duck sausage. My least favorite was the sausage as it tasted too vinegary. Favorite was the potatoes, so simple yet so perfect - and the cilantro sauce was everythingggg. Service was prompt, friendly and not pushy. There are staff to bring/clear plates so servers are encouraged to focus on other aspects of service.

Lamb belly

Came for brunch and was pleasantly surprised! The lamb belly was my favorite. baba ghannouj, rosti and grandmas toast were also really good and they gave a ton of pita. It also wasn't too crowded on a Saturday

Cheers!

I've been to illi MULTIPLE times and I always enjoy myself! The decor inside is beautiful, and the food is yummy too! Majority of the menu includes platas (small plates), so my friend and I just ordered a few plates of different things to share amongst us and it was really nice to try the various meals that way. We got: - hummus with jalapeños and crab falafel (and pita) - octopus - Brussels sprouts - Cod - Lamb filled grape leaves We had a nice time, and illi is one of those restaurants that I keep in rotation if I want a nice dinner out by the Warf.

I took my friend to Ilili to celebrate her birthday. The food was pretty mid, but the ambiance, aesthetics, and customer service were elite!

Aphrodite orchard
Danette D.

The food was amazing, they had the best hummus ever. I ordered the crab falafel hummus but they have a variety of flavors. I ordered the aphrodite orchard, which I was told is their version of the porn star....it was light and refreshing. For my main course I got the lamb chops which were seasoned to perfection served with a mix of turnips and potatoes. I also ordered a side of the ambered carrots and to wash it down I went with a Lebanese red ~ chateau kefraya. For dessert, I selected the Ilili candy bar so if you're a chocolate lover this is the way to go. Customer service was awesome, they are very attentive - I can't recall her name but I appreciated her recommendations. The aesthetics were warm, romantic and upscale elegant.

I was so excited for ilili. I'd been a few years prior for a private event and everything was fantastic. But I went with a friend for dinner and didn't love it, and given the price, it should have been excellent. I loved the vibe and service was friendly. It's pretty inside. I ordered the Keraz Carciofi Negroni, pointing to the mocktail version. I didn't even realize there was a cocktail version and that's what they gave me. Why you would a have cocktail and mocktail with the same name is beyond me. I got lightheaded and dizzy almost immediately, but I couldn't taste alcohol, so I thought it was because I hadn't eaten, especially as I felt fine once I started eating. So this also tells me that the cocktail version is poorly made. I was definitely charged for the cocktail version. We ordered the Lebanese Journey tasting menu. Nothing really wowed, except for the bread, baba ghanoush, and mouhamara. The mouhamara surprised me because it is usually not my favorite but this version was delicious. Lamb was tasty but not good enough that I'd return for it. For a tasting menu to just have two mezeh standouts, on top of an improperly made mocktail, I'd not return to ilili.

Always such a great experience dining at Ilili, whether it's for brunch with the besties or date night with the hubby! The meats are always cooked to perfection (highly recommend the "mixed grill for two") and I'm a huge fan of the variety of dips. The vibes are also immaculate and the staff is always so friendly!

Really enjoyed lunch at ilili last week. The service was honestly one of the best parts of the experience. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome without being too over the top. The food was good across the board. We ordered a mix of dishes to share and really liked the kibbeh, meatballs, and whole fish. The portions were solid, the presentation was beautiful, and everything came out fresh. The restaurant itself is also really pretty and has a nice atmosphere for a lunch date or catching up with friends. Not quite a perfect experience for me personally, but definitely a strong 4 stars and I'd go back again.

How many ounces is the lamb shank? Can it feed 2 people?

I have been there twice and had it on both occasions, shared amongst two. It was just enough. Of course we also had some other great things as well. But yes, eating it alone might be too much.

Hello would it be appropriate to wear formal attire here? Example suit/ dress shoes etc and gowns

Like all of DC, you can dress up or down and it's probably okay. It's a bit of an upscale feel, but attire ranges from smart business to flip flops for the pier.

Is this restaurant pet friendly?

No pets. Would call about service animals.

Does this have dress code? or casual?

No formal dress code from restaurant but patrons tend to be on the slightly dressy side.

Is this restaurant by reservation only or people can also walk in?

You can walk in however if there aren't any tables available you'll have to sit at the bar. We walked in and sat at the bar. A few other people at the bar but with us it was pretty full. Don't think it would accommodate another party. If you want a…

Is the restaurant kid's friendly?

Yes it is

Is any of the food halal?

Yes, all of it- my friend is muslim and they informed us that the restaurant is halal.

Is ilili like ambar? does it have an unlimited option, one price to pay to order multiple items on the menu?

No it's not like Ambar

Is there outdoor seating?

Hi Zeb, our veranda has retractable windows and a retractable roof. However they are only open weather permitting.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Yesss, reservations run out quick as well!

