This might just be my favorite sit down breakfast place in town! The space is small and cozy, we were lucky to be seated immediately when there can be long waits at peak times. It feels very vintage inside with lots of interesting decor. The menu is expansive and has something for everyone, plus they have lots of interesting specials. When we went they had a cookies and cream muffin, a pumpkin fritter French toast, a couple of kinds of quiche and one or two other items that I can't recall. My omelette was delish and perfectly prepared, my husband got us the pumpkin fritter French toast to share which was luscious (as my grandfather would say). Everyone at our table was super happy with their meal. Coffee was typical diner fare but that's fine with us. Portions are hearty, the price is right, and service hit the mark. If I'm having breakfast in my town, it'll be Marcy's or Henny's! read more

We were staying in downtown Portland for a few days and found Marcy's diner for breakfast. We like it so much we went back the second day. Great neighborhood and cozy diner experience. The staff was friendly and a good solid diner breakfast at a reasonable price for downtown. I had the egg, bagel and sausage sandwich the first day and breakfast special (2 eggs, hash browns, sausage, and toast) the second. If you plan your morning the breakfast special is a real bargain at $10. Pull up a stool at the bar and enjoy the vibe and mix with some locals! read more

Ambiance was really nice! Cute classic diner/ old timey style, quaint vibes. Food: Homemade blueberry muffin grilled - not really anything...special... maybe my batch wasn't a good one? They were not anything compared to the Trader Joe's blueberry muffins in terms of softness and moisture...Costco blueberry muffins are a little bit less dry than these. - the grilled bit of the muffin was a bit of a letdown. It is just literally cut in half and put on top of a grill for maybe a few minutes for the char lines and that's it. Nothing else done to it - they made it sound like it had something else so I'm pretty disappointed in that one. - BUT the chocolate pancake was DELICIOUS. It's like Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix on a pan, in the shape of a pancake, and chocolate frosting/fudge/ganache? On top, with white icing to make the squiggle. Would buy over the muffin tbh. - the chili was swimming with cheese, so if you like that it's for you. My bf couldn't eat his because it was a thick glob of melted cheese every time he lifted his fork. BUT I myself adore cheese so I would've been happy with that. DELICIOUS comfort food Easy going, friendly staff Cozy environment My friend and I decided to give Marcy's a try, since we both love breakfast and surprisingly, neither of us have tried it yet (surprising because we are both living and from Maine!) We were directed to two bar stools at the end near the grill when we walked and and I couldn't have picked a better location for us. I could watch the magic on the grill and be away from the traffice coming and going in the front door. I absolutely loved everything I ordered, which was: Grilled Blueberry Muffin as an "appetizer" and then I had the number 7 meal: 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, corned beef hash, hashbrowns - SOOOO GOOD, perfectly cooked. I also ordered a pancake to share. It was thick and delicious. I took some of that home along with sausage. My friend ordered the french toast meal and loved it. Had a fantastic brunch at this throw back cute diner. I ordered the veggie omelette that was delicious, home fries cooked just how I like it. My girlfriend said it was one of the best pastrami's. We walked over here from our hotel, maybe two blocks. It was a good breakfast. The food off the regular menu was good. However, the day we were here they made some cinnamon buns that were a temporary item: these were amazing! Nice selection, tight seats. Not crowded, but actually tight. I'm 6'3" and 270lbs. Seating was old and built when Americans were smaller. Worth the struggle to get in and out, though. Staff was attentive, helpful. A couple of regulars were in for breakfast. read more

Looking for a new spot to check out for my wife's birthday breakfast and this was the spot she wanted to try! It did not disappoint and thanks to getting up early and it being Decemeber we had no wait, although by the time we were leaving all the booths were full and some families were waiting. So expect a possible wait but I would say worth it based on the food! It's all you can ask for in a local diner. Small little booths and two sections of a bar top with the old school stools. They serve breakfast and lunch all day and have special boards for both breakfast and lunch! The breakfast menu had exactly what you'd expect a diner to offer! Everyone should easily find something they enjoy. The staff were friendly enough, but the only negative I would mention is that our server seemed much more friendly to every other table than to us. Just in the sense that it seemed to be more natural conversation and they seemed interested in talking to others. For us, it was more of a get it over with vibe. But, won't really let that factor into my rating as it seemed to be a small thing. My wife got the Number 4 and loved it, French Toast was on the colder side than we expected but wow some real tasty French Toast! I got their spicy pepper jack omelette and it alongside the hash browns and raisin bread were so good! The food is 100% worth coming here for especially if you want that small local diner vibe! Don't miss this amazing breakfast/lunch diner. It's one of the best finds in Portland for its food and low key friendly atmosphere. Say hi to the owner, Mandy, who is often on the grill. We sat at the counter for the show she put on, getting all of the orders on the grill she pushed out with Julian. Watch her crack the eggs open in marathon time with one hand! I ordered an omelette with sausage, cheddar (I was given the "Cabot's reserve") and mushrooms. It came with hash browns and toast (Texas thick). It was delicious. The egg casing was thin and had my great tasting choices. My husband had corned beef hash and eggs which also came with eggs and toast (Texas thick). The owner snuck in a piece of the Cabot Reserve Cheddar as well. lol I'm told that the corned beef hash was excellent-as usual. We took home a cinnamon bun (we had a taste before putting it away). To me this place is more about value and ambulance. Simple worn out breakfast nook. Food was average. Five of us met for breakfast with everyone getting something different. I got the Italian omelette special. At $18 for two egg small portion very average hash brown meal. I don't get it. One of my buddies got a milkshake which he really liked. My wife got another special with hashbrowns which were undercooked and the waitress came back to our table several times haven't forgotten what meal she ordered and dropping the F bomb several times I would give this place 2 1/2 stars and for me with all the breakfast choices out there I would not return. read more

