99 became a place of comfort and some good memories during a trip to Maine. The food was normal "American" fast casual restaurant food, but the service was consistently great, the restaurant was clean and not too loud and it was a great place to decompress. Can't wait to visit a place that has a 99 again! read more

just want this location to know they LOST a value customer, and we are NOT going back unless we do a to go order and do a pickup! We had a really BAD service experience and here's why: ever since we got inside and sat down, our waitress was NOT attentive to our needs while we were in your establishment. My mom asked for lemon with her water, and she NEVER got it at all, we waited like 30mins for a simple lemon so i had to give her my lemon! We did the 3-course meal which we do almost every time and the waitress didn't tell us what the choices were like at all! She didn't check on us, tell us why our meal wasn't coming out but she brought EVERYONE else's food in front/round/behind us or ask if we/i wanted a refill on my mango iced tea! we ordered our meal like 5:45 and waited till like 6:10 and it felt way longer than that cause I saw our waitress bringing everyone's food like i said above. we had to ask a manger for our meal and all we got was " we're backed up", like seriously? You're backed up but our waitress can deliver everyone else food and NOT ours?! The manager didn't even comp our meals for the service at all. My mom and I just wanted a really good service and good meal, but we weren't given that at ALL! I didn't get to eat my meal as i was hoping to and mom had one of her tacos and didn't finish since we had BAD service! Before we left and my mom was given the check, our waitress finally came and apologized but she showed lack of customer service! She would've gotten a tip if she was more attentive to our needs. Every time she was delivering everyone else's meals and not ours, i kept feeling like we were invisible. Mom also had to the bar since we were sitting next to it and we were being ignored the whole time by our waitress to take mom's money and the women at the bar said she couldn't help my mom so mom said " well, someone needs to take my money!" and the manager on duty had to bring our orders, anything we wanted to our table and had to cash us out! My mom as a veteran shouldn't had to be treated like this like AT ALL! read more

No more popcorn. Primerib removed from the menu. really kind dull now. Food is ok but the prices are rising. Bring back the Popcorn....

I recently had lunch at 99 in Topsham. Service was good, but not exceptional, as was the ambiance. Food was good but a burger is a burger no matter how you slice it, and it left me with the thought, "what makes a cheeseburger worth $20? Not comparing ambiance, service or food taste, but a BK Whopper Wednesday is $4.00. Is 99's burger FIVE TIMES BETTER? Maybe I'm old, and I don't get out much, but $20 for a burger seems outrageous, especially since Applebee's burger is $10. read more

My wife and I dined at this restaurant recently, primarily out of convenience, though the fairly full parking lot suggested it might be a popular spot. Between the two of us, we ordered two appetizers, two entrées, and three beverages. Appetizers We started with the Boom Boom Shrimp and the potato skins. The Boom Boom Shrimp was decent--pleasantly sweet with a mild hint of spice--but ultimately unremarkable. The potato skins, however, were excellent and easily the standout item of the meal. They were well prepared, flavorful, and genuinely enjoyable. In fact, they may be my favorite item on the menu. It's also worth noting that potato skins seem surprisingly rare on menus these days, which made them feel like a bit of a novelty. If we were to return, the potato skins would likely be the primary reason. Drinks My wife ordered a strawberry lemonade, which was fine but nothing memorable. I had a Diet Coke and a strawberry daiquiri. The Diet Coke was exactly what you'd expect. The strawberry daiquiri, however, was a disappointment. The portion size was shockingly small--more like a sampler than a full cocktail--despite being priced comparably to daiquiris at similar chain restaurants. At places like Applebee's, you typically receive a generously sized drink served in a goblet or hurricane glass. Here, it came in a small mug that felt disproportionate to the price. That's a choice I wouldn't make again. Entrées For our main courses, my wife ordered the teriyaki chicken with a side of clam chowder, both of which she enjoyed. Unfortunately, my entrée--the baked haddock--was where the meal truly fell apart. This was, without exaggeration, the worst baked haddock I have ever been served. The fish had virtually no flavor beyond severely burnt breadcrumbs. The topping was sparse, lacked butter or seasoning, and tasted as though it had been cooked at far too high a temperature. The result was a dry, rubbery texture that made the dish genuinely inedible. At nearly $20, it felt like a complete waste and significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. Overall Impression While there were a few bright spots--most notably the potato skins--the baked haddock left such a negative impression that it seriously impacts my likelihood of returning. If we do come back at some point, I'll be sticking to the potato skins. read more

Visited 99 Restaurants for an early dinner. This place is usually very busy, but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Our server was courteous and friendly. I ordered the fried shrimp with fries, like I have many times before. The food was piping hot, but it wasn't seasoned at all. Not bad, but very bland. Still a good meal all in all. read more

