We really enjoyed our meal on their covered porch! Very quick service and friendly wait staff. Waterfront views from the covered porch. I had the lobster roll and my husband had a chicken club. You can order the lobster roll with mayo or hot butter, and I chose hot butter, but the lobster meat (and bun) still came cold - so just a good thing to know for those who may expect a warm Connecticut style when ordering the butter. The club sandwich was insanely delicious, highly recommend. We also ordered coffee and dessert - they are known for their Maine blueberry cake with cream cheese frosting (it tasted like a blueberry muffin) and their Whoopie pies/ whoopie pie cake. We also ordered the chocolate cream pie which was delicious!
We lucked out on a (small) lot parking spot. 45 minute wait ... worth it! Idk if I've had more lobster and clams here overall or blueberries?!! Both phenomenal and plentiful in beautiful Maine, of course. My daughter and I had the Maine wild blueberry pancakes and eggs; my son - strawberry and blueberry pancakes (a special). All very damned good and absolutely delicious - wow! Fluffy and plentiful and deeeeeelicious!!!!!!!!! This busy diner runs like a well oiled machine for sure! Thanks once again Yelp! (I told my kids - all you need on vacation is a full tank of gas, your cell and Yelp!)
Overall, this is a solid diner, but it doesn't particularly stand out from others. The service was fast and friendly, exactly what you'd expect from a good diner. We visited around 10 a.m. on a Sunday and had about a 35-minute wait, which wasn't surprising for a busy weekend morning. The prices are on the higher side for a diner. My veggie omelette was $21, and while it was good, the home fries were just average. We also ordered the lobster omelette for $35. Although it's pricey, it came with a generous portion of lobster, which helped justify the cost. One thing to note is that there's also a 3% kitchen fee added to the bill, so keep that in mind.
If you're in Portland and craving a real diner breakfast, Becky's absolutely hits the spot. The homemade corned beef hash is the star of the plate: big chunks of corned beef and potatoes, crispy on the outside, tender inside, and super flavorful without being greasy. You can taste that it's made from scratch, not scooped out of a can. The blueberry pancake is everything you want from a Maine diner--loaded with berries, golden on the edges, and fluffy in the middle. It's one of those pancakes you tell yourself you'll share, then somehow you don't. The fiddlehead omelet is such a fun local twist, with the fiddleheads adding a tender, slightly earthy bite that makes the whole thing feel special and seasonal. Service is friendly and efficient, even when they're slammed, and the whole place has that busy, waterfront, "locals and tourists together" vibe. Expect a wait, especially at prime breakfast hours, but the homemade corned beef hash, blueberry pancake, and fiddlehead omelet make it more than worth it.

