Wonderful food, service and overall dining experience! Waitress and chef were both excellent. Loved the cozy and quaint setting. Food was delicious and served with style.

I recently ate at Bistro Milliard and couldn't be more impressed. The waitress was super sweet and food came out relatively quickly. It's a small restaurant, so make sure you book a reservation in advance. Food was delicious!

Charming and intimate experience with this chef owned unique bistro. Highly recommend the Tuna and Muscles. Wine was delightful and the waitress had a great attentive but not overbearing approach. Hidden in bustling Hallowell! Special occasion kind of experience.

10/10 best gnocchi I've ever had. Focaccia to start was a nice touch, and the apps were fantastic as well. Tim changed the recipe to the white beans and sausage to meet my vegan dietary preference and absolutely nailed it. Excellent service as well, couldn't recommend this restaurant enough.

I had the mussels, the dates, and tuna as the appetizer all was very delicious! I ordered two entrees the filet and ravioli both was the best I have ever eaten! The desserts are tremendous the pan cotta is incredible. It was so good I almost cried eating it. Highly recommend everyone try this restaurant I will be coming back a lot

    Agnolotti al sugo di funghi

Exactly what Hallowell needs! While other surrounding towns are getting fabulous chef-owner restaurants, this one landed with aplomb. The chef, experience from Italy to Portland, is very welcoming and delivers every dish with finesse and faster than expected for a one man show and one waitstaff for now. There are limited tables in this cozy romantic space (former Slates building) so reservations are encouraged. Outdoor patio is planned for the future. The calamari was tender and savory, braised with porcini and pecorino. Eggplant was a perfect parmesan app. And the agnolotti di funghi the best pasta (house made) dish I've had in some time. Panna cotta was very traditional. They call the apps "tapas" but really they are a half dozen appetizers of choice, slightly larger than a tapas house would deliver. So in the end the prices are typical for a joint like this (including the wine and good beer offerings). We are returning to try more!

The restaurant is very romantic - dark lighting, chandeliers, ornate china, candles, on a cobblestone street. Our reservation was at their large wrap-around bar in the front. The bar seats weren't the most comfortable - they have no backs and they are drilled in place; if ever returning, I'd book a table. I didn't realize they had a whole back room which has two levels of additional tables and lounge seating as well. Even though the bartenders were very busy preparing intricate cocktails, we still received wonderful service. Our bar seats gave us a view of the kitchen windows, so we were able to see all the dishes coming out which was helpful in informing our decisions. We had the whipped ricotta and arancini to start. The ricotta was a large portion and came with tall breadstick crackers - it was really good, same with the riceballs. For my main, I got the radiatori pasta. I enjoyed it and brought some back as leftovers. Lastly, we shared the blueberry tiramisu for dessert. By the time the meal ended, we were sickly full since everything was so good and we wanted to clear our plates. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night or large groups.

It must be done right in order to do this. We both had the shrimp, which was wonderful! More on that in a moment: I had this massive salad, olive, egg, onions, tuna, others I don't recall, a great sauce, lots of greens. Anyway she had creme Catalon (or close to this) for dessert, and I don't consume desserts. Back to the shrimp. Upon finishing there was much leftover olive-oil based sauce, which was so fab. that I poured it onto my salad, making it one of the best that I've ever had. And it was massive, to boot. The restaurant serves a complimentary glass of gazpacho. Now, I lived in Spain for a long time. This was among the best I've ever had. Slightly zesty, thick, super-blended, high-quality olive oil (I think). We ordered much more of it. In sum, this restaurant is a find. It's quality suggests that it might belong in a fancier restaurant neighborhood, but so what? It's a quality meal. Service was excellent, by the way. We're intent on returning, with more family next time. Oh, the ambience is nice. Well lit, quiet, good size but not overwhelming, roomy.

I stopped by the day in advance to confirm our reservation for the porch and picked up a menu. The big day arrived, we walked in and I explained that we had a reservation for four on the porch to which the rather rude young hostess said no, you are sitting outside. I explained that I didn't want to sit outside at a picnic table I wanted to sit on the porch. She said that wasn't an option even though I could see there were tables available on the porch. Not wishing to make a scene with my family present I agreed and she led us to a picnic table outside. The food selection was limited but well presented and delicious. Unfortunately, the server did not let us know they were out of the sausage plate which is what my husband was hoping to order. The servers were pleasant but inattentive and could benefit from additional training. We had to make a serious effort to get their attention to order more beverages. Because we were outside there were flies and yellow jackets around the table and the food. We are year round residents would like to return if it was guaranteed we could get a table in the place we reserved without a fuss. Good place for families with young children as there were numerous kids running around.

The meal started with spicy cucumbers, fried eggplant, and Korean fried chicken. The cucumbers were refreshing, sweet, spicy, and dangerously addictive. The eggplant was crispy, sticky, and packed with flavor. And the fried chicken? My partner could have just eaten that alone and been happy! The four of us went all in on the largest combo platter. Short rib, ribeye, pork belly, shrimp, chicken, veggies--the grill was working overtime. The short rib ipractically melted, the ribeye was buttery perfection, and the pork belly reminded us why pork belly has such a devoted fan club. There was a brief period where my partner and I had no idea what we were doing at the grill, luckily we were with seasoned veterans of it! By the end of the meal my confidence was soaring that I could do this again! The banchan, which the server hinted at has a few sides that change time to time, kept every bite interesting The service was fantastic and so informative, and the entire experience was far more fun than I expected. I was caught off guard since I've never been to a restaurant that turned people away. I'm assuming kids/babies aren't welcomed here? There were plenty of large tables available in the front where the host stand was. I could count 4 tables on my way in, 1 or 2 of them larger tables. We were open to the grill tops or regular tables but he didn't ask us. I guess if you have kids, save the hassle and dine elsewhere. We ended up at Highrollers for the evening.

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy.