We enjoyed the fried shrimp platter and baked haddock. Great service and Pleasant atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

Stopped because we were hungry. Potato skins were good. Ordered a medium steak and it was pretty bloody. Potatoes had too much salt. Host was nice but had to ask for silver ware. Waitress was not very attentive. First time at a 99 Restaurant and can't say that we would go back. read more

I haven't been to a 99 restaurant since 1999! Haha! Everything was so good and hot! Our waitress was very attentive and made sure our drinks were always full. You want to sit at a booth? No need to ask that's all they have. Free popcorn, hot food, great wait staff, I'll be back! read more

99 handles food allergens so well that I feel other chains could learn from them. Their website offers an option to select multiple allergens (wheat, dairy, fish, etc) and will give you a list of safe foods. The menu also indicates gluten-free dishes. No issues with cross-contamination for us, either. The food is very good, although I'm puzzled that a steakhouse doesn't serve baked potatoes. Also, skip the refresher drinks which are a meager amount of fruit puree with soda water on top - there's nowhere near enough fruit puree, so you're basically buying expensive soda water. I liked the broiled sirloin tips so much that I really wish I lived near a 99 to get them more often. read more

Average food, great customer service. I got the cod BLT, my wife got the mac and cheese, my sister in law got the fish tacos, and we got a boneless wings app. I also got a sangarita and a margarita. None of these things was really that good or bad. My sister in law didn't like her fish tacos (flavorless) and complained to management, which took them off the check and comped a lobster mac and cheese with fries as a substitute. We also initially received the wrong appetizer, we had ordered only the wings but they gave us potato skins as well. We sent that appetizer back and got the correct thing, so they corrected it on the check at the end. Aside from the tacos, everything else is all so pretty bland and unremarkable to be honest. I was particularly unimpressed with the sangarita, which tasted just like sangria, though with a lot less actual fruit than you would expect. Both of my drinks were very weak - I'm a lightweight, but I walked away pretty sober. read more

"Apparently Lobster is cheaper in Maine" Bull poopy! I went to this place because the sign looks suspect! Is the cowboy sign with a horseshoe mean it's like steaks! Is the word pub meaning British food? Yes! This place has no identity so whatever you are in the mood for exists! But I digress! I ordered a simple lobster roll and a well known IPA and like an ex wife who says she doesn't want anything in the divorce...why am I the one walking out with two suitcases and a crappy tv...$30 gone in an instant! Ok ok ok it tasted decent but it was maybe a claw and a half worth of lobster on a super soggy bun! They got the small serving of coleslaw right though! WHO ACTUALLY GETS THE COLESLAW RIGHT? It's a throw away food...spend more time making the main dish better and I will never complain about bunk coleslaw ! I know what you are thinking...yes I could have read the reviews ahead of time to see what they serve and their prices ... but reviews are stupid...I don't read them and neither should you! read more

Surprisingly good burgers. big and juicy and done to our order. We needed a table for 7 and they were very accomodating. Wait staff just great and all seemed to work together to get the food to us. We had little kids and they were patient and thoughtful. Hostess very sweet and got our table ready quickly. Cocktails were nothing special but fine and average priced. Good value. read more

Popped here expecting a good version of an Applebees.. Or Chilis maybe.. But overall it ended up being mediocre at best. The hostess was super nice and chatty which was a good welcome. We ended up sitting at the bar. Beer selection was ok. It was 90% nation wide brands like coors and bud.. Though they did have Atlantic which surprised me. Our food was ok.. Nothing to brag about.. Though probably cooked better than what i could. The bartender/server just seemed to be not having it today.. which i get but really didn't add to the experience without me thinking of the movie Waiting periodically during our visit. Overall, meh. May try them again.. But would probably favor the Panera Bread across the street. read more

Everyone I know from New England loves this place! When I went for my first time last week I wasn't blown away by my experience. It reminded me of a Chili's? Or TGI Fridays. The place was a bar like setting. We went in and it was a large bar with a bunch of TV's. They give you popcorn while you wait for your food. I really liked that. I ordered a Honey mustard chicken salad. My lettuce wasn't super fresh. The pits bread was hard and tasted stale. My chicken was way overfried. It tasted like it was chicken they fried earlier, but since they had an order for chicken, they just refried it to heat it up. My boyfriends fries were pretty good though. Hey maybe I caught them on a bad day or off-hour. It wasn't terrible. Our server was nice, I just wasn't too impressed. It was, however, very affordable. Lunch for me and him was only 30 bucks with tip, and he got two beers! read more