The homemade brisket hash was very good and why I stop here. Nice staff, dessert options are impressive with the pies. All was good til I saw a kitchen charge now added to the bill . This is a real turn off. Becky should pay the kitchen staff more o stead of fleecing customers... if I had known in advance; I would have eaten elsewhere.. Friendly Toast down the street loser to waterfront and other smaller businesses needing my money.
Breakfast in Maine? This place is an institution but there are long wait times beware waited 45 minutes to be seated got the warf special potatoes eggs sausage and pancakes had great crispy edges my favorite Thewife got italian stallion omelette which consisted of sausage and red peppers and spinach she rated it a 6 out of 10 the hot sauce on the table tastes really good as well must try Lemonade is pretty good btw & good luck finding a spot in 1 of the lots parking is sparse
Love an authentic diner, only thing missing here was a counter. We dined here before heading out on the mail boat. Lots of folks waiting and we were seated pretty quickly, considering. After we ordered we switched over to a booth that was vacant in order to get the total diner experience. I ordered the eggs beneedict and it was pretty good. The ham was a bit salty, but that is somewhat expected with ham. The potatoes were OK, a bit too done for my taste. I would come here again and would probably just get the typical eggs and bacon with toast breakfast. Over $100 for 4 of us, a bit high for diner fare.
This greasy spoon dine has my whole heart! It stays very busy and the lobster Benedict was outstanding. One of my top five breakfasts that I've ever had. The service was friendly and it's definitely loved by the locals.
Trusty diner on Commercial Street in an area that was once far from the epicenter of Old Port, but city growth has brought it closer. Relatively easy parking. Good breadth of menu. Seats in relaxing booths plus plenty of stools. Servers very experienced and very friendly. It's a comforting environment. Their many loyal "regulars" are there for a reason. I've already got a few visits under my belt and liked them enough to have bought a souvenir mug. First visit actually reviewing was a breakfast trying the Hobson's Sampler with eggs, meat, homefries, toast, pancakes, and many choices among them. -- Scrambled Eggs: Nothing remarkable but no mistakes. Cooked just right, avoiding brownage and runny goopage. -- Homefries: Cut into non-cubes with heights less than the widths, achieving better crispness that way. Good variety of textures. Not much seasoning or onion, but solid homefries. -- Sausage Links (3): Standard. Lightly crisped, still juicy. Seems easy, but hardly anyone does them this well. -- English Muffin: I told the server to skip the toast, seeing there'd be plenty of carbs with the two pancakes, but she strongly recommended trying the English muffins, since they were homemade. Great flavor, great choice. Will have these again and I recommend you try them too. -- Pancakes (2): Fluffy and delicious. And big. Not elite, but really close. Enough that you'd have to go to 10 other places before finding one better. Just a great all-around place. No wow factor, but on every visit (all breakfasts), everything was good, right down to the efficient and friendly service.
Also a staple for some breakfast! They have a fast turnover rate so you're never waiting long and they are very efficient in sitting people. I got the hobsons wharf special, which is best for the price point and the amount of food you get! Definitely has that classic diner feel. Gets a little crazy in the summer, but going really early is the way to go!
Had the 1.5lbs lobster meal and it was a very good deal for the meal. Loved the experience and the meal. I want to go back already. The server was so sweet and nice. Young and full of energy. It's a different vibe than the weekend brunch servers. Still a full five star experience. I had two meals here over my long weekend in Maine. It's going to be on my must go back to places for Portland. Trip here means another couple meals at Becky's.
I only had 1 day in Portland Maine and 1 stomach for a lobster meal and a lobster roll. For lobster meal I picked Gilbert's (also 5 stars), and for lobster roll I went to Becky's. The $40 full roll was to die for, incredibly good! (easily double the size of a lobster roll in California.) The server was nice enough to give me butter and mayo on the side for me to try. (I decided I liked mayo better.) Some menu items are breakfast or lunch only, but lobster rolls are served all day.
Old school diner with busy and bustling vibes - especially at lunchtime. Service fairly quick, friendly. Had lunch and breakfast menu - impressive sandwiches with generous portions of fries or onion rings; breakfast toast impressive and perfectly toasted and buttered, pancake was dense but fluffy, and delicious. Sausage is a must have. Recommend for a quick in and out.

we went to Becky's on a Friday around 11am for brunch and there was a decent wait. they had a bunch of nice picnic tables and outdoor seating while we waited. we got a spot at the bar and the service was very speedy. it's classic old school dinner interior with bar stool and booth seating very retro. i ordered a hot coffee and the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon and my husband ordered the sausage two eggs toast and potatoes. it was classic good hearty American breakfast. it's right on the water so it's a great location would recommend. read more
Food was good. Crinkle cut fries were hot and crisp with the perfect amount of salt. Coleslaw could've used a touch more mayo and a sprinkle of pepper... slightly bland. The lobster roll was good. An amazing good amount on a toasted roll. Bitter came on the side which was great bec you don't need much... Our server was nice and brought our food out quick. Checked on us a few times and did a great job asking us about apps and upselling deserts. Place was a typical diner. Not a fancy place but food was good. I went to Becky's Diner due to everyone having such positive and glowing reviews. I went and ordered take out since I had to leave shortly after getting to the restaurant. The staff were super friendly. I ordered the fried shrimp and fries. Unfortunately the food was so bland and lacked seasoning. I couldn't even eat the fries they were just so bland. I heard breakfast is a lot better so maybe I will try that instead. read more

Becky's was our first stop after we arrived in Maine. The lobster roll was amazing. Big chunks of lobster that was well prepared chilled and on a nice roll. You could add butter or mayo if you wanted. The fries were really good too. We tried them with canceaux sauce on the table. read more

Becky's Diner in Portland is definitely worth a visit; just be prepared to wait, because it's a popular spot and the line moves at a true diner pace. That said, once you're seated, the food and friendly vibe make it worth the wait! Everyone at my table ordered the homemade corned beef with eggs, and I built my own omelette with provolone, Italian sausage, and spinach. Everything was delicious, hearty, and clearly made with care. Each meal came with toast and home fries, the only slight miss for me was the home fries, which could've used a little more seasoning and oomph. Coffee was solid diner perfection; hot, smooth, and our cups never went empty thanks to the attentive staff. We also loved the Captain Mowatt's hot sauce on the table, tangy, flavorful, and good on everything (they even sell it by the bottle!). Overall, Becky's Diner is a Portland classic; warm, welcoming, and satisfying from start to finish. Definitely a great experience! read more
As I was waiting for the flight from Chicago to Portland, ME, I saw someone wearing a hoodie from Becky's Restaurant. Then when the car sharing driver taking me to the hotel, we went passed Becky's. Then I found out, the restaurant is just couple of blocks from the hotel....So I knew I would have to check it out. After checking in at the hotel, I walked over to this diner. Please note, this is on a Sunday about 12:30pm.... the hostess advised me, it's about 10 minute wait for a single... there were plenty of tables and chairs on the patio to wait for this time of the year. Within 10 minutes, I was seated at the counter. Because, I grabbed seat at the end, I think I had the best view of everything going on. Within a few minutes, the server took the order, Hobson's Wharf Special. Then, I was able to just watch the servers interact with the customers, which many are regulars. The servers made this job look like a breeze, which I know, it is not. The atmosphere is just what you'd think of an old time diner - nothing fancy. As steady as the diner was, my order we dropped off within 15 minutes. OMG, just as I expected, the food was so good. I was checked in on couple of times. Before, I forget, the prices were much better than I had anticipated for the amount of food I had received. I would highly highly recommend this diner for breakfast. However, I was informed the diner has great food, all day long. Enjoy this great diner. read more

