I know, I know, I know. It's "just" an IHOP but this is my grandsons's favorite restaurant. We went to a hockey game today and I let him pick our lunch spot so, of course...here we are. The menu is like 8 pages long. All the classics. Blueberry and buttermilk pancakes, chicken and waffles, omelets and a ton of "non-breakfast" things like burgers and fajitas. Our waiter was friendly and funny. Our food came out quickly. Drinks never ran dry. The restaurant is clean. Of all the IHOPS, this is a solid one. read more

IHOP has been disappointing since last two times (earlier in upstate NY). We have been coming here out of nostalgia but it's getting worse. Shrinkflation has hit the chain it seems. Won't recommend this location at least. We started off with coffee and OJ, followed by an Egg White Omelette and BYOO (Jack & Cheddar, Hash Browns, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes). Coffee and OJ were fine. BYOO was good but the EWO was too soggy and eating it was a mess. Weird because the other omelette too had water oozing contents but that one was well made. IHOP is our go to for breakfast or brunch when down in the Maine Mall area. Even when there is a lobby full of waiting guests, the staff is quick and friendly. This visit, no wait at all. We were seated in the back where there were no booths, but the table was clean and tidy. Our server was nice and efficient- great since we were rushing to eat before a scheduled appointment. I had a really disappointing experience at IHOP this morning. From the moment we walked in, our server, Alice, greeted us with an attitude and didn't say a word--no welcome, no smile, nothing. It felt uncomfortable right away, and unfortunately, it only got worse. We noticed the table next to us had already been seated and were eating when we arrived, yet they were never given the check during the time we were there. Meanwhile, our check was dropped off just five minutes after our food came out--before we were even halfway through our meal. The message was clear: eat and get out. It felt like we were being treated differently, and I can't help but believe race played a part in it. I've never felt more unwelcome at a restaurant. We went for dinner, it was quiet and we were seated right away. I ordered ice water, a spinach and mushroom omelet and wheat toast. My husband ordered coffee, a breakfast sampler and wheat toast. We both received burnt toast, I didn't eat mine. There was no jelly on the table and our server never came back to check on us after we received our food. I wanted a refill on my water but we never saw her again until we were finished with the meal and she brought the check. Other than the toast the food was good. We didn't care for the server. My son and I have gluten sensitivity allergies so we ordered from the extremely limited "gluten free friendly" options on the regular menu. Not safe for celiacs. It was explained to us that surfaces are shared with gluten food and cleaned but that separate pans were not available. The menu said omelettes are made with a wheat-based batter to make them fluffy. We ordered take-out from IHOP. Oddly, I had to pay for my meal over the phone. It caught me off guard when I said I'd like to place an order and I was asked if I had a card handy. They must have trouble with people ordering without picking up? Regardless, I followed through with the process. When I went to pick up my order it was ready at the time they said it would be but the person who took the order down forgot to record my name (even though he asked me for it) so they had to ask me what I got, in order to find it. No biggie. I was still in and out quickly. The food was packaged nicely in sturdy, reusable plastic containers with lids. The bag included condiments and prewrapped utensils with napkins. As we started digging in, we noticed there were no spoons. My son's kids meal came with applesauce so we needed one. My daughter went in to ask for a spoon, was handed a packaged utensil and came back to the car only to realize they handed her another fork and knife set. She wasn't thrilled to trek back in a second time, but she did. I got the wrap. As I picked it up I quickly realized they put the wrap in with the crease side facing down, with the toothpick protruding out of the opposite side. So basically the toothpick was serving no purpose and when I went to pick up the wrap it flopped open everywhere. I had to shove the contents back in and try again. I opted for onion rings instead of fries and I wasn't impressed. They were big rings and a generous portion size but they were so big and crunchy it almost hurt to bite into them. They were the crumb coated kind, not the beer battered, which I personally prefer. The kids all enjoyed the burgers, fries, and nuggets. You can't beat the cost of their kids meal (only $3.99!) but they definitely have some operational improvements to make. read more

