Could only assume they didn't seat us there sooner because they're understaffed, which is the case at pretty much all restaurants in Portland. Once we were seated, everything went very smoothly. Service was great, server delightful, food well prepared and just right. My sister had granola with yogurt and fresh fruit, her husband had salmon benedict, and I had classic benedict. All were great, as were the home fries served with the benedicts. Well worth the price and the wait. This is a venerable old Portland establishment that has been consistently excellent over many years and they lived up to their reputation.

For the price, I expected a little more in both the food and overall experience. BUT...the Salt Yard iced latte was friggin amazing. Easily the highlight and I would absolutely come back for that. I can see this place getting crowded/a wait during peak times as there are only a few tables in addition to the counter. The diner is only open for breakfast and lunch, 5 days per week. The menu has several breakfast staples as well as some more creative dishes they concocted. I didn't want to go off the beaten path, so I focused on their breakfast combos which had a mixture of eggs and carbs. I decided on their Number 6 which contained choice eggs (I got scrambled), has browns, choice of breakfast meat (I got sausage), and choice of flavored pancakes (I got blueberry). The breakfast was delicious - the portions are large and I could tell they use quality ingredients. There isn't much more I can say outside of the fact that this was a solid meal with delicious food - it was really everything you want out of a diner breakfast. Service was also great - everyone was friendly and chill; I could tell they get along well and that they put a lot of love into this place.
