Came here for the three course brunch and loved the calamari and the pork truffle cream pasta. I absolutely loved the pasta, I think the brunch deal overall was really good and I'd look forward to coming back.
I have not visited this restaurant in a year or more. It's even better than before. I had a late lunch so the restaurant wasn't extremely packed; however it was a nice ambiance and upscale vibe. The waitstaff were very accommodating and attentive. The menu was different from when the restaurant first opened. The food- delicious! J ordered the Pasta Mista- Chef's Choice Pasta, which was amazing. Each dish had its own distinct taste. It consisted of Pappardelle Bolognese, Rigtoni alla Panna and Spinach Fettuccine, and each was served in a nice sized bowl. The trio was a nice change and a way to get to know new dishes- it was very filling and very delicious!
I came here for Restaurant Week lunch ($25 for three courses) and everything was excellent! They have a $37 express lunch that is available year-round. It's a short walk from the Farragut North/West metro stations. For my appetizer course, I ordered the arancini (comes with two pieces). The arancini was perfectly light, crispy, and cheesy - the arancini were so delicious, I had to remind myself to be ladylike! There was also bread service. Each table is set with olive oil for the bread, but the sauce with the arancini was also great for dipping the bread in. For my entree course, I ordered the gnocchi served in a porcini sauce. The gnocchi was light and pillowy, and I love mushroom everything! I'm always curious to see how restaurants "skimp" on portions for Restaurant Week, and I don't feel like Il Piatto does that here. For dessert, I had a choice between the ice cream (chocolate or vanilla) or sorbet (limoncello or mango). Now normally, I'm a chocolate ice cream kind of gal, but I couldn't resist the limoncello sorbet - and it was absolutely the right choice! It was refreshing, lemony, and cleansing to the palate. It was the perfect finish to a lovely meal. Service was exceptional. It was speedy, thorough, and attentive - across the board. Shout-out to Alberto for providing excellent service. Tables were cleared efficiently. The restaurant has an upscale but also approachable ambiance. I enjoyed my lunch here. And not that you need it during lunch/dinner, but there is free WiFi. I'll be back!
Came for lunch with two friends on a cold afternoon. We had a reservation and arrived around noon. The place was pretty much empty First problem was we were offered a table right by the front door. We told them it would be cold there, so they moved us to the table one away from the door. We took that table. I was freezing the entire meal, as was one of my lunch-mates. It was really uncomfortable. We ordered our entrees. I ordered the Il Piatto salad and asked for the salmon option on top. When my salad arrived, it did not have salmon on top. I assumed that the server likely didn't hear me, because the entree comes with smoked salmon so he might have thought I was referring to that as "with salmon". The problem here is that after we were served our entrees, we didn't see the server at all until well after we were done eating. No check in - no nothing. So I had no opportunity to request the salmon. The entrees themselves were "ok". My salad was good, but there was so much smoked salmon (it seemed like it must have been a half pound layer filling the bottom of the plate). Way too much smoked salmon. I ate less than half of it and the rest went to waste. My lunch mates said their entrees - the Gnocchi and the Spinach Ravioli - were "fine" but not something they would order again. When we were done with our meal, we sat and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited for the server to come over. Finally, after 20 minutes of sitting at the table with empty dirty plates, the server came and offered the check. We had made the reservation indicating we were celebrating a birthday and no mention was made of it at all. We told them we wanted to order a dessert. He brought it and we told him it was a birthday celebration. He smiled, removed the dessert, said he'd be right back, and returned a couple of minutes later with the same dessert with a lit candle and the plate saying "happy birthday". Good attempt at recovery. Overall, the food was fine, but not great. The service was disappointing and, I hope, a one-off. Sitting us at the front door on a cold day when the place was empty was just rude. Don't expect to come back.
Weird tipping policy... 20% added forcefully to "increase the wages", but then told those fees are not tips, and still listed a tip line? My lovelies, if your costs increased, reflect that in the effing prices listed on the menu. Be honest and stop camouflaging the cost of what you sell.
Food- Short rib ravioli 4/5. I finished it so quick- it was so so yummy! I do feel like the pesto was a bit overpowering, however, I still thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Calamari 4.5/5. DRINK- Princess peach 5/5. Loved this drink Service- 5/5. Our waiter was so attentive and made sure we were well taken care of Ambiance- 5/5. Dim lighting and soft music. Great place for a good catch up or a nice date! Overall I would 100% come back! I'd love to try the other food and drink options! Totally recommend!
