Great food, cocktails and service. I don't think people have found this place yet but they should.

Took my mom here while she visits Portland, and we were pleasantly surprised to learn they were participating in Restaurant Week! We shared the street fries to start (YUM) and I opted for the French onion soup as my starter. We then each had a fish dish, the haddock almondine and stuffed salmon, and we ate in silence because that's how delish they both were. Finally we had the chocolate lava cake which was just okay, but that's fine because we were so full from the rest of our meal! The staff is incredibly friendly, and though the space is small it wasn't too loud or cramped. And the igloos outside looked so cool - would definitely be worth visiting on a snowy day! read more

At it again but this time for Valentine's Day and my birthday. Made a reservation for 5p then needed to move to 5:30p and they made it easy to do. Arrived early and asked for bar seating which from the look on their faces was a welcome comment. Sat at the end corner and met Luke the bartender again and his co worker Ulysses who was interesting to talk with. I ordered the Cranberry Paloma and hubby ordered his favorite the Whiskey smash. For dinner we each had the Haddock chowder (there a bit of confusion, they thought we were going to share one order. We wanted one each). For dinner I had the Scallops with sweet pea puree and quinoa with Roasted fingerlings cut, and mushrooms. Hubby had the Pork Tenderloin with parsnips puree and red cabbage slaw. Everything was so so good as always. We want to thank Yelp! For introducing us to Thames, we met first as a Yelp event and have been going back again and again since. They are now open almost two years and I am happy to say that the word is getting out. When we left the outdoor bubbles were filled and all but one table were filled as well. Excellent food!! Amazing Haddock chowder. Brussels Sprouts, Fries, Burgers. Everything our party of 6 ordered was delicious. Fantastic cocktails and great service. The lovely dining room is clean modern and comfortable. The tables are spaced a reasonable distance apart. Best of all are the igloos. You can reserve an igloo and have privacy for your group. They are completely transparent. With heaters and blankets it becomes a magical place to eat in the winter. Snow falling? Amazing. Our new favorite place. read more

I am giving it a great, though I have not actually had a full meal experience. I have been a couple of times to grab some apps and drinks with friends and most recently a colleauge. The staff are great, very attentive and professional. I love that they have outdoor seating options and being across the street from the Gateway, it is not not a bad view. They are not very busy, most likely because they are off the beaten path, but well worth the walk or use the valet parking if you visit. (It was free when we stopped by.) I do plan to return before summer ends, and hope they bring back the winter globes for outdoor seating. read more

We were passing through Portland and stopped for dinner along the way. We order the calamari to share which was very good and perfectly cooked. They also had oyster specials that were amazing!!!!! The kids split the ribeye which was perfect for the 2 to share. I had the pasta special that was good, but a little over sauced (almost felt soupy) It had a great indoor and outdoor seating. And it was really nice to still be able to get a class of wine for $12. Our servers were lovely! And everyone was very friendly. The place could be a little loud as it got busier. We were very excited to try this restaurant. Service was just ok, server never asked us if we wanted another cocktail or asked if we would like dessert. Fish and chips again, just Ok. Not special. Beet salad had a very odd dressing that I couldn't get past. Potatoes looked old. Deviled eggs were dry and rubbery. I was so hoping this restaurant would be a go to.. but Sadly NO. Stopped in for a glass a wine and the atmosphere was very bright and welcoming. They have lots of tables and a large bar. Service was friendly and quick. The glass of wine I had was decently priced and good. We didn't have any food but I would be back to try some as it looked really good. read more

