Wow! What a pleasant surprise! My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this roadside treasure and will be back! Our meal began with a superb cocktail and appetizer of savory Pork Rillettes served with perfect grilled bread and house-pickled vegetables. Moving on, we shared two entrees, both delicious and substantial! Classic Choucroute was served in a beautiful copper pot and was enough for at least two persons but priced for one! Available with all sausage or mixed traditional meats, the chef-made boudin blanc was a standout among the three sausages and potatoes and savory cabbage that make up this classic comfort food feast. We also chose a glorious Jägerschnitzel with thin breaded pork cutlet served with red cabbage and a luxurious potato gratin. Perfect on a chilly fall night. A fine selection of wine and sommelier choice yielded a great match of Dr.Konstantin Franck dry Reisling. Hardly hungry but keen to try the entire menu, we shared a delicious and traditional Apple Strudel for dessert. Great experience, fine chef, pleasant room, good service. What could be better! Great meal, great service and careful hands-on quality was evident throughout! We'll be back for the fine selection of traditional Alsatian tarts and more sausage!

What a great spot in the middle of nowhere! Kudos for the authentic food, warm service, and nicely curated beverage list. I had pork loin schnitzel, a financier, and a glass of Trimbach Riesling. A delightful evening!

Our second visit was as great as the first! Fine service, great food! I highly recommend the Crispy Duck Confit.

We also ordered two appetizers -- BBQ wings and the Pub Poutine. The margaritas were so awesome, we both had a 2nd one. Wings were excellent -- meaty, with a crispy outer coating. But I wasn't crazy about the poutine though. The gravy used was very light in color and it didn't have white cheddar cheese curds on top. It wasn't "authentic Canadian poutine". Poutine aside, the Sterlingtown Public House is a great place to kick back for a few hours at the bar. Even on a Tuesday night.

As a stressed mom who had just spent hours driving in the car with them, i was tapped out and overstimulated. We ended up having to take our tacos to go (they held up so well on our drive back to our air bnb & tasted delicious), but really the reason for 5 stars was because of the kindness and thoughtfulness of the bartender. I don't know her name, but she packed up our food while I took my screaming toddler to the car, and sent me home with a brownie dessert. She saw me as a human and tapped out mother, and her kind gesture made me cry. We need more people like her. I hope she sees this and remembers us and knows just how much I appreciate her.

I had a Black Manhattan cocktail, supposedly differing from an ordinary Manhattan by use of a different kind of bitters (Amaro) and "filthy cherries." These seemed like basic good quality maraschinos to me (3); nothing "filthy" about them. Nevertheless it was good, fruity, and ample strength. The appetizer selection was small and heavy on bread-based items. (No free table bread was available - grrrr.) Most didn't appeal but the Roasted Garlic did, served with bread (2 kinds: a toasted crostini and a fresh crusty sourdough). The garlic was a whole head, sliced open for easy access and presented on a very hot plate, sweet and mellow from long slow roasting, and served with a choice of cheeses (molten blue, brie, whipped feta, or chèvre) - I chose chèvre and it was very good and a generous portion. A very simple dish not often encountered in restaurants. In retrospect this was the best part of the meal. I felt a little rushed at times and impatient at other times. It took a very long time to get the appetizer so I had nothing to dilute the effects of the strong cocktail. But then more than once I was asked about my entree before I was ready; once when ordering the appetizer and another time soon after I received it and hadn't made up my mind yet. I held my ground and told them I wasn't quite ready, and they accepted that and I took my time eating. There was an eclectic selection of wines by the glass. I had an interesting rosé from Slovenia. My entree was a roasted fish filet (halibut I think? It's no longer listed on the menu) served over a tomato-based sauce. This sauce was richly scented and complex and the plate was attractively garnished with micro greens. But the fish was on the small side and the flavor was monotonous - no discernible browning on the top. The other component, probably an herby cucumber-yogurt sauce resembling raita, which should have been a cool complement to the hot tomato broth, instead was melting unattractively and dispersing into it. Perhaps most disappointing, there was nothing else to this dish. It needed a starch or something (rice, boiled potatoes, or even more of those very good breads from the appetizer - wish I had saved some.) So it's good I got the appetizer first, or I would have left rather hungry. Desserts were also very limited and most didn't appeal. I decided on the Clafouti, which is a baked tart, thicker and heavier than flan, with fruit (black cherries) It was way too hot, didn't have enough fruit, and ice cream would be a far better choice than the amorphous blob of whipped cream it was served with. I should have skipped dessert. It was so boring. As for ambience: it's a crowded, noisy place but in a pleasing way. Very small, and I had reserved one of the 6 seats at the bar (I was dining solo). It's whimsically decorated, like with the grape-covered nude statue holding a candle. There was attractive artwork on the walls, some of which I believe was for sale. I did detect smoky odors coming from the kitchen that other reviewers have noted but I consider that a positive thing, not a negative. So come here if you wish. Check it out and form your own opinion. As for me, I wasn't sufficiently impressed and wouldn't return.