Went for brunch. We were seated quickly. We had Abby for waitstaff. She is the cutest and nicest! Good waitress! My friend ordered the senior Sampler which we love and I decided to try the NEW Eggs Benedict with bacon and bacon jam. I've never tried bacon jam but my friends love it. We have been coming to this IHOP for years now and have very little to ever complain about. In fact, we drive 40 minutes to this one despite having one in our city because the service and consistency is that much better. The service is always fast. While there is always a line and a wait, the restaurant is large so they turn over tables rather quickly. Everyone is incredibly friendly and ensure assistance any time you need it. On this visit, our party of 6 all ordered something different on the menu and the food didn't disappoint. And despite being busy, it felt like it only took a few minutes to deliver the food after we ordered. The portions are large and the price is right. The environment is fun and friendly. My late husband loved their pancakes better than homemade, I don't like them in general but I could always find something I did like, their menu is huge so there is something for everyone! The atmosphere always reminds me of a large diner. Wow! This was my 2nd time in my life coming here and I don't remember being treated so friendly in a restaurant in a very long time. The greeter was smiling when we walked in and was so happy to seat us, just walking through to get to our table, the staff all said hi and they all had smiles on their faces. That was very refreshing to see. So many places we go to now, the staff just look miserable - it was great to see this and it made coming here a fun and great experience! We had our granddaughter with us (she's 2) and they treated her so nicely. I really love a waiter/waitress treat and interact with our little ones in our family and all of our kids - again, makes for a great overall experience and the dining so much better. We were waited on by 2 people, they were a bit busy. Both were sooo nice. Because there were 7of us, including our littlest one, the male waiter had to reach across because we were in a booth, but he just didn't reach across, he let our kids know, very politely, he would say, excuse me and sorry to reach across, to give someone their refill or whatever it may be. I liked that and the kids liked it too. First time table manners from a wait staff has been done in a long time. Again, that's what it should be. So of course the atmosphere was pleasant, just because from start to finish they were smiling, upbeat and polite. High five to them all. We also loved their fireplace decorations. It was an autumn look, but with an empty chair, with a single rose on the seat and an American flag on one side and the other side a POW flag... Very touching and glad to see them honoring those that did, have and sadly will give themselves and their lives so others can enjoy the simple things in life... Thank you... Oh and the food was great! Large menu, but my husband did say their burger section was smaller than about a year ago, when he was there. But their breakfast menu - Huge!! Definitely everyone found something to eat! Two of our party members had burgers and they both said they were good and the rest got breakfast entrees. One of our kids has always wanted to try chicken and waffles and IHOP has it. He was in 7th heaven. Oh and their chicken - Awesome!! My daughter and I had the build your own pancake breakfasts - Yum! Our other son had the breakfast sampler, because he wanted too many things on the menu and this satisfied all his cravings and he loved everything on his plate. Stopped in because of the long wait at Becky's up the street from us. We didn't expect to be happier with IHOP, but it was by the mall and we were in for a day of shopping. However we were very impressed! I had an order of simple Buttermilk Pancakes (I know, BORING!) and a side of two Potato Pancakes. Jess got a meat Omelet with Unlimited Pancakes and a side of Hash. All came out quickly (the place was packed, it was Saturday morning) and steaming hot. Our server, I forget her name but, she was super attentive, friendly, and was more than happy to help us with substitutions to make sure we got a little bit of everything we wanted. Great start to our day! I should also mention the waiting room was full, but we waited under our quote time and the staff did a great job of getting tables ready quickly and guests in and out. It's pretty hard to mess up breakfast and IHOP did just that. They served me basically raw eggs. I asked for over medium eggs and the white part was still slimy and undercooked. The pancakes were good, and right now they are unlimited so that was nice. I just can't get past the raw eggs. Eggs are not difficult to mess up and being as this is a breakfast restaurant they should be able to make eggs correctly. Service was great! That is the only saving grace. read more

For a restaurant that bases almost100% of its advertising on establishing it as a Breakfast venue, this was noticeably poor on many levels. First of all, it wasn't busy. Maybe 60%, and there was none of the nubbub or pace of a restauarant that was in the weeds. So, here goes 1. Took way too long for the order to come out. Probably 15 minutes, which is twice as long as even a busy restaurant venue. 2. Two Eggs instead of three. I forgot to ask, but wasn't upsold either. 3. Two ridiculously small sausages, instead of the larger more impressive breakfast sausages you would get at Stacks. 4. Pancakes came out first on a plate so small as to not allow me to put syrup on. Had to wait for the Egg plate, and then had to eat all that before I transferred the pancakes to the larger plate. 5. Egg Plate was delivered seperately a few minutes later. Server said she hadn't wanted to let the pancakes sit. Hilarious, because the Eggs were barely warm, and the sausages were even cooler. Here somes the coup de grace! When first approaching the table, there was a pot of coffee already preset. I thought that was a nice touch, and sent a good message for both level of service and value perception. So imagine my surprise when I asked for my wife to get another Ice Coffee to go, we were informed that would be extra, as there were no free refills. Unbelievable. Oh, one other thing. My wife actually like Iced Lattes or Cappucinos. IHOP does not do either one of those. Come on guys! I drove right by Cracker Barrel. Yikes. Won't do that again, and I will NEVER darken the doors of an IHOP again. And I am 'in the biz'. I will tell EVERYONE I know to steer clear of this schlock operation. read more

This morning (11/07/2021) again I went to IHOP in South Portland to have a lumberjack breakfast before working on the installation of a paver patio in my backyard (hopefully I'll finish it today). Although I arrived early, it was busy; a happy, buzzing sort of feeling filled the place as people came and went. It was good to see how nicely busy they were: our restaurant sector has suffered a lot during the pandemic. I was seated quickly by the nice people at the front desk. I ordered eggs over easy, hash browns, bacon, and harvest grain and nut pancakes, and all were delicious. I find the harvest grain and nut pancakes really stick to your ribs - perfect for a day when I'll be installing pavers. Aidan waited on me again. Just like yesterday, he was quick and courteous. I heard him chatting with the woman who was seated behind me; she told him that she was a seamstress who used to wait tables, and she told him what a great job he was doing. It's nice that she took the time to appreciate him and his work. I noticed that other people in the station he was working were freely chatting with him about various things including the Patriots game with the Carolina Panthers later today. Great job from everyone at IHOP including the bus staff, dishwashers, and cooks. read more

Straight to the point, made recommendations, offered the sauces and sides that paired well with my order! I came in for breakfast, after arriving an hour early for work. Although I was early Chris made sure I had what I needed in a very timely fashion! My meal was cooked to my preferred temp, considering I order the steak this detail is very important. I paid when Chris brought my meal out & Just as I say to my customers (in my serving job) "although you paid, if you need anything I'm still here for you." I love that service man! I should have known better, but it was my husband's choice. I don't like pancakes, and their omelettes leave much to be desired. I decided to order strawberry crepes. The crepes were just thin pancakes. Very soggy, no crisp. The topping was not inside, as a crepe should be. There were 3 or 4 soggy pancakes folded in triangles with strawberries on top that were still very cold. I'm sure it was frozen strawberries put in the microwave for a short time. Seeing that I was starving, I ate them. Afterwards I felt pretty nauseous. I couldn't wait to leave. I don't care how much my husband loves IHOP, I will never make that mistake again. read more