I sat with this one for a while because I really wanted to like it more than I did. But in the end, Thames Landing just isn't for me. I can see the appeal for tourists -- the waterfront location is undeniably great -- but in a city full of incredible food and drink spots, you have to put in more effort than this. It feels like they're leaning way too hard on their location and letting everything else slide. We went on a Friday evening with a reservation, and from the start, things felt a little off. The staff seemed flustered even though the place wasn't that busy. The space itself was... not it. Sterile, borderline corporate. It was hard to tell what vibe they were even going for. If there hadn't been a lobster frame on the wall, I wouldn't have guessed we were in Maine. Even getting to the bathroom felt like walking through an office building; genuinely confusing and like walking through a maze. As for the food, it was mostly disappointing. The cod croquettes and deviled eggs were good, and probably the best part of our dinner, though the eggs were wildly overpriced for what amounted to one and a half eggs. The duck confit salad was really bad. It came served on a plate (even though the server said it was supposed to come in a bowl), which made it impossible to mix. It had random chunks of what tasted like canned cranberry sauce and barely any duck. No dressing, either. Just... not good. The description simply did not match what I ended up getting. My partner's burger was better, but still not worth the $20 price tag. Fries were meh. Cocktails were the one bright spot -- actually well made and fairly priced. If we go back, it'll be for drinks. That said, they served the vermouth over crushed ice, which immediately diluted the flavor... rookie mistake. And that kind of brings me to the biggest issue: the disconnect between what the restaurant seems to think it is and what it actually delivers. Prices suggest a polished, elevated experience. But everything else -- the service, the ambiance, the execution -- says otherwise. Our server was sweet and clearly trying, but very inexperienced. She didn't know what a Negroni was, or what vermouth was, and seemed unsure about most things. At the end of the night, she brought our check while we were still eating, which felt rushed. I paid on my phone and let her know, and she said nothing... but two blocks away, the manager came running after us saying it hadn't gone through. Thankfully I had the receipt to show her we had actually paid, and she was kind about it, but it was uncomfortable and unnecessary. A quick double check from the server would've saved everyone some awkwardness. I don't think Thames Landing is totally hopeless -- there's potential here, especially with that location -- but there's a lot of work to be done. For now, it's not somewhere I'd recommend, especially if you're a local. read more

My husband and I went for a date night and had a fantastic meal. We both had the fish and chips, which was a HUGE piece of very crispy & flavorful haddock. The fries appeared to be hand cut and fried to perfection with good spice. I liked the coleslaw which was homemade and did not have mayo base. I also had a seasonal cider martini which was very tasty. This is my second time at Thames Landing. I can also recommend their chowder and smash burgers from my prior visit. Although the interior is small, they have outdoor lighted & heated igloos with couches and blankets. A fun seating choice! We will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Thursday evening for appetizers, desserts, and drinks. We weren't disappointed. I ordered deviled eggs and my wife got shrimp cocktail. Both were delicious. I ordered a nice local beer and my wife ordered a nice Pinot Grigio. For dessert I got raspberry ice cream and she got pecan pie ice cream. They were both excellent. We planned a family and friends gathering in one of the igloos outside of Thames Landing right before Christmas. The igloos are beautifully decorated and very comfortable and come with extra blankets, but the heater did not work well and we were all still pretty cold during our two-hour stay. Ugh! There was a limited menu and we ordered a lot of food, charcuterie, calamari, meatballs, clam chowder, burgers, and drinks. Most of the food arrived hot, but the calamari and one of the chowders were lukewarm at best, a bummer considering the price point is high. Overall we had a great time with good company. I had hoped in the back of my mind that this could have turned out to be a lets-do-this-again next year kinds of thing, but I don't think so. Bummer x2. read more

We enjoyed our experience at Thames Landing. We just arrived in town close to 3PM and were looking for somewhere to have a good lunch by the water. Parking was a bit tricky on a Saturday but we snagged one of the last spots in a nearby lot where you pay to park. When we arrived, there was only one other party in the outside seating area and the inside was fairly slow as well. Not sure if the website clearly states this but they also only serve brunch during the weekend before dinner. We weren't expecting this and they were kind enough to let us pick off the lunch menu. We ordered the haddock chowder, lobster roll and crispy haddock sandwich along with a couple of drinks. I'm not a huge soup/stew/chowder person but the haddock chowder was delicious. Creamy, salty from the bacon, potatoes and the haddock was so fresh and melted like butter. Lobster roll and haddock sandwich were great also but the chowder stole the show. I hope they get busier during dinner hours because this is great food in a perfect location. read more

Amazing location, atmosphere, food AND service! My husband and I decided to try Thames Landing this evening for date night and it did not disappoint. We started with the haddock chowder and fries. Both were delicious but the chowder was really on whole other level. Hands down the best I've ever had! For our entrees, my husband had the salmon with quinoa salad and I had the citrus half chicken with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Everything was absolutely scrumptious! We ended the evening with blueberry pie, panna cotta and cappuccino, which was the cherry on top of a beautiful night. I can't wait to go back! read more

If you can find a spot on street, take it and save yourself $15. The service was great, the menu was limited but enough options for everyone at the table, including those GF. I gave it just a 4-star as the portion sizes were small. Ordered a seasonal salad with salmon and the salmon was delish as was the salad but it appeared as a side salad with a piece of salmon. We will be back as there are domes set for outdoor seating and looking forward to hosting friends in the dome. read more

