This place was highly recommended online so we went and tried their appetizers. I really loved their oysters so delicious. It was my husband's favourite oysters. It was so fresh so big so chewy and at the same time so clean and fresh I cannot even explain how delicious the oysters are I would highly recommend coming by here when they have your oyster seasons we really loved we really loved their duck wings. It was so good like so good it was with maple syrup and it was the best duck ever that I've had. I wish I was close by to come here to try their oysters and their duck wings again and again great customer service everybody was so sweet. I was traveling with friends and we had just watched the Pumpkinfest parade and decided to grab a bite. Timing is everything. We got in before the crowd hit. Katie was our server and she was an absolute gem. She found out we were mini schnauzer folks and she has two of them. She was very attentive and took care of our table perfectly. I hadn't had any lobster yet, so I ordered the lobster roll. It was a little pricey ($37) and was cold tossed in mayo. I prefer warm with butter but lobster is lobster and I demolished it anyway. I had a Grey Goose Cosmo that was also delicious. Everyone in the party was happy with their choices but I'm sorry, I don't remember what they had. I don't remember what I had with my lobster roll... Stopped off on the way back from the Pemaquid lighthouse, in search for some of the Damariscotta Oysters I'd heard about. Our group of 8 had a variety of lunch food including oysters and all was happy with our selections. I started with their "Connor and the Gang which was a pint of Guinness and some oysters. Could have eaten a couple of dozen of those beauties but they were a bit pricy. But I must say, they were the best tasting, freshest oysters I've ever had! I also had their Eider burger and added bacon. Very, very tasty. Several of us shared an Eider's Irish Cupcake for dessert. OMG. That was over the top good. We got a reservation for three for dinner and it was quite busy. Our server was pretty attentive and this was good. The menu is somewhat uninspired and limited-- a pub menu, certainly- but it's diverse enough that there are decent options for various tastes. Nothing mindblowing, though. A respectable drink and beer list. I had the fabled crab cakes. The crab meat itself was actually really good, but the crab cakes themselves seem to have been pan fried far too long in a liberal amount of oil-- resulting in a product that was *too* toasty on the bottom. Burned? No, not quite-- but close enough that a fork was insufficient to cut through the whole thing. Broccoli and snow peas as a side, a bit overcooked, and mashed potatoes that were acceptable but nothing to write home about. A burger that was both huge and 100% generic. The sauteed green bean appetizer (with bang bang sauce and some sort of togarashi-type seasoning) was fantastic, though, which is redeeming us a bit, along with an overall pleasant evening and good service, but I would really not recommend the food. read more

Came here in a Wednesday afternoon. We sat outside on a warm day. It is a very old building on a busy street. It needs a facelift inside. Someone appeared quickly to take our drink order I got the blue beer mojito. A friend the strawberry spring and another had a margarita. The drinks were OK. They weren't bad but they weren't great. Then we ordered fish and chips, a Caesar salad with haddock, the tomato and Barata salad, the crabcakes and a burger. The fish and chips were excellent. The french fries were outstanding. I don't know if they were double fried or how they were prepared but they were great. The Caesar salad was excellent and the haddock, although very simply cooked was excellent. my friend who ordered the burger said it was good, but not outstanding. The tomato Barada salad was amazing. There were some sort of tomato basil pesto, and it came with this mountain of fried bread that was just outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

This was a fantastic spot to have a bite to eat for lunch. Traveling down route 1 and making a slight detour for swinging in the downtown area. Lucky enough to snag a spot in the free public parking lot nearby but can imagine that's a rare occurrence. Located in an old brick building with some outside seating available. This building nails the vibe/aesthetic of an old school pub perfectly! There were a handful of menu options that sounded appetizing and made it difficult to make a selection. My wife got the Eider Dip Sandwich and wow that duck was so tender and the side of fries were salted perfectly! I went with their Bangers & Mash and no complaints from me either! I stopped in King Eider's for lunch after a morning of touring the Pemaquid area; it has a nice patio out front with a view of the street so perfect for a nice day (and it's dog-friendly). I did see the inside and it has a great cozy pub vibe if the weather outside isn't great. Service was good as we were waited on quickly and the server was very friendly and helpful. For a starter we had the preztel (which was really fresh) with accompanying brie & bleu cheese dip and it was so good. For the main course I tried the steak pie and it and it was quite good with generous amounts of steak; the pastry was only on top so a bit less than a traditional pot pie. As a proper pub they have a nice selection of beers; I opted for a Smithwick's but they do have local beers on offer. I definitely recommend King Eider's if you're looking for a drink or pub fare in the area. read more

Another day another lunch and search for all the seafood.... Well it's just before "in season" and finding Damariscotta oysters pre in season has been brutal! We finally found this pub that has them, so off we went. Admittedly this review is based on oysters and 1 app only. Based off of that the rating is a 4 because the oysters on the half shell were to die for. This area has the best oysters I've ever had. EVER. our server was nice and the atmosphere was very close knit pub for sure. The app we got was the baked Brie plate - it came with focaccia bread, sliced fruit and a generous bowl of melted Brie. The fruit was fresh and the bread was yummy. The Brie was "meh" it tasted more of a type of sliced Brie as opposed to one you melt. And it was a bowl of all melt, not a slice heated - it was Brie fondue. It was fine. Did I hate it? No! Would I ever order it again? No. Would I sit there and eat every oyster they had? Yes. The only amazing thing tonight was our waitress and the food. I never write bad reviews and mostly all good because nobody always wants to hear the bad. I have to tell you whoever the hostess/manager was tonight June 20 could not have been more rude and obnoxious. Over a month ago I made a reservation for 10. This morning I got a call to reconfirm and asked if we could sit outside. She said should work but not together which we were fine with. I get to restaurant and met with the most horrible human. She was dismissive. Nasty. And her I don't give a shit attitude made for a not so great start. She said no the outside is booked. We had to keep the 10 pound dog in the car. She said the tables are reserved. Which in hindsight was for us because during the course of dinner NO one and I mean no one sat at the two tables. Then my son got stuck behind accident and I am told - by her - When are they coming we have a party. 15 minutes mind you!! We had already ordered food and drinks and just waiting. Again so so rude. The best part of the event was our waitress, five stars, who could not have been kinder. She was fabulous. The food was amazing five stars. I just wish whoever she was (I guess came over from old owners) was a little nicer because we were in no way rude to her. Maybe she should be in the back and not front facing customers. read more

