Dropped into the Sterlingtown Public House on a Tuesday night for some cocktails. It was $10 Margarita Night, and luckily for us, that's the only night of the week that Jody works the bar (she makes a Killer Margarita). We also ordered two appetizers -- BBQ wings and the Pub Poutine. The margaritas were so awesome, we both had a 2nd one. Wings were excellent -- meaty, with a crispy outer coating. But I wasn't crazy about the poutine though. The gravy used was very light in color and it didn't have white cheddar cheese curds on top. It wasn't "authentic Canadian poutine". We sat down for what we hoped would be a peaceful meal. Our sons were antsy and I think just over the day of travel. As a stressed mom who had just spent hours driving in the car with them, i was tapped out and overstimulated. We ended up having to take our tacos to go (they held up so well on our drive back to our air bnb & tasted delicious), but really the reason for 5 stars was because of the kindness and thoughtfulness of the bartender. I don't know her name, but she packed up our food while I took my screaming toddler to the car, and sent me home with a brownie dessert. She saw me as a human and tapped out mother, and her kind gesture made me cry. We need more people like her. I hope she sees this and remembers us and knows just how much I appreciate her. read more

We made the trip Sterlingtown Public House to catch one of the shows in the Sunset Series. The venue and the show were a solid five stars. They have a really wonderful outdoor stage, patio lights strung over the casual seating, and there is a beautiful view just beyond it. The performance was excellent and some pretty fantastic local performers are booked for future shows. The service was also excellent. We arrived a little before five and were seated right away, our server was prompt and polite and made suggestions about the menu. The dining area itself is somewhat inviting--it's in the bar area of a historic building. The problem was with the food. We both ordered the Thai Noodle Bowl (one with the added tofu and one without). We were happy to hear our server say she had ordered it for dinner herself--however, we were disappointed. While fresh, we agreed it lacked flavor and ingredients. It was mostly a bowl of jasmine rice and green leaf lettuce. There were some very thinly sliced carrots and cucumbers throughout, a layer of bean sprouts on the top but it just wasn't enough. The peanut sauce was more like a salad dressing than a true peanut sauce and lacked texture, spices, and flavor. I ordered the blueberry pie bar for dessert and it was also disappointing--kind of mushy and lacked flavor. I rarely comment on price, or even consider it as part of the experience but this dinner for two was $100 and really wasn't worth it. It's a cute place and I loved the show, but if I go back I think I'll opt out of having dinner and just go with the snacks and drinks they offer at the outside bar during the show. read more

Camping nearby, and decided to go out for a meal. We decided to sit outside, and the view into the back was wonderful. You can see pretty far, and it made me feel very free. I had the coconut head mocktail and it was very good. If you want people to order another, less sweet and more acidity ( even a lime slice would have helped) I had the meatballs and ziti with marinara and sourdough toast. I think we could have fed four people with that meal! Toast could have used some butter or garlic seasoning. I took a piece of the chocolate peanut butter pie home and oh my word. Overall 3.5 stars for the meal and experience! Ate dinner here on Friday July 1st on a local's recommendation. The food was good and so was the service. They were low on staff so the wait times were very long, about 1.15hr to get seated and another 30 to 45 mins to get the food. But we understand the restaurant industry is having lot of staffing issues, so we waited patiently and thankfully the food was good! Although we would have appreciated if the manager would have come out and told everyone there was a bar inside and that we could have ordered drinks or gotten some water while we waited. Had no idea we could do this until another diner who was friends with the staff went inside and grabbed some drinks. For appetizer we had their very popular BANG BANG MUSHROOM. Now I am not the biggest mushroom fan, but the server promised me that I will not even realize I am eating mushroom and she was so right! The flavor was amazing, it was sweet, spicy, tangy with a perfect crunch. Loved that all the mushrooms were single bite size..MMM salivating just thinking about them! POLENTA FRIES were pretty good, the sauce they came with was delicious! For main, we shared the CHICKEN BURRITO BOWL. The smoky chicken was dynamite and the entire meal was jam packed with flavors. Highly recommend this dish. We also had a side of FRIES. They were soggy and unseasoned. The dessert unfortunately was not good at all. One of the appetizers was a crock of "shareable clam chowder" for $16. Well it certainly wasn't shareable. As soon as it came out in a tiny bowl I asked if this was the shareable one off the appetizer menu. He said yes, want me to bring extra spoons? I said yes and extra bowls because there is no way I wanted to share soup out of the same bowl with my family. The chowder itself was mostly potato's and corn maybe 2 clams. The other appetizers we had were buffalo chicken tenders and pulled pork fries. These both came out cold and nothing great. The pricing here has gotten seriously out of control. Our first time eating here was 2 years ago when the pricing was reasonable and the quality was better than it is today. We ate here the other day and a chicken tender dinner was $25... it came with 3 tenders. A side of fries for an appetizer was $15. The charge of a couple of dollars for a single dipping sauce is absolutely absurd considering it's a tiny little cup with the dressing. We left spending over $100 for lunch and we both felt sick after eating the food. I have no problem spending this kind of money for a meal if the quality matches the price! If you would have asked me 2 years ago if I would recommend this place I would have said absolutely. But today, I wouldn't recommend. Pleasant surprise in rural Union. I drive 17 all the time, right by Union, but the Sterlingtown Public House is a mile or so off 17 so I never came across it before. A Yelp search for a place to stop and get a beer lead me here, glad it did! Great little spot. We were just stopping for a drink and an app, but we're very happy so will be back for dinner! Nice Maine beer selection, can never go wrong with Bissell Brothers IPA. Service was super friendly and engaged. Sterlingtown is the best addition we have had to our little town of Union in decades! We are so happy to see what Brian and Jillian have done with this location, and are excited to see how they succeed in the future! The food is delicious, every single time. The staff is friendly and provide great service. And the ambiance is just so cozy, inside or outside! The patio is the perfect socially distant place to be during COVID. They have a take out menu and one for dining in. Food recommendations wise, I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Always ask for the specials, they are always delicious. In the pictures below, three specials are pictures: Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Cheeseburger Soup and a Crab Roll. For their appetizers (all are amazing) but the bang bang mushrooms are a MUST, seriously do not skip them! Other appetizers pictured below: Zucchini sticks and fried mozzarella. For larger dishes, they have handhelds/salads/large plates. Pictured below: fish tacos, crab roll (summer special) and the beef bulgogi bowl. The space is nice. Friendly staff. We ordered a special and a regular menu item. The thai rice bowl with chicken was disappointing. The dish was sans sesame and cilantro as described on the menu- which made the bowl tasteless. The carrots were clearly old, which was obvious because the bowl had 25 gigantic slices. The chicken reminded me of what you'd pick off a turkey for thanksgiving leftovers. But if you're looking for a trough of food this one's for you. read more