Sat at the bar since they were quite busy and haven't had a chance to clear a few tables. Restaurant reminds you of grandma's house, rustic, chic tables and chairs, mismatched dinnerwares and the whole ambiance playing "killin jive" from the 1940's. I wasn't born then but the whole vibe reminds you of that era that I only get a pleasure to watch on TV. Now for the food... Jonah's crab as you can expect was sweet and delicious but a pain to eat using your fighting tools however, the dip was heavenly. BF had the burger, he was surprised that you can't modify it, but thoroughly enjoyed how unique it was, I told him, the chef takes pride how he prepares his food, so you either take it as it is or get something else. Keep an open mind. And I had the overnight beef shank, wow, simple yet delicious, fork tender and luscious marrow. The celery and fennel salad added brightness to the dish and the blue cheese wasn't overwhelming. And I don't like blue cheese and this creativity made me wanting it more. The dish isn't a huge portion, but surprisingly it got me full that I left a few bites of the beef and the salad. For drinks, I had the Rosé and he had the New England India pale ale, light and bubbly. Service was okay, a little slow in the beginning and as the night went on, our server became friendlier.

And though it is…read morethe only restaurant for miles, I expect that many tourists would pass on it based on the appearance, that of the clichéd "dive bar." But those in the know - tourists and locals alike - ensure that it is always busy, and it seems especially popular with bikers. Most of the rowdiest patrons choose the outdoor pavilion out back. I believe it serves the same menu but it's much louder, especially when there's live music or karaoke. Not my thing so I sit inside. The food is a peculiar mix of typical bar food, New England seafood, and German. Yes, German. Schnitzel, Rinder Rolladen, Goulash, Spaetzle, you'll find all of these. I've tried the Schnitzel, which I got with red cabbage and spaetzle. It was a generous portion and pretty decent. Authentic? Perhaps not. The "German Potato Salad" was regular mayonnaise-based with chopped pickles and bacon. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's not German Potato Salad. On another occasion I tried the lobster reuben which has lobster instead of corned beef. Good but rather messy to eat from the melted cheese and Thousand Island dressing along with the plentiful lobster. Fries were ok, not outstanding. On a third occasion I tried the crab cakes which was a mistake and I should have known better. Salty, too much Old Bay, lots of filler. Gourmet or "fine dining" this is not. But definitely worth a visit or two or three. But be aware: the "dive bar" atmosphere also extends to the ambience and cleanliness - or lack thereof. The men's room smelled exactly as you might imagine, and the soap and paper towels had both run out. The ice bucket, curiously, was on the customer side of the bar, 6 inches from where I was sitting, separated by a flimsy plexiglass shield. So I advise you to stick to beer or wine - avoid the cocktails. Other than that, it has a fun kitchy feel to it, 70s TV posters, photos of sports celebreties and the like, and too much patriotic decor for my liking. But my waitress was friendly, I've enjoyed my visits, didn't get sick, and would probably go back.