Disgusting Food & Terrible service. If you can't be kind to customers then don't work in hospitality. This establishment is not at all handicap accessible in any way shape or form. We drove an hour from Belfast to join our friends for dinner and were told that we couldn't sit next to them because it would confuse the wait staff. They couldn't handle separate bills or some nonsense. From the moment our server came to the table she had a bad attitude. The food was gross, halfway through our car ride home my daughter had to get out and throw up. The pot pie was a watery mess. Their versions of Brie was absolute garbage. The only redeeming factor was the gentleman who welcomed us with rubber ducky's for the kids and then he even turned sour once our server went crying to him after she couldn't handle her life when I asked if she was ok after dealing with her snark face all night. Overall a place you can certainly do without wasting your time or money on. Note to staff: leave your personal issues at home. Take some acting classes if need be. read more

It was a cold and rainy winter day. Luckily we were able to find a parking spot close to the door. We did not expect to be charmed from the second we walked into the small bar. It was like going back in time. We were warmly greeted and treated like friends. The staff was amazing and so was the food. This is obviously a favorite with locals, as evidenced by the multitude of mugs hanging from the ceiling-just point to your mug and a server will get it down. We would have stayed longer if we could. Great restaurant. Second time there and wonderful food. The fried green beans were awesome. Lightly fried and no breading with excellent seasoning , kinda like Indian spice. The caprese sandwich was awesome, 2 or 3 full thick slices of tomatoes, tons of mozzarella cheese that was fresh, a few pieces of lettuce and light balsamic on a fresh soft ciabatta roll. The French fries were the best I have ever had, kinda like wedges that are hand cut and lightly fried and lightly seasoned with sea salt. King Eiders is a must visit if you're in the Newcastle/Damariscotta area. Famous for their oysters farmed from the nearby river, everything is always fresh, flavorful, and generous. I eat here a lot and have never had a bad meal. I love lobster and their shore dinner is over the top. Local Maine lobster, mussels, cole slaw and fries. Can't go wrong. They are well known for their crab cakes and seafood pot pie. The menu is classic pub grub with an upgrade. Bangers and mash, steak, salmon all menu staples, or just chill out at the cozy oyster bar upstairs with a Guinness and couple oysters. They have a full bar, signature cocktails and there is a nice selection of locally brewed beer and wine. You will always find a specials menu and a dessert menu. King Eider's has a pretty active social media presence you can find them on Facebook and follow for the pubs hours and specials. The building itself is historic and oozes that classic pub vibe. The challenge with the building is that there are a lot of stairs - which some people may have a hard time navigating. The setting is cozy, it can get loud because the space is smallish. The outside dining area is neat and is a good spot to people watch. Summertime this area is very touristy. There is a parking lot nearby that the local business share, parking on the street if you're lucky to get a spot, and the waterfront/boat launch across the street also offers free parking. The pub is a Damariscotta go-to, always busy, service is friendly, and if there is a wait - it's worth it. I promise. read more

We were here 6 years ago and had the best mussels ever and couldn't wait to return. Unfortunately, this visit was not as great. We were seated, ordered a beer and looked at the menu. Laura, our waitress came back to our table, without our beers and asked if we were ready to order. We were not. Beers delivered again asked if we were ready to order, again we were not. We ordered the mussels to share and I got the untraditional fish and chips and my husband the pub steak. The mussels were not a great as we remembered but still good. My husband ordered another beer before dinner came and it was never delivered until after we finished our dinners. Laura blamed it on the bar. She seemed busy talking to a table of guests she knew, while leaning on the bookcase, all settled in.The fish and chips were ok, the coleslaw was great. I've been to King Eider's a few times over the years and have always enjoyed my experience. Step inside to this small pub, which totally gives me all the UK pub meets New England seaside town (not that I've made it across the pond) King Eider's pub is certainly cozy ! There is seating upstairs, but I'm honestly not sure if I've sat up there. There are a couple of tables outside, but there isn't much of a view, besides people watching on Main Street. I started with the King's Margarita Perfecto, but the real standout cocktail of this meal was the Maine Blueberry Martini. I wish I had started with that martini, because by the time I was finished another sounded perfect. I'd have to agree with other Yelpers, the bartender had a strong pour! I wasn't super hungry, so I went with the Signature Salad. Delicious, but again probably should've just ordered something a little more substantial and for the sake of trying the oysters again. My fiancé went with the Buffalo chicken wrap, he seemed to enjoy it - he asked for it to be prepared with less Buffalo sauce than usual, and King Eider's obliged. Entering is a bit tight and confusing as to where to wait for a table, but what can you do in old buildings :) It's worth the confusion ... We sat in the lower bar at a booth and the bartender who took care of us was excellent. I ordered a burger and it was good; my family ordered crab cakes and salmon and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The atmosphere was quiet for lunch, but the place had some cool decor. There were some flies that were annoying (most likely because we were close to the door) and under our table, my foot kept hitting a piece of paneling that was coming off of the wall so it may need a bit of TLC.