It was out first time to the restaurant and all was going well until I asked why there was so much discrepancy in the wine pours. The server looked at two glasses and agreed, offered to top off and all seemed to be well. When it was time to check out though, a different person came to the table and her attitude was extremely rude. Her comments were both directly aggressive and sarcasm laced, conveying hostility and condescension. All at the table agreed that they had never been treated thus in a restaurant and were appalled at her response to my inquiry, which had been made without any negative overtones. I've been here 5 or 6 times, because I want SO much to love it. Unfortunately I always leave disappointed. The food on the menu sounds like it's going to be amazingly tasty. Some of it comes out tasteless. If you order poutine for an appetizer, be aware you'll likely get a boat-load more fries on your main meal's plate. Great fries, but we weren't wanting MORE after poutine. And our waitress never bothered to tell us we would get more in our plates for dinner and/or offer something different instead. We had a parallel experience with their new cafe/bakery, unfortunately. Absolutely tasteless scones & blah espresso drinks at primo price points. When you drive 2 hours round trip, with toddlers in tow, to celebrate 2 birthdays, it would be nice to leave happily fulfilled. Needs some fine tuning. Sad to say we can't recommend. read more

We were traveling through Maine on our "roadtrip honeymoon" with our dog, and I had emailed the restaurant a week earlier to confirm that we could sit outside with our pup too. They confirmed. We arrived to be told we could NOT sit outside with him, so we opted for take-out instead. We ordered the poutine, Sterlingtown burger, bulgogi, and fish tacos. Poutine - it's probably hard to mess up fries with cheese & bacon, even when the fries are a big soggy. This was the best of the 4 items we ordered. Burger - cooked to a perfect Medium as requested. Menu says it comes with fire roasted tomatoes, but they are actually sun dried tomatoes? Not a bad burger but nothing special. Beef Bulgogi Bowl - was excited to see this on the menu, but it was disappointing. The bowl was 3/4 rice, 1/8 broccoli, 1/8 beef. Everything lacked seasoning - lacked traditional bulgogi flavors, and lacked and salt! Fish tacos - three large tacos packed with fish, very fresh and clean tasting. But desperately needed salt and a squeeze of lime! Really lacked flavor because of this.  The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the seating area was super busy and bustling. A super cute outdoor area. Just wish the food was tastier - I wouldn't return. read more

I love this place and frequent it often but things seem different lately. Waitstaff were on another plant last time and this visit. It was busy and the waitress was showing off memorizing our order without writing it down. Which is great when you have time but with how busy it was things weren't correct when it came out and it wasn't worth trying to get her to fix it. This restaurant took me by surprise. Many times you eat at a small restaurant in a small town and it can be disappointing. The atmosphere is quaint and friendly with modern touches. I was here on a Sunday and there was one server. She did very well and was very friendly but the restaurant was a tad busy. I think one more server would improve the service. The food was delicious. I had the grilled lemon and garlic chicken with carrots and zucchini. It is served with mashed potato but I opted for the jasmine rice instead. The food tasted very fresh. The chicken was juicy with beautiful grill marks and perfectly seasoned. The vegetables tasted fresh. The veggies had a good balance between being tender and a good crunch. We are so very happy to again have the Public House open. Following their winter hiatus they came back with new menu items plus all of the old favorites. The menu offers one food across the spectrum from seafood to chicken to steak to vegetarian at reasonable prices. The owners and staff are very customer-oriented and work hard to make one's culinary experience very positive. Will definitely be back for many more visits in the future. Quality food... My siblings and I stumbled into Sterlingtown Public House by accident while driving thru Union. We are Foodies who love good beer and wine. We loved this place! The owners are welcoming, the beer choices were amazing and the food divine. We ordered chicken wings and they were the best we ever tasted. The beer selection was interesting and all 4 of us tried a different beer and were happy with our choices. The remainder of our road Foodie tour thru Maine was spent comparing any pub we visited to the Public House. No other place won over Sterlingtown Public House.
