Unassuming building, very nice interior- dark and moody. Duck confit starter was amazing, tender duck, fresh salad greens. Yum. I had the schnitzel with red cabbage. My husband had the duck and really enjoyed it, good duck, well prepared. Good sized portions all around. Bread service was an extra cost and was worth it. Everything is house made and it shows. We discovered Alsace last year and made sure we went back this year. Absolutely amazing! Everything we had was so good from the appetizers to entrees. Husband had the escargot and lobster franchisee and I had the lobster bisque and the duck. The best meal we've had this trip and we have had some fine meals. See you next year! read more

Went with fiends on a Wednesday night for dinner. The pretzel was really good, and was the best thing I had during my visit. Escargot was virtually flavorless. Schnitzel was greasy and not very flavorful (I'm Austrian, so maybe I'm spoiled when it comes to schnitzel). Wine was too expensive. Choucroute Garnie was ok, but nothing special (we had both the meat and the sausage versions). I would have ordered some dessert, but the waitress seemed to be in a rush to get us out at 8PM, didn't really ask if I wanted any, and just handed me the bill, so I didn't bother with dessert. Wow! What a pleasant surprise! My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this roadside treasure and will be back! Our meal began with a superb cocktail and appetizer of savory Pork Rillettes served with perfect grilled bread and house-pickled vegetables. Moving on, we shared two entrees, both delicious and substantial! Classic Choucroute was served in a beautiful copper pot and was enough for at least two persons but priced for one! Available with all sausage or mixed traditional meats, the chef-made boudin blanc was a standout among the three sausages and potatoes and savory cabbage that make up this classic comfort food feast. We also chose a glorious Jägerschnitzel with thin breaded pork cutlet served with red cabbage and a luxurious potato gratin. Perfect on a chilly fall night. A fine selection of wine and sommelier choice yielded a great match of Dr.Konstantin Franck dry Reisling. Hardly hungry but keen to try the entire menu, we shared a delicious and traditional Apple Strudel for dessert. Great experience, fine chef, pleasant room, good service. What could be better! The food was absolutely outstanding and we enjoyed every bite . However the level of noise is unacceptable. We could barely talk. It was chaotic. There were two tables of women laughing and squealing hysterically, being very loud and over exuberant., obviously enjoying themselves but we did not enjoy being sandwiched between them. Perhaps the waitress, who was lovely, might have foreseen the scenario and placed us a few tables away. Something might be fixed with noise absorbing tiles. It is not a relaxing environment and ruined the totally exquisite food and good wine. We will not go back. read more

It's marvelous. It's divine. Well, for this part of the world anyway. Smallish restaurant, much waiting and anticipation for them to open. Haven't been for dinner but the brunch was very good. The "French style" scrambled eggs mean some cream and herbs (my husband kept saying he likes mine better, they are plain). The ham in my eggs benedict was the best ham I've had in ages, thick cut and juicy as can be. The potatoes are amazing, I'm going to copy them at home. Huge toasty wedges, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The onion soup was delicious with a great broth although there could've been more of it, it's almost really a panade. The service is super sweet. The only negative is the prices. $20 is a lot for eggs benedict, it just really is. A $60 brunch for two is not something we can afford often. We got there at 4:30 PM opening time and so glad we did! Alsace quickly became almost filled to capacity. We shared the goat cheese with cranberry-pistachio dip with crispy potato dippers. My husband and I are on vacation in Maine and we had a wonderful dinner tonight at Alsace. We love French food and finding a French restaurant nearby was an unexpected surprise. I had the Jaeger pork schnitzel, my husband had the cassoulet and we have leftovers to enjoy another meal. Very friendly service. Interior is inviting with attractive tables and art on the walls. Exterior could use a sprucing up. Some window boxes with impatiens or geraniums could elevate the curb appeal. We started with really excellent onion soup. Wonderfully seasoned, piping hot, with yummy cheese and toast. Outstanding. It was difficult to choose from the large, interesting menu. Decided to stick with what should have been their show pieces: famous food from Alsace. My Choucroute Garnie with sausages came to the table barely warm - I sent it back. It was adequately warm when it was returned potato and sauerkraut were good sausages were mostly good and interesting with different seasonings. We both did not find the boudin Blanc very appealing: it was oozing out of the casing; a loose texture, pasty and bland. Companion's Jäger schnitzel was a huge serving with uniformly very dark breading - rather dry, unfortunately. The spätzle was ok red cabbage was bland. Our deconstructed Black Forest had a delicious brownie component but the cherry ice cream, despite its vivid color, lacked fruity flavor - under sweetened, perhaps? Bitter cocoa nibs sprinkled on top as garnish did not work for me. Prices are right up there. I really wanted to love this place but too many misses - might try again. read more

Unassuming outside, but comfortable and lovely inside - beautiful glassware, lighting, paintings, ....food was amazing and service was great. For appetizers we had a special gazpacho (fantastic - smooth and creamy and delicous); foie gras on toasted kuglehopf which is like German pannetone; followed by Jager Schnitzel (pork loin cutlets with mushrooms, onions, cabbage, spatzel) and lobster with spatzel and corn and mushrooms, and IT ALL WAS FABULOUS! About $100/pp for three courses without alcohol and worth it. Interesting cocktail and beer list, and a serious wine list, with a wide range of prices for a glass or a bottle; lovely desserts (homeade strawberry icecream parfait and a chocolate espresso mousse, with coffee or espresso.) Stop in for an early dinner. Love the look of the interior. The low ceiling makes it feel cozy. We sat in the bar and had great service start to finish. We each ordered a glass of great Alsatian wine and most of the appetizers. I'd highly recommend the pork rillettes, the foie gras mousse with the blueberry gelee and the duck confit. The mustard aioli with the frites was very tasty. The staff was very accommodating and approachable. We ordered the apple strudel to take home for breakfast. Fine dining where you can dress comfortably! We've been twice, and had the duck, sausage entree, short ribs, and jager pork. I had a kale salad with one appetizer, and it was unbelievably delicious. Totally unexpected! The desserts are so good. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. They have a great selection of wines and cocktails. The chef is French, and prepared French-German appetizers and entrees which were fantastic! I had the onion soup, which was maybe, the best, and I order onion soup whenever offered. Don't be deterred by the outside, as Alsace took over an old diner, they have done an amazing transformation on the inside, worthy of any special anniversaries or celebrations, yet comfortable enough to sit at the bar and enjoy one of their specialty drinks. My husband had an old fashion, he was very impressed. Our server was delightful, very professional and engaging, we parted with the feel of visiting friends that put on a wonderful spread. I've been to Alsace four times. It is as good, if not better, than the best Camden and Rockport restaurants. It's a great dining experience without the pretentious fussiness of other restaurants in its class. The food is consistently phenomenal. Service is personal, friendly and warm. And, once you get past the shabby exterior, the ambiance inside is cozy, romantic and well-appointed. The bar area, with hi-tops, has a very cool and cozy vibe.