Food: The food was delicious, but nothing spectacular. Very traditional diner food. I suspect all the real fisherman come to dine here early in the mornings right when they open at around 4/5 am. Service: friendly and quick service Ambiance: Very casual diner Parking: There is paid street parking is available, but hard to come by especially during peak hours. There is a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, but it is also paid! read more

This review is a couple of years overdue. Amber E.'s review reminded me that it had to be written. I've never been to Becky's Diner. Hell, I've never been to Maine. So why the review? I'll tell you why. I saw the episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" that feature Becky's Diner. I thought to myself; How cool would it be to surprise my wife, whose name just happens to be Becky, with an authentic Becky's Diner t-shirt? I jumped onto their website, but there was no tab to purchase merch, so I called the restaurant. I spoke with a super sweet and super nice woman. I explained what I was up to. I asked if I could buy a shirt over the phone and if they'd ship it to me. I told her to add to the total for their time, trouble and of course shipping costs. (I think she added only about five bucks). She ran down the colors and the sizes for me. I chose purple. I gave her my credit card info and address, gave her my many thanks and we said our goodbyes. Then I hoped for the best. About a week later a package from Becky's Diner arrived at our front. Inside was a neatly folded purple t-shirt and a very nice hand-written note thanking me for my purchase. It also stated that the staff at Becky's hoped Becky enjoys her surprise. I assure you, she did, and still does! We hope to make it to Maine someday, and you can be damn sure we're going to visit Becky's Diner for some lobster! read more

We got to Becky's around 10AM on a Tuesday and there was still a wait, but not too long (maybe 10-15 minutes). We were seated outdoors upstairs where there are about 5 tables, so not crowded at all. I ordered a sausage commercial street sandwich with a side of homefries and I don't think you can get a better deal for a breakfast like this. It's a pretty classic breakfast that's very filling, and all for $7! I get why Becky's is popular and would definitely come back here for a casual breakfast. read more
This is one of those places that everyone in Old Portland say you need go to. We were lucky enough to get seated and not have to wait in line. It's basically a good old fashioned greasy spoon diner. Our waitress was attentive and took care of us. I got an omelette that was basically a crepe with some limit3ed amount of things inside. My wife got eggs Benedict Florentine and was pleased with hers. The coffee was filled regularly and quite good. AS we left they were on a decent wait to get in. Sure go and say you went and check it off the list. read more

Fine diner. Food had good portions which I appreciated. Eggs Florentine was delicious though the breakfast potatoes were lacking. Needed any kind of flavoring, they were very plain. Service was lacking. Hostess didn't even show us our seat, she just said "third booth down".....what......... Restaurant was busy when I came but they didn't take the previous check off our table for a bit and our specials menu had a random sauce mess on it. read more
It's been years since we've eaten here. Everyone was pleased except me. I had a dinner portion of fried shrimp, subdtituted onion rings instead of french fries. I should have asked but I assumed wrong. The shrimp were tiny not anywhere near an acceptable size. The onion rings were perfect. The shrimp were tasteless & needed s&p to help them along. My bad; very disssapointed. I forgot to take pictures of everyones food: again my bad. Time to move on from Becky's diner & try other Portland diners. read more
This place gets very busy. We waited about 30mins for a table for two, around 9am on a weekend morning. We were seated at the countertop, and the waitress there was very pleasant and efficient. I ordered the summer special "firecracker special" which was a cheddar biscuit with sausage and egg in it. This came with potatoes and I also wanted a blueberry pancake on the side. Everything was great, though the biscuit was a little dry. My only regret is using the "regular" syrup for the pancake, which I could see came from a big "log cabin" brand jug, and not asking for "real" syrup as the person next to me did. Next time I'll know. The orange juice is a common brand from a dispenser machine as well. Overall I enjoyed this meal, and would perhaps return if nearby. read more