I'm not a new patron to the 99..I used to frequent the one in Auburn quite a bit. During this summer we decided to go to the one in Topsham for a bite to eat before our movie. I was shocked at how much the menu had changed. A whole bunch of new, and exciting items had been added. I had a hard time deciding what to order it all sounded really good. I ordered the Fish Tacos....they were AMAZING! The textures, seasoning and presentation all worked very well together. At first I was a bite concerned about the portion size, but the amount was perfect. I don't like receiving a plate rounded over with food. I was comfortably full. Kudos to the restaurant for a fantastic dish, can't wait to try more dishes. read more

Have been to this location several times, food is always great. Now that we are in social distancing and take out/delivery only mode, you literally dont know what you have until you get it home. Ventured out for curbside on Saturday, wanted something but didnt want to cook. Ordered my favorite fried chicken breast with homemade mashed, corn, cranberry sauce, gravy and biscuit. Total carb overload but really yummy. Hubby wanted a burger but not fast food. They have a nice Vermont cheddar burger with bacon that is pretty darn good so we placed the order. Picked up the food (and they do still have popcorn, in a little white bag with a message "thank you for your support." And as a little reminder...please leave a tip for those people. They are pooling the tips at this location and splitting them. I know the nice gal who brought our food was happy to still be working. When we got home, the food was great as expected...except for the burger. The bun was nice, fresh ingredients, bacon and cheddar. The burger did not look right. This particular burger should fill the bun, it was small. Hubby called and spoke with the manager the next day to let her know what happened. She said the wrong size burger was used and apologized profusely. We decided to order again from them (it was a VERY lazy weekend!) Hubby went to pick up the food and the manager comped both meals. No charge. When he arrived home, I called and spoke to the manager. I was ready to pay for the meals, that was above and beyond. This place knows what good customer service is, even with the forced take out only situation. Support your favorite restaurant locations, whether small locally-owned or chains. Not every business is going to survive this crisis and every order helps. Whether you pick it up yourself or utilize one of the delivery services, they really do appreciate your patronage. read more

My parents were visiting from out of town and we wanted to go out to eat and get a quick meal so they could head back home. We were immediately greeted at the door with very friendly hosts. Our server, Andrew, was very polite and patient as my dad asked about various dishes and how they were prepared. My dad's taste buds have changed as he's aged and can be fussy. He ordered the broiled steak tips, medium. My mother and I ordered the broiled seafood combo. All three of us enjoyed our meals and service very much. The manager was at the host stand as we departed. She was very cordial and expressed appreciation for our visit. In today's day of most restaurants experiencing staffing shortages, needing to charge higher prices and provide less, this place did not reflect that. They did not skimp on quantity or quality. The food was fresh, the staff were friendly, knowledgable and efficient. read more

Let me start out by saying my waiter John is not only a well dressed man, he is also very polite and quite funny. He sat me at my table ran me through the specials and his personal favorites on the menu which is always a big help when going to a restaurant for the first time. If this review was only based off the food I ordered it would probably be 4 stars, but johns positive attitude and impeccable service is what makes this a 5 star review! read more

The bbq chicken wrap was delicious. Fries were crispy. Lobster roll was neither colossal or good. Lobster salad was so old all the Mayo had pooled at the bottom into a pink puddle. You could fold the celery chunks. I am guessing this was made a few days ago. My loss. Mashed potato was clumped up next to the roll making the roll soggy. Unfortunately I like the place and I will go back but not for the lobster read more

Not alot to say about this place. It is a chain restaurant similar to Chilis so dont expect anything too exotic. The food though is good. They also feature a sports type bar inside as well. Popcorn is available to help you get in that drinking mood or to snack on as you wait. read more

Love this place. Always great service and good food. Decent size waiting area and average prices. It's a favorite for my family and I.

Grabbed some lunch here today. Nothing impressive about this place. Still feels like this chain is stuck in the 90's when it was cool to stick random yard sale finds on your wall. Instead of fresh bread this chain serves popcorn, an odd selection but actually not a bad idea. For lunch I ordered a Vermont burger, which had onions and a maple mayo. Wasn't a bad combo but was expecting more maple flavor. Overall wasn't totally disappointed with this chain. read more

Okay here is the thing. Chain restaurants all suck right? I'm not inclined to say that. Sometimes you want to go to a place where it's simple straight forward menu and reasonable prices. You're probably going to see someone you know. The always have the game on, etc This is that place. Topsham does not have an Applebees and Ruby Tuesday is the WORST of these style restaurants. 99 has a varied menu and great service. The food is not going to be the best you ever had, but you go home full and it tastes fine. read more