We started with a bourbon and a margarita-like drink, both of which were very good. The service here is outstanding our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The ambiance and decor are a little at odds with each other; the Med-inspired walls with florals and chandeliers felt like it was a little all over the place. Onto the entrees; I had the kefta kebab which was amazing and my husband had the lamb chops which were also quite good! We would return (and dress a little nicer) for a view of the water. I waited for about 6 minutes before anyone showed up and then another few minutes before being seated. This was probably because of turnover service between brunch and dinner. I sat on the terrace which had a beautiful view. It can be a bit toasty if you're facing the sun. For my drink did the Lumiere Du Sud. It was refreshing but nothing to rave about. For summer restaurant week I did the mussels, kafta kebab and tiramisu. The mussels were pretty good. Packed with flavor and sauce. I was a bit disappointed with the kafta kebab. I really wanted to try one of the lamb dishes but didn't want to pay the up charge without trying anything first. The kebab was a bit too salty for me. The portion size was perfect though. The tiramisu was good. The waiter was nice. He described the menu well and checked in frequently but not too much. While I enjoyed my dinner, it didn't wow me. I'd likely come back to try happy hour and check out the penthouse.

Albi Overall Rating:…read more(4/5 Stars) Everyone loves Albi, so my expectations were sky-high for my first traditional tasting menu. While the food was very good, I actually preferred the Sofra Series dinner with Chef Brandon Jew. This menu felt a bit safe and repetitive, especially after what felt like an all-lamb tasting by the end of the night. 12 Course Tasting Menu $165 * Starter: I don't like olives or radishes, so I left this one to the table. The consensus was positive. * Course 1: Oysters with trout roe? Consider me converted. This combination needs to stay in my life. * Course 2: Lamb-stuffed bread is one of my favorite things on Earth. The dipping sauce added just enough freshness to balance the richness. * Course 3: A pea tartare was not on my bingo card, but here we are. Unique, refreshing, and unlike anything I've had before. The mint and lettuce pairing made it even more memorable. * Course 4: Pretty, cheesy, citrusy, and delicious. Sometimes that's all you need. * Course 5: Savory hummus is the superior hummus. Add seasoned pita and I'm a happy camper. * Course 6: I'm not a grape leaf person. The lamb outside of the wraps, however, was excellent. * Course 7: My favorite course of the evening. That said, I've had another version of this dumpling at Albi before, and I actually liked that one more. * Course 8: Tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth lamb. No complaints. * Course 9: I genuinely don't know what happened here. The flavors and textures just didn't work for me. * Course 10: Yet another lamb dish. At this point, I was experiencing lamb fatigue. The cinnamon was also more aggressive than necessary. * Course 11: Warm, comforting, and exactly what I wanted from dessert. * Course 12: Ice cream is rarely a bad decision, and it was a lovely way to end the meal. Service: The service was exceptional. If I'm being nitpicky, ordering another round of drinks took a bit longer than expected. Otherwise, the staff was attentive and knowledgeable, delivering the kind of hospitality that keeps people coming back. Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions. It was literally in the alley, and was giving Covid setup. Definitely would not recommend the outdoor area to anyone. There was no music, the decor was fine but again, looked very subpar and you could tell everyone else that arrived and sat outside after us had the same thoughts. Now to the food. I will say all of it was good, but for the price? I could find another Middle Eastern adjacent restaurant in DC for less money. It was a little outrageous in my opinion. We did choose the tawle experience. The dips with good, and came with endless flatbread. But it was interesting how some of the portions were huge and then others felt like they were skimping. We got huge portions of pickled vegetables and a giant salad, but then when it came to the shrimp kabobs we ordered, we got 5 pieces of shrimp. I will say the steak portion we chose we large, but then again for dessert, it was just a half mason jar size of a chocolate mousse to split...It was just interesting. Several of the staff knew it was our anniversary and they could've given maybe an additional dessert or a glass of champagne but nothing. Again for a restaurant of this caliber, you would just expect more. I say all of this to say, we did have a gift card that covered most of our $300+ meal. The only miss for me personally was the ribeye gyro but that's less about Ala and more about me finally confirming that gyros and I are just not meant to be. The food gets a solid 5 stars. The seating situation however deserves a conversation. Yelpers were directed to either the bar or outside with no other options offered. The weather cooperated and it wasn't a bad experience outdoors but when the hostess specifically stated that Yelpers sit at the bar or outside, that landed differently. The restaurant appeared beautiful from what I could see and assuming the inside was as lovely as it looked, that felt like a quiet form of segregation that the restaurant should probably revisit. Guests are guests regardless of how they found you. Our waiter was attentive and never forgot about us which is always appreciated. Overall a great experience with one note worth addressing. I'd return but hopefully at the main table next time.