I visited from Vermont on a snowy Sunday, and it was still busy. I got the Reuben, which was probably the best Reuben I have ever had. The staff were friendly, and the service was quick. The old pictures of the diner were very nostalgic. The only thing was I'm a bit of a coffee snob, and the coffee was weak, but other than that I highly recommend this place. read more

Marcy's food is a bit above standard diner fare. It's now owned by a former waitress who worked there when Darla & Doug owned it. There's frequently a line for a table (and sometimes even seating at the counter! Especially on the weekends and some holidays. The line spills out onto the sidewalk. you wait there until your party's name is called at which time you go in and are seated at one of the 5 or 6 booths. (If you're on your own, you'll often be seated faster since the booths are in higher demand and the counter has higher seat turnover. The daily specials are written on a chalkboard on the wall above the final booth. If you come early enough, there's a better chance of receiving your desired special ... and the specials are usually the best choice. read more

Had a big night out, and while I didn't have a hangover, I also didn't want to make breakfast. Never been to Marcy's before because I thought it would probably be crowded being so small (and I'm usually at work during the week). But things lined up and I decided to try Marcy's on a Thursday. I sat at the counter and immediately felt welcome. The staff is friendly and seemed to be having a great time behind the counter. Ordered "the neuge" - a breakfast sandwich consisting of two eggs over hard, pork roll, american cheese, and a grilled roll - and an iced coffee. The sandwich was served with hash browns. This was one huge sandwich, egg and cheese spilling out the sides of the roll, yet still held together when I picked it up. Hash browns were delicious, crispy and well seasoned. Pork roll is something I don't think I've had before and I thought this was great. What really made the sandwich for me I think was actually the grilled bread, since the sandwich doesn't have any other toothy, crunchy aspects to it. The bread also did a lot of work I imagine soaking up the grease and fat and was all the more flavorful for it. My doctor says I need to watch my cholesterol and watch I did. It looked delicious and was. The waiter asked if i wanted anything else and I asked for hot sauce. He put a BUCKET of hot sauces on the counter for me. Mostly run of the mill fare like tobasco and cholula, but an impressive array nonetheless. Just a great breakfast all around and I'm so excited to go back again soon. read more

Classic, old-timey diner in Portland. Prices used to be much much lower but it is what it is. So many classic options as well as creative spin offs with local places like the Holy Donut French Toast that it's hard to choose. I came with a party of 3 on a Sunday morning, about quarter to 9am and we were able to get seated within 10 minutes. I got the No.4 and chose the Cap'n Crunch French Toast and sausage. Just be aware that if you prefer real maple syrup, it's a $3 upcharge. The French toast was perfect, and the savory dishes were standard. They do have an assortment of hot sauces that were nice. I first discovered Marcy's when I moved to Portland in 2007, it was walkable from my apartment and I quickly fell in love with it. GREAT food, friendly staff and the vibe I was looking for. I've moved outside of the city so I don't frequent this fine establishment as much as I used to but I make it a point to get there a few times a year with my 2 sons. We stopped by again the other day and unfortunately our great meal was overshadowed by what has become obscene prices. Here was our order for a table of 3 (1 adult, 2 kids under 10): 1. 1 pancake with bananas and blueberries 2. 1 pancake with chocolate chips 3. 1 side of bacon 4. 2 chocolate milks 5. 1 coffee 6. Hobo hash browns with added eggs and chili (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) Final bill (after tip): $83 I realize that this is most likely a result of the rising costs passed on to Marcy's by their suppliers and lease on the space but I can't justify this anymore. I really, really love Marcy's and the people who work there, and if money isn't a concern, then by all means go there and have a great meal. On food alone I would give Marcy's 6 stars but the cost brings it way down for us and I think have officially priced us out. I'm sorry, Marcy! read more

I ordered "the classics" #1 - 2 eggs (I got them scrambled), 2 pieces toast (choice of white, wheat, cinnamon raisin - there might have been other options too), and hash browns. Everything was tasty and service was quick. Nothing blew me away but I did order something very simple so I didn't expect it to. Fair prices too, although a bit higher than what is listed online. I feel like being a Portland local means I just re-review the same places over and over as time progresses as we watch the city change. This diner is one of the very few things in town that just gets better and better with time. The food is incredible, serving sizes are generous, and the muffins are out of this world.