As a frequent visitor to Portland I am always looking for restaurants I haven't tried yet and I found this place and decided to come here with some friends. Space is really cool, has an industrial feel and large windows. Service was friendly and we were sat right away (we had a reservation but probably wasn't needed). They have cocktails/beer/wine and even have Prosecco on tap which I thought was really cools. Portions are very generous, could not finish my meal. Their menu is American with a good amount of seafood options. I think this place is mostly hurt by their location, not sure many people know the restaurant is there. A nice spot though, would definitely recommend. read more

Picture all glass views onto Commercial Street as well as the other side, the ever developing city buildings towards Fore Street . You may have seen Thames 's novel futuristic igloos last wintertime . These are heated nests outdoors that seat a group. This is a special restaurant located in the Wex City part of town of upper Commericial Street where the children's choo choo trains meet the working seaport . We've had their steak their fish their pastas , its all fresh and delicious! A full service restaurant with an intimate enough feeling , The bartender and waitstaff are all first class! Good food, good service, went there with Portland Nate, who had not been to the location nor knew the restaurant existed. Evidently fairly knew close to the terminal for the cruise ships. The Portland locals surprised us and got lobster rolls, which were excellent and serve two different ways and I enjoyed the haddock fish and chips. Staff was very good. read more

We were in the Old Port for the night for my wife's birthday. We checked out of the hotel and made our way to Thames Landing for lunch. We had never been there but I always use YELP and read the reviews before choosing a place. There were some very good reviews so we went. Great little place. Our daughter met us there and we all loved our drinks and meals. They ordered the expresso flight of 4 different kinds and they were full size martinis presented on a nice drink stand. The were all very delicious. Luke was our bartender and we found out he is the son of the owners so a truly family-owned establishment. He was great to chat with and very personable. My daughter got the avocado toast, my wife got the muscles and I got the smash burger. Everyone LOVED their meals and that was probably one of the best smash burgers I have ever had. We also got an order of their special fries which were AMAZING. If you are ever in the Old Port area do yourself a favor and go! read more

First day in Portland and were wandering around and stumbled on this place. Inside decor is pretty basic, nothing special. After we were seated and looked at the menu, we realized it was brunch, which isn't what we wanted. It's awkward leaving, but we told them we didn't want brunch and they said they could accommodate us with lunch. Our server was very sweet and helpful. The menu had a few salads and sandwich from which to choose, plus a special. I chose a Rachel, which I enjoy. We didn't wait long at all and our food was delivered. This Rachel was different because instead of sauerkraut it was red cabbage. This was not my favorite Rachel. I guess I like the sauerkraut better as the cabbage was crunchy and not as flavorful. With the price of the sandwich, you would think you would get chips or fries, but fries were $6 extra. Service was great the entire time. Not my favorite sandwich, and wouldn't likely return. read more

We were visiting from Rhode Island/Mass with our hockey team and walked to this restaurant in the snow hoping they could accommodate our larger party, even if we had to be split up. The manager sat us all together right away. The server was great, always checking in on us and showing a lot of patience with our kids. Every worker was so nice and accommodating. I held our class reunion at Thames Landing on Saturday night. There is no place on earth that could have been more accommodating. We used their private room and it was perfect. The food was amazing as well as the service staff. The restaurant is beautiful and has parking right next to it. I had many questions leading up to our event and Renae (the owner) was quick to respond as well as being friendly and polite. This restaurant is a must-visit venue. I will be returning soon, this time to take in the wonderful ambience, delicious food, and to interact with their professional and friendly staff. HIGHLY recommend! Based on reviews I had high hopes for this place. I was sorely disappointed! Decor and ambiance are clean and modern. One server seemed nice - but she was not serving us. The other, our server, seemed disinterested in tending to us. She was somewhat gruff, with a demeanor better suited to a roadside diner. She also did not seem very familiar with the menu. My entree was bland with some flavors just downright unpleasant. My plate arrived not at all hot. In fact, the pea purée was actually cold. I don't know whether the kitchen was to blame, or our server. The stew was oddly sweet. Truthfully, no one in our party was particularly pleased with their meal. We visit Portland regularly for its foodie scene. This one is off our list. read more

