    Breakfast potatoes and breakfast sandwich
    Emily K.

Shoutout to Henny's for being open in the middle of a blizzard! We trekked across the neighborhood in search of some breakfast and it was 100% worth it. I ordered a breakfast sandwich w sausage and american on a biscuit. The biscuit was buttery and flaky and stayed together really well. I also tried the breakfast potatoes which were well seasoned and crispy! Hot chocolate was delicious and exactly what I needed in the cold. The cashier and line cook were great and food came out fast. They also have to go sandwiches available for a quick breakfast!

Great local breakfast and lunch spot. At 7 am I had the fresh made Hennys Bennie brkfst sandwich. It was great. carrabasset coffee choices (including decaf!) were fresh made and excellent. Premade breakfast sandwiches available for quick grab and go. I opted to hang at one of the 5 tables plus window bar rather than takeout. Owner Ben and Kenny at the counter were friendly and welcoming. Space was clean, simple, and comfortable. Fresh muffins were baking. Street parking was surprisingly available. Check it out.

I'm not sure what kind of magic this place is but this is the BEST breakfast sandwich I've EVER had!

It was fairly bland, pedestrian, nothing special whatsoever. My dining partner got the pancake with Maine blueberries. It's a very cakey type of pancake. Large. I read they serve real Maine maple syrup on a site when deciding on coming here but was disappointed to see they charge an extra $2.50. Hmmmmm Service was lacking. I feel like they were short handed or servers over working too many tables. I got up to get my own Tobasco sauce since there was nobody around and my sandwich was half eaten while waiting for someone to come by. Overall, I left wanting more. Not fulfilled from the hype I had read in other reviews. Very mundane place. I would not go back. Cannot recommend this place.

The dining room is exactly what you want when you're thinking about eating authentic german food, it's like you're sitting down in Oma's kitchen. The wall decor is eclectic and fun. Very few tables so you must reserve in advance. There is a small window where you can see the two owners cooking. We opted to bring 3 german wines to have with our meal since it is BYOB and were presented with glassware once we sat down by our very attentive waitress who answered all our questions. Complimentary rye bread with a cream cheese and sour cream spiced spread was brought to the table while we looked over the menu. A wonderful start to the meal. For our starters we went with the potato pancakes with house cured salmon and the onion and gruyère tart. The potato pancakes were my favorite out of the two, they had the most perfect pillowy texture and crisp. But the tart was a standout for the rest of the table, it had a layer in the middle of carmelized onions instead of having the onions mixed throughout! It was blowing us away. Moving onto our main we got the first three listed in the menu. The bratwurst was put simply by my other guests as "the best bratwurst i've ever had AND the best sauerkraut as well". The german potato salad was a hit as well with a great vinegar taste. Then my surprising favorite was the pork schnitzel. This was so incredibly juicy even after being pounded and fried. i loved the potato gratin that is came with, the scalloped potatoes reminded me of a dish i had as a kid. The mushroom gravy was deliciously rich. The overall dish that absolutely blew the whole table away was the beef roast. This beef was incredibly tender and cooked to perfection. The marinade was amazing and when paired with the red cabbage was such a good balance of richness and acidity. The potato dumplings were very interesting and had a great dense texture to them. I don't think i can compare this experience to anything else i've done in portland. It is truly one of a kind and i really feel like i learned so much about german cuisine. I will be back because i wont be able to stop thinking about this!

Tucked away from the busy waterfront, it's well worth it for creative comfort food, generous portions and genuinely friendly service. The menu is packed: stuffed French toast, Eggs Benedict combinations, decadent waffles. The food is good, fresh and filling and the service is excellent. The flavors are rich without being overwhelming, and the ingredients taste fresh. It's the kind of place where narrowing your order down to one item is the hardest part. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and they give you crayons to color. The walls are absolutely full of cool artwork -- by kids and adults alike. We all did some drawing while waiting for the order and it was so very relaxing and enjoyable. Even when the restaurant is busy, the staff keeps things moving while remaining warm and attentive. Another standout is how accommodating they are for dietary restrictions. They have extensive vegetables and gluten-free offerings. And know it can get very busy. Arriving early or making a reservation, when possible, is a smart move.

When we finally came during the off season, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity since wait times were shorter. The wait on a Saturday afternoon was about 15-20 minutes. I will say - I had high hopes for Hot Suppa. Between my fiance and I, we ordered the waffle, side of corned beef hash, and the fried green tomatoes eggs benny. The corned beef hash here is excellent - that I do have to acknowledge. I was a bit underwhelmed by the fried green tomatoes though. The tomatoes were just okay, but the excessive hollandaise sauce really just made the whole dish waaay too heavy. It was also just messy. Service was slow & our waitress tended to disappear for long periods of time. Coffee & water refills both took a long time. Parking here is difficult but not impossible.
