Couldn't wait to take a bite!

We stopped in to try the Lobster rolls here while we were in port on a cruise ship. We asked our tour guide for a suggestion and this is where he sent us. So glad he did! Hubby and I both ordered a Lobster Roll and Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Lobster Roll was huge. Chocked full of Lobster. I asked for Mayo for mine. We both loved it. Price was good. Didn't wait long to get our food once we placed our order at the counter. We definitely would come back!

Navis is one of those cafes I'm surprised isn't more busy during the week. They have a small menu, but something for everyone--their Grain Bowl, chowder, avo toast, and chai latte are my favorites. It's a perfect place to sit and work on a sunny day, as the interior is incredibly bright and sunny given their floor-to-ceiling windows. The staff are always friendly as well. I love popping in here for a quick bite!

    Cute outdoor seating area.

So - my office is opening a new building sometime on the Portland waterfront. And this cute little cafe is just a hop, skip and a jump away. Since I had some time to kill today before an apt and hadn't eaten yet - I thought I'd check it out. The menu had a mix of breakfast, sandwiches and salads - perfect work day items. On special today - they had a Chinese Chicken Salad and a Lobster Roll combo. Both were tempting, but I was t that hungry. I went with Avocado Toast (added bacon), a chocolate chip cookie, and a rose. All hit the spot perfectly! The service was friendly and quick. And that patio - on a hot, breezy day was perfection! Looking forward to coming back to try some of this sandwiches and salads.

I'm so glad that the Portland Food Fight brought me here for the best sandwich competition. Out of the two choices I was able to pick from, I went with The Stern (turkey, Gouda, caramelized onion, apple and chipotle mayo) and I'm so glad I did! I've only made a few stops on the coupon map and I already know this place is a contender for 1st place. The bread was super fresh and all the texturizes and flavors of the ingredients complimented each other beautifully. The girl at the counter was absolutely delightful. The looks space looks like it's freshly built, clean as a whistle, with a beautiful counter tops filled with fresh baked breads, cookies and pastries. I'm so excited to discover they sell my "go-to" adult canned beverages by Maine Craft Distillery. I've yet to visit any other bars that carry the Blueshine Lemonade. Yay for locals supporting other locals!

Staff was nice but sandwich was meh ($15 for regular cold cuts on toast) with no chipotle aioli and fat chunks of red onion. Coffee options to do yourself were literally just milk and domino sugar... the only great thing about this place was the location near the water. Not for me for $23.

Bagels tasted like bread. Not a bagel. Wouldn't last a day in NYC . The lox was excellent. We are the toppings and left the bagel.

They advertise themselves as all day cafe/bar and market. The vibes were perfect with an overall cozy and welcoming feel. It seemed like a spot many regulars come to often as the workers appeared to know many people who came through! They have a bar with roughly 8 seats, along with some tables. With the back of the store having goodies to buy including candles, self-care items, wines, drinks, and more. Worth browsing before or after your drinks and food. We snagged two bar stools and were immediately greeted and served water along with a menu. All three staff members were friendly and made us feel welcome. Drink wise my wife got an iced mocha while I saw their drink special of the month on social media and had to try it. Named The Blue Rose with Butterfly pea flower, cardamom rose, whole milk, pebble ice and espresso on top. A photo-worthy beverage with a delicious flavor. I would keep coming back for this drink for sure if it were a permanent menu item! Food wise my wife and I both got a breakfast sandwich, only difference she got bacon while I got the impossible sausage. Well made and delicious sandwiches that would make us return as well. I do wish they would have been a little bigger though. If our visit today was any indication of the typical my wife and I would gladly return! Friendly service in a great setting with well made food and drinks. Need to return to give their cocktails a try! A standout space in Portland.

If I were to come back here I would opt to just get coffee rather than food OR I'd come for a glass of wine because I did like the vibe on the inside. However, the breakfast sandwich was rather disappointing and our service was VERY slow. I ordered a coffee about half way through my meal and had to leave without it because it was taking too long.

Following first speculation I saw online of Novel closing then after they confirmed they would be…read moreclosing my wife wanted to make sure we came by before that! She is a book lover and we both love our coffees and cocktails. This is a spot that offers all of that and is a third space I think that has been popular and will in general be missed. We even visited during their opening day back in December 2023. They will be closing their doors on April 17th 2026. I will say that due to them getting their books from a local used bookstore they do not have the latest and greatest selection of books that you'd expect if they were a bookstore. I have not had complaints during any of our visits here. I have enjoyed their coffee as well as their chai lattes along with enjoyed all the cocktails I have tried. I have especially enjoyed the espresso martinis and have liked the fact you could in fact get the coffee drinks and cocktails any time of their hours opened. During the majority of their time open they would offer specialty espresso martinis as well. Some of my favorite cities to visit have many coffee cafe meets cocktail bar and is a concept I wish were more popular in Portland. It is a difficult time currently for all and any local business so with yet another closing I encourage you to support your favorite places when and how you can! Cheers to Novel and thanks for the space you offered to locals and visitors!

A place like Novel was long overdue in Downtown Portland. Coffee, cocktails, and books all day…read morelong? Yes, please. And they're open on Mondays?! The minute I walked in, I was surprised by how big the space was. But heads up, it's already a popular spot. I assumed a Monday visit would mean a quiet, empty cafe, but nope. Every table, couch, and chaise was taken, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. Not a problem, but if you're expecting a hidden gem, this isn't that. The ambiance was cool, hip, and laid-back. It's the kind of place where being solo feels encouraged. The only group chatting while I was there was practically whispering, so if you're looking for a catch-up spot with friends, this probably isn't it. But if you're in town alone and want a good drink and some quiet time, then it's the perfect spot. I ordered The Raven, and it was a delicious and balanced drink, just pricier than expected at $14 (though that's sadly the new norm in Portland). I also got a Negroni, which I just asked for offhand, and surprisingly, it was great and cheaper than my cocktail. Wish I'd known that was an option first. Overall, a fantastic addition to Portland and one I'll absolutely be back to.

The bread was for a better word "stale" I could hardly bite into it. The same was true of the turkey ceasar hoagie. However the turkey was very good. I'm going to have to think hard if I ever want to try another hoagie from Ramona's. I know the owners are both respected chefs in their own right but I'm having a tough time justifying whether I will return.

Urg. I was excited to try this place but the egg sandwich I got (the Ramona with broccoli rabe,…read morebacon, American cheese) fell short. The roll was ever so slightly stale and the broccoli rabe had chili in it (so even though I asked for chili on the side it's still in the vegetable part). I also have a total pet peeve about American cheese. In this instance, it just made the sandwich have a gluey internal texture. I often find it is gourmet places trying to be trendy that use American cheese as though they are able to rebrand it. Sharp American or not, the cheese would have been way better in my opinion had it been cheddar or Swiss or really anything. To be fair, the bacon was well-cooked and the eggs were nicely scrambled. Although the sandwich idea is original (broccoli rabe on a breakfast sandwich), I found the flavors just didn't come together. For what it's worth, service was friendly and efficient. Moreover, like a few other places on the East End, I find this place is just sort of too curated, overly self-conscious, and trying too hard to be trendy. I would take a straightforward breakfast sandwich over one that comes with a side of merch and a Brooklyn-hipster-like environment any day.
