Wow what an amazing experience! Everything was done so well here I had to give them five stars. The restaurant is super cozy, we sat at the bar where you can view the open kitchen which is super cool. Our bar tender was fantastic, super friendly, on top of it and gave us suggestions on the menu. We split a bottle of wine and both got steak. It was cooked to perfection. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Chocolate profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and all the trimmings. Delish!

My last night in Portland, Maine and dinner at the knotted apron was a must. Bintz was absolutely the usual - Fabulous! Great food, amazing vibe, quaint atmosphere! My time in Maine was wonderful. I'm saddened to leave but I will certainly be back to visit. Great job to everyone on this team!

Amazing food, perfect timing for each course. Each dish was made with care and the staff was kind, courteous, and swift. Atmosphere was pleasant and not overcrowded and loud like most other restaurants. Would recommend 10/10 times

Wonderful overall experience with my beautiful wife. My wife had the Crab Dip, French Onion Soup and the Casco Bay Cod and I had the Poutine, Wild Mushroom Salad and the Duck Breast and we shared the Chocolate Tart. All were amazing, but the Poutine, French Onion Soup and Duck Breast would be our recommendation (a lights out, amazing meal.) Every dish was incredibly well balanced, so much so that if you don't include all ingredients in each bit you're definitely missing out! Lastly, the service was just as amazing and the venue is a warm and cozy atmosphere with music at the right level for great private conversation.

5/5 for everything!!! The Knotted Apron is one of the best restaurants I've been to in Portland. I loved everything I ate. And the ambiance and service was excellent. I sat outside with the outdoor lights lit, which gave a perfect calm, fairytale vibe. It was my boyfriend's birthday dinner and we were so happy with how everything turned out. Our waiter was super nice and checked up on us in a timely manner. One of my favorite dishes were the mussels. The sauce was so good that you could slurp it by itself. The bread that came with it was a nice addition to dip in the sauce and add crunch. They do change the menu every now and then so the dishes seen in the pictures may not be there when you go. But that's something I enjoyed because it shows how thoughtful and creative the chefs are when they create a dish. Overall, I will definitely return to The Knotted Apron!

You know when you go to an establishment and before the meal is actually over, you are already planning the next time you go? Knotted Apron was that for my partner and I. Looking for a place to go to for our anniversary, I made reservations for the Knotted Apron based on a recommendation from a friend who had also gone for her anniversary. Looking at the small, but adventurous, menu, I was eager to go. Making a reservation on a Thursday was easy, however, I can imagine that it would get more challenging on the weekend. There is some outdoor seating, about 6 seats at the bar with the open kitchen, and a small dining room space. Although small, the establishment creates a comforting and intimate experience, without feeling like you are sitting on top of other people. My partner and I ended up sitting at the bar, which was perfect, as we got to see the chefs cook in the open kitchen. The service here is one of the best. The bartender was incredibly nice and informative. He was the perfect balance of being attentive and giving us some space. The chefs were also awesome and interacted with us as we discussed food and techniques. The menu, again, although small, packs a punch with a variety of flavors and options. It being in the peak of summer, there were a lot of lobster notes, but there were pasta dishes, salads, apps, etc. My partner and I started by sharing the Lobster Toast and the Tagliatelle. The lobster toast with pickled mushrooms and miso was out of this world, and a cool, unique take lobster. The tagliatelle was so, so good with a little chili oil and amazing meatballs. Entrees are on the larger side. My partner and I both opted for the monkfish with lobster risotto. It was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. I can't say enough about this restaurant. We can't wait to go back and try more of the seasonal offerings!

We chose to dine here to ring in 2024 based on the excellent reviews of food, service and ambiance. The New Year's Eve 6 course tasting menu was not available at the time reservations were made (nor anytime before our arrival) and paid in full: $166.00 dollars per person which included a champagne toast, tax and 20 percent gratuity. The dining area is intimate as well as a bit cramped, but the set up is lovely. We were provided champagne upon arrival. The New Year' s eve menu was provided and much to our dismay, there were no choices and there were 2 fish dishes to be served. The cod fritter was the first course. The salty portion was tiny, accompanied only by a lonely spring of arugula. Next came a broccolini with Hollandaise, followed by poached flounder, veal with potatoes, and then a Tiramisu like cake. All portions were small, even for a tasting menu. I am not sure how broccolini counts as a course. The menu and presentation lacked creativity, innovation, flavor and choice. No party favors were provided. Service was o.k. but like the menu, nothing outstanding. Based on this experience, I would give a 3.5 and I would not look to dine here again.