My husband and I stopped in while we were riding scooters through town. Glad we did! We got an authentic Italian vibe when we walked in. It was clean and fancy. The menu looked amazing, but we were here for a small bite. So we stayed towards the appetizers. We ordered and ate at the bar. Meatballs and Caesar salad. Both are highly recommended by us!! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about not only menu items, but the city as well. He gave us great tourist suggestions.
Nice cozy place, attentive staff; an Italian restaurant in DC Downtown. I was on a business meeting at this place, we were three people, each one ordered a non alcoholic beverage, I ordered the limoncello, then we ordered the express lunch, which was a 3 course meal- an appetiser, entree, dessert. I ordered Arancini, Eggplant dish served with linguine pasta in red sauce and strawberry sorbet. The portion size, especially of the appetiser and the dessert can be slightly better but considering it's meant to be a meal for one, won't complain. Ambience though is not outstanding but not bad at all to come for a business meeting. If in the area again, would like to come back.
Food was okay. Service was good. Ambiance was nice. We had the calamari which was a very small portion to share. I ordered the paparadelle bolognese I believe? It was flavorful but too salty for my taste but my friend enjoyed it.
First, our waiter Erick was amazing - very attentive and fun. Always kept our glasses full. I don't drink so Erick was nice enough to serve me other drinks without changing our table's menu. There is an underground parking garage right around the corner on the same block as well. Everything we ate was great! No complaints at all from the whole table.
I ordered a Caesar with no croutons and it was definitely interesting. There were radishes, cucumber slices, onions, and Bibb lettuce added to it, possibly to make up for not having croutons. I would say the homemade dressing didn't have that much Caesar flavor. What blew me away was the seafood pasta with gluten free tagliatelle. The noodles were cooked perfectly, held their shape, and had a large amount of sauce on them. There was an overwhelmingly large amount of seafood provided and it was all cooked perfectly. Nothing was chewy or rubbery. Lastly, I thought it was weird that there was an auto gratuity added. Overall, the pasta carried this review for sure and I will be thinking about it for days to come.
Solid spot for a tasty, extremely filling lunch! I visited Il Piatto for their express lunch with a few coworkers, and it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of our project. The express lunch is a great deal -- $40 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert -- and the portions are remarkably generous. There's a pretty wide variety of options for each course, but I settled on the poached pear to start, followed by the eggplant parmesan, and ending with the mango sorbet. The poached pear was outstanding! The pear was super flavorful and sweet, but not overly so. It went wonderfully with the slightly bitter raddichio, crunchy walnuts, and creamy goat cheese in the accompanying salad. It was a refreshing, but still satisfying, way to start off the meal. I similarly loved the eggplant parmesan; the eggplant was tender and savory, and it was topped with a very generous portion of melted cheese. It came with a side of linguine, which was solidly al dente and all-around delicious. It was a huge portion, so I was quite sleepy and quite full for the rest of the day. The sorbet was a great, light way to end the meal after the richness of the eggplant parmesan; I loved the mango flavor, and the sorbet was perfectly creamy, refreshing, tart, and not overly sweet. The overall ambiance was delightful, and the staff was incredibly friendly. The "express" lunch was not remarkably "express," so it really only works if you have at least two hours to set aside for lunch, but the staff was super attentive and kind.
Went for brunch with a friend and both the food and drinks were amazing. There are so many different flavors of mimosas to order, and our waitress was super quick to give refills. The downside is the pricing. There's some really tiny text at the bottom of the menu about a 20% service fee, which my friend and I had assumed was auto-gratuity--it is not. So if you come here, keep in mind that the price reflected is only 83% of what the actual total will be. It was honestly so souring to see the bill hiked up 40+% at the end because of fees and tips, so I'm not sure I would come here again.
Delightful brunch! Good location, parking was a little tough, but found a spot. Great seat by the window! Food was really good! My Italian Eggs Benedict was good, could have been a little warmer. My friend said the Tiramisu French Toast put her in a sugar coma (good one though). One thing that made this a 3 star instead of 4 - the waiter was very very attentive and then he disappeared for quite awhile. Other than that - nice place for brunch! read more
Will keep it short and sweet. Came here for a quick healthy Saturday night dinner and was l taken back to 1980's Washington DC in the best way possible. Being on a health kick, I ordered the I'll piatto salad and subbed smoked salmon for shrimp. The salad was simple yet well seasoned. The six shrimp sitting atop were cooked and seasoned perfectly. read more

