Matcha cold brew - Two glasses of iced drinks are positioned on a white table. The front glass contains a dark brown liquid with ice, and the back glass holds a green beverage with ice and a blue straw. A beige napkin is placed beside the glasses, and part of a person's arm and a cup are visible in the background.

This is the spot to sit and plan out your day, honestly the perfect launch pad for being out in Portland. We got to sit and take our time while sipping on these awesome perfectly crafted drinks Lots of alternative milk options! Great tasteful tunes! (Need that playlist..)

Such a gem tucked away in a quieter part of portland. Amazing selection of food and fun sweet treats. I went when they have their specialty cake available on Fridays and Saturdays. I showed up around 22 and sat right at the bar and chatted with the lovely bartender about what wine they recommend pairing with the caramel apple cake they had on special. Such lovely service and i had such a fun relaxing time just having a glass of wine with a slice of cake and reading my book! then walked around the little store area they had and will definitely need to go back for some fun and quirky gifts to pick up for the holidays. highly recommend!

Smalls Cafe is the kind of place where time slows down, in the best way. Located just across the street from the water, it offers a cozy, colorful café up front and a charming little market tucked in the back, stocked with household goods and gourmet bites perfect for gifting, charcuterie boards, or spontaneous picnics. I always enjoy wandering through the back while waiting for my order, there's always something new to discover. Since my first visit, I've been loyal to the Smalls breakfast sandwich, it's seriously that good. The herb feta sauce is unforgettable (I've seriously wished they sold it by the jar). If you're into coffee, do yourself a favor and try an iced latte with a pump of baklava syrup. It's sweet, spiced, and just a little unexpected, like Smalls itself.

This place was SO CUTE! Cozy window seats, cute bar, and the shop in the back had so many goodies! I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was bomb. Soft egg brick, crunchy bacon, and the sauce balanced really well! My only complaint is it felt like a small sandwich for $9 ($11 if you add bacon). My friend had the ricotta toast and enjoyed that and her coffee too! I would definitely come back to try some other dishes and cocktails!

Some steaks. Lol. - The image shows a person standing on a wooden floor, wearing blue jeans with cuffs rolled up and red and white shoes. The person is holding a camera or phone in their right hand, capturing a photo. The background includes a metal basket and some items on the right side, with part of a white object visible on the left.

This is a really cute little spot in Portland. It's a hip little grocery store in the back and in the front is a charming cafe that satiates well. I was not the biggest fan of the cheese in this particular image but loved the bread and would be more than willing to try again. The service is never bad, and it's overall a quaint spot that will get the job done. I really like the assortment of trinkets inside.

Really yummy food and super cute vibe! We were bummed because they were out of the breakfast sandwich, but everything we ordered was so so good! The food does take a while so be prepared for 30ish minutes when you order.

Great little coffee shop in Portland. It has a cool atmosphere and vibe. I really enjoyed the latte I got. I did order a medium and the size was pretty small, but considering the fact that the name of the shop is Smalls, I have no complaints. I would recommend this place for anyone who loves local coffee shops.

My fantastic cortado and my wife's matcha (with matching phone case).

We strolled there from our air b&b. I had a cortado, my wife had the matcha... both were superb. For breakfast we split the burrata plate and the raspberry tartine. I recommend either, and we plan to replicate these when we go home so we can relive the experience of Portland ME (west end).

What a quaint , queer friendly coffee shop! I truly enjoyed the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of this coffee shop and can't wait to come back!! Not only were the vibes immaculate, but their coffee, tea and sandwiches were to die for! Highly recommend this coffee shop if visiting Portland, Maine (:

If I lived specifically within walking distance of Smalls, I can see making this a regular spot! The food and drinks are delicious; it's the perfect anytime-of-day sip and snack spot! The front part (the cafe) is so aesthetically pleasing and welcoming. There's seating at the counter, bar seating with a long mirror behind that, a table in one corner, and bench seating at the window in the other corner. The back has an (overwhelming) amount of artisan crafts, home goods, self care stuff, etc. for purchase as well. The first time I went I tried: 1. the breakfast sandwich (silky egg, garlic and herb feta, tomato mayo, arugula) for $9 (a dollar more than when they first opened). It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Probably in my top five favorite in Portland! The egg is square and has a nice crust on the outside of the patty, but it's soft and fluffy on the interior. The many different flavors and textures compliment each other, and it's such a unique offering compared to other breakfast sandwiches in the area! 2. the spinach and artichoke vegan sandwich (white beans, kalamata olives, red onion, peppadew cream cheese) for $13. It was okay, but strangely very, very sour. There was also no kalamata olives or red onion on mine, but lots and lots of artichokes and arugula. 3. an iced coffee for $4? $5?. Unfortunately, it was mostly ice. While I enjoyed myself tremendously, Smalls missed the mark for me on a few things: a. the music was so loud that I could barely hear the person I was with. b. some of the staff came off as harried and impatient; some of the staff seemed friendly and engaging. c. the breakfast sandwich is A LOT smaller than you might think (mine was the size of maybe an orange; it was satisfying, but not filling). d. the iced coffees are shockingly small, the smallest I've had anywhere else in Portland (again, satisfying, but I did buy another coffee elsewhere afterwards). I was torn between a Yelp 3 (which means "Okay") and a Yelp 4 (which means "Good") [...again, we really need half stars], but for me it came down to: would I visit again? And, sure, I can see myself coming back for a meeting or a WFM day!