The best Caesar's salad I've ever had in my life! No joke. The dressing was perfect and so fresh. I even asked the server and he was stunned because nobody asks what's in the dressing they change their menus but I hope they keep this one. The beef in the beef ragu was perfectly tender. The pasta was awesome. Overall a wonderful place for a date night. We sat outside since it wasn't too cold yet. It's not a regular fare kind of place (not for me) but definitely a gem in Portland.

Steak tartar as only Chef Ryan can do.

Chef Ryan is seriously talented. His creations are beautiful and scrumptious and never over the top. He mixes, matches and blends without over doing it. His offers a gastronomic treat that keeps bringing us back. The dedicated and loyal Knotted Apron team works like a fine clock. They make us feel at home in their cozy restaurant.

Room for Improvement has been around for quite awhile at this point and I have heard nothing but positive about it. My wife and I finally made the time to come here and glad we did. With it being Halloween they have a special theme this week called Doom for Improvement so we thought it was the perfect time to visit! We showed up at opening for a spot to beat Halloween crowd on wharf street. I was reminded of Jager right away in the sense it felt familiar while also feeling new. They decked it out with Halloween decorations and bartenders were dressed up. We had Bojack Horseman serving us who was a top notch bartender, friendly, answered any questions and had good vibes! My wife tried their Pineapple Daiquiri and their Espresso Martini. I went with the Halloween themed drinks and got the Rest In Peeses that was a peanut butter (Reese's) themed Old Fashioned. Secondly I grabbed their Plenty Evil that was inspired by the Good & Plenty candy Absinthe Frappe. My wife's drinks were phenomenal and would both be go to orders for her and we both found a new favorite Espresso Martini. My first drink nailed the perfect mix of peanut butter flavor with a classic Old Fashioned. Secondly despite not being a huge licorice/good & plenty candy this drink was delicious! I look forward to returning for a non Halloween themed visit but we were both extremely impressed. If you are looking for a bar to grab drinks and want a nice and chill vibe this is your spot. Expect friendly bartenders who make high quality drinks!

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy. However the music, overall restaurant vibe and half the dishes exploding with flavor made my experience pleasant and I will return again knowing a bit more of what to expect and looking at photos of the menu/meal options beforehand.

Via Vecchia was definitely worth the wait, and this was one of the most surprising restaurants during our trip. We ordered the brussel sprouts, grilled octopus, campanelle, and radiatori. The brussel sprouts was the one dish that I was most hesitant about, seeing that it was paired with a blueberry agrodolce. Not a typical combination, but this ended up being a favorite. The sweetness & tartness of the sauce worked SO well with the sprouts - it's an excellent dish. The octopus had the perfect char, and all of the flavor pairings were really cohesive. I had never heard of either of the pastas, but I loved the textures of both. The campanelle with nduja cream was delicious, but did get to be a little heavy about halfway through. Radiatori with bolognese was a classic but well executed dish. Service is attentive without being overbearing. Prices are super reasonable.

I finally had a chance to look at all the decor and details, and my eyes were FEASTING on the colorful touches and funky vibes. Our server was very nice, and even though we only ordered one drink and definitely stayed there for a good amount of time, he wasn't pushy in any way. My cocktail, the Wink n Nod, was soooo good. It had vodka, gin, manzanilla, olives, and pickled Fresno brine. The result was a yummy concoction with a punch, one that I could savor and not slurp in ten seconds. That said, I gotta say I was surprised by how busy the place was given how early we went. It wasn't even 4pm. I don't think I would come back in the summer or during peak hours because I could definitely see them getting busy, just like during their opening weekend, and having an entirely different experience.