Went for the $35 bottomless mimosa and 3 course brunch. The appetizer, dessert, bread, drinks were all soo delicious!! The aracini appetizer was a table favorite. Panna cotta tasted a lot like key lime, which I liked. Mimosas had mango and passionfruit flavors. Some friends at my table didn't like the benedict, so I wouldn't recommend that. The pasta was good but maybe too creamy after my appetizer. read more

What an amazing dining experience! Every single thing was absolutely PERFECT. We got there a little later at night and were immediately accomodated. Our server was probably the best I've had in years. Proper serving skills, very attentive and made us feel like we were dining in the fanciest restaurant ever. Shoutout to him (I can't remember his name well but I think it was Ray). Our food was also cooked perfectly and served in a timely manner. Sauces had a nice balance of flavor with the pasta. Appetizers were delicious too. The panna cotta was incredible. 10/10 experience at this place. read more

I came here for brunch to continue my birthday celebration and absolutely loved it. We opted for the bottomless mimosas option (of course) and it also came with a 3-course meal. I loved the choice of flavors they have for the mimosas. My favorite ended up being the lychee. Now onto the food. To start, my friend and I split the arancini and the calamari. The calamari was good, but the arancini was delicious. For my main, I opted for the linguine pomodoro and I added shrimp to it. It was good, nothing too special, but tasty. And it did the job because I was starving after celebrating the night before. The staff had forgotten that someone in our party ordered the tiramisu French toast. My friend was fine with canceling it, but one of the managers insisted that we try it so she brought it to us at no charge. I can't even think of the words to describe that French toast. It was just decadent. Sweet delish-ness. It should really be offered as a dessert. That's how much of a treat it was. Get it. For the actual dessert I opted for the mango sorbet since the other option was chocolate mousse and chocolate is not my jam. The sorbet was also good. At this time another manager named José came out to greet us. After hearing it was my birthday he insisted on bringing me his favorite dessert. It was crème brûlée cheesecake and it was delicious. I was so full at that time I could only eat a few bites, but I highly recommend it. Il Piatto is easily one of my new favorite brunch spots. I will be back. read more

I came for Sunday lunch and it was relatively busy. Despite it being busy, service was good and we received all of our drinks and food very quickly. As for food, the arancini app was good, however, definitely not worth the price for the portion size. We only got two balls for $13 which is honestly a little crazy. Both pastas we ordered were also not bad, but we felt that we've had better for a lower price. Overall, service is good here, but the food is just meh. You're better off going somewhere like Grazie nonna where the price for the portion is much more reasonable, and the food tastes much better. read more
I came here with a group of 6 friends, and I definitely recommend this place for a bottomless brunch! It comes with a 3 course meal and multiple flavor options for mimosas. You get a pitcher of a different flavor that you choose one at a time. They had options like pink grapefruit, strawberry, lychee, and passion fruit. They definitely were generous when pouring the champagne. The food was also great! The Arancini was my favorite. For $35, I do think you're getting more than what you pay for. read more
Had my eye on this place because of their $35 bottomless brunch deal - ten rotating flavors of mimosas, three dishes of your choice! We liked the mango, kiwi, and classic oj, but they were all great. I ordered the arancini, the salmon eggs benedict, and the chocolate mousse. The arancini was so good - the red sauce is a typical marinara/vodka sauce, and the arancini themselves are perfectly lightly fried. The benedict was also very good, the hollandaise has some paprika in it. Finally, the mousse was a perfect complement to the brunch. My friend got the ice cream, mint chip was the only option at the time. Also, you get complimentary bread. The drinks hit very strongly- be careful! Don't be nervous there would be too much food. Definitely need to eat all of it to balance out the drinks... Our waitress was Maria and she was so attentive! Loved her, she never let our glasses go empty. As far as the vibe, the indoors was a bit quiet and dark earlier in the morning (we got there at 10:30) but filled up through the morning. We sat outside, where the music was a bit louder, and it was perfect, so get an outdoor reservation if you can! Definitely would recommend this place. read more