Turmeric latte and cortado - A person is holding a glass pitcher filled with a yellow, creamy beverage, possibly a latte or smoothie. The individual is wearing a jacket with a plaid pattern and a colorful shirt underneath. The background is plain and light-colored, and part of another beverage is visible in the foreground.

Smalls is a lovely little cafe. I love that they're tucked away in the west end so parking is easy if you don't live in the area and there's a nice park to walk around if you wanna get out. Smalls is a half cafe half store type setup and they have a compact drink menu and a small food menu. I've never eaten here but it's such a nice place to grab a drink with a friend. The folks are super friendly and quick to whip your drink up. With such a small interior, they do manage to fit lots of bodies with bar style seating and cute window corner nooks.

Service and coffee was 10/10 and the vibes of the shop alone speak for themselves! Amazing place!

Focaccia - Two slices of focaccia bread are arranged on a white plate on a table. The bread appears freshly baked with a golden crust. In the background, there is a glass with ice, a straw, and a beverage, along with other table items such as napkins and glasses. The setting suggests a casual dining environment, possibly a cafe or restaurant.

She is a book lover and we both love our coffees and cocktails. This is a spot that offers all of that and is a third space I think that has been popular and will in general be missed. We even visited during their opening day back in December 2023. They will be closing their doors on April 17th 2026. I will say that due to them getting their books from a local used bookstore they do not have the latest and greatest selection of books that you'd expect if they were a bookstore. I have not had complaints during any of our visits here. I have enjoyed their coffee as well as their chai lattes along with enjoyed all the cocktails I have tried. I have especially enjoyed the espresso martinis and have liked the fact you could in fact get the coffee drinks and cocktails any time of their hours opened. During the majority of their time open they would offer specialty espresso martinis as well. Some of my favorite cities to visit have many coffee cafe meets cocktail bar and is a concept I wish were more popular in Portland. It is a difficult time currently for all and any local business so with yet another closing I encourage you to support your favorite places when and how you can! Cheers to Novel and thanks for the space you offered to locals and visitors!

My husband and I love Thames Landing, so why not try breakfast and lunch! Located on the waterfront in downtown Portland, they have a nice view of the walkway, railway, and the ocean Gateway. Parking is either on street or in the conveniently located parking area next to the building. I ordered the breakfast sandwich of bacon, egg, and cheese on and everything bagel. Bagel was nicely toasted not overly chewy, cheddar, egg, and bacon well balanced. I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! For lunch, I ordered their Bow sandwich which consisted of sliced smoked turkey, cheddar, bacon, greens, and red onion with a chipotle mayo, which I substituted for regular. They give you multiple choices of bread, I chose a wrap, which they kindly cut in half. I found this to be very delicious, the turkey the cheese to be well balanced with the greens making it very refreshing with each bite. I did take a picture of this! I enjoyed my lunch with some kombucha, which also was very refreshing. My hope is that my husband and I will go for breakfast this weekend when I can go out and experience the atmosphere and where I can take more photos.

The service was nice, prompt, and the prices were reasonable, which we appreciated. We're from New York, so we're definitely used to top-tier bagels. That said--considering this was a bagel from Maine--it was pretty A-okay, lol. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid enough for a casual breakfast. The cafe itself is really nice inside and seemed dog-friendly, which is always a plus. In the past, they've also had great pre-packaged dessert options from a local bakery. I didn't see anything that caught my eye this time around, but it's something I've enjoyed before. Second Rodeo is women-owned and a very welcoming space so huge positives there. Like some others I was surprised by how large their space was. Seating options are also vast in what felt like they picked up a variety of vintage furniture along some normal tables/chairs. While most of it did not feel cohesion or of the same vibe I think it works extremely well for what they are going for. Workers were very friendly and did give an accurate estimate of our wait due to being busy which I appreciated. Drink wise they have most of the options you would expect a local shop to have now. My wife got the iced version of their Black Forest Latte. I went with an iced Peppermint Mocha Latte. Both drinks lacked the amount of flavor we expected and thought they were more watery than we had hoped. Due to this and being about half an hour away from us not sure how quickly we will return. If it were local to our area I suspect we would return often enough due to the welcoming and inviting vibes which I'm sure they have many local regulars. If we do return I'll give a hot drink a try in hopes of being better. Do visit this spot though to give them a fair try!