While very modern in decor it turned out to be quite relaxed and comfortable. The four of us enjoyed everything we ordered: Vegetarian Acorn Squash plate, roasted veggies salad with grilled chicken Caesar salad with salmon Pork tenderloin (the only slight disappointment was that the pork, while tender, was surprisingly bland. The sides that came with helped a lot) Desserts included a terrific blueberry pie( with and without a la mode), Creme brûlée The entire staff was friendly and attentive. Special treat was a great conversation with the owner. If we lived in Portland this would definitely become one of our go-to places. One extra sweet touch--included in a visit is free valet parking. Our valet came into the restaurant near the end of the meal: he needed to leave so he pulled our car up front and brought in the key. read more

Wow, a NEW swank restaurant with reasonable prices and big portions? In Portland?? We miss the pricier Helm, but we are really happy Thames "landed" here. It has always been a somewhat spartan, polished space, but the outdoor patio with comfy chairs (!) and trimmed down menu gives is a warm casual feel. Service is super attentive, and the owner is there to help, as well. We shared mussels in an excellent wine sauce, beet and goat cheese salad, and devil eggs, all delicious. Mains were huge: perfectly cooked haddock fish&chips, salmon, lentil mushroom ragu, and roast chicken. Wine list had choices under $40. The beer list included some local drafts, but gin list was all from away. A Two Fat Cats blueberry pie topped it off. Can't wait to try brunch! read more

We had a nice time here for dinner in an igloo and our server Megan was excellent. The Igloos are a very cool idea but it was absolutely freezing. Made it kinda unenjoyable to eat out there. It said online they were heated but the small heater in our igloo definitely wasn't up to the task. Food was pretty good. Chowder was amazing, that was a highlight. read more

While visiting family out on Peaks Island, I had an hour to kill before the ferry passage and walked down the waterfront towards the Eastern Promenade for a drink. I came across Thames Landing next to Navis Cafe, past Ocean Gateway on the left. I am from the area and have loved Navis for a long time. I had never been to Thames before. I sat at the bar and had a bright glass of the the Neboa, a white wine from Spain. At 14 dollars a glass, there is the typical markup on the bottle, but I was still pleased. They also have several specialty cocktails that looked good. The bartender was cute so I decided to stay for a short meal. My seared salmon and Broccolini on a bed of lemony lentils came out fast and hot. It was delightful. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was simultaneously casual and upscale. This restaurant is great addition to Portlands food scene. Prices are a little high, $50 tab for my wine and meal, but the quality of the experience does not disappoint. They have outdoor igloo tents/ lounge areas available on their large patio. Heated in the winter, AC in the summer. Brilliant! The restaurant has a medium sized dining room with lots of families at the first seating, date nights, as well as a secluded private dining area for larger parties. Islanders, tourists, and native Portland residents, add this spot to your list for a place to enjoy a beverage and a good bite. I will definitely return next time I visit home. read more

For the service and hospitality alone, this place deserves over 5 stars. We were on a bachelorette trip, a party of 13, and headed to do an 8pm bike tour around 7:20pm. We were a bit confused as where to go and a nice gentleman (maybe the owner or a manager!) came out of the cafe next door to help us and offered us the restroom before the tour. We chatted with him for a few minutes and he insisted we come sit outside on the patio and enjoy a drink and some appetizers before the bike door. We were pressed for time but he reassured us that they would be able to accommodate us within our 30 minute timeframe. All 13 of us got beautifully crafted cocktails, delicious espresso drinks, and a few appetizers to pick on while we waited for our bike tour. The outside patio was beautiful and the lighting was just perfect. We were so thankful they were able to take care of us in such a timely manner. Each person we met, including the other patrons, were so incredibly kind and wonderful. I would go to this place 10000x over. read more

Place is a nice setting with rude workers and owners who didn't seem to want to fix an issue that arose while dining there. I'd say STAY AWAY but that's only my opinion. I'll never go back to spend my money that's for sure. Be Better and do better read more

We have three young children and dining can be a challenge at best. It's hard to find a place with good food where we don't feel like they are just trying to get us out. Thames landing checked all the boxes for us. The outdoor seating area has a beautiful, grassy spot for cartwheels and somersaults while waiting to be served and the food was excellent. Everyone was kid friendly and as a bonus we got to see the train leave for its evening ride. If you're looking for a good burger or lobster roll don't pass this place up! read more

We were up for the weekend from Boston and found spot on the edge of the Old Port. The service was outstanding and we loved the food. A small menu of well executed dishes. We want to come back dine in the heated globes this winter. We will be back to visit Renae and team! read more