Absolutely the best! I was in town for a conference and was just walking around exploring the area. I came across Piatto and the food looked delicious on the Yelp app- and boy- they did not lie! The service was excellent! My waiter was kind, timely and responsive and made me feel welcomed. The food was also top notch. If you are looking for a nice meal knowing that you will walk out happy, make sure to check it out. read more

Came here for bottomless with a group of nine people. We were seated right away because we had made a reservation. Service was a little slow throughout our brunch, which we expected based off of other reviews. During the two hours we got four rounds of mimosas but we had to call the waiter over each time. Nobody was coming in to check on us. I started with the arancini which I would definitely recommend and get again. It's a on a really creamy tomato base that was delicious. For my main I got the tiramisu French toast, I had seen some of you saying that it was soggy and cold. But honestly, I think that's how it's meant to be served, the cream is meant to be cold and it tasted delicious. I also tried my friend rigatoni, which was great as well. For dessert I ordered the chocolate mousse and my friend order the Panna cotta so that we could each try both. I really like the lemon, Panna cotta, maybe even better than the chocolate mousse which says a lot because I'm definitely a chocolate girl. Overall, I would come here again. But I do think that service needs a little help. read more

I am happy to say that all is not lost on me with italian food. I have not had a really good italian meal at a restaurant to even consider to add it to my dinner options until now. II Piatto is an italian restaurant downtown located 2 blocks from the White House. I came here for Valentine's day dinner and I could not believe how happy my palate was. We had made reservations and got seated immediately when we arrived. We ordered a 3 course meal. To start off, my first meal (appetizer) was the Arancini...these are 2 fried risotto balls stuffed with cheese and served on a bed of tomato creamy sauce...these are amazinly good. For second meal, I had pasta stuffed mushroom. For third meal (main entree), my meal consisted of grits with pork meatball sauce. This meal was very delicious and tasty. I paired my meals with a glass of Spanish red wine. For dessert, I choose the limoncello panna cotta. It's a cream, sugar, with gelatin dessert. It is similar to a pudding or creme brulee. It is pure goodness. Overall, great food, drinks and service! Would definitely recommend. read more
We came here on Thanksgiving for their Thanksgiving Day pre set menu and it did not disappoint. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the drinks were tasty. The service was good and we overall had a great experience. Can't wait to come back to try the normal menu! read more
Great place for bottomless! I will say that sometimes there are overly drunk college students but that in itself was pretty entertaining. I honestly felt a little bad for the staff since we were near a table where the kids knocked glassware off the table..twice! And threw up. The staff is very friendly and come around often to refill. I will say that the main course I chose was a little bland but there was so much food I really can't complain! We sat outdoors as it was a nice day and it was very nice! read more

LOVE this new-ish spot in DC! For those of you looking to enjoy classic Italian fare, definitely make sure to swing by. Must try dishes include... 1. Burrata Mozzarella - served with a generous amount of Prosciutto di Parma 2. Their chicken parm - SO good!!! The portion was huge, and I loved that the accompanying linguine pomodoro was basil heavy. It was all so beautifully cooked, too - crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside - easily one of the best, if not THE best, chicken parm I've had in the DMV yet! 3. Tiramisu - because I have a serious sweet tooth, lol. And BTW, they have a tiramisu french toast for brunch!?!? If you try it before I do, please let me know how it is! Excited to try more of their menu soon - will definitely bring my mom the next time she's in town! =) For more on DC eats, make sure to check out my blog, friends: www.nomtasticfoods.net. read more

Il Piatto is located Downtown just a short walk from the White House. I visited with a large group of friends for an early dinner. We were the one of the few patrons and we given great service by the staff. The staff was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu and bar options. We shared a few bottles of red, white, and sangria (the new red, white, and blue I'm told). I did however like their interior design. This place would be great for a more serious dinner option. Their food was good but nothing distinctive that made me want to ever come back. We had a handful of their appetizers however, I mainly stuck with the bread, oil, and vinegar combo. (always a good option). I did have a meatball and it was good. For dinner I had the gnocchi. I am a huge fan of gnocchi and after a trip in Italy I will forever be looking for this option in Italian establishments. This gnocchi was okay. It honestly felt like I was eating mac n cheese. A friend of mine did have the Linguine Pescatore and loved it. For dessert I had a limoncello which never misses the spot. Not sure if I would be back on my own but if you are looking for Italian food in the D.C. area this may be a good option. read more

Walking down the street headed to another restuarant we come upon this restaurant. Having already walked 15 minutes in the heat we were hot and tired of looking for our intended spot. We arrived at the best time around 3pm and was seated immediately. We were a party of 6 and we started ordering immediately. Drinks, appetizers followed by our entree. All the drinks were good especially the lemoncello martini. For appetizers we ordered arancini, meatballs, calamari and pickled cabbage. The arancini was delicious and the meatballs was a tad bit undercooked for myself. I didn't eat the calamari but the rest of the table said it was good and was enjoying through out the meal. I ordered the chicken parmigiana for my entree and it was decent. I asked for more marinara sauce as my noodles and chicken was dry. For dessert I order the cheesecake. It was light and fluffy, not creamy and heavy like I'm used to. All in all we had a wonderful time. The service was wonderful. We spoke to the chef, the general manager and even took some photos for a photographer that was there doing some work for The Post. read more

Let's start off with the fact that they had over 8 flavors of mimosas to choose from and we tried them all DELICIOUS. . The staff never let our glasses go empty and had the food out speedy fast! I would definitely come here again especially since the Brunch is so affordable! . Arancini - 10/10 I mean fried balls of cheese? What is not to like!? The tomato cream sauce was the perfect sauce I do wish there was more on the plate but I'm a heavy sauce person so I digress Portobello - 9/10 mushrooms in a creamy gorgonzola cheese sauce sounds like a good idea and let me tell you, it was! I'm not a Mushroom person but I did quite enjoy this. . Tiramisu French Toast - 8/10 this was SWEET. I have a sweet tooth but shared this as it was a bit too heavy for a Brunch entrée but did taste like tiramisu! So exactly as described . Smoked Salmon Benedict - 9/10 this was absolutely delicious and the home fries were perfect! . Limoncello Panna Cotta - 10/10 this was my first time trying Panna Cotta and no regrets! It was bright and refreshing . Chocolate Ice Cream - 10/10 exactly what you would expect in a chocolate ice cream read more

Decent Italian food! My friends and I stopped by for lunch on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty. It's gorgeous inside so I was pretty excited! There was free bread for the table, which was fine, and for my entrée, I ordered the Melanzane Parmigiano (eggplant parmesan). It was pretty good, but nothing super impressive or distinctive. Service was really attentive and checked in with us regularly. Overall, a decent meal, but nothing that stood out to me. Their brunch menu looks pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if I'd come back for their regular menu. read more

We really enjoyed this place on its opening week! It's a lovely high end atmosphere and a great location. The prices are affordable for the area and type of restaurant which will keep me coming back! The servers were still training and working out the routine but everyone was very helpful and the food was very good. I particularly enjoyed the eggplant Parmesan. Look forward to returning! read more

Had a lovely brunch at this new spot, and would definitely recommend. We ordered, "make your own Spritz", the chicken parm, and a seafood linguine. Oh and a prosciutto/burrata app. I loved that they brought out a bottle of La Marca, and little carafes of soda water and Aperol so we could mix to our preferred portions. Also, it was only around $35 which is a steal! The chicken parm was huge and came with pasta, lots of cheese and perfectly tender. The linguine noodles were cooked perfectly and just had the best flavor. If I go back, I'd strongly consider ordering the exact same thing. The burrata app was very flavorful, but a smaller portion. Which was fine because they also bring you fresh bread. Our waitress was nice and attentive too. read more
